I am new to the area and have been missing my favorite Sushi place back home. This place looks small but let me tell you don't let the looks fool you!!! Tonight we ordered 2 different rolls and the Steak and Chicken teriyaki for delivery. The plate was still hot when we received our food. Went here the last Friday morning and I had no clue on what to expect. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted very friendly by an employee, Thida. She was very friendly at explaining how the menu works and the specials. She helped me decide on what rolls to decide and which ones were the most popular. I ended up getting 2 specialty rolls; the honey walnut and the red dragon, as well as 2 regular rolls; spider roll and Kings roll. 4 rolls at the price of 32$ after tax, and they were pretty damn good. While I was waiting for the rolls to be made, my eyes got hungry and ended up buying shrimp tempura. It was very delicious and flavorful! I wanted more but I knew what I ordered was too much. Brendan was another employee who was very friendly and chatted up with me while I was waiting for my food. I would definitely come back here again. If you liked the Hibachi places in the mall, this is the place to be. The teriyaki chicken meal was juicy yet slightly crispy with a lot of sauce. Ive been wanting to try this place for a while and now I wish I never had. Ordered the chicken and steak combo. Was charged for a bag when I told her we were eating there. The cook was obviously sick because he kept loudly and grossly coughing and hawking up his spit and mucus. So disgusting to listen to. The rice was ok but cold. The chicken was flavorless and cold. And the "steak" was very questionable and made my stomach turn just looking at it. We ate our egg rolls and two bites of the entree. The rest went in the trash. Very disappointing read more

My goto place when I want to get a lot of sushi for takeaway. This is not that fancy place you go for a date or official dinner, but if you need a lot of sushi and have a place to eat them, go there, you won't be disappointed. I won't write everything they've got on the menu; it is up to you what do you want most. My secret option - they let you customize your sushi plate if you order at least eight types of sushi, so I usually go there and order my custom plate of sushi rolls. Price is great for 8 rolls (6-8 pieces each) I pay around 60$. And you get 2 pounds of sushi (enough for 3-4 people to get full with sushi only)! That is a great deal, IMHO. Wait time (after you order) is between 20-40 minutes depends on the line; most of the time, it was below 30 minutes for me. The only downside of this place I can think of - it is not fancy, and they won't allow dogs (even if you just come there to order they will look at you as you're public enemy #1, only service dog badge and promise that you leave the place while you wait for you order will convince them. read more

I've eaten here several times and every time the food and service have been great. They cook your meals fresh so it takes a couple of minutes and it gets busy at certain times of the day so be patient, its worth the wait. They serve a variety of sushi and bento box meals along with teriyaki over rice type of plates. There's always a special going on so check it out. read more

Quite an interesting place. I don't really know what to call this. Is it a sushi place? Japanese restaurant? Or a fast food joint? A little bit of everything I suppose! The few times that I've been here have had its ups and downs but I will try to give it a "regional" review based more on its location and what to expect from this area. First and foremost, this is Hayward...to set the bar up high would just be ridiculous. The location in itself is a hit or miss based on the time. Parking can be a bit crowded during peak hours but it's not that bad during other times. This little place is hard to miss as you can easily spot it just by the side of the road as soon as you get off the freeway. From what I could tell, they seem to have ongoing promos and discounts so you may want to take advantage of that rather than ordering through Eat24/GrubHub. Now onto the food. One of the most popular food here seems to be the lion king roll. I don't consider myself an expert when it comes to sushi but I've had my share of the sushi places within the Bay Area and I can honestly say that this is the least amount of salmon I've ever seen baked on a roll. To top it off, the inside part is very little. Now I'm not saying that it's terrible, despite the lack thereof ingredients; it's not that bad for Hayward quality sushi. One of the rolls that I actually liked was the Baja California roll. I've had a few places around that offer similar variations, but I've liked this one so far based on the price as well. Surprisingly, it's not so much the sushi but the yakisoba and the other meat items that is the most redeeming items of this place. In regards to service, I once had a mix up from my online order a few days back. After I pointed this out, the lady was apologetic and even gave me complimentary egg rolls. I have a problem when it comes to sushi: I love it, but it's so expensive to get enough to satisfy even my tiny appetite. When I lived elsewhere, I used to go to Asian buffet restaurants that had sushi bars to have as much salmon nigiri as I want, but I haven't found such a place since I moved to Hayward. This, though? I can work with this. The sushi is no less delicious than a more expensive sit-down restaurant, such that I've never seen the point to looking for another sushi place in the area. This is our go-to when we want sushi. I love their veggie dragon roll, they do lion king better than some nicer restaurants I've been to, and the standard cali roll or philly roll are perfect. Not to mention, they also have teppanyaki for my husband, who doesn't like sushi. Tasty & good value. I got the steak bento with sashimi. It was a good sized portion and the price is great, though they had a few cooking issues. ***Inaccurate pricing on the Yelp app, pay in-store!*** The side salad had a nice light peanut-y dressing. Shrimp tempura had good flavor, especially with the dip, and stayed crispy for the trip home, but I'm a little too old to stomach the mouthful of oil that comes with it (ten years ago I would have been all over that). The main dish reminded me of my early attempts at pilaf--palatable, but I would have been disappointed if it were my cooking. The rice was on the mushy side (gooey sauce didn't help) and the mushrooms were verging on rubbery (gotta sear those suckers!). I would give it 3 stars based on those items, BUT, the sashimi was fantastic and I plan to come back for their sushi. The wasabi was amazing (NOT horseradishy at all!) and somehow the packet of soy sauce had more flavor than usual. It made me crave more sushi all evening. The presentation was a little different from the posted photo on Yelp. The box was styrofoam instead of the nice (recyclable!) plastic in the photo, which made it feel cheaper and the compartments weren't as effective. There weren't sesame seeds on the beef. My bf and I shared the honey walnut shrimp roll and dragon roll and although we got the deal, I would not have paid extra for the "honey walnut shrimp" roll LOL. After my girlfriend and I went to iFly for some indoor skydiving, we got a bit hungry. Now we didn't want to go back to Cha Cha sushi in San Jose, so we decided to find a sushi place that was cheap and had great ratings. Looking through yelp, I finally found this place, Chef Teriyaki. This place had great ratings coming from Elite Yelpers and some regular Yelpers. The pictures of the sushi platters they had on the Yelp website were looking absolutely delicious. I mean, my girlfriend and I are sushi connoisseurs. We've been to many sushi places such as, our favorite place to go, Cha Cha Sushi in San Jose, Kenzos, Sushi Boat, Sanraku, Mizu Sushi and some other places I cannot remember. Anyway back to talking about this place, we came in here not knowing what to order. So we talked to Jeva the cashier that was working at the time and WOW! Her customer service is freaking amazing. She's the type of person to cheer you up if you're having a bad day. She recommended the most popular rolls which is the Lion King roll, the Chef Teriyaki roll, and the Las Vegas roll. I'm glad we followed her advice and got these three rolls. We got two Lion King rolls, two Chef Teriyaki Rolls, and one Las Vegas roll. Guys, let me tell you, this place has the best cheapest sushi rolls you can find. It's Safeway priced sushi but 5x better. They could open up their own place that serves only sushi. They do serve other types of food such as Panda Express type of food. Overall experience, My girlfriend and I would drive the 40 minutes here again just for the fantastic customer service and the super cheap sushi. This place is for Japanese fast food.. they have good/decent fancy sushi.. like loin king roll and caterpillar rolls at almost half of the cost you would find at fancy sit down sushi restaurants. My favorite is their bento boxes- the typical chicken/beef/shrimp teriyaki with mixed veggies and rice or fried rice for a good price! This is the place to go when I'm craving for some quick rice plates with some sushi! They have daily/weekly specials so you get an even better deal. If I lived close to them I'd be there all the time but it's close to Momma's so only once in a while can I take advantage of this place. I wouldn't recommend the japanese food here. It is my first time for a fast food japanese joint and probably my last for the quality. I orderd the lion queen roll for 12.95 and beyond dissatisfied with the quality and quantity. The price I paid is for like a super small roll that looks mushed together dripping in teriyaki sauce. The bento box is also a joke. The food was hot or cold and no taste except the overwhelming sweet sauce. Go somewhere else for a couple more dollars and better satisfaction. read more
