Always my go to spot for chicken Mexican style. Other spots are a little inconsistent with how their chicken tastes but this place is always the same. What does piss me off is one day the super burrito will be super hero big but the next day it'll be sidekick hero big (disappointing). That's why this spot doesn't receive any more stars. This review is for the length of time I've had to wait for my order going through the drive-thru window. It seems that there are a lot of employees who work at this chicken express and yet when you get to the window, they're making you wait forever with no sense of URGENCY while they're preparing other orders behind your order while you wait for someone to even acknowledge you and collect payment for your order. I mean HELLO, can you hurry up and pass me my order instead of having me wait while you're preparing other people's order (first come, first serve). I have other things to do besides sit in a drive-thru window waiting for you to move faster. The sign says open at 10:30 a.m, but be prepared to wait another half an hour for you to even get your order. This is the slowest place ever and I've given it many chances always slow slow slow. I mean at least open the window and acknowledge why it's taking you so long to cut a piece of chicken or something? Unacceptable, they see you looking at them and when they finally open the window, NO apology for the long wait or nothing. I only go here because my family likes the chicken. I will be making my complaint to the health and food administration to shut this place down for SLOW drive-thru service. read more

Few things turned me off: - On a number of occasions, saw employees going in and out of bathroom wearing their aprons. Would hate to think of them leaning on my food or the food preparation counters with aprons splashed with bathroom & toilet water. - One of the employees closed the drive-thru window wearing gloves. Immediately went to making my burrito without changing gloves. How many times did an employee touch the window after transacting money with drive thru customers? Now he goes to make my burrito after touching the window without changing gloves. This happened at least 3 times. Threw burritos away so we would not risk anything. - Looking in from the drive thru window, saw employees holding the dirty trays then immediately go to preparing food. - Saw an employee adjusting her glasses with her gloves on, then making food. Maybe the food was laced with her sweat? - One time saw employee chewing gum, then putting her fingers in her mouth before putting food together. - Wife felt weird after eating the coleslaw. We ordered it in the afternoon, so we were thinking it was sitting out there for a while before it was served to us. Do not think I will go here again, though I used to order food here a lot. This poor rating is purely based on service. I asked to order an 8 piece dark family pack. The guy taking my order states that they are out of dark but I can order mixed. I ask him how can you have mixed but not dark. He gives some BS excuse about cutting up a whole chicken. I really hope the manager reads this and talks with the staff. If you can not provide the customer with an 8 piece dark family pack because you don't feel like cutting up 2 chickens then you shouldn't have it on the menu. read more

one star because we used to come here alot ever since we been in vallejo which is since 93 and we used to love it but over there years i tried way better food and this just dont cut it anymore aside from that the place is really old they tried to renovated it but it still smells bad in there and the burrtios and tacos have no flavor i would eat that shredded chicken as its been in the freezer for a couple days they just add water to it and pressure cook it. the fresh chickens that are coming out are probably the best thing the rest is simple and boring its only plain rice with onlion the beans are nasty as well which have been sitting in a pot all day the salsas are not made daily in sit in the fridge for a while i would not recommend coming here but if you really want roastisrre chicken i suggest you get a fresh one and just the chicken. everything is so plain with no flavor. read more

This place is ok. we ordered the chicken some tacos a rice and cheese burrito and spanish rice. The chicken was not warm at all. For food safety measures meat needs to remain a certain temp, but the rice was Hot. Someone mis labeled the mild and hot salsa. My toddler loves salsa. I gave him some HOT (it was supposed to be mild) he had a fit. The only reason I gave it any stars at all is because the rice and chese burrito was good. read more

This used to be our family spot to eat at and we used to eat here regularly, at least once a week. For at least the past year it's been going down hill. They stopped serving breakfast, rotisserie chicken is always dry, so dry that, I don't know why they would count it as a piece of chicken. They seem to be cutting a lot of corners now, which has made the quality go way down, nothing seems freshly made anymore (mashed potatoes and their rice are not the same as it used to be a few years back, seems like instant potatoes now). Quality goes down and prices went up, I wouldn't mind the price if it was good. Customer service really sucks, especially if I tip, make sure my order is right, especially when I'm in the drive thru. If I'm ordering tacos don't forget to put taco sauce in bag, especially if I asked for it. Nothing like driving all the way home, ready to eat tacos..BAM..NO TACO SAUCE..it ruins the whole meal, Then I have to drive all the way back, did I mention I TIPPED them to make sure my order was right and the guy told me my taco sauce was at the bottom of bag, but that's right I shouldn't trust anyone, I should of checked the bag myself. So not only has Chicken Express gone down hill, they seem to give you the hassle and rudeness because of their wrong doing, very Poor customer service. I really enjoy chicken express. Their rotessiere chicken is always hot, tasty and delicious. Super chicken burrito is usually my go to! I must admit the burritos can be a bit pricey compared to the burrito trucks but I can assure you ain't no other chicken burrito around like the ones they have at chicken express. When my appetite isn't quite as big I just drop by for a couple tacos. They used to be 69 cents back in the day but now they're closer to 1.50 (with the sour cream extra) but they're super tasty and so I don't mind coughing up the extra change. Taco salads are a big hit for many but not really my thing. Oh, a must is their taco sauce. That stuff is like crack. I drain my burritos and tacos in it. They're open pretty late, till midnight which is convienient! My only two complaints about chicken express is that they don't serve horchata and that sometimes the drive thru line can take forever to get through. They serve cake and cupcakes too. I always get their red velvet cupcakes. Always super moist! read more

For the most part this place is pretty good if you are watching what you eat you can eat here and actually not feel guilty about it and it's pretty cheap so you can lose weight while enjoying your food and still be with in budget. The sandwiches are all good but if you get anything other then the original chicken sandwich keep in mind they are small. Tacos are yummy and reasonable size but the chicken taco salad is the bomb. It's big and will keep you full a long time. Now here is why I can't give 5 stars: horchata was not all that. I've had better at a lot of other places. Just too much cinnamon not enough sweetness. However my biggest issue? On several occasions I've had found bones while chewing my food. Not a pleasant experience. Tonight however I found bones a few times in both my salad and taco. You shouldn't have to feel like you have to check your food for bones every time you come here but it was way to hot today and I wanted something not so greasy. If the tool their time and made sure bones where no where to be found in their food I would definitely give more stars. read more

Chicken express is great! The drive thru can be busy, but they seem to get through it pretty quickly. The chicken is very tasty! The tortillas are great too. Proportions are generous. it's my favorite place to get a quick dinner when I'm too lazy to cook...and then later in the week when I'm having chicken express craving. This is a SOLID 4.75 star rating. Notice I don't review a million places, I'm not trying to be a yelp superstar, I write a review only when there is something important to share. Very unexpectedly this place serves breakfast!!! Tacos & burritos basically. It's a limited breakfast menu but in this case less is more b/c what they do offer is done to perfection. SERIOUSLY. The portions are just right (not gigantic or small - I can't stand super huge wasteful portions and scoff at the minuscule portions at upper crust places) and the price is perfect. Delicious, value, delicious, value. They easily could charge more but I luv the fact I get 2 breakfast tacos for just $3!!! and I'm full. Hey I weigh over 200lbs so I'm not some light weight but the tacos are just right. The eggs are fluffy, the bacon crisp but not greasy and if you go for the chorizo - it's tasty without being oily (chorizo and egg can be served up dripping grease but that doesn't happen here). That's important if you are eating in your car on way to work like I do. The diced potatoes are also done well - not cooked to a soggy mush or under cooked so you get to bite into a starchy nugget. I'd have a hard time doing better at home if you factor in time and effort (cooking/cleaning). Do yourself a favor and grab breakfast. Lunch/Dinner. Chicken Express morphs into the locally owned version of El Pollo Loco. Basically the same menu of items. That's not a bad thing but you generally know what you are gonna get. The one thing is that their prices are a lil higher than el pollo loco so you gotta look for their specials to get real good value but the food never disappoints. I've been going to Chicken Express for years! The service has never been outstanding but, it was inexepensive, quick and tasty! However, I went there a couple nights ago and had the worst experience! The young lady in the drive thru was SOOOO RUDE AND COULD NOT seem to get simple addition and subtraction. I actually went inside and asked to speak to a manager...I waited five minutes and a man came out and unfortunately he didn't speak english! The cashier inside was VERY NICE, UNDERSTANDING and seemed to care. However, the chick from the drive thru walked up, didn't really care and looked like I was wasting my breath and time.
