The restaurant boasts local, casual bar vibes but the food is definitely elevated and totally unique. We love the clams in butter sauce, and uni pasta amongst other meat, noodle, and shareable dishes. Their cocktail and beer menu are extensive and they have some really creative shot concoctions as well! There is both indoor and outdoor seating, so even when it's crowded, you can have a conversation with your party without too much difficulty. There's a parking lot out front that requires payment, but I believe the restaurant provides full validation as well. I love coming here! It's casual enough to make for a perfect happy hour spot, and I really appreciate that they have outdoor seating since it can get a little noisy inside at times. The wait staff are always so kind and friendly and make you feel genuinely welcome every visit. All of the food here is delicious, but happy hour is definitely my favorite time to come. Our go-to happy hour items are the rock shrimp and the agedashi tofu -- both are absolutely to die for! The negitoro don is also always a crowd favorite whenever we visit. Ended up doing take out from here instead of ordering in. I We were really in and out as we didn't have much time, so I didn't really take in the decor or ambiance of the place. We ordered on our way in, and our food was ready by the time we got there. We ordered the sizzling pork katsu omurice. I love omurice. It's great, however, our food was one big disappointment. I didn't quite register it at first, but when we opened our takeout box to enjoy the meal, something seemed off. Whatever, no matter, maybe something feels off but it's still delicious. Nope. We took our first bites to see how the dish tasted and it was pretty bland. Then it dawned on us. They forgot the sizzling pork katsu part of the omurice. At that point it was all very comical. I liked my Hello Kitty cocktail because it tasted fruity and the cranberry juice paired well. Our drinks came quick, but we waited about 10-15 minutes for one of our food items to come. We ended up at this restaurant for one reason and one reason only: it was one of the few places still open late at night. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the only thing it had going for it. From the moment we walked in, the experience was terrible. The restaurant was overwhelmingly loud, with a nearby table screaming and carrying on to the point that it felt more like a nightclub than a dining establishment. When we politely asked to be moved, despite nearly half the restaurant being empty, our waiter acted as though we had asked him to rebuild the dining room from scratch. Then came the menu. I have eaten all over the world, from street food stalls to Michelin-starred restaurants, and this may be one of the most confused menus I have ever encountered. Nothing seemed cohesive, nothing made sense, and when we asked for guidance, we were told it was "Asian fusion." If this was Asian fusion, then neither Asia nor fusion were informed. Following the waiter's recommendations, we ordered several dishes, including what was described as their best-selling uni pasta. When it arrived, I immediately noticed the obvious problem: there was essentially no uni in it. Not "a small amount." Not "subtle." Virtually none. Let's be honest here. Uni is expensive. Customers know that. Restaurants know that. Charging premium prices for a dish centered around uni while serving little to none of it feels misleading at best and dishonest at worst. When I tried to address the issue, things somehow got worse. The first staff member we spoke with immediately informed us that they "don't do exchanges" before even asking what was wrong with the dish. That response alone tells you everything you need to know about how this restaurant views customer service. Eventually, our waiter arrived, and instead of showing any concern whatsoever, he became defensive. He repeatedly insisted there was uni in the dish because he had personally supervised its preparation. At no point did he ask what was wrong. At no point did he attempt to understand the complaint. At no point did anyone seem remotely interested in whether we were enjoying our meal. The irony is that the missing uni wasn't even the biggest problem. The bigger problem was the attitude. Mistakes happen in restaurants every day. Good restaurants fix them. Bad restaurants argue with customers about them. I ordered a replacement pasta with shrimp and mussels simply because I wanted a dish where I could physically verify the main ingredients existed. The seafood was there, but somehow the kitchen still managed to produce a pasta dish almost completely devoid of flavor. By the end of the evening, our dissatisfaction could not have been more obvious. Yet nobody checked on us. Nobody asked what went wrong. Nobody cared. This place seems to have confused being expensive with being good. The food was mediocre, the service was dismissive, the menu was a mess, and the hospitality was nonexistent. There are countless restaurants in Hawaii competing for visitors' attention and money. This one does not deserve either. I will never return, and I would strongly recommend spending your time and money literally anywhere else. read more

No notes, this was amazing. Meaty and cheesy, perfectly satisfied my umami and cheesy craving. * Filet Katsu Curry: My friend got this, it looked very good and he said he really likes it so I assume it is a solid item as well. I didn't get the chance to try it. * Pasta Salmon with Cream Sauce: 8/10 I got this because I wanted to give their pastas another shot after not really liking their uni pasta... this was good. Personally wouldn't get it again though. I feel like they could cut down on the volume of noodles and possibly increase the amount of cream/sauce and even the salmon. As our meal progressed, it felt like it was getting less and less creamy as there weren't enough sauce to cling onto the remaining noodles I feel like I would definitely recommend this spot for happy hour, I heard their drink deals are good too (on top of their food HH). I had an interesting experience a Chez Kenzo and was initially conflicted about whether or not to write a review. I was encouraged to write a review so here we are. My wife had heard from friends about Chez Kenzo and without looking up this establishment in advance, we went. For reference, we are coming all the way from Ho'opili, so it's quite a drive, especially considering we were planning to arrive as close to 5pm as possible. Parking Chez Kenzo customers receive free parking. Please refer to the image of their signage for instructions. Initial Impressions It's a rather local, down-to-earth type of bar & grill. You'll find all types of locals here. Upon arriving, I attempted to "check-in" for the wait list and that's when I was thrown off by one of the waitresses. At first, she started off by saying that there were no seats. Which was fine, but I was shocked when she didn't take my name down. It was difficult to proceed and unclear what needed to be done. It wasn't until I came back in to inquire, did they state they would write me in, but then didn't proceed to get my name to notate. She pointed to a man, who I assume was the owner, and said he took mental note. Initially, it did spark a little frustration and elevated blood pressure, which made me a little aggressive, but I let it go. I went back out to wait since my spouse really want to give this place a try. Normally I would have left. We were seated sooner either because of the conversation prior or because we stayed close to the front. Food The food was good. It was affordable and great. I enjoyed their yaki negitoro don. Late night eats in Honolulu, Hawaii... After a movie, we searched our Yelp apps for a place that was still open at this late hour. Chez Kenzo is a place that I had been to - many years ago. I tried going recently, but didn't have a reservation - and the place was packed, so I didn't get a chance to go. I was hoping that this time, we'd get in... It's quite the popular bar, known for its ono grinds! Metered street parking was free because we arrived way after 6:30pm. Inside, there were a few tables open, so we were lucky to get one! Went as a party of 3 on a Sunday night at 8pm. The place was busy but we were able to be seated right away. They have larger sized tables to fit larger parties of 6+. Although if you're intending on having a dinner with lots of conversation, I wouldn't recommend this place because the music they play is very loud. We found ourselves shouting at each other and barely hearing each other still. It's more of a bar scene but with restaurant food. The service was great with water refills but we had to flag someone down for everything else... like for the check, for take out boxes, for napkins, etc. although, the staff was very friendly! The food itself was good. Everything seemed pretty unique and the flavor was definitely there. I'd say it's food that I'd come back to eat again sometime! Next time I do visit, I think doing pupu style for the whole table would be the better way to go versus everyone ordering their own plate. Always recommend to get reservation before going there. The food was good as usual. We double ordered all of the happy hour dishes and also ordered some regular menu food. Firstly, staff gave my guy and I a dirty look when we came in, which made us decide to just order our food to go right away. Love the usual happy hour at Chez but I recently went around 8 pm and while most of the food (steak, chicken nanban, mentaiko pasta, cheesy gyoza) was good, the kimchi pork was kind of bland and there was a porky smell to the entire dish. Also knocking down a star for the service. It took a while for the server to get our order and even longer for the food to come out. When the server finally came around with 3-4 dishes they also brought us someone else's card & check. When we told him he gave us someone else's card he took it back and said "all good" instead of apologizing lol the service was definitely off this day.
