Awesome little place! For one of our first meals in Chicago, we really enjoyed this place for dinner. We came for dinner as a group of six and checked ahead of time about making a reservation. The wait staff told us to just walk in and we could be seated easily. True to their word, we waited all of 3 minutes before a table was set and we had menus in front of us. Definitely interesting flavors to pair with beer but ALL of the food was great! We had quite a variety of food having a semi-large group and every bite was delicious. I didn't want to write a review on this place because I don't want people to find it. It's so good I just want to keep it my secret but they deserve a review. First of all it's in a wonderful location on a stretch of LaSalle street that's not overpopulated with bars or big crowds which makes it very cozy and tranquil but it's at the same time a trendy location where one can sit by the open windows or on the sidewalk and enjoy the movement on the street. The service has been great both times we've been there. We were greeted enthusiastically but without being overbearing. They notice the little details such as clean tables, silverware, empty glasses. The servers come at the right time and not every 5 minutes like other places which is very irritating. The beer selection is fantastic. We had the flights and they always have rotating beer flights which keeps it interesting every time. As far as the food goes, we've tried the lamb flatbread one time and the other, we tried the buttermilk biscuit sandwich. On both ocassions, the dishes were spot on and delicious. Went to this bar this past weekend and absolutely loved it! We made reservations and got in right away. We were seated at a more loungey table (couches and armchairs) instead of the dining room tables, which we weren't thrilled with at first, but since the service and food was so great we didn't end up caring where we sat. The beer options are great and they have such a variety, it's so nice to go somewhere that has all types of beer on draft. On top of the great beer, the food was excellent and so well priced. We split the burger and house made chips, a side of mac n cheese, and a taco, and all of it was amazing. Will definitely be going back! read more

We loveeeeeee the Centennial. Its one of my favorite neighborhood spots. We always get the charcuterie board (whatever the server recommends) and we like to try the different beer specials they always have going on. The patio is super cute. We've actually only had drinks out there so I'm looking forward to checking out the inside bar next time we go back. The service is 5 stars in itself. This is an updated review of a great place. I hadn't been here for a while. Nice brunch menu. Had a very nice skillet with eggs, potatoes with poblano peppers, and cheese. Was great. Very nice and thoughtfully created craft beer menu. Also a few ciders. Stuck with beer. Had a very good red ale, a great coffee stout, and an interesting melon mango mash-up that worked for me. Service was on the spot and friendly. Place was surprisingly crowded for an afternoon. But, if you do things right, a crowd is not so surprising. read more

The place is cool but the drinks cost more on the check than on the menu, they were out of a lot of beers, and service was terrible. The bartender Trent forgot to make cocktails I ordered and I had to stare him down while he was flirting with patrons to get him to make the drinks I ordered. Then he claimed he took so long because he was "putting out fires." The service staff took as many drinks as I was able to order from them in the nearly two hours I spent there. There's so many other bars around River North. It's not worth putting up with the BS to go here. read more

Centennial is a hidden gem in River North -- great atmosphere, nice beer selection, and a pretty wide range of food options. Popped in for dinner on a Friday night, and it was busy! We opted to split a couple of tapas and have some drinks instead of going the full blown entree route. Quick service, and tasty food. It gets pretty loud in the bar area there -- not sure if it was the post-work happy hour crew or the acoustics, but I felt like I was yelling at times! Will return, but probably during the week when it's a little less busy. read more

We randomly decided to start our night here as the reviews looked good on yelp. I've learned fk trust my fellow helpers and have not been led astray yet. We initially thought it might be slower and chose this place to avoid reservations on a Friday night. We where wrong. Greeted by friendly staff we where told the wait was gonna be awhile for a table. We quickly noticed two bar seats open up and grabbed them. The wait staff was amazing and knew their beer/drinks. We ate some chips and queso while sipping my flight of samples that they so conveniently had a whole menu off. Again the staff knew all the beers and found drinks quickly based off my one word beer style. Next we split the Brussels sprouts and gyro. So so good. Food was gastronomically good and I polished off another beer from their list of 100s. To get five stars yah gotta be perfect. And on a packed Friday night this place did it well! read more

Had dinner here over the weekend with a group of friends ok the patio and I can honestly say we wu re enjoyed ourselves. The sever was super sweet and had suggested a delicious strawberry sour beer for me to finish the dinner off with! She was present without being overbearing which is honestly such a great thing when you're out having dinner! The menu kinda had a mixture of Mediterranean and American. Normally I am all about lamb Mediterranean but I decided on their burger with some bacon added. Honestly though the Gouda was the best part of the burger! (I asked if they had ranch or bbq sauce for my friends and honestly it's kinda weird they didn't have it.) My friend said that his sweet corn fritters and salmon toast was also delicious! The rose my friend was also drinking she seemed to enjoy as well. I wish I was in more of a beer mode so I could of tried a few more options on the list seeing that is what they specialize in. Very charming spot with terrific service, beer, and food. The ambiance is very warm and welcoming. The 1888 building was renovated into a contemporary but comfortable decor, and Centennial took care to use lots of reclaimed materials. The service was great. (I think her name was Abby.) She was friendly, offered a history of the place, and made some great recommendations. Centennial has 56 beers on tap, including a healthy selection of local, craft options. My wife and enjoyed a beer flight (four beers for $14 to $16), and the Bernie Milk Stout-Nitro gets a big thumbs up from me. We ordered some food to share and were very pleased with everything. The Salmon toast was fresh and delicious. The cheese plate had some tasty selections, and we were particularly impressed with the Hooks Gorgonzola. There are three distinct parts of this review: Beer: 5 stars. Amazing selection and a well updated list. Tons of regional stuff as well as stuff from all over the world! Truly something for everyone. Food: 3.5/5. It was fine. Fries were obviously good, and I really enjoyed the scallops as well. The beet salad was essentially just the Brussels sprouts salad with a few beets and a hunk of goat cheese on top. Service: 2/5. Our server was super curt and seemed annoyed with us from the outset. We would make clear eye contact and she would ignore us, she brought flights without telling us which beer was which. Was a real bummer because we would've enjoyed more beer had she been better! This night we arrived, we had just left Goodman Theater after seeing the "A Christmas Carol" play. It was beyond amazing. But I was starving. Googled great beer and burgers and found Centennial. Picked this place because I thought all the exposed brick was divine. I loved it. That's where it all ends. This place is trash. Complete and utter trash. When we entered the restaurant, there wasn't a hostess, I had to ask people who were eating if we had to seat ourselves, they were very tipsy, but they laughed and said I could speak to the bartender. Easy, went to the bar asked if we seat ourselves, and was instructed by the bartender "Ohhh he should be there, just have a seat they'll come to you". Cool. Sat near the window inside for a few seconds. Male comes up smelling STRONG of liquor, dude had Dragon breath. I flinched as he handed my Mom and I menus, little too close. I never even got the chance to look at the menu mind you. He asked "Are you here for drinks or dinner?". I responded "Dinner" before I could even suggest a drink he blurts out "The kitchen closes in 30 minutes" my Mother glances up at me as I looked at my Mother quickly because of how he said it. He then says "No the kitchen closes in 10 minutes" I look at my Mother like OK, we may have to go, I was starving. I never even said anything, then he says "No the kitchens closed". I looked at my Mother, they didn't want us there. Fine. He then says "I looked at the clock wrong, the kitchen is closed". If this man hadn't of been so drunk, he could've told us from the get go what time the kitchen closes. I looked at my Mother as he was standing there "Let's go", ANOTHER MALE comes up "Yeah he was wrong the kitchens closed" this man, didn't ask if we wanted a drink at all, he took the menus then walked away, not even given us the option. We were in town visiting family and they suggested this place as a cool-looking casual place they had yet to try. We went in with three children under the age of three- and they were awesome about that! You could tell a lot of young families come there and they are pretty accustomed to the likes of us, even if you wouldn't call it "kid-friendly", so to speak. Awesome beer list and really interesting menu. It was not at all what I would have expected- a lot of Mediterranean influence in the menu- but I thought it was so, so good! The only reason this is a four-star review is because literally everyone else I was with thought it was a three-star meal. Not sure where the disconnect is, but, worth a mention, nonetheless. Several positives with this place. The beer selections and flights were very good. The decor and friendliness of the staff was also very good. The problem was with the food. We ordered the Butternut squash salad to share as a starter. There was little to no squash but mostly radicchio lettuce. We also ordered the lamb flatbread but it never came out. Our dinners arrived so we decided to pass on it. The pork shank was not very meaty and I had to saw away at what little there was. The cabbage and dumpling sides were excellent. My husband ordered the the blackened shrimp which was mostly a bed of arugula. I ordered the apple crumble for my husband because it was his birthday - very delicious. Awesome joint! My boyfriend and I went in on a Friday night about 8ish and were immediately seated when we walked in. They were busy with a few after-work happy hour parties but the staff was right away accommodating. The decor and style of the place was rustic contemporary which we liked very much. The service was quick, friendly and attentive. I really appreciated when the waitress saw I was having some indecisive issues on the beer I wanted and took to the initiative to offer tastings. Not only did I select a beer I wasn't going to pick initially but that showed proactivity and good customer service on her part - thanks! My boyfriend and I ordered an app (Moroccan skewers) and split a burger. We weren't too hungry. He ordered 2 cocktails and I ordered the Meriwether. Besides the great services, the best part was the Moroccan skewers - oh em gee! They had the perfect charcoaled ribeye taste with onions and small baby potatoes. I was in awe! Centennial hosted a rehearsal dinner for a family member's wedding. The space was great as we had the entire second floor to ourselves. The space was easy to mingle and having the entire bar to ourselves was perfect. All of the staff was friendly and the drinks were great! The food- charcuterie and various sandwich options were delicious! The best part of the service was the help that I received from Jon and others. I had made a video to air during the dinner. This place was a big disappointment. With "crafted beer" in their name, I assumed they brewed their own beer, but found they just served a variety of beer. Even so, it was a challenge finding beers I liked, though I admit I can be picky. But the menu was the real disappointment. Nothing sounded that appetizing. I ended up getting a burger, but despite me saying "medium well," it was rare and had kind of a sharp, nasty taste, which I assume was the horseradish mayo the bartender mentioned when describing it. Centennial was exactly what is purports to be, a craft beer haven in a neighborhood with an underwhelming number of quality establishments devoted to beers. At 6pm on a Friday evening, I entered the predictably packed and well appointed bar area. The first floor impressed me with the layout, as I don't think I would have minded sitting in the "lounge area" (plush tables and couches near a roaring fireplace), the bar or tables adjacent to the bar. Nice to have three workable options for your drink and meal service. The first floor was pretty full, though, and it was recommended I head upstairs for more room. I ventured to the 2nd floor to find a very similar layout. The fireplace was simply a shelf with a few lit candles, but I noted that the lounge area still appeared quite comfortable, as did the tables and separate dining area. I'm a bar man, as I like to see and be seen, so I elected for a seat in the corner. This bar has a foot railing, which is crucial to my comfort when seated at bars or high tops. At this point, a few things started to dawn on me, not about the space, but the clientele. I realize this particular demographic might have been underserved in this ever gentrifying community of River North... but nowhere else have I seen such a collection of horn rimmed glasses, barely tamed beards and plaid shirts, in one place. Most of the men where "that guy." As though the male millennials had just discovered beer, and 40 is the new 20. They seemed as happy as pigs in nicely decorated poop. Conversely, I did not gaze upon many women in the place. The few that were at the bar and tables were definitely on dates. There might have been 2 or 3 more with a group in the separate dining area. My point is that the female to male ratio was conspicuously low, and I know there are some die hard beer chicks out there. So I used to be a beer guy, and have since reduced considerably, my consumption of the suds. I ordered a Kettle One Martini and I think it came with too much vermouth. The bartender did refresh my memory on faking ginger ale by using coke & sprite... so that was fun. One main reason I had for checking this place out, other than it was hot and new in River North (cause that never happens) was to try the smoked Kielbasa. The beer selection clearly made the guys happy at Centennial and I think you could argue the food menu is a bit guy-centric as well. Pulled pork sandwiches, charcuterie, and pork shank are just a few of the highlights. I ended up ordering the kielbasa as planned. The sausage was pretty good, but the bacon laden sauce was a little too salty for this palette. Still, can't really go wrong with bacon. I also got to try the broccoli salad, which was really quite good, and dissipated some of the sodium from my dish. The kielbasa was recommended on the menu with an amber ale. Oddly enough for a craft brew gastropub, they were out of ambers (one of the few beers I drink regularly), but the replacement that was recommended was tasty with the meal. So come to Centennial and stand in awe of what is an impressive draught selection. Rub elbows with the common man, who probably has an IT job and a 401K. Ladies, bring your friends because there are beers and cocktails for you as well! I'd certainly come back to Centennial to give other menu items and craft kegs a fair shake. read more

I saw Centennial when it first opened and I've been wanting to try it for a while. I waited until there was a good amount of positive reviews for me to try it out. I was a little nervous about coming here because I'm not the biggest fan of beer and I'm super picky about the ones I actually like. I came in on a Sunday so I wasn't really looking to drink a lot so I opted for their ciders. They didn't have that many options for me maybe 3 or 4 but that's not their specialty so I won't fault them. I ordered their mac and cheese, burger, and my boyfriend ordered their pulled pork sandwich. I loved the mac and cheese and would definitely come back just for that. It comes with gruyere, and smoked gouda cheese, and topped with a panko cruse. This was so good! The burger comes with a side of salad or fries and I chose the salad because my boyfriend got the fries. I was actually surprised by how good the salad! The vinegar dressing they use on it is something I would bottle up. The burger was also pretty good. I'm not usually a burger person though so I probably wouldn't order it again. It was also a big portion for me and I ended up only eating half. The burger came with pickles (although, I wish this was on the side and a quarter of a pickle rather than just tiny slices), onions, lettuce, gouda cheese, and I added bacon to it. I ended up eating the other half for lunch the next day and was surprised at how good it still was. My boyfriend enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich. The service was really attentive and our waitress was super nice. On a Sunday it wasn't crowded at all and for lunch time I always see some people relaxing in the outdoor seating area.
