Consistently good burgers! Definitely a solid go to. Their onion rings are much better than the fries. Their fries are not crispy and lack flavor in my opinion. I want to highlight Vincent, who was bussing tables today. It was very obvious how much pride he takes in his job. He was wiping the tables down and he meticulously wiped the condiment jars down as well. Impressive. His concern for the job was very evident. Yeah, this place is worth the hype. I went while on a work trip based on a recommendation from the person leading my conference. I ordered the hatch burger and made it a double and added grilled onions + an odouls. I was surprised they had NA beer and was super pleased even though it was nearly $6 for a bottle. The ordering process is as clunky as others say -- one person taking the order and writing codes on old-timey order paper while another person runs the register for payment. It is absolutely inefficient, especially if you have modifications. The onion rings were spectacular and reminded me of going to a rinky-dinky sports stadium as a child. The atmosphere is dark but great for watching sports games. The staff is great at changing the channels for the avid sports watcher when relevant games are on. Overall, the bun is also a selling point, the beef is decent, and the hatch chilies take the burger to the next level. The ladies at the counter were nice and friendly. However, one was writing the order down and the other was putting it in the register. That seemed a little inefficient. No harm, no foul. This was our first time at Chester's after seeing it from the highway for a few years. We were driving by and said why not! Walked in and there was a lot going on! Lots of folks, lots of wall decorations, and some great smells! We didn't know what to do once inside until someone said you order over there lol! When we got to the register the staff was very sweet and explained the entire menu to us! We ordered our food, got drinks and sat down. It's def an older place but it was cool. After a few minutes we got the chili that we ordered, and dang it was burning hot (temperature) but delicious! Lots of flavor, cheese and onions! Our burgers arrived, they were both pretty big and looked great! we also oredered some fries and onion rings! We both thought the burgers were both cooked very well with plenty of toppings, the fries were a bit soft but the onion rings were great! Burger bar. Kids love their burgers and they really enjoyed their Chester's Bacon Cheeseburgers leaving nothing but the crumbs. At 8pm the location off-Nacodoches was pretty empty. No lines, and plenty of tables. I bet it's different on a Spurs or Cowboys (we'll see you next year) game day. I ordered a chilli dog all the way, a green chile cheeseburger, and some fries... plenty of food. It was good. They were all made to order, so it took more time than fast food to get out. I may want to try a milkshake next time. If you wanted to hang out with friends, this might be a good spot. If you like watching sports, they got plenty of big screens. I ordered the Burger salad and it was cooked to order. The salad was fresh with lots of veggies. You have to listen for your name as they will announce the orders pretty fast. Also there are no stations to refill your drinks, you have to ask one of the employees behind the counter. Overall, the food was good and I would return. I will say this was my first time here. I was greatly confused when we walked in. They had tables and then the serving counter. A chained area for you to file through for your order. I will say old fashion which I thought was not bad but did not look very clean. A lot of help wanted signs (stating $14 an hour) all over which made me wonder were they just that good they needed more help or just that bad that they could not keep employees. Anyway we filed through the corral which was unequally spaced, it had tight areas and very spread areas. I did not want to touch the chain or poles for they looked like they hadn't been cleaned in a bit. I ordered 3 cheeseburgers, 1 fry, and 2 strawberry shakes. Let me start with the fries, very greasy, and not cooked, there was no seasoning what's so ever. It tasted horrible. I was wondering if they ever changed the oil in their frier. Secondly, the burger also very greasy. If I had a rough night of drinking this may be something I would want. The bread tasted past it's time, the topping were alright but the burger hit my stomach like a bowling ball. I say more about this later. Lastly, the milk shake, I ordered strawberry, but this was vanilla with two strawberries in it. I will say this place was pretty packed. I was surprised at all the people. They had about 10 people working behind the counter well I will say standing when five were doing all the work. I watched one on their phone, two standing around, one watching the tables, and one waiting for the slip from the cashier. Very unproductive especially when tables had trash all over them. Side note, I did not see one trash can or a place to get rid of your tray. I assume they except waitress service which I did not see occur while I was there. Now back to the burger. The worse night of my life. I will not get graphic but as I stated the burger felt like a bowling ball in my stomach. It hurt so bad from the moment I left that I wish I could had just thrown up. It sat and gave me terrible gas. At midnight I finally passed it through but I will say it was rough. My family is still suffering and we did not even finish them. My review is this place is not a go to unless you are in for a challenge. I hope the owner or manager reads this review and makes some changes. The french fries are perfectly cooked crispiness. The onion rings are a tasty side option. I enjoy the signature poppy seeded hamburger buns. if you are looking for a healthy meal options- they have plentiful portions of garden. grilled chicken and hamburger salads. The atmosphere is very laid back. There is always sports such as football, basketball or soccer on the TVs. It usually gets very busy. I wish there was a Chester's Hamburgers in Austin. Chester's what has happened? I mean seriously you were a great burger - a solid and highly recommend. Not anymore. I've been eating at Chester's since 1989. I used to love this place. We ate here (281 location) for the first time since pre-COVID. It was horrible. First literally 6 onion rings for over $4.00!!?? What a rip off. That's almost .70 an onion ring. If they were amazing I might have thought a bit differently - but they were cold and just not good. Horrible in fact. Then the fries - we returned our first order because they were cold and rubbery. No crispiness at all. The second batch was not any better. Hard pass on fries and onion rings. So I got a double cheeseburger - no Mayo but everything else. Wow - it was just bland. Burger King is about the same quality. I would not recommend Chester's to anyone any more. Do you yourself a favor and go to 5 guys or Whataburger. Be warned ... This place gets packed so you may be here a while ... The ambience and the interior decorating is totally awesome. Service was good but they take your order, then call your name, so there really is no true service, but the folks I dealt with were friendly. They also clear your table when you're done. Why minus 2 Stars ?? The sweet tea wasn't very sweet and it tasted old and watered down, so - 1 Star. They call your name over an intercom, but between the crowd noise and the music, you can't hear your name being called. They need to turn up the volume or go to pagers, so - 1 Star. As for the food, the burger was decent, nothing special. The burger is definitely NOT the best burger in town or the state. The fries looked delicious but were very bland and slightly cold. If you're looking for a simple, solid hamburger you won't go wrong if you give Chester's a try. I'm a bit of a burger fiend so I'm always seeking out new burgers to try, and on the recommendation of a friend who loved Chester's as a kid I stopped in to give them a try. when you enter you wait in a queue to order at the cash register. The menu isn't super expansive (again, as I mentioned you're getting an old-fashioned simple, style burger). Once you order you'll be provided a number for your order which you'll wait to be called so you can go pick it up from the front. The whole place felt a little "fast-food" for me. On my trip I ordered a double bacon cheeseburger with fries and an order of Buffalo wings. I didn't have to wait long for the items to be ready. Everything was good. The wings were crispy (which i always like) and everything was tasty. I gotta say, the cheeseburger was INCREDIBLY greasy. I felt like i needed a shower after eating it. I honestly enjoyed the wings more than I did the burger. All in all, if you give them a shot you won't leave hungry or disappointed but I personally didn't have my mind blown or feel like I had the best burger in town, as Chester's boasts. read more

I love a good burger! I loved my burger at Chester's!! We walked in and gave our order at the counter. We were greeted very kindly and treated with respect. Everyone working there seemed to be good with being there!! The vibe was wonderful, the place was clean!!! The bathrooms were very clean .... thank you Chester's!! Mediocre at best. The burger itself is reminiscent of 80's style hamburgers. However I spent $16 just me, all I got was a burger, fries and a fountain drink. Here's the problem: 1) the price doesn't match the venue or the burger. 2) the fact that they hide the fountain station behind the register is offensive and a hassle. The same guy who took your money handles your drink while you're eating . No bueno. 3) the fries are regular cut potatoes but they're greasy and smell like freezer.(I didn't finish them--a box of baking soda could fix that) 4) when you ask for ketchup and mustard the employees are quick to say "it's on the table" but they're not. Only ketchup is found on some tables, they keep the rest behind the counter. (That needs to change) 5) it's NOT "the best nothing". A place that makes you feel like you're a regular customer in your hometown even if you're just passing through. It has the ambiance of friendliness even though there is a bustling highway across the frontage road. The staff is super friendly and patient, the menu is simple and the restaurant setup is easy to understand where to sit, order and pickup when your name is called on the overhead. Plenty of seating, it does get packed after 5 pm and lunch hours for good reason the burgers are delicious! I sadly, would say in my honest opinion the "jalapeño poppers" were a let down. It was a sliced cold jalapeño with pimento cheese. To each their own but we are used to fried with a mozzarella or at least a warm popper. The burgers are huge and delicious but you have to order things separately. We loved the onion rings. The food is piping hot, the place is clean and the staff is friendly. It's a great place to take the family or for a date night. It feels like a small town diner and for a minute one forgets they are in the middle of a massive city!
