Today was different than the other day. I was craving a donut today so I stopped to get a couple at Central donut. I ordered 2 strawberry jelly donuts and when the server went to load the filling the machine did not work, it seemed to be a power problem maybe a blown fuse, not her fault at all. So I got two regular donuts instead. I got a small kolache as well. The donuts did not seem fresh today and the kolache was just OK. The donuts and kolache were not warmed up. read more

I'd definitely come here for their kolaches. They have the right consistency in the dough, it's not dry or taste too floury but they actually are yeast type rolls. So check them out, I know a lot of people don't know it's there yet but they are in between a liquor store and a hair salon. It's a standard kolache and donut shop. They have a coffee drip machine and a machine for cappucino style flavored drinks as well so don't expect any barista style stuff. Definitely going back for kolaches. read more

I bought a long john with bavarian cream. The donut was good, but the custard was only inside 1/4 of the donut, which was kind of a let down. I wanted to rate the kolache, but they failed to give it to me. I didn't notice until after I drove off, which I paid for so remember to check your bags before you leave here. For a little hole-in-the-wall in a very small strip mall, this place packs an amazing punch with their sausage croissants and croissant sandwiches. Seriously, their jalapeno cheese sausage croissant is the best sausage kolache in town. The outer pastry shell is a killer tubular croissant and the sausage link inside is so tender and juicy that it's hard to describe. And everything here is inexpensive, too. And they open EARLY, like 5 am. Who knows? Maybe someday I'll even try one of their donuts! read more

I went in on a holiday morning. They were closing in about 10 minutes, but all I wanted was ONE donut. The girl at the counter never spoke to me. I noticed a pastry that looked like it had a cream cheese center. I love cream cheese, even though it did not look too appetizing, I may have tried it. Staff was very nice. Donuts and kolaches are fresh and very well priced. I got a bag of each for about $8 total. The donuts are soft and fluffy, kolaches are pretty standard. My one observation is that the donuts (cinnamon twist, eclair, regular frosted) don't really taste like... anything? I can't speak to the cake or old fashioned but it was like eating air. Pleasant but not sure I would try again, maybe for a fritter or cake donut. Central has been the go to place for donuts in my family for about a year now. This local owned place has outstanding donuts at a very reasonable price. Nothing fancy or overcomplicated here, just great donuts, kolaches, croissants, etc. along with fast and friendly service. Sure, you can hit up RR when you want the absolute best and willing to wait 45 min for donuts, or you can wait in line at the new Dunkin for stale and flavorless crappy donuts. YUMMY! This place is located close to the Clay Madsen center. The service is always really friendly and fast. I enjoy that I can get breakfast for two, two donuts, and a drink for a little over $5. Good Donuts. I do not know much else as we get these donuts at work from a coworker but I have had the regular glazed, chocolate glazed, and the cream cheese donut. All 3 of these beat Round Rock donuts in my opinion. The apple fritters and other miscellaneous donuts that he has brought in look quite good as well. I really love this place. Central Donut in Round Rock offers a small-town feel with homemade taste. The plain glazed donuts are great, kolaches are also good and the apple fritters are tops. Honestly we go here instead of going to Round Rock Donuts for apple fritters. The apple fritters here are warm, full of taste, and don't have the 'day old' feeling that I've experienced at other donut spots. Also, when we walked in, the lady behind the counter greeted us cheerfully and helped us very quickly. You can almost find this level of service at, say, Dunkin Donuts, but not really. KOLACHE REVIEW: This is a bit outside my Golden Radius, but still within striking distance. I was on my way back from an interview, so I thought I'd pop in and have a kolache. After all--"When you hear the call of the kolache, only a kolache will do" ~William Shakespeare (Or was it Winston Churchill? Perhaps neither; but still a good and poignant saying.) The place was clean--which on my kolache journey, I'm discovering, doesn't seem to be such an issue in Austin. In California and New York, I've seen donut shops that would give a health inspector palpitations. Not a huge selection of kolaches--sausage, sausage and cheese, sausage jalapeno and cheese. *fweeee* (That was the sound of my little imaginary noisemaker. Please read as much sarcasm and snark into it as needed.) BUT, they did gain a little ground with the inclusion of the Czech kolache's French cousin, the croissant! I ordered a sausage and cheese in both kolache, and croissant. The were indeed tasty. The kolache had a nice not-too-doughy consistancy, and the luscious flakiness of the croissant made me feel like I was cheating on the kolache program. Nice, good, 3-star, A-OK kolaches. Maybe a half-star for the croissant. 3 1/2 stars. These guys still subscribe to the seemingly prevailing standard that when you say "sausage" in the description, you can serve a hot dog. Once again, I found fancy pigs-in-a-blanket. This place is dangerously close to my house, and dangerously easy for a quick pullover before work. I'm both thrilled and devastated about this. Full disclosure- my coworker/neighbor has been speculating for months that the "opening soon" sign was a cover up. We have been waiting and watching to go check it out as soon as it opened. We probably watch too much "Weeds." So today was the day. Turns out I was the last to go- my friend already went, and my husband had already fallen victim to the "it's just SO close" aspect en route to work. I was the last to know. It isn't like, the most crazy original delicious food you ever got. But it's fast and SO CLOSE. I could pogo stick there if I had a pogo stick. I could ride a donkey there if I had a donkey. I got a potato cheese and egg taco. They microwaved it, and it was bland, but okay. I also split a glazed donut - delicious. It tasted totally fresh. My husband had a sausage croissant and loved it. He recommends you steer clear of the coffee. They have a huge drink cooler though, with chocolate milk- SO DANGEROUS. Good thing I'm running a couple minutes late to work 90% of the time. read more

We frequented the one off of Braker Ln. back when we lived in Austin. This is the same place and just as good. The staff is always friendly. Probably the best kolaches you can find. They have a great bread to hotdog ratio. Most places have waaaaayy too much bread, but it's just right here. And the bread is sweet, so you get that mix of salty w/ the dog and sweet bread. Great combination. Donuts are great too. Can't go wrong w/ glazed or chocolate covered. The kiddos always get chocolate sprinkles or strawberry sprinkles. The price is right too. The large cheese and jalapeño kolache is the best thing that they offer. It's a hearty sausage with specially baked dough all around. It's yeasty, stretchy, smoky, and salty to contrast with the donuts. I think there isn't much of a better value you could find at other donut shops. The basic glazed bread donuts and donut holes are good and best fresh in the morning. The cake donuts are great and there is a decent variety. I also get the blueberry and the chocolate chocolate. If you are into croissant sandwiches, they look good, but I can't say how they are yet. All in all, this is your basic quick stop and a great value for a special morning treat. I'm mostly Gluten Free, but do splurge on doughnuts once a month on my way into work. Although I usually visit my favorite chain, I decided to branch out this time. I got a chocolate cake glazed and a custard filled, maple iced. Pros: Location: convenient for me to stop before work. Freshness: I was there at 6:30ish and could smell the fried, doughy goodness as soon as I stepped out of the car. Communication: I hate to make this an issue, but I visited another shop where the employee didn't speak much English and it was a little bit tough. No such difficulties here! Semi-Made to Order: they fill your doughnut in front of you with one of four fillings. Neutrals: Chocolate Cake Glazed: not exactly what I remembered this kind of doughnut being like. It wasn't at all dense, or crunchy. The glaze was also very minimal. Plusses if that's what you like! It also tasted a little bit like blueberry which was kind of weird. Cons: Custard Filled, Maple Iced: specifically the custard filling. When I first bit into this doughnut, I didn't have a problem with it. The more of the custard I got to, though, the odder the whole thing became. The filling tasted kind of... plastic-y. I actually wound up saving about 2/3 of this doughnut for my less discerning younger brother to finish. A real shame because the bread and icing weren't bad (could have maybe used a stronger maple flavor), but the filling I chose ruined it. I paid $2 total for my doughnuts. I'll try someplace else next time. read more
