David Flores is single-handedly serving up THE BEST Peruvian food in Texas. He is extremely tenacious yet incessantly modest, though there's nothing modest about these intense Peruvian dishes. It's an enigma as to how such a tiny truck can be the home of such impactful food. My husband is Peruvian. I love Peruvians. Therefore, I love Peruvian food. That's right... I've got a marriage certificate to back up my dedication to lomo saltado and anticuchos. So when I heard about Ceviche7 having food as good as abuela's, I had to experience the hype. The wait times are notoriously bad (as they are at all good Austin food spots), but what do you expect from a one-man show? To save time, we placed our order via phone, and David offered to call us when it was time to leave the hotel. At 10:45 pm, my hubby, kiddo, and I arrived to pick up our order: Lomo Saltado, Anticuchos (beef), Arroz Chaufa, and of course, Ceviche de Pescado. Everything was ready except for the arroz chaufa. The intoxicating aromas were too much to withstand. It was freezing cold outside, but with a cup of rocoto sauce in one hand and a fork in the other, I threw self-control to the wind. The lomo saltado (made with quality beef tenderloin) was more complex than the hundred I'd had before it. The anticuchos were well marinated, seared to perfection, and pleasantly tender, unlike the chewy shoe soles I'm used to. My two beef dishes disappeared in record time. As we waited for the fried rice, David surprised my daughter with some french fries and ketchup. Moments later, the fries had also disappeared, and it was time to head back with our arroz chaufa and ceviche. The arroz chaufa was delicious with its hints of peppers, cumin, and ginger... but the *real* standout was the ceviche. Stuffed to the brim, I collapsed into my hotel bed, completely flustered with anticipation... I just couldn't handle it. Still laying there, I carefully guided the ceviche to my face hole. Peruvian Mahi Mahi and lightly fried sweet potato sopped up the leche de tigre in a glorious way. The boiled sweet potatoes were sweeter and creamier than I could fathom. Yes, I devoured an entire ceviche in bed. Yes, I was in tremendous pain from the blatant gluttony. And, yes, it was totally worth it. David not only made me want to pack my bags and move to Austin, but he showed me what Peruvian food is *supposed* to taste like. If you come to Austin without visiting Ceviche7, you're doing yourself a disservice. read more

This humble food truck is a hidden gem! I went with a group of colleagues as soon as it opened and was so impressed by the work ethic of the owner. He was not at all intimidated by eight hungry people surrounding his truck. He kept us updated on our orders and really helped each individual in the group choose a meal that would be satisfying to them. I went with the ceviche...because duh! And I did not regret it one bit. I gobbled it down so fast that I didn't have time to snap a picture! Beyond the fact that I was hungry, the ingredients were so fresh and so well paired. Guy in front of me started chatting and mentioned how his wife is Peruvian but her cooking is not as good as Ceviche7 so he comes here to eat Peruvian. That says it all right there! Had every intention of getting something. I pulled up, scanned the menu and watched the guy in the trailer touch EVERYTHING without gloves. My teammate had been lauding this place for months before we decided to check it out. Though the service is fairly slow in a rush hour, consider that the truck is entirely a one man show. Even according to the Peruvian we were talking to, the food is authentic, high quality stuff. The pork belly sandwitch is hands down amazing. The flavor profile is Rich and creamy, even when I had the second half the next day. The fries were so crispy that they easily made an impression. I would have to say the ceviche leaned on the salty side and I wish it was more refreshing. This is a must whenever we visit Austin. We stumbled upon this gem almost 2 years ago by way of Yelp. I had to try it since I was heading to Peru the same year. It lived up to the 5 star reputation then and now. Last year when we visited, we couldn't find the location... couldn't remember the street, etc since it had a food truck-like set up. Last night, I searched for Peruvian food trucks and found it again and saved it in the Yelp app so that we will always know how to find Ceviche 7, the luck 7 of all eateries. Lomo Saltado is indeed as amazing as everybody else on here says it is. Freshly made by their own chef, the beef with rice and fries covered in their own handmade spicy sauce that they make from scratch before coming to the food truck every day was just out of this world. They don't really have a big menu and I think they just use beef is all but that's okay. I was stunned enough by the meal to give it a 5/5. Came here twice btw and had the same thing twice so yea 5/5 is set in stone. Great pricing as well for the amount of food you get. read more

To summarize in a line- an unassuming affordable spot with bang on flavors. We ordered 1 pan con chicharron (pork sandwich) and 1 lomo saltado (beef stir fry with rice). Both came with a side of pipping hot steak style fries and a special homemade sauce which hit the taste buds. The pan con chicharron was all that I would want in a sandwich. The sweet potato crisps in it along with the dressings take it to another level. The flavor of the lomo saltado is unique, in a good way. We came here for dinner on a weekday. Ordered the Ceviche de Pescado and the Lomo Saltado - finally found a great Peruvian restaurant in Austin! (and it's in a tiny food truck) First came the Lomo Saltado, which was delicious! The first thing that caught my attention was the orange sauce provided with the lomo, which was mildly spicy and mixed great with the rice and fries adjacent to the lomo. The meat itself was cooked very well, even if you don't consider the fact that this came from a tiny food truck - it was juicy and flavor-filled, with plenty of sauce all around it as well as the caramelized red onions and tomato. It had a delicious taste that wasn't dependent on the cilantro, but the little bit on the top improved it still. The steak fries were tasty and crunchy too, and the rice was a bit dry, which meant it absorbed the flavor of the sauce and adjacent ingredients. Following that, we had the ceviche, which was marinating since he started making the lomo - needless to say, it was juicy and delicious, with the raw fish and all the onions and corn having the same juicy flavor from sitting in the citrus. It used the real peruvian corn (choclo), which is larger and has a thicker texture inside. It was even garnished with the snacky, crunchy version of the corn commonly served at peruvian restaurants while you wait. Delicious, and again, very reasonable portions. For this dish, he asks how spicy you'd like it - we got mild, which was more than enough (unless you love super spicy thai food, in which case you can definitely go with medium or hot). Overall, being born and raised in Peru, I am very happy with the both the quality and quantity of the food, and the friendly service is a big plus. Both of the dishes we had tasted great, just like my family back home makes. Having finally found a good place for Peruvian food in Austin, I will definitely come back. read more

This is a hidden gem in Austin. I came here with a friend not really knowing what to expect, but it completely exceeded expectations. Both my friend and I are vegetarian, and he made a vegetarian stir fry for both of us which was fabulous! The chef talked to us for a while about his life and how he ended up in Austin, and was very friendly/welcoming. The food did take a while, but he made everything from scratch after we ordered and it was totally worth it. If you want an adventure, I highly recommend checking this place out. Although I'm no expert on Peruvian cuisine, Ceviche 7 has never failed to delight! The chef, David, is an extremely friendly guy - you can tell that he really puts his heart into putting your meal together. I ate the anticucho and was pleasantly surprised at how much food I got for just $4.50. My friends ate the arroz chaufa and the pan con chicarron and loved it! Make sure you have ample time if you choose to eat here. Since David does all the cooking himself from a tiny trailer, wait time for food can range from 20-45 minutes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but are shorter during the week. Further, there isn't too much seating space (one large bench and table, and a couple of chairs), so this might not be ideal for eating out with a group of friends. Lastly, there's a big grove of bamboo next to the trailer that is home to hoards of mosquitos. Put some bug spray on if you intend on sitting there during a summer evening! read more
