I've been wanting to visit the chart house for years now, but never got around to it. So of course, when my little sister told me, she wanted to host her birthday here I was ecstatic. My family and I visited on a weekday and I was surprised at how packed it was for a random Wednesday. I was worried about parking, but was glad to see that they have a huge parking lot right in front of the restaurant. Our servers name was Isabella and I just wanna shout her out because she patiently dealt with the chaos of all of us, trying to figure out what to order. The drinks were so bad, I started with the fiery cucumber, that was an absolute no. Then I ordered a dirty which was no better (I really don't know how you mess up a dirty martini). Now for the sad part... the food. We ordered the lobster tail which was sooo chewy my partner could only get through half then threw the rest away. The filet mignon was so underwhelming, I ordered it medium but received it raw. I'm guessing that happens often which is why they ask you to cut it in front of them. They sent it back to the kitchen and it came back fine but the steak had no taste whatsoever. Like nothing. I asked for steak sauce and the waiter offered A1 . Absolutely not. We went to the Chart House with a group of 8 for a birthday milestone. I made the reservations 2 months in advance and was only able to get a reservation at 8:00 or 5:00, I made it for 8:00. We went on a beautiful Saturday night, and normally it should take us 45 minutes to get there, but there was so much traffic it took an hour and half! When you arrive, they have valet parking for $10 or a parking lot. We were lucky enough to get a parking spot. The place is beautiful, the views of NYC are breathtaking. We had a nice circular table. Our waiter tried to upsell everything! "Do you want shrimp? What about this appetizer? What about this drink? What about this side?" Unfortunately, a lot of people in our party fell for it which increased the bill and we had more than enough food. Another note, our waiter never brought us bread. We did not realize this until it was time for dessert, very disappointed by this. I had the fiery cucumber martini, I did not like it because the cucumber was muddled in it and it was thick. We ordered almost every appetizer (because the waiter pushed everything). The shrimp dishes were all good, but nothing amazing. I would not recommend the shrimp cocktail for the price and taste. The crab cake was tasty, but not worth the price for the size ($25 for one). We ordered two. My favorite was the kim chee calamari, it was lightly fried and not too spicy. For my entree I had the prime rib, the book on it, I ordered it medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. The flavor was just a little bland and the horseradish cream it came with wasn't spicy enough for my liking. The mashed potatoes that it came with were alright. For the sides, the asparagus did not look good at all. I would not recommend them. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate lava cake that has to be ordered in advance. It wasn't anything special. One person in our party had the trio of ice cream, which looked really good. My husband had the chocolate ripple mud pie, which was huge, but didn't care. He also can't have almonds, and there were almonds on it and it didn't list them on the menu. I had a cappuccino which was nothing special. I don't think we will be returning. I really liked the vinaigrette used Prime Rib - you know the meat is mediocre when you need to ask for sauce. That's all I'm gonna say..... Salmon & Shrimp - the salmon was fishy to be quite frank, but what saved this dish was the buttery rice under it which masked the taste of the salmon. Mini Lava Cake - Just a ball of sugar upon sugar. I think they should eliminate the fudge or whatever it is on the ice cream. I've been here several times, and it's a wonderful occasion place! I've enjoyed meals both inside and outside when the weather's nice. It has a beautiful view of the city. I've enjoyed meals here for my parents' 30-year vow renewal and my boyfriend's birthday, and the food was delicious! The servers were very attentive and kind. This place never fails. The staff is always amazing and attentive. Food is always great. This time I tried a few different drinks and was happy with each one. The pics tell it all! There was a wedding gathering happening, lots of bday celebrations and a baby shower in the private area upstairs. It's definitely my favorite go to for a celebration. The presentation of the food was really beautiful as well. The only thing I was not crazy about was their drinks. We ordered a Pomegranate mojito and mango mojito and they were both just too sweet. I love sweet drinks but it was too sweet and tasted more like juice than a cocktail. Hopefully it was just the bartender that night and not how they usually make the drinks. All of the many staff that we interacted with were super nice and attentive. We opted for the fire roasted thyme shrimp, as an appetizer and that was the best shrimp I've ever had! It was a great surprise. I went with my husband and we both opted for the NY strip stick with chimichurri butter. The chimichurri butter was kinda strong, but also would pass on it next time. The steak though was tender, cooked well, and super flavorful. My husband had made a reservation, so we got a lovely window seat with incredible views of the city and you can't beat those views of the skyline. At the end, I got a surprise oreo coffee cheesecake, and I love cheesecake and this one was has the perfect consistency and only a light coffee taste which wasn't overbearing, so would definitely recommend! Chart House used to be a nice go-to spot for me and my family. We've Been coming here for over 20 years since before it burned down and was rebuilt. We went here to celebrate a special occasion a week ago and the current state of CH makes me very sad. The food is not as good and the place is falling apart. Aside from its spectacular views, the rest of the ambience has changed. I ordered Crispy Skin Salmon, but when it came, the skin was nothing like it was described. The fish and the orzo were also tasteless and dry. The coconut crunchy shrimp is also a lot smaller. There were more crispy noodles than shrimp. It'll be a while before we go back. I know that Covid has greatly affected restaurants and that they have to find ways to maintain their profit margins. However, when you charge $40-50 for an entree, I expect quality and taste. We were able to enjoy drinks and bread for a short time. But the wait for the food almost ruined the whole experience. While the food here has the potential to be great, there left much to be desired. We waited a while for it, in a group of 16 people I might add, only for our steaks, lobsters and scallops to come out ice cold. It was disappointment, and that alone was enough to have me sad. Food and service was good, but a bit underwhelmed based off reviews; and the near impossibility to get reservation. But after my recent I'm chalking it up to this place always having two things going for it - views and parking onsite. I ordered the fish which was overly crusted with breadcrumbs, and added the 5oz lobster tails (prepared well). Ordered off the kids menu which may be a good portion for a child age 5 and under, but my 9 yr old needed more than four baby shrimp. The bottle of a Kendall almost triple the price.
