Delicious food and nice ambience! The service here is also quick and friendly. I've been here a couple of times with a small group and also larger party to celebrate a birthday. The taste and service remain consistent. Standout dishes are the curries and fried fish. Good cocktail selection as well. Highly recommend checking this spot out if you love Thai food!

My friend and I came here for dinner about a month ago and it didn't disappoint. It's not a huge space and you will most likely need a reservation (especially for a weekend), but it's worth it. For food, we ordered the peanut spring rolls which were pretty tasty. For entrees, we shared everything and ordered the sea bass, the wok greens, and the pad Thai. I liked the fish and the greens a lot, but the pad Thai had a lack of flavor to me. As for drinks, we ordered the after school and a Thai iced tea and both were very good. The service was good, but since they were so crowded, it felt very rushed at times. I don't know that I'd come running back here again.

Both the food and drinks here were truly delicious! The Leonardo on the Beach cocktail tastes like a coconut matcha with a little bit of spice - so good that I had to get another. For an entree, I went with one of their most popular, the crab curry, and it didn't disappoint. Super flavorful and the perfect amount of spice. Very cute interior and nice staff as well.

My friends and I tried many dishes here and they were all so good! I was also starving after a long flight so everything we ordered really hit the spot: - sator goong: this was my favorite! so spicy and flavorful, tasted great over rice - squid ink fried rice - kee mao seafood - peek gai tod: these chicken wings were another standout, very crispy - khao pud mun neuer - thai tea: super refreshing, just the right sweetness and the pick-me-up I needed Service was also friendly and prompt! Our water glasses were always filled when running low, which was appreciated. Overall, I had a great time here catching up with my friends over amazing food. I highly recommend to those looking for your Thai food fix!

I went to Chalong for dinner with a friend and it was amazing. I love Thai restaurants that offer more specialized menus. We ordered: - pomelo salad - such a unique and delicious dish, the combo of ingredients surprised me but every bite is a flavor bomb - crab curry - steamed fish - longan sticky rice Everything was delicious, i have no complaints. It's a little tight, dark, and loud inside but it makes sense for a popular restaurant. Our waitress was great and provided helpful recommendations. I'd definitely go back to try more of their menu!

Definitely recommend making a reservation as the place was bustling during dinner. Service was good with the place full of people. The goat curry and crab curry were both delicious and full of flavor! The duck was well cooked and the apps were so good especially the wings! The iced tea had a lot of ice but it was yummy. A little pricey in the end but it was a delicious meal.

Sat at the bar. The bartender and the rest of the staff were very friendly and jovial. Great cocktails. Had the Baerng Golae (shrimp tacos with a coconut crisp shell) which was delicious albeit messy(they provide hand wipes). The Pla Mok Krueng (Chilean sea bass) was fantastic (just the right amount of spice for me but I have a high heat tolerance) which I recommend you try.

Very solid Thai food in the city!! The fish was SUPERRR tender and melted in my mouth. Also, the sauce was beautiful. The wings were also very juicy and crispy. The other dishes I think were just not really my taste, but I can see how others might like them.

The Thai food selection in the city keeps getting better and better, and now I feel as though even if I've found the one Thai spot, there's another better one out there. We ordered: Cocktails- Leonardo on The Beach (Krabi) The Pirate of Tarutao (Satoon) Food- Platod Kee Mao Seafood I love that their cocktails menu has the corresponding image with the drink so there aren't any surprises / you know what to expect. The Pirate of Tarutao came in a cute barrel cup and the inside of the drink reminded me of a moscow mule (in the best way, of course!). The platod dish was everything I had never had before-a sweet soy glaze sauce on top of a mildly fried fish. The kee mao was a bit spicy, but had a tinge of sweetness. The service and quality of food are chef's kiss and it's safe to say, this is definitely part of my Thai rotation. This is truly one of the underrated Thai spots in the city that you won't really find on social media, and I'd love for it to stay that way...

We just returned to this popular souther Thai spot and had a great meal. We went on MLK Day for lunch and the place was full within minutes. Make a reservation! Baerng Golae (coconut crisp grilled shrimp and famous curry paste from southern Thailand): still mouthwatering. Seafood Platod (deboned fried whole fish, sweet fish sauce, fried garlic and julienne scallion): still a great large dish to share. The branzino is not dry and the sauce is delicious. Mee Pum Riang (southern style pad Thai): very yummy. The coconut sauce is creamy and flavorful. Looking forward to our next visit.

Made a reservation for 2 easily the day before and went on a Friday night dinner. Seated very fast and our server was very attentive. Food came out extremely fast! I got the Green Brisket Curry and it was very flavorful with a good portion of brisket (took home leftovers). My friend of the Chicken See Lew and the noodles had a great texture. We split a Mango Sticky Rice which was also great. Overall it was a great experience and would definitely dine again to try the other menu items.

This is a great place for a big gathering and a family style meal! All the dishes were unique. Some highlights: - Lumpu Salad: It had the perfect level of spice. The scallops in this dish were delicious - Crab Curry: The crab flavors were strong & it tasted great with rice. Highly recommend Chalong was very crowded when we visited. They had long lines at the front for walk ins. Would recommend making a reservation before dining here!

Google Maps will not publish this review, so Yelp: 1). Food is EXTREMELY SWEET. This is not Thai, this is "Thai-style" food for Americans who don't know or like the real thing. The kitchen must put a tablespoon of sugar into every dish. My Thai wife could not finish her main course and muttered "what are they doing?" throughout the meal. 2) Their heat levels are one and two asterisks. The waitress strongly advised me (being white, I guess) that ** would be far too much, my head would explode, so I order *. It had no spice at all. On this scale, I would have preferred ****. 3) The food comes very fast, one course after another, to get you in and out for the next table. 4) US pop music is played extremely loud. Not for people who want to talk. All that said, the place is extremely popular with the targeted demographic. It is the only restaurant in Hell's Kitchen we have seen that has a line in the street. So the 4 concerns above a minority view. read more

What a meal! Incredible cocktail in the Biryani Passion, excellent appetizer in the Baerng Golae (tender shrimp in the most delicate coconut crisp wafer; 3 per order), spicy and delicious entrees in the Picanha Kra Praw (thai basil stir-fry with top sirloin) and Mee Pum Riang (southern style shrimp pad thai in a coconut cream sauce; noodles similar to spaghetti), and the perfect ending to our meal with the warm, coconut sticky rice. The food alone was outstanding, but service really capped it all off. Welcoming and kind staffing from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left. We will be back!! read more

It was our first time here :) The ambiance of the place is pleasant - very well done with a chill vibe and soothing music. They serve Southern Thai cuisine so not the usual stuff which is refreshing. We ordered the steamed fish, soft shell crab curry, and mee pum riang. They came with wings and a choice of drink for free for lunch special. The fried wings were delicious! Crunchy and with a slightly sweet/tangy taste. The steamed fish was a large boneless chunk with green herbs. The soft shell crab curry was one of the best dishes we'd ever had. It was very spicy with a slight sweet taste, but perfect with white rice. The mee pum riang was sweet and seemed like a Southern Thai take on Pad Thai which was definitely a good experience We got a birthday dessert as well since we were celebrating! Soooooooo good. Their pad thai is really different from what you would get from other thai restaurants--but it is a pleasant surprise. If you like coconut flavor--you would absolutely love it. Nutty and creamy but still has that tanginess you get from pad thai. Also highly recommend their crab curry. Covertly spicy but delicious. Great service and fun vibe. read more

Came here for dinner last night and given that the owners were the creators of fish cheeks and soothr I had high expectations and they did not disappoint. We got the two drink specials they were offering and they were both fantastic, albeit a bit hard to drink out of the bamboo cup. We ordered the jor pu for appetizers and I thought it was pretty decent. The tofu skin was nice and crispy and added a good flavor. There was plenty of crab filling inside and they definitely did not skimp. For entrees we got the crab curry and the moo hong. I would definitely recommend the crab curry, the flavor was excellent and there were nice large chunks of crab in it. The pork belly was good, but nothing special and if I came back again I would try something different. We ended our meal with the mango sticky rice which was also delicious but nothing out of the ordinary. Overall, I enjoyed this place and they had plenty of seats available for a Thursday night dinner which beats having to get a reservation in advance for places like fish cheeks and soothr. read more

We are from California and we're looking for a great recommendation for a Thai restaurant and we were lucky to experience this place. The manager Booky was very attentive, the food was out of this world. I've been raving about this place since I got home and highly recommend everyone and anyone to stop by and visit this place. The interior of the restaurant is nicely decorated and gets tons of natural light during the day. We loved the crab curry and the pork belly. Crab curry was flavorful and the spice definitely packed a punch, and the pork belly was so tender and paired nicely with the rice. read more

I try not to give many 5 star reviews after just one visit, but Chalong provided an exceptional meal. I highly recommend the Baerng Golae. These are crispy thai crepes stuffed with shrimp and a variety of toppings, eaten crunchy taco style. Throughout the meal, the heat was perfect for me. If you're someone who normally doesn't enjoy spicy food, I recommend you let your server know. Our server had knowledge of every dish, offered suggestions, and the timing of the meal was perfect. They have limited outdoor seating for nice days. read more

Beautiful and modern decor, extremely attentive and friendly staff. Great Thai iced tea, and friends got the coconut waters and were pleased. Did family style with a bunch of friends and got a little bit of everything. Everything was outstanding and unique. Sea bass in the banana leaf is next level. Food is quiiiite spicy, and our groups tolerance was pretty high. Err on the the milder side if you're unsure. read more

Now folks, this is my favorite curry of all time -- actually one of my favorite foods of all time -- and while it's common in LA where I used to live, it's not as common where I live now, in the Bay Area. And the restaurants that do carry it usually do not make it right and it's not very good. I am used to Massaman in the traditional preparation where it's more like a beef stew made with chunks of beef and needs to cook overnight. When done right it is the most aromatic curry ever -- it's almost like an aphrodisiac! -- and the beef comes out oh so tender. Usually if places have this curry but then offer a choice of protein, then it generally is not cooked properly, and that is actually how they prepare it at SaiTong. But because of such great reviews I decided to take a chance and try it. Well, let me tell you, it was definitely not the norm...it was absolutely delicious! I had it with chicken (they serve breast as default), and the chicken soaked up the curry really nicely. I also asked for there to be no onions, which I think alters the flavor of a curry too much. It does include the traditional potatoes and peanuts, and the potatoes were fine and cut into nice little chunks, the peanuts actually were thrown in raw.. what I think is the more traditional way which is to actually burn the peanuts a little bit, but that's okay, it didn't take down the dish any. Their brown rice is of the very dark kind, which I like, and goes so well with the curry. Service was wonderful from the bartender but was also provided by the rest of the staff and everyone was so nice. I left there feeling so satisfied, and cannot wait to go back and try some other dishes.

During a recent trip to NYC, my craving for Thai food led me to a truly memorable dining experience. I kicked off the meal with the Peek Gai Tod (fried wings). These wings were a simple yet incredibly flavorful start. They had a delightful crisp exterior, tender and juicy meat, and a subtle hint of lime. I really enjoyed eating them with the scallions. And the accompanying dipping sauce, with its perfect sweetness, elevated the dish even further! So good we asked if they sold the sauce so we could take some home. For my entrées, I opted for the Goong Karee (shrimp curry) and the Mee Pum Riang (Southern-style Pad Thai). The Goong Karee was generously portioned with a delicious mild curry flavor and ample sauce, perfect for enjoying with rice. It was thoroughly enjoyable. The Mee Pum Riang, a unique take on Pad Thai, arrived in a coconut curry cream with crunchy sprouts on the side, offering a good textural contrast. (Note: this version does not include peanuts) While I found it a tad sweet for my preference and would have appreciated a bit more heat, it was an excellent choice overall, and I'd happily order it again maybe with a special request to add a bit of spice. To complement my meal, I tried the Muang Bao, a server-recommended cocktail. This unique concoction featured mango, a sweet shrimp paste, and even a dried shrimp on a toothpick, which I was advised to sample with each sip for the full effect. It was an incredibly complex drink, a vibrant explosion of sour, sweet, salty, and spicy notes that truly tantalized my taste buds. Though it was on the pricier side, the experience of such a multi-layered flavor profile made it entirely worthwhile. The restaurant left a lasting impression. From the attentive service to the inviting decor and, of course, the exceptional food, every aspect contributed to a fantastic evening. Chalong in New York's Hell's Kitchen offers an enticing menu of Thai dishes that promises a flavorful dining experience. However, our recent visit left us with mixed feelings. We had made a reservation for 7:30 pm to dine in with a party of four on a Friday evening. Upon arrival, the host informed us that the table setup would take about 10 minutes. However, as time passed, we found ourselves waiting longer than expected. Despite checking in multiple times, we were repeatedly told to wait, and we weren't seated until about an hour after our reservation time. This wait was incredibly frustrating, especially after making a reservation in advance. To make amends for the delay, the host offered us a free appetizer, which was a kind gesture but didn't fully compensate for the time wasted. Once seated, we delved into the menu and ordered a variety of dishes, including the Lumpu Salad, Wok of Green, Tom Som Pla, Picanha Kra Praw, Moo Hong, and Khao Pad Mun Goong. The food, when it finally arrived, was outstanding. Each dish was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. However, it's worth noting that the spice level was notably higher than expected. As lovers of Szechuan cuisine, we have a high spice tolerance, but even for us, the dishes bordered on being too spicy, without any adjustments. Overall, while the food at Chalong was undeniably delicious, the frustrating wait time and overly spicy dishes detracted from the overall dining experience. If you're willing to endure a potential wait and enjoy bold, spicy flavors, Chalong may be worth a visit for its exceptional cuisine. However, be prepared for a wait and consider asking for milder spice levels if you prefer a less fiery dining experience. read more

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a local Thai restaurant, and I must say it was a delightful experience for my taste buds. The flavors and aromas of Thai cuisine never fail to impress, and this place was no exception. Appetizers: We started our meal with some classic Thai appetizers, including spring rolls and Tom Yum soup. The spring rolls were crispy and filled with a tasty combination of vegetables and shrimp. The Tom Yum soup was a burst of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors that set the tone for the rest of the meal. Main Courses: For the main course, we ordered Pad Thai and Green Curry. The Pad Thai was a delicious mix of stir-fried noodles, shrimp, tofu, and a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. The Green Curry was creamy and had just the right amount of heat, with tender chunks of chicken and an array of fresh vegetables. Dessert: To round off the meal, we indulged in a plate of mango sticky rice. The ripe mango was sweet and juicy, while the sticky rice had a lovely coconut flavor, creating a satisfying end to our Thai culinary journey. Ambiance: The restaurant's atmosphere was pleasant, with Thai-inspired decor and a warm, inviting vibe. The service was attentive, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu, making excellent recommendations. Overall, the Thai food at this restaurant was a delightful culinary adventure. While I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, I'm giving it four stars instead of five because, in some dishes, the spiciness level could be a bit overwhelming for those with a milder palate. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chalong over the weekend, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I walked through the door, the welcoming ambiance and stylish decor set the tone for an amazing meal. I decided to try the Mee Pum Riang, a traditional Southern Thai noodle dish that came highly recommended. And wow, it did not disappoint! The flavors were absolutely incredible - rich, aromatic, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. Every bite transported me to the vibrant streets of Thailand, offering an authentic culinary journey right here in New York City. What truly made the experience memorable, though, was the exceptional service. The staff was not only friendly but also extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Snooty and ridiculously self satisfied. Every crab dish is a mushy failure more reminiscent of an unsuccessful burrito than a Thai crab dish. Do not serve hot drinks. Seriously, you can't get boiling water in a restaurant. Really, trying asking for it, not just tea, boiling water is a "no no". And then... the shrimp tacos are yummy. The ridiculously tiny pieces of branzini are nicely brined and the dish comes together. They swing for the fences and occasionally connect. The best user's guide we could come up with is this: avoid the "mush" foods - anything with crab, the brick of sea bass mush wrapped in banana leaves and so ridiculously spicy as to be virtually tasteless. But if you stick to food that is in pieces you can identify, they do hit home runs and deserve 5 stars for trying. As to the complimentary chicken wings with lunch, they don't compliment anyone, don't make eye contact and walk away from them - they look and taste like sugar grease sticks. And yes... the price. Expect to pay over $100 for lunch for two and not be exactly full, before tip. read more

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chalong in Hell's Kitchen before , and it has quickly become my favorite Thai restaurant in NYC. This time, I walked in accidentally with my best designer friend who was hungry, and we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated despite the restaurant being very busy. Thankful for the owner. The ambiance was lively and inviting, and the drinks were nothing short of amazing. Their fabulous signature cocktails are a must-try named biryanni passion and espresso martini . The food was even more delicious than my last visit, surpassing my already high expectations, oysters and grilled hormok and sompla Our waiter, Jay, was incredibly friendly and attentive, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. Special shoutout to the bartender names Sea , for crafting such outstanding drinks for us Overall, Chalong offers an exceptional dining experience with its fantastic food, delightful drinks, and top-notch service. It truly is the best Thai restaurant in NYC, and I can't wait to return! read more

I visited Chalong yesterday amidst 92-degree weather. Walking in without a reservation, I found the atmosphere slightly warm as the AC struggled to keep up. Nevertheless, the staff were exceptionally friendly. I started with Cha Sod Som, hoping for a strong orange flavor akin to Thai tea, but found it disappointingly light. Next time, I'll opt for Thai tea instead. However, the steamed fish and pad see ew were outstanding--their flavors were spot on and left me wanting more. My adventure turned spicy with the Goong Karee when I bit into a raw onion, which added an unexpected kick to the shrimp curry. Despite this surprise, the curry itself was average in taste. One quirky detail: the Aesop in the bathroom looked more like an imitation, which gave me a chuckle. Overall, while some dishes fell short of expectations, the warmth of the staff and the excellence of the steamed fish and pad see ew make this place worth a visit. read more

One thing to note: the dishes do have a serious kick to them, so if you're sensitive to spice, definitely let your server know--they're happy to guide you. I ordered the brisket curry, and it was fantastic. The brisket was incredibly tender and fell apart effortlessly with each bite. The curry itself was rich, flavorful, and packed with depth, making it one of the standout dishes I've had in a while. After ordering delivery from this place for months, I finally visited this restaurant in person and had a great experience. Even on a busy Friday night, the service was excellent and our server was attentive throughout the meal. We ordered a combo menu for four and the food was flavorful, satisfying and generously portioned. While one appetizer only came three pieces for our group of four, everything else was enjoyable. The cocktails were bit mixed with a tasting stronger than expected but the food and service made up for it. Overall, we had a wonderful evening and would happily return. read more

LOVE THE FOOD, LOVE THIER VIBE! Went on a Saturday night, reservation is a must! But still many walk-ins were seated.(also me) The servers were attentive and helpful (we was seated at the bar) The cocktail list was very fun with lots of different flavor options. We tried Leonado and after school. Started with the Jor Pu which were excellent. (Will try baerng golae next time for sure!) love the fried garlic on top so much. Also got the crab curry which is sooooo good and spicy enough to get wet. Would recommend if you're in Manhattan ! read more

I was super excited about this place because last time I went to Thailand with my friend, we were in Phuket and foods was phenomenal (base on my personal) and this restaurant is serving you guys with southern Thai food Which is i LOVE!! What a gem! The service was top-notch, and the food was incredible. The thai shrimp tacos blew me away with its bold flavors--the crispy exterior paired perfectly with the sauce and meat. The seasonal salad, with its spicy kick and salmon, was a standout as well. You can't go wrong with the potato puff, and the ribs were so tender with a curry full of flavor. The best, unique and most filling style of Tom Yum soup, called Tom Som Pla! Perfect amount of tangy and spicy! They use the freshest ingredients and fish! The flavors are robust and make you wanna come back for more! This restaurant has a great vibe, impeccable service with friendly waiters and bartenders. I together with my friend went here yesterday.The decor was cozy, l love the mood and tone.We start with Jor Pu : fried crabmeat dumplings and Lumpu salad ( oysters salad ) Both were so fantastic.Then we ordered Crab Curry : jumbo lump crab meat in coconut curry topped with crispy soft shell crab.lt was delicious and The Khao Pad Goong : Jumbo shrimp fried rice.It was so yummy.Everyone should try.We definitely come back soon. read more
