I've never been to the physical location but I've attended several events that they've catered and their food is always perfect.

This place is love. The mercado is a gem in downtown LA (I'm not sure if this is considered south park?) by LA Trade Tech. I've come here twice now and have loved (almost) everything - the food is so delicious and different from anything I've ever eaten. Pass on the kibi and kodzito (dry!); go for the cochinita or pollo pibil! You will wait quite a while for your food on any given day but I'm not docking stars for that since its home cooked food and they can get very busy. Plus, it makes eating their food that much more enjoyable. read more

Delicious, as are most things in this authentic little Mercado. A bit pricier than neighboring eateries, but the food is so good. I had the cochinita pibil tacos which were so tasty and authentic, just like I had in Mexico-- pickled purple onions and all. Nom! When my girl friend and I drove to Chichen Itza on a Sunday night, I thought she was going to kill me. The place is in a sketchy part of town, and when we pulled up to the place, it looked deserted. She was all to happy to suggest that we drive elsewhere Somehow, I convinced her to step out of her BMW and we found ourselves in a food court setting. I ordered the conchita pibil, and it was delicious and beautifully plated. The portions are generous. My girl friend ordered the fish, and that was even better. She couldn't stop raving about the place. The food is as good or even better than some of the best restaurants in LA. As an extra bonus, the place is ran by a small, cute family. read more

Found this place on Yelp, and I eat here almost once a week now. While it isn't your typical mexican food, it's so good that when I have a craving for mexican, it's now a craving for their Conchinita Pibil. The service is great, and the mercado is a cool place to go with friends for lunch or dinner. Great food! Fish tacos with their spicy habanero sauce is simply amazing! Been there almost 10 times in the last month and service/quality has been the same... simply great! The food does take a little longer then the average taco, but this certainly is not an average taco. This place is great! We had a dinner meeting here and everyone loved the food. We got the cochinita pibil and pollo asado along with horchata drinks and the ceviche de pescado appetizer. Everyone was very satisfied and had a great dinner. I personally like getting the pollo asado because it comes with plantains. Sometimes it can get a bit crowded depending on when you come. Got the Pollo Asado. The chicken wasn't anything special. But then again when is chicken every anything special, right? This place gets 5 stars because of what is one the plate. They give you rice, black beans, cabbage, 4 slices of fried plantains, and 3 warm corn tortillas. First thing that popped into my mind was: tacos. Put a little bit of each ingredient in the tortilla along with the pretty spicy (7/10) habanero sauce and boom, best taco in the world. The fired plantain just put it over the top. I hate yelp. Why? Because of Yelp, this place is packed. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles. I was never a fish guy, but this place has the best fish I've ever eaten in my life. The tacos de pescado are absolutely delicious, and the ingredients are market fresh. Their other fish dish is non fried/baked, and is also a must try. I'm also not big on pork, but again, they have delicious pork sandwiches marinated perfectly. I always get an extra large serving of their fruit salad to finish my meal with. I love the fresh, clean twist on Mexican food from this place...it's like an exotic Poquito Mas. I don't think you can go wrong ordering here, but I love the soup with lime and conchinita pibil. Absolutely love this place! Whenever I'm in the area I make sure to go there. I have family from Yucatan and remember trips every summer during childhood. The food here takes me back to those days. I've not had the chance to try the complete menu yet but I love, love the Salbutes. A lightly fried fluffy handmade tortilla with turkey topped with avocado, tomato, and purple onions. Absolutely delicious. I also enjoy the fruit salad with jicama. Writing this review is making me hungry! Not a fancy place by any means, just a Ma & Pop type place in an indoor shopping area. This is BY FAR the best mexican food I have had and I have had my fare share of Mexican food in my lifetime. I had the pleasure of trying the food at a wedding that I attended yesterday and the food was catered from here. What I cannot stop thinking about is the Cochinita Pibil. Holy shit this pork is the best pork in the world. With every bite, the pork literally melted in my mouth. I can't get over how succulent and tender that pork was. You MUST try this pork- you will not be disappointed! I also had their the fish and rice and black beans. When I am in la, my husband and I will definitely be going to the restaurant! What can I say about the experience I just had?? Wow! This place is definitely low profile, hidden away in an off-street near USC. Wasn't hard to find but the sign didn't stand out at all. The food was authentic Mexican, and I can honestly say that after taking my Salvador raised mother-in-law who knows a thing or two about this type of cuisine. She was impressed and told me to save the address. This doesn't happen often, let me just say... I ordered the tacos de chicharron and they were the best I ever had! I told my husband to take a bite and he was like "this is bomb!" You need to try the tacos de chicharron and the appetizer with the tortilla filled with black beans. I forgot what it was called but it was delicious. This place is easily 5 stars and I'm impressed. read more

My family and I eat there at least twice a month for breakfast on Sundays. We love going to La Paloma but Chichen Itza is my spot. I always order panuchos and the pollo asado plate. I decided to write this review because I think we are going here for my nieces 17th birthday today, or at least that's what she wants to do. I was introduced to this place by my fiancé and his family. We go here often when the family can get together, and it is worth the drive through LA traffic. I am no expert on authentic Yucatecan food, ( I've tried this place, La Flor De Yucatan and just family friends of my fiancés family) but my my future inlaws were born in Yacatan and they all approve!! I usually order the cochinita pabil tacos or torta, the torta comes with a really good potato salad. I haven't had anything here I didn't like. On top of my usuals, I recommend the panuchos, salbutes, kibis, the potato salad can be ordered alone also, the blended black beans can either come with certain orders or can be ordered alone and they are great, I recommend getting a fresh piece of there bread to dip in the beans. For dessert, the flan is really good! All the house drinks I have had are great, the Jamaica and horchata are good, I haven't had the guananaba or the agua de Chaya but my father in law likes both. You can usually see the owner/chef around, and interestingly enough his first name is Gilberto, which is both my father in law and fiancés names and his last name is Cetina, which was my late mother in laws late name, he is very friendy and will usually come by and ask how our meal is going. Sometimes the people at the cash register aren't all that friendly, but maybe I have just caught them on off days or the size of our orders (we usually go as a whole family with between 8 and 12 people) might have them a little more focused and stern than usual, but we are always brought whatever we need to the table quickly. They also have breakfast and taco options as well as fresh fruit drink options. I drank the tasty guanabAna which is a tropical fruit. Location is in a co-op market by USC. Highly recommend. Not sure what happened to my review! It seems to have disappeared. But here I go again: I LOVE THIS PLACE. They treat us like family. Gilberto Cetina Jr. is an amazing chef/owner w/ his Dad and grandma's recipes. I keep bringing my design students here because I want them to taste some of the best Mexican fare in LA. It's my job to open their minds by exposing them to the best of the past, present and future. Chitzen Itza is all of that. The Cochininta Pibil is juicy, fragrant and succulent w/ umami-- as the Pollo Asado is moist and tender. Authentic, friendly and worth coming back endlessly. My wife and I drove 40 miles or more (corona, ca)! Because we wanted to try CHICHEN ITZA RESTAURANT!!! We saw it on food network. Ate here a second time in a week since the food is so good. Had the Tuesday special ribs the first time. They are pork spareribs but not barbecue. They aren't smoky, but they are tender and toothsome with a bit of hamminess and salt that was amazing and different. I lived in Texas for ten years and love my barbecue but these deserve a place as well. Today I had pork pipl and was great. I also had the ceviche tostados, and it was simply the best ceviche I've ever had and a huge portion. I decided to stop by on a day trip to LA. While yelping restaurants I came across Chichen Itza restaurant and being from Yucatan myself I was excited to eat some home food. Upon arrival the atmosphere was great and the food looked amazing. We ordered 2 panuchos, a torta de cochinita pibil, the kibis and 2 drinks. (Kinda pricy)) I'm sad to say the food was tasteless. Not at all what Yucatan food is suppose to be. Non of the food was hot and we had to ask one of the very friendly waitresses to please put our torta in the microwave since the meet was cold. I did get a new one but will not be returning. read more

Decided to try this place but not worth it don't know how they have a good rating. The platanos were good but the crema tasted like they added water to it. The torta cochinita was not worth the 10 dollars all it was was bread and meat and some onion thing. Honestly I could have dealt with the price but then I asked for ketchup and mayo to at least put something on the dry torta and they didn't have it. My parents got the egg plate and there was no flavor to it. Would not recommend or come back honestly have gotten better cheaper food at hole in the wall Mexican places in south central than this expensive over priced flavorless food. read more
