I love Cheddars but this had to be the worst visit all because of service. I went there for a special occasion and my party and I were told we had to wait an hour for the table. Ordinarily, we would have left on that note. But it was a late Saturday night so we stayed. Our names were finally called and we were seated. We thought we wouldn't have to wait any longer but we were wrong. Although cane to our table to take our deink and appetizers order quickly we didn't get them quickly. Then we notice others tables around us of folks who were there before has the same problem or hadn't gotten there entrees. After flagging down two other waiters we got our drinks. We had to get the manager before we got our appetizers. After complaining to the manager, we got a new waitress. She was great managing her section and us. Our old waitress must have had a bad conversation with the manager because she returned to our table to apologize for the poor service and she looked like she has been crying. We didn't mean for that to happen. We just wanted service. Good thing the food was amazing. You can't go wrong with a plate of the famous croissants with honey butter. I can make a meal of just that. I can't believe I haven't written a review about this restaurant sooner. The food here is mad nasty. Service is bad and I would rather eat at Jack in the Box than eat here. The only thing that this place has going for them is those tasty buttery croissants. But that's it. I've been to a few Cheddar's locations but this one; I've visited the most. The last time I came here was only because one of my girlfriends wanted me to take her here-after she had had did me a favor and I wish I would have talked her into going someplace else to eat! My tilapia wasn't very memorable and our waiter was a bit off. There was also another time I was here when I- and the people I was with- just got up and left our table, because our server decided not to give us our food when everybody else near our table received their food. He gave us a sorry excuse about the "kitchen being backed up". C'mon, dude. Apparently it isn't that backed up, considering your other tables that were sat AFTER us have already received there meals. I've little that's good I can say About dining at Cheddar's Cafe. The cuisine that they serve Features all of the verve Of a listless, half-hearted...(belay that thought! I'm determined to keep my reviews PG!) I'd read all the Yelp reviews of this place before dining here last night and knew beforehand that being served a meal here wouldn't harden my resolve to come again. Still, I persuaded myself to give Cheddar's a shot because of a recent reviewer's remark: "Cheddar's...The better cheaper Chili's." This appealed to me because I have children whose immature palates crave chicken nuggets, cheese pizza, club sandwiches from Subway that sport just meat and no condiments, Pei Wei fare and the three-star mediocrity of Chili's. Trying out Cheddar's represented a cheap opportunity to expand the short list of restaurants they like. Cheddar's blew it. I'll start with the positives that keep this review out of one-star territory. The main dining room features a large paddle fan that rotates on a horizontal axis that my son and his friend thought was really cool. We were immediately seated at a table next to a large aquarium filled with tropical fish that the boys thought was even cooler. Our waitress, Bianca, was pleasant, attentive and deserved her tip. My draft Fat Tire ($3.50) was refreshing. The boys received free refills of their soft drinks. We were served 10 minutes after ordering and we walked out the door about a half hour after we arrived. They really were cheaper than Chili's. In this case, we got what we paid for. My son ordered the kid's junior burger with fries ($3.99). The menu claimed it contained a plump quarter pound of beef. It was hardly that. Even my son complained about how small his burger was. His friend, thinking he'd be in meat and potatoes heaven, ordered the half rack of hickory smoked ribs with sides of mashed potatoes and fries ($9.99). Most of it remained on his plate when we finished the meal. I opted for the half rack of honey molasses ribs with sides of red beans and rice and buttered corn (also $9.99). The beans couldn't stand up to what Popeye's dishes out. The corn tasted fresh out of the can. The rib meat pulled away from the bone cleanly, but was chewy. The sauce tasted as if it had been spewed over the rack as an unenthusiastic afterthought. I wish I could write that there was a happy ending here somewhere, but there wasn't. I shook my head in resignation as I sampled one of the lifeless, undercooked, flaccid fries my son had left on his plate. The kitchen obviously had not risen to the occasion. You know, I went to Cheddars today for lunch with my co-workers and it wasn't that great. I sat at the bar, and the food took FOREVER. Honestly, it took so long. There was a gentleman that was there ahead of us, but never got his food. After he saw us with ours, he raised all hell, and stormed out of the restaurant. But, here's where it got interesting. We were sitting right in front of the tap for the draft beers. A barkeep came up with a large plastic containter, and put it under the taps. He then pulled an unmarked black tap and proceeded to fill up the container with beer. I assumed he was draining the line for whatever reason, and I asked what kind of beer that was since it didn't have the name on it like the rest. He said it was natural light (aka natty light, aka rock gut). I said oh. I noticed a powder at the bottom of the container and said if you're cleaning the line, you sure are wasting a lot of beer. He said he wasnt cleaning the line, and that the beer was for them to do their beer battered chicken strips in. Instead of doing this in the kitchen, another helper proceeded to bring out raw chicken strips, to the bar. The guy then starts dipping raw chicken into the beer, splashing it everywhere.. On glasses, the bar top, floor etc. They dipped the strips in Natty light, at the bar, in front of everyone while eating. And, they fling this salmonella infested beer all over the glasses and clean surfaces of the bar. Definitely not a good time.. read more

Okay, I know what you're thinking -- 4 stars?! At a Cheddar's?!?!?!! Yes, it's true that Cheddar's isn't known for the best service or the highest quality food. But what can I say? I've had some pretty awesome experiences at this location, so I decided to write about it. I love Cheddar's. It's a chain, yes. The wait usually sucks, yes. The service sucks most of the time, yes. But after being here more than a few times, I think it deserves my four stars. I've maybe had amazing service (amazing for a Cheddar's Casual Cafe, at least) maybe 1/5 times. The other times were never terrible, they just weren't ever really great. It's safe to say that I've had better experiences at this location than several others that I've been to though. So where are all these other stars coming from? Because the food. is. delicious. And the drinks are so cheap and yummy. Of course, it's not always consistent, but I guess when I'm not paying so much to dine out and have that restaurant feel -- I can't complain too much either. $5 for a huge margarita? $5 for a huge stack of onion rings? $13 for steak, tenders, and two sides? One of My favorite restaurants, one of the best of all the locations, I will drive across town and over the border to receive and be in the company of great people, service, and atmosphere. This Cheddar's give me all three, the servers are very attentive, and if you have to wait during your meal order placement and being served, most of the time it is due to someone in your party, drink order from the bar. I love their conception of friendliness and politeness, the croissants are to die for, the food is very delicious, and you must give the potato soup a try. I'm always up for a date or meeting, as long as we meet at this Cheddar's. read more

Yes, I understand it was Saturday afternoon. Yes, I understand the weather was AWESOME so of course people were out for dinner/drinks. But hellz to tha NO I do NOT understand the calamity that was going on while we were there. 1st...why in creation's name are there like 6 - 8 people at the hostess desk & only 2 seem to be actual hostesses? ..others are just hovering around up front or commenting on their tables. While waiting, we see 2 large groups leave & we're like ok...they'll get tables reset & start seating shortly...nope! Again, just goofing off, no one checking status of tables, smaller tables are leaving, but no one is seated. It wasn't until my friend & I start asking why no one was being seated at tables that'd been empty & cleaned for close to 15 minutes did some sort of action take place. We were finaly seated in the bar area which was fine. The one star belongs to our waitress & her alone. She was nice, seemed to be new or maybe it was her 1st weekend shift as she seemed a little flustered at one point. She did her best to keep up w/ her tables. She noted the kitchen was extremely behind which is why our apps took almost 30 mins. to arrive. We were there for over 2hrs which made no sense at all. What can I say? If it wasn't for me and my buddy being courteous gentlemen with a tip of the hat (Think old monopoly mustache man) we could have had a free meal and just walked out. Being the health nut that I am, I go BONKERS whenever I see a health conscious type of menu and cheddars has exactly that, plus a good ambiance. The catfish is cooked very well and tender. Some people say the cajun seasoning on there, the chef probably went ape**** overboard on it but I like it just the way it is. My friend had the pot roast and I tried it, man...Best pot roast dish I've ever had so far. Would definitely recommend it. Now, onto the service......I gave 3 stars because the service we recieved today was horrible. Normally, its somewhat ok but I felt like I was throwing money at them and they didn't even want it. When we were seated, no silverware set, no water... When we got the food, no silverware set nor napkins. Waiter didn't pay attention to us. Waited forever just to pay. And when finally paid, waiter brought us our checks with no pen to sign on both of our tabs. I never realized what a bargain Cheddar's was until my most recent visit. The menu items are standard American comfort food with tex-mex and Italian and cajun thrown in the mix for good measure. Food is unexciting and always hit or miss. HONEY - BETTER CROISSANTS ARE DA BOMB DIGGITY! My partner ordered chicken and waffles and the waffle was disastrously dry and chicken strips barely surpassed "okay" status. I ordered the cajun chicken pasta where the shrimp was overcooked, the mystery meat that populated the plate was unsettling and the penne way overcooked. Firstly, I ordered the honey butter crossaints. It melts in your mouth and it was like heaven~. Then I ordered Grilled Chicken Alfredo. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either (I've had better) but still worth eating! My friend ordered Grilled Tilapia with Mango Chunks (?) Called hours ahead of time and asked about reservations and party specifics. The host told me they only do walk ins and not to worry. We have been waiting for nearly an hour and they will NOT seat you unless your entire party is here. We only were missing one person and they still refused to seat us. Our last member arrived 30 mins ago. The only reason we have not left is because our party members have drove from different parts of Houston! This is beyond ridiculous, I brought it to the managers attention and he blew it off as if it didn't matter to him. I'n not quite sure why the reviews are soo low for this place. Cheddar's seemed to be the perfect idea for an Easter dinner. Normally this place is usually very busy but tonight seemed a bit slower than usual. The hostesses seemed pretty out of it, almost a bit rude. However, upon being seated the whole experience changed. The waitress (Madison) was extremely friendly. Throughout the night she would even make a couple funny remarks. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but I think the prices are pretty good. I ordered a 11oz steak with a baked potato and broccoli casserole for $14. The food came out at a reasonable time for five people. All I can say is the that steak was delicious. Normally I get steaks at outback or salt grass but for this place I make an exception. I have never tried a steak from any of the more expensive steakhouses so I can't make a huge comparison. However, in my opinion the steaks here are cooked better than the ones at outback or salt grass. The steak was soo tender and tasted great. I asked for A1 but in the end really didn't need it. I've been to this location several times and for the most part, nothing exemplary has happened, in terms of, customer service or food quality. This is a solid performer in food quality and service level. For instance, today my order didn't come out to my exact specifications but it was fixed fairly quickly and they brought it out in a jif. The food prices are perfect but, unfortunately that means that condiments are rationed quite tightly. For instance, my friend got about one tablespoon of cheese for his salad. The server advised him that another "helping" would be extra. Really? Latest Experience--late September 09. The waitress looked like a crack-w*ore and was rude and seemed distant when you talked to her. This review is a bit limited since I can't enjoy most of the food items that Cheddar's is known for, like their honey-buttered croissants. I ordered the Grilled Chicken Pecan Salad just because I was craving honey pecans. The salad was mediocre at best. Chicken was dry, the cheese seemed like it was Kraft cheese, and it lacked flavor. But this is coming from a salad snob. I will say, however, that the service was excellent. Our waiter was really entertaining and super attentive. I have seen Cheddar's all over for years, but never ventured into one. Finally, my husband suggested we stop in one night for dinner, so we did. We have since been there twice in two weeks (I know....) YUM, what more can I say? Both times we've gone, the service is EXCELLENT. They are quick to refill drinks and stop by your table to see if you need anything. The Texas Cheese Fries. OMG! If there is heaven on a plate, then this is it. A heap of fries, covered with cheese, bacon and a side of ranch dressing. WHOA. It's a party in your mouth, trust me on this. You gotta try 'em. Both times I've had the Crispy Chicken Salad, which is basically greens with fried chicken on top. While this may be a staple at many restaurants, Cheddar's really knows how to do it. They give you a HEAP of chicken...almost more chicken than salad but hey, I'm not complaining! Plus, they serve it with one of those gooey buttery croissants. MMmmmmmmmm I've not yet been able to finish the salad, but it is delightful, I will tell you that. Prices are cheaper than Applebees, Fridays or Chili's...so there's no reason to NOT go here! A group of friends and I recently went to Cheddar's for an early lunch, and by early, I mean: we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. They don't accept reservations, so walking in with a group of 15 at opening was our only option. We were greeted by three girls and two guys at the host stand who claimed they "didn't have the room" for 15 and refused to put any tables together for us. They also would not seat the 10 of us that were already there because we were still missing 5 from our party. Okay, whatever. We were forced to sit in two separate tables of 8 and 7 which was super embarrassing for our guests. We were cramped and hardly had enough elbow room, which was highly inconsiderate considering that there were several empty tables which remained empty throughout the course of her meal all around us. Our server was highly disorganized and could hardly answer any of the questions about the food. Our food took forever to come out and the service was over all slow. There was old broccoli crusted that the dishwasher must have missed on my fork when I took it out of its napkin which was highly disappointing and quite frankly quite disgusting. We spoke to the manager about some of our mishaps and he was not very understanding. He simply dismissed whatever we had to say. We were not impressed with any of the food we ordered as it was not very appealing. Some dishes came out cold and mealy. When we left, none of the five hosts thanked us nor did they offer any parting remarks. They were too busy carrying on amongst themselves. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Went last night to dine in at this Cheddar's for a small birthday dinner. We were a party of 6. We got seated after about 20min. Everyone in the group arrived separately but we were seated after about 20min which was nice because I know most restaurants won't seat you until at least half or the entire party is present. We got seated and the server (who didn't even give us his name) greeted us and asked us for our drink order. I remember he wore pins on his uniform, had curly hair and wore glasses. He brought out our drinks and we ordered a couple of appetizers while we waited for the rest of the group to arrive. Once the rest of the group arrived is when things took a turn for the worse. The waiter immediately became dismissive and rude. He asked the rest of the group their drink order except he did not ask the birthday girl what her drink was. Took him forever to come back and check on us. Finally when she ordered a raspberry lemonade, the waiter brought her the wrong drink. When she told him he just said "okay," didn't apologize or anything. Then a waitress came and dropped off the correct drink but dropped it quickly on the table and walked away rudely. She had long hair in a ponytail. We sat there for over an hour and the young waiter never came by to check on us or anything. Drinks were empty and appetizers were finished and still nothing. However, he had tables right across from us and never acknowledged we were still there. We finally had to stop another waiter because we waited an hour to place our food orders. Then we asked for a manager to tell him that we wanted to request another waiter because we had been there for over an hour and the waiter never checked on us. Mind you, when the waiter would come by to check on the tables across from us, he made eye contact with some of the people in our party but kept going about his business and leaving us just sitting there. When the new requested waiter came by we noticed it was the waitress who rudely dropped off the birthday girl's raspberry lemonade so we knew the horrible service was going to continue. We finally got our food after being there for TWO HOURS! The food was okay, not great. I think after waiting for two hours, our appetites went out the window. They messed up the birthday girl's order once again. She ordered the Shrimp Alfredo and they gave her Chicken Alfredo. Then once we ate we quickly asked for our tickets. The waitress messed up our checks and they had to be printed 3 times just to get it right. We paid and left right away. What a horrible experience. I honestly think if that's how those waiters and waitresses act toward customers then they should go get a job outside of the food industry because they obviously cannot work in customer service. We will never go back to this Cheddar's location ever again! I wish I could give this place 0 stars! This entire dining experience took 3 HOURS long! From sitting down to actually paying and leaving! I like Cheddars. The croissants alone are worth the trip, and I also really appreciate the very large and very inexpensive margaritas and mixed drinks (about $5 each). The decor was similar to the others, but the staff here sucks. Several guests around us had problems with rude, inattentive waiters, and even after speaking with a manager (quite a young man to be a manager), their problems didn't get resolved. We had to wait long periods of time between each service. The waiter took our drink order, then disappeared for a while. He finally returned for our food order. It didn't take that long to get our food, but our waiter didn't check on us until we had finished our meal, and we were even looking for him because he never brought our croissants. After the meal was over, he finally brought the croissants. I asked for a box and he brought it back, but no check. Then about 5 minutes after that he returned with the check. He seemed very distracted. We paid and left without so much as a thank you or goodbye from our waiter. The hostess did say thanks for visiting as we left. The experience was just ok. The parking lot was really huge. And I appreciate that they are open late (midnight on weekends, 11 on Sundays) most evenings. read more

This place is just average. Cheddar's has huge portions and decent food at low prices. I've been here a number of times and haven't been disappointed with the food. Things you must get is the honey buttered croissants and the side dish broccoli cheese casserole. I also like the appetizer onion rings, which can probably feed five people easily. This is one of the very few places that makes the onion rings the I like. It has something to do with the batter and crispiness of the onion rings. Other places usually have the mushy type batter. I can also say the same for the chicken tenders. The only down side to this Cheddar's, particularly in this location, is that it's always crowded during dinner time, but when you have cheap food with huge portions, I guess that can be expected. read more

I was really nervous that night, my palms were secretly sweating, and all I remembered was their croissants were extremely tasty! Always a fan of Cheddars, and this location is no exception. Came here a few days ago for a birthday dinner, and the food was plentiful and cheap. For our table, we got the butter croissants, onion rings, and queso. Croissants, as always were buttery, delicious, and lighter than air. The queso was chock full of ground beef. Nothing fancy, but tasty nonetheless. The onion rings, however - man the sheer quantity is pretty crazy. For $4, you get an entire mountain of onion rings. The onion rings could have had more flavor, but you sure do get a lot of them! For my entree, I got the full rack of ribs along with broccoli cheese casserole. The ribs had great flavor, though some of the hickory ones were rather dry. I don't regret the choice of ribs, but I think next time I'm sticking with my usual choice of burgers/sandwiches here. read more

Just had the worst lunch experience here. I'm not sure why the food was taking so long but the service was even worst. I watched two parties leave a tip and walk out the door, due to waiting so long for service. My server brought out meals for my grands and didn't bring out my salad with that. I had to ask her to bring my salad before my meal. The kids finished their entire meal and I still has not received my salmon dinner. Upon receiving my plate it was a lunch portion and I asked for a dinner portion. She put in another order ......waited another 20 minutes for her to tell me the manager is coming to speak with me. She, the manager, says there was a printer issue it's coming right out. I said just bring my check I don't even want to eat anymore. Won't be returning to this location. read more

Very disappointed. Went to Cheddars located on Westchase on Saturday, Oct 16th and ordered the Cornmeal Catfish but the fish was not completely golden brown. The end/tip of the catfish was discolored. I'd took this meal back twice and Catfish looked the same. I'd lost my appetite and decided not to order anything from their menu. Foods okay, you get what you pay for I guess. Last time I called in for a to-go order but apparently whoever took it never put it in so I had to wait an additional 25 minutes after arriving for my food. That's fine I wasn't in a rush anyway. I've tried most of the stuff on their menu and its usually decent if not good but my last experience wasn't so good. I had the Key West chicken & shrimp. Chicken was hard, but warm. Shrimp was bland and needed to be cleaned! Both overcooked. Chicken was just salty and shrimp had no flavor. I love their butter croissants and broccoli cheese casserole though. Service is good. I don't expect much since it is a "casual" restaurant. Overall, a decent place to eat decent American food if you're nearby and are on a budget. It's a hit or miss for me so just hope you come on a good day. read more

I wanted to like this place. It seemed really nice when I walked in, and our waitress was super sweet. The menu had a lot of great selections, and the prices were great. But I ordered fried shrimp, and not a single shrimp had been cleaned at all. I know this isn't a fine dining restaurant, but I don't think that's asking for much. Unfortunately it ruined my appetite, and I was in a hurry, so I left unsatisfied. read more
