If I could give zero stars I would. I dropped my car off yesterday and was supposed to pick it up after I got off work. I was notified that it would not be done until late today. I had an appointment yesterday at 7:20 AM to have my tail light replaced and the seal on my drivers door. I thought it was bullshit that they didn't have the parts already there to replace everything. I go to pick my car up today and the seal is not put in correctly, there is a scratch on the drivers side of my car and there are two paint chips by my brand new light. They said they will pay for the repairs however this should have never happened in the first place. My car is a 2019 Honda Accord sport purchased this past May it doesn't even have 3,000 miles on it yet and it's fucked. Their technicians are a joke and after I get my car back I will not return. My 20 year son bought a car from Checkered Flag Outlet, next door and owned by Checkered Flag Honda on April 16, 2021 that they knew had issues. The car broke down on June 30, 2021. They sold my son a service contract that they knew would not be honored due to the issues with the car. Today my son's car that he is still making payments on and paying insurance on is sitting in our driveway still broke down because Checkered Flag will not return our calls and when we call we are being avoided They refuse to doing anything to repair his car. This is how they do business with a young man who worked hard to save his money to purchase a car from them. My son has not had his car for a full 3 months before it broke down. I bought my first brand new Honda Civic at this dealership when I was stationed in Norfolk and decided to give them by business again this time around. I had been stationed in Japan for the past three years and in the beginning of this month relocated to the Washington DC area. Since I'm back in the states I was shopping for various car dealerships and realized that because of COVID many car dealerships were market adjusting their cars by 3 grand and found out that checkered flag Honda was not. The only down side was that they did not have any vehicles in stock and I would have to wait for one to come in. I told them of my situation and that I could go by without having a car but I would need one by the end of this month. Tony Butts assured me with the concurrence of his manager that it would be easy and promised to have a CRV with my exact color presence and trim level by the end of the month and urged me to put a deposit down. I put the deposit down and that's where everything went downhill. I followed up every couple days to ensure my car was still scheduled to come in on time and every response was that there was no problem with it, until about two weeks ago where he called and said the car would be delayed until about mid January, BUT there was a different color (premium color charging me a couple hundred more) that was guaranteed to be here by the 28th of December at the very latest. I was hesitant but I agreed. As the date to the end of December was getting close I started following up again to ensure there were no problems and every response was everything's good to go. The 28th of December hit and vehicle did not show, but promised me it would be here before the 31st and they even ran my credit to start finalizing all the paperwork. 29th of December hit vehicle did not arrive. I start asking questions and tell them about the promise they made to me and come to find out THEY LIED THE ENTIRE TIME. The management never even ordered the CRV they promised me!! They apparently were still looking to get me a car so there wasn't even an ETA! Why entice me to take a deposit and waste my entire time when they never even had a car for me in the first place. I even put this deposit down at the BEGINNING of this month. I start work on Monday and endured so much stress because I'm about to start my new job without a car. Luckily I found a dealership in the area (OURISMAN Honda of Tyson's Corner) that not only wasn't market adjusting their prices but I got it for even lower than checkered flag was trying to charge me. Don't ever let this dealership take your deposit because that's them just trying to take your business and once they do they'll just keep giving you the run around like they did me this entire month. read more

I made an appointment to get it replaced and after two hours they forgot to tell me the buckle couldn't be replaced because the one that was ordered isn't the right one for my car. Checkered Flag was good to us for over 20 years then they hired technicians that had no clue as to how to repair cars. I took my Honda in because it wasn't starting everything I used my push start. They repaired the switch that was not the issue and I let them know that. Then the kept charging me to put it on diagnostics once again no problem but it still wouldn't startup correctly. So, they told me to put a trickle charge on it, which was ridiculous. Still having problems so I took it in for a third time and it seems they finally got it right. Thousands of dollars later. My thoughts are they kept charging me for services and diagnosis that I did not need what are they going to charge me for next. So, I bought another car not from Checkered Flag never again. I will take my loyalty to someone who will appreciate it. If I could give less than one star I would. I no longer recommend them or their services. I'd give 0 stars! Their service department is horrible!! I took our vehicle in 2 years ago for a recall, and they still don't have the part. I've requested a tire rotation with the past two oil changes and they didn't do it. I took it in yesterday for two recall fixes, state inspection, oil change and tire rotation. I told the service advisor all of that on the phone when I made the appt. When I dropped it off the night before, I put all of the requests on the envelope. They sent me a confirmation email with all 5 items to be done. The second day it was there, I received an email with maintenance things they always say needs done cause they get money from the people that done know any better. I had to approve or deny then and sign. I denied them all and they called and said the vehicle was ready. We went to pick it up, the service advisor said it passed inspection, even though there was still a 2023 inspection sticker on it. When he went to check with the technicians, they never did a state inspection. So my husband asked about the oil change, and he said it wasn't on the original ticket. My husband showed him the confirmation email. So after working all day, my husband had to sit at the dealership for over an hour and wait for the items to be done that should've been done while they had our vehicle for two days. I drove 40 minutes...and have wasted a lot of gas continuously.The worst part is that I work around 75 hours weekly due to the military and I shouldn't have to be going to the dealership constantly to renew my tags. its been around two-three months that I've had the car and i still don't have my real license plate. I was just told that my shipping address isn't acceptable after two-three months. Note, this review is just for their Service department since I don't remember what my sales experience was like over 10 years ago. With that said, I have a love and hate relationship with Hondas in general. I purchased my car from here brand new, like it was still on the truck and wrapped up type of new. Over the years, it's become clear that some of the parts Honda had used were not up to par with their usual long lasting quality type. Completely understand it, cutting cost left and right, but at the same time things had started to show wear within the first few years. Not to mention the amount of times my car had to be serviced for recalls. Don't get me wrong, I love that my car is still kicking after a decade. But this is all besides the point of this review. The service dept is always, ALWAYS, busy. So if you plan to just slide on in and head out to finish you're day, you will sorely be mistaken. If you plan to have your car serviced, you will be waiting a few hours at the very least. Even if you have an appointment for one small thing, expect to wait a bit. Why? Because that's just how it goes. I'm not quite sure how they prioritize the work for the cars here but for some reason, every time I have an appointment here and I said I would be waiting, they would still take at least 3 hours to complete a mere state inspection (free if you purchased your car here). Then comes the actual work that needs to be done to your car. So even more wait time. Best advice, opt for the early drop off and just pick it up before they close. That way you can go about on your day without sitting idle for hours. The service reps are phenomenal! Shannon and David always explains every little detail that has to be fixed. And they are real with you. If you can pass without fixing something right away, they will let you know. They don't try to hassle you with getting it all done right away unless its absolutely a safety issue. Side note: pay attention! Because sometimes the work isn't 100% up to par. They actually messed up my alignment a few years ago and had to keep coming back to correct it. It's never been fully corrected so my tires almost always shows cupping. Also, they missed a small defect on my car for years and suddenly they decided it was an issue that must be fixed right away. So make sure that when you leave, you have a look and hear the sounds of your car. Maybe that's me being a skeptic when it comes to mechanics, but I learned from experience to make sure you say something when you feel like they didn't correctly do their job. Also, they renovated their lounge area from several years ago. It's a much larger open space now, complete with a small children area and beverages at the back. Plus free wifi. read more

My son made an appointment for a recall we received in the mail for his Civic and an oil change. He gets to Checkered Flag a little bit before his 8:30am appointment. They tell him it'll take about three hours so he decides to wait. He finally got out of there a little before 1:30pm WITHOUT the recall being done because they didn't have the part. He waited FIVE hours and missed 3 hours of work for an oil change. Why no one felt the need to tell him upfront the part wasn't there is beyond me. read more

I went in for a cranking issue repair. Then after a few hours the service writer claimed that it needed a starter AND that they also found that the timing belt was about to break. I said how do u know? She replied " cause the mechanic can hear it." I said that me and other reputable mechanics heard absolutely no abnormal noise. I said, "how do u know that it's not coming from somewhere else?" She replied, " well the mechanic took the timing cover off and seen it hanging off, half ripped and about to snap at anytime." So I approved the starter replacement and immediately declined the ""timing belt repair"... due to me being highly suspicious, being that the timing belt was replaced by a reputable shop only 9,000 miles ago. I then took it back to the shop that replaced the belt 9,000 miles ago and told them that Checkered flag claimed that the timing belt needed to be changed immediately cause they CLAIMED that they HEARD and SEEN that the timing belt was bout to snap. The shop then did the repair and they showed me the old timing belt as it was getting removed...and to my surprise::: the timing belt was fully INTACT, on the gears correctly, and NOT in danger of snapping like Checkered flag service had CLAIMED. It was obvious as the 4 mechanics in the shop of the original timing belt repair was shocked and amused as it was obvious that Checkered Flag Honda made a FALSE CLAIM in order to boost their sales revenues. I have been going to that Checkered Flag for years, however, this is the very first time that they tried to scam me into a absolutely unnecessary repair. It is obvious that they thought that they had my trust after all of these years, and they felt like I would PANIC and act off of fear and approve of their "" scam repair."" I was definitely disappointed to see this...as it was obvious that a timing belt repair is HIGHLY profitable for them....to the point that they would LIE and claim that they heard and seen it torn and about to snap. My advice...watch them, and if it sounds too suspicious, or if the repair doesn't make sense.... Then make SURE that u get a SECOND opinion elsewhere at a reputable shop....as they have proven that they are capable and very WILLING to lie in order to boost sales. read more

This review is on 12/19/2018. This service department is the worst one that I have ever been to. I kinda regret that I purchased a vehicle here eventhough their sale team is much better in dealing with customers I made an appointment to have 3 accessories installed on my vehicle at 11 am and I actually came early at 0730 am to drop my vehicle off. As I drove in the service area, it took about 15 minutes for a service consultant to acknowledged that I was there. Finally, Bethany checked me in and got me going. She told me that she would get in contact with me regarding the status of my vehicle and she never. I called her 4 times and on the 5th I was able to get connected to another customer consultant to get a status of my vehicle. After that, I was told that car would done at 5 30 pm but it never got done on time. They had 9 hours to install 3 accessories and they couldn't get it done(running board, door sill, and body molding). They even had the nerve to ask me to leave my vehicle behind which I thought that was b.s. So I took an uber to the dealership talk face to face with Bethany and the excuse for those 9 hrs was that "is not a simple job". Bethany was trying to come up with other excuses why they couldn't get it in 9 hours. She was being pissy with attitudes and that is not the way to treat you customer; especially the one that bought a vehicle here. On the another note, she even implied that they don't care nor want my business here and I am welcomed to take it to another place. I just moved to the area and I have been experiencing issues with starting my 12 Civic. My husband just left for deployment and my car has died 8 times this week. I called this dealer the second they opened and they told me they were unable to get me in until after July 4th. After I briefly explained I am new to the area, with no family, friends, and my husband overseas, that I was in a pickle. I was then told by the kind lady on the phone that she could fit me in at 10:45. She did forewarn me that I may be waiting a bit, but if I came there's plenty of incentives to occupy me. I arrived and was greeted immediately in the service garage. David took care of me. He is extremely knowledgeable, kind, and clear about the issues my Honda was experiencing. The service area comfort zone for waiting guests is comfortable, bright, and welcoming. There is free water bottles, coffee, and tea available in the back coming from the service pit. As well as restrooms for men and women in the same area. There is a tv and an area for children to keep the peace when they decide to get loud. I will be returning to Checkered Honda in the future for any concerns and repairs. I also will probably consult Checkered Honda when it comes time to trade my car in for a new model. It's hard for me to believe that I am the first to give the service department at Checkered Flag Honda a five-star review. I bought my 2010 Honda Civic from their dealership, and the quality of service I have received here in the five years I have owned it has always been nothing short of outstanding. In the fifty years I have been driving, their service department is the best I have ever dealt with, bar none. They go above and beyond any level of service I have ever received elsewhere. Every time I come here for whatever type of service I need, a complimentary car wash is provided upon request. A Multi-Point Inspection is always provided which informs me of any additional services that are recommended in the future, with no pressure whatsoever from their service consultants. On several occasions since I bought my Honda Civic here, my tire pressure guage light has come on. Although putting air in my tires is a simple job I can do myself, I prefer to have my tires looked at immediately by a professional. I simply drive it in, without an appointment, and they adjust my tire pressures immediately free of charge. On two occasions, they found a nail in my tire and repaired it for me at a very low cost. Waiting times for more involved service work have always been very reasonable. During the times I have waited in their lounge, their service consultants have always kept me posted on the progress of their work in a very timely manner. In closing, I want to give my highest commendations to Terry Ruffin, my service consultant who did such an outstanding job during my most recent visit and several other visits before. read more

If you like waiting over 90 minutes to have your oil changed, with a SCHEDULED appointment, or being lied to about having transmission oil and power steering fluid "looking" really bad and "needing to be changed" when you changed them less than 12 months prior at another Honda dealer, and your car is under 40,000 miles, go to Checkered Flag Honda. (by the way, i looked at the fluids afterwards, without having Checkered Flag Honda screw me with another change, and they "looked" brand new). Thank God I document everything I have done to my car, so not to let these smooth talkers take advantage of me. Either find another Honda dealer, or just go elsewhere. I sat down to make a deal with him after he presented me with their offer. He was not accepting to my offer. He called the manager over. The manager told me that the other option that they have to meet my payment needs was to extend the payments out to 7 years. That was never an option to me. On 12 June, I had an appointment to visit another dealer. But, before I visited that dealer, I contacted Darryl one last time and asked for a 600-900 dollar discount from the asking price. He stated that, they cannot negotiate the price on the car or something to that affect. I went to purchase the same brand new car for 2k cheaper than what Checkard Honda was not willing to negotiate. After calling around to ask for pricing on repairs needed for my 2005 Civic I took a chance and called Checkered Flag. The chance was worth it. I was able to get the best price from them. I was also able to schedule an appointment. The day of my appointment I was able to have them work on the air bag recall. The courtesy vehicle drove me to the mall and I passed time there while they worked on my car. I received a phone call when the work on my car was done and they picked me up. Unfortunately due to poor planning the part I needed to fix my car was not ordered. We ordered the part and schedule an appointment for another day. We also arranged for me to have a loaner vehicle. This worked well for me as I would need to keep my kids entertained while they worked on my car. The following visit one item was fixed. However, there was something else that needed to be ordered. They allowed me to keep the loaner while they waited on the part. That was Saturday. Due to my schedule and their late day being on Wednesday, we arranged that I would return the loaner on Wednesday. I received a call on Monday that said my car was ready but that it was okay for me to return the loaner and pick up my car on Wednesday. When I arrived on Wednesday I did not get any fees that weren't previously discussed. Everything was handled in a professional manner. I was impressed with the professionalism of Nikki who handled the phone call to arrange the appointment. I was also impressed with Shannon Coburn who worked with me as we were getting my Civic fixed. Be cautious with this place. I didn't buy a car off the lot but I did order one from the factory. Waited 3 months with no information on why it was late. Turned out it arrived 1 month after so 4 months total. Ok not bad BUT I went to go sign for my car and noticed they ordered the wrong car for me. On top of this they were not making anymore since it was already November so I was SOL. (2022 accord touring). They offered me 2000 off the next year model. Kind of pissed me off because I'm only worth 2000$ to them. Never in my life have I seen someone order the wrong car and give so little to the customer. Went right over to priority Honda and found one that day. Amazing huh? That dealership has so much more to offer and they make you feel more confident on buying a car. Plus they have a movie theater there for when your car is going through maintenance if you wanted to wait. Overall experience was horrible with checkered flag Honda. I wouldn't even buy a car off the lot there. They were respectful to say the least but this is not a deli. I'm paying 45000$ and you screwed the pooch. After reading the review left by Donald B. I decided to make my own. This same thing literally just happened to my sister. She brought her Honda CRV in last week to get the fuel pump warranty recall taken care of. She called me yesterday at lunch because her car died and I had to go pick her up. We were able to get the car towed back to the house and I've been trying to speak to someone at the dealership about it, as soon as I mentioned it had been in for the fuel pump recall and would not start, I was put on hold and no one ever came back on the line. Seriously pissed off!! What kind of work are they doing over there?!! I'm afraid to send her back to the dealership now that they've shown their true colors! August 20th, 2019 my husband and I purchased a 2018 Honda Odyssey from Checkered Flag Honda located at 6541 E. Virginia Beach Blvd Norfolk Va. 23502. We paid cash for the vehicle and traded in a 2018 Subaru Outback that was in pristine condition. According to the Car Fax that was given to us by Checkered Flag the 2018 Odyssey was listed in their dealer inventory and offered for sale July 2, 2019. The car was listed for sale and had been on the lot for well over a month. We thought we were buying from a reputable dealer and assumed there would be no legal issues when purchasing this vehicle. October 10,2019, we called because we were already on our second set of 30-day tags and had not heard anything from Checkered Flag to tell us our plates were ready. Checkered Flag offered us a third set of plates, stated they were just waiting on a signature from the previous owner, our paperwork still had not been submitted to DMV two months later, this was perfectly legal, and we "shouldn't" have any problems. I called my insurance to verify legalities, per USAA it is a gray area as to whether the vehicle would be covered by insurance because by law the vehicle is to be registered in our names with in thirty days of purchase. I called the DMV Dealership Board October 11, 2019. It was then that I was informed that there was a hold on the title because there was a LIEN on the vehicle. The gentleman that previously owned the vehicle per Checkered Flag bought the vehicle in Arizona and illegally tagged it in Virginia. Checkered Flag gave us the option of indefinite 30 day tags until they could resolve the situation, the previous contract would be void but we would loose out on our Subaru because it was already sold, or we could purchase a brand new van for an additional $4,000 (this was the one and only vehicle that they had that was comparable to what we had previously purchased). Checkered Flag is a no haggle establishment. Compensation falls under negotiation and as per their Team Leaders there would be absolutely no compensation. They were "helping me out "by taking back the 2018 Odyssey, the van I bought, paid for in cash, but could not obtain a title to or legally own, and could possibly be driving around illegally. Not to mention, if no one was paying on the loan it could have been repossessed from me although I had bought and paid for the vehicle in full. We felt our hands were tied and we begrudgingly purchased a new vehicle with NO compensation at all. Taking back a vehicle in which Checkered Flag was unable to produce a title for was a "favor, they were "helping me out." Not even an apology. Checkered Flag said this was not that uncommon. They sell vehicles all the time without having the titles. I am aware there is a little loop hole or grey area for dealerships to do so. This must change so this does not happen to anyone else. This dealership takes advantage of the loophole and should loose their license to do business. This is unacceptable. read more

This would be my first time visiting checkered flag Honda and it was great! I came here to sell a car and the process was quick and easy, I could imagine buying one here too would be just about as quick and easy. Not only was the inside a bit nicer than most dealerships but the entire staff was friendly. As soon as I walked in and spoke with someone I was offered a beverage including fresh coffee. The wait area which I waited for an Uber (the shuttle service was backed up and they paid) was clean and even had a charging station for a numerous amount and varieties of phones. Leon was awesome! The lot was nice, staff was friendly enough, and the 2016 Nissan Rogue I purchased was as advertised. They even found better financing than what I had brought to them pre-approved. When the extras guy took over from the sales guy with his tablet, things went south. I was offered a pre-paid maintenance plan that would cover 5 years of scheduled maintenance or until 121,600 miles. I asked clearly "Can I use this anywhere or do I have to take my vehicle to Checkered Flag? I don't live in Virginia Beach it would be inconvenient to take it there every 5,000 miles." The extras guy told me to my face that I could take it to any service shop, such as Firestone, Computune, etc. and the service contract would be honored. I asked again if he was sure, he assured me that was the case. I checked the box on his tablet, added $800 to my purchase price and lo and behold! The service coupons arrive with "This coupon will only be honored by the specific dealer stated above". That was Hall Honda, of course. So the guy either either did not know the product he was pushing or maybe he was confusing it the extended warranty (which is a separate agreement altogether). I hope that was the case and he was not outright lying to me. Now I have to go out of my way to drive 20 miles to use this contract when I have 5 garages within 4 miles of my house I could use. Also, the coupons are only for oil change, tire rotations, and inspections -- they are not covering the regular interval maintenance with includes changing brake fluid at 80,000 miles or the spark plugs at 105,000 miles. It also doesn't cover the cabin air filters which are every 15K miles on the schedule. That can fall into the gray area of miscommunication but the directly asked "Do I have to take it to Checkered Flag?" "No Sir, you can take it anywhere and the coupons will be valid" which was asked and answered twice is unacceptable. Other than that it was a good experience and we got a great SUV. read more

I have been this location couple times, and so far Mr Ruffin, a service advisor, impressed me the most. Today I went there as a walk-in for oil change. He helped me with the bended fender, no matter if's it worked out or not, I'll say, not much of a talker but a solid doer, (make me think of Japanese, well personal opinion), I don't usually write reviews that much, with that being said, good luck Mr Ruffin, thank you! read more

What a nightmare CHECKERD FLAG HONDA did my step daughter so dirty and wouldn't make it right. She was down and made a deal on Saturday on her very first car she had ever bought. My husband said, "is there anything at all else that we need?" Nope, just when did she want to pick it up, today at 10am was scheduled. As usual we were running a little late so Charley calls to let them know. They sold the car on Sunday!!! Weren't even going to call us. They wouldn't make it right, they didn't care. What a dirty shady place. As far as we are concerned clearly the entire Checkered Flag chain is shady. Stay away! read more

I would not recommend this dealership. We would've purchased a car here, had the salesman not been rude to my husband and pushy with financing only through the dealership. We will now be making our purchase elsewhere. read more
