First Impression- my partner took me here as a surprise dinner for my birthday. The restaurant was beautifully lit and tastefully decorated. Spacious and clean. It definitely had wow factor as soon as you walked in. We were escorted to the second floor and seated by the corner window with a nice view of the city. They turned down the lights, it was very romantic. For some reason, the dining room was empty so we got very personalized service. Avery was wonderfully attentive and knowledgeable. The Noms: - Prestige Caviar Tasting: 25g each of Classic Osetra, Gold Osetra, and Platinum Osetra with a selection of accoutrements. My favorite part as everything was so fresh and decadent. My favorite was the Gold with its rich, nutty flavor and the Platinum with buttery finish. - Amuse Bouche, fluke tartare + steak tartare, lobster bisque: a wonderful little bite that made me wish I had more. Fresh and delicate in flavor. The lobster bisque was cozy and comforting. - Prime rib: medium rare, so tender and well seasoned. The perfect main course - Tarte au chocolate: served with a candle, it was so decadent and the perfect ending to dinner. Sugared madeleines were AMAZING... so warm and buttery and soft. The little chocolate truffles were little bites of heaven and the fruit gel (I think passion fruit? Kumquat? I forget) was so refreshing. In Conclusion: I recently tried caviar and have been enjoying my amateur forays... but my thoughtful partner reserved this special treat for my birthday. I admittedly to not knowing much about caviar, and Avery was so patient and wonderful in explaining each quality and characteristic of their different caviars... he directed us in what order we should try each plate so that we could maximize the flavor experience. I've never felt so catered to and had so much attention to detail. I've eaten at several Michelin restaurants and this one is one of my favorites. My 3rd time here and not once did I remember to leave a review but my pictures stayed. This time the dining room above was under construction so we were seated downstairs. Both of our servers made this a memorable experience for both my brother and his wife. It was their first time trying caviar beside the roe at sushi restaurants which is vastly different than sturgeon family. For the quality of food it is worth every penny in my eyes. Everything was prepared to perfection and tasted amazing. The caviar butter with freshly baked rolls don't get any better. Loved the caviar spread with the savory crapes and Yukon gold potatoes. Dude, I'm going to be spending $1000 for two. Is it really necessary to tell me that I need to order better caviar or a more expensive bottle of wine? About the wine list: egregiously overpriced. But you are at Caviar Russe so you know the deal. Skip the tasting menu and get the baked potato (he did us a favor and got it for us?), tuna tartare and scrambled egg. And of course the caviar. Everything was perfect. This may be one of my new favorite places in NYC! We had a reservation for five people on a Sat afternoon. My one gf sat at the plush blue velvet seats at the bar before we arrived. Once we arrived, we were escorted to our beautiful, comfortable table front and center in their downstairs lounge. We started with a bottle of champagne (when in Rome, right?) The GM is a sommelier, so he was happy to walk us through the champagne menu. After that, we ordered some caviar for the table and the crispy rice. The service was impeccable. Friendly, hospitable and on top of their A game! After awhile, we ordered another bottle of champagne and tried some other small apps - the milk bread (amazing), the duck croquettes, caviar baked potatoes and the golden egg (one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten)! For dessert we had some of the Madeleine's along with the tarte au chocolat. Everything was outstanding! We had the chance to see the upstairs dining room too- absolutely stunning! The service was top notch and everyone was very knowledgeable and willing to go out of their way to meet some of our unique requests. Outside of the silly bottle of champagne, we've experienced a lot of caviar in our time, and it just wasn't worth the price. Their serving sizes seemed a bit short of what you'd receive with a typical caviar service. There were some unique accoutrements and additional menu items that were a nice surprise and all well-executed. The service was really excellent - everyone was very attentive and prompt. We got the following dishes: Milk Bread (4/5): Very nice bread that came with caviar butter. Caviar Baked Potatoes (5/5): Really tasty. The potatoes were mini, and filled with a rich mashed potato. Yum. Tasmanian Sea Trout Cornet (3.5/5): This was fine. The trout was good, but otherwise it was pretty standard. Although it was fine.c I probably wouldn't order it again. I came here for lunch and ate in their lounge/bar. I love caviar so I wanted to stop here while in NYC. It was fun to directly compare different types and see which I liked best. We started off with the classic caviar service which included 25g each of classic osetra, siberian sturgeon, and pacific sturgeon. My favorite was the osetra. We also got some other items from the menu such as the rock crab cornets, caviar baked potatoes, bluefin tuna bao buns, and "the golden egg". The caviar baked potatoes were insanely good and I could not get enough of the spicy bluefin tuna bao buns, they were the best bao buns that i've ever had! I really enjoyed each item that I had here, even though we ate in the lounge and didn't get a tasting menu the service was great and the food was all Michelin quality. I really like this place and have experience incredibly warm and hospitable service here. Caveat - I've only sat in the bar lounge but it can be a casual relaxed experience on a Sunday afternoon or it can take on more of a vibe at night complete with DJ. The caviar here is fantastic with all the accoutrements-love the potato slices and the warm blinis. Oysters and sashimi is also on point. The also have incredible pastries too. I had the immense pleasure of attending a decadent work event at Caviar Russe's bar recently. From the moment that I arrived, the staff graciously treated me to a flute of Ruinart Blanc de Blancs, a sparkler usually priced at $50 a glass. Throughout the entire evening, they did not even hesitate to refill my champagne flute, and I surely did not complain. In addition to the fancy bubbly, there was a whole seafood spread to take advance of. I made my own open-faced sandwiches using fluffy blinis, salty caviar, crème fraiche, and diced scallions. I bit into crisp jumbo shrimp cocktail and tender king crab from the raw bar section. There were fresh slices of hamachi, bluefin tuna, and sea trout sashimi with wasabi, ponzu, and soy sauce. Lastly, we were enticed with creative bites like an everything bagel topped with smoked salmon, pickled shallot, and caviar. This was a bit salty for my liking, but had a great amount of flavor. The lobster rolls topped with brown butter and caviar were sinfully delicious. There was also a buckwheat tartlett filled with lamb tartare and caviar in an anchovy vinaigrette, though I was not a fan of this one at all. Seafood was clearly their specialty. The final bite was also my favorite - the crab cake! The king crab and truffle cake was the best rendition I had ever had! The truffle miso aioli dipping sauce made it even better! Wow - quite the memorable Michelin experience! From the moment I stepped into the restaurant, I was gawking at how gorgeous the interior was. Plush sofas, elegant chandeliers, decadent art on the walls - make sure you don't come underdressed. My friend and I did the 3-course tasting menu and we were blown away from the beginning. Even though it's a 3 course deal, they bring out so many complimentary side dishes that you will definitely be full by the end of the meal. The fresh-baked bread and spreads was the perfect way to start the meal. I loved the halibut, but I wish there were more pieces of fish. The scallops I ordered were cooked beautifully. We also split the uni caviar dish that we ordered on the side and it was definitely my favorite part of the meal. SO rich and packing in flavor. Drinks here were also very yummy! One of the easiest 5 stars I'll ever give. Caviar Russe completely blew my expectations out of the water, and I'm shocked it's not more highly recommended. My friend and I came, and we were pleasantly surprised from beginning to end of our amazing experience here. Service can't be beat. Everyone is so attentive, and we felt really looked after. The interior of the restaurant is also so beautiful, and the seating is so comfortable. We opted for the 3-course tasting menu and also added an additional uni caviar dish from their signatures. Honestly, best decision ever because the uni caviar + caviar chips were delectable. Even the chips themselves were insanely delicious, and we lamented over the fact that we couldn't buy the chips in bags at grocery stores. 3 courses doesn't seem filling, but it definitely is with all the additions and sides that are included in the meal. Firstly, they gave us a small bite (I can't remember what it was but it was some fish pastry with fish filling), and it was a good palette starter. Then, the freshly baked bread came along with the 3 butters and spreads, and we had a fun time trying different combinations. Every bite was incredible, and I thoroughly enjoyed my halibut, wagyu, and panna cotta. They also came out with a bunch of small desserts, such as madeleines and chocolates and a chocolate parfait, all of which were phenomenal too. Overall, I can't say enough positive things about Caviar Russe. For a one-star, you're having a three-star experience. I will never stop raving about this restaurant. The selection of caviar is good. The menu is designed towards the tourists crowd. A landmark establishment, located in a landmark spot within the landmark city. Thus, it was odd to not have been here before. Perhaps it has something to do with spending a record $450 for lunch per person. With the types of caviars available on the menu, walking out of here spending 50k per person would also be much easier than one would imagine. But then again, one does not get a Michelin star for eight years in a row just for charging immense amounts of cash. With the restaurant operation directed by a gentleman by the name of Ilya Panchernikov, it is a decadent place that has been in New York for many years and in 2016 opened a new location in Miami. Coming from multiple decades within the caviar industry, Caviar Russe has primarily established itself in the US as an importer and distributor, rather than a restaurant. But, the latter followed and now with two locations and a Michelin star, Caviar Russe is now more than a classic Eastern European Import Export business. Finding the history of the company beyond this is extremely difficult, likely because it's not as pure as their caviar or perhaps there is a less sinister reason. So, let's talk about the service experience to start as that is the area where most effort is required to continue being seen as a premier establishment in the post pandemic world. Although good, it was not excellent. Arriving a five minutes before opening and reservation, we were promptly seated, but it was obvious that the chef was not happy about that. With the lack of waiting area, that seemed like a very reasonable decision on behalf of the hosts, but the attitude of the chef was just unwelcoming. It was an over the top gesture for the waiters to pull out the table every time to make sure that guests can sit comfortably. The service was prompt and efficient throughout the dinner, but a bit cold. Yes, we all know the soul of the restaurant hails from a cold place, but even in Eastern Europe the service level is much more welcoming. The waiters were also not very knowledgeable on the dishes, for example not knowing the greens that are brought on the dish (two of them did not know and did not bother to find out despite saying they will ask the chef). The manager walking the floor eventually knew when I was persistent in the ask. The server also advised us that it's the same ossetra caviar is within the tasting menu as ordering it by gram, and it was clearly a completely different caviar on the tasting menu and of much lower quality. The table was quickly able to tell that as we also had supposedly the same caviar ordered by the gram. All of this was not necessarily a deal breaker, but just areas where servers need to be trained, educated and lightened up a little to be friendlier with the guests. So, as far as the meal. Caviar selection by the gram is vast and quality is superb. The scallop with mushroom was a great dish. The presentation of the melon jelly dish was very neat and the taste immaculate. The tuna was wonderful. Every dish was beautiful and delicious in its own way, demonstrating creativity and more importantly, attention to quality. Some reasonably priced champagnes on the menu as well to chase it all down. Caviar Russe overall is a gem within the 1 star Michelin category. While it is expensive relative to other establishments within the guide, one has to remember that they are eating caviar after all. read more

Overall: There are no real surprises here. With "caviar" in the name, you expect a high-end experience and that's what you get. Expect to pay $250pp with the three course menu, some supplements, and a glass of wine. Though you can certainly pay much more for caviar and wine if you wish. The menu probably won't give you anything you haven't seen before, but the ingredients are high quality and the execution is very good. Come here if you have a taste for high-end classics (or are looking to acquire one). Atmosphere: The building is a relatively short one on a street full of skyscrapers, and the restaurant is on the second floor up a single flight of stairs. You walk directly into the kitchen (which is interesting) and then left or right into one of the dining areas. The vibe is old-school elegance -- white tablecloths, chandeliers, and wall art. We were on the side of the window facing the street so we had decent natural light, but the other room may be a bit dimmer. Service: It's as you expect from a place with this reputation, the service was fast and professional. Our waiter did a great job explaining the menu options and we did not feel pressured towards ordering any of the more expensive caviar tastings (though other tables around us did partake). Food: True to the name, there is an abundance of caviar to be had depending on your preference and budget. The best bang for your buck is probably the $150pp three course menu, though a la carte options are available and caviar-specific tasting options are also available for steeper prices. The three course menu consists mostly of classic high-end combinations: lobster and creme fraise, foie gras and fruit, scallop and truffle, etc. Some of the dishes have caviar, and some have a supplemental charge (around $30, probably not enough to dissuade you from ordering them if you're already here). There are two dessert options on the 3 course menu but you don't have to order either of them -- you can choose any 3 options. You also get a first bite, bread with a variety of interesting butters (including caviar butter) and a robust platter of sweet bites to finish. So it's effectively a 6 course meal, and the latter "free" desserts are large enough where we recommend that you go with 3 savory courses as your choices (especially if you choose the foie gras, which kinda counts as half a dessert). We ordered 3 different courses each and shared them all. Our favorites were the lobster, scallop, and foie gras, but everything was high quality. read more
