Holy crap this place is insanely good. Do you know how hard it is to find a good cheesesteak place outside of Philly? Really really really hard. But do you know hard it is to find a GREAT cheesesteak joint outside of Philly? You might as well give up. Give up unless, that is, you stumble into this back-alley in Cherry Hill (in the most "ghetto" looking part of the township which, considering its Cherry Hill, is not that ghetto at all) and come across Chicks. This review isn't about their service. It isn't about the variety on the menu. It isn't about any of their other food. It's just about their cheesesteaks. Both the chicken cheesesteaks and regular cheesesteaks are so good that you'll go into a food coma the first time you bite into one. This is the real deal people. The amount of cheese is perfect. The meats and toppings, perfect. The taste, oh holy mama's ghost. And the roll? Delicious. A big pet peeve of mine is unwrapping my sandwich and the bottom of the roll is so soggy that it's a beat the clock challenge to finish before the entire thing falls apart. Besides who wants to eat wet soggy rolls? Ew. Well not the case here. The roll is perfect and never feels like you're holding a grease torpedo. Bottom line, it's all just short of a masterpiece. They sell other stuff. I got an Italian hoagie from them. It was fine. I'm sure their other stuff is good too. Maybe, maybe not. Everything else could be nasty for all I care, it doesn't MATTER. The quality is fantastic. 95% of the staff are fantastic people. However, it has now been two times that I have have had an issue with the same man working behind the counter. First time (April): I arrive at 5:30PM, and am turned away after attempting to order an Italian sandwich because I was told they "were" closing! (It says it closes at 6PM on the front of the building) Second time (last week) I arrive again at 5:30PM, and the same man gives me a look like he doesn't want me in the store. He proceeds to hastily ask what I want, and then he (regretfully) makes my Italian sandwich, which tasted TERRIBLE. He didn't ask me what I wanted on it. No seasonings, no nothing. Dry as a bone. If you're going to close at 5:30PM, then say it on the door. It's really disappointing because you can't find a better sandwich around with greater people behind the counter. I have gone to Chicks since 1996. I have been regular when I worked nearby to now coming in on Saturday's. I also use them for my family x mas party and Super Bowl Party for hoagie trays and roast beef. Can't beat it and everyone always is looking for at the parties you don't live nearby. You want this. We were headed S on the NJT, and needed to fuel up. Decided to get a bite in the area. Checked Yelp for "best cheesesteak" and Chick's was on top of the list for places nearby. I got the roast pork with sharp provolone, broccoli rabe, and long hots. Perfect sandwich in every way. It was 3:30 in the afternoon, and almost every table was full. There was a line to order. It was still full when we left, having turned over at least once while we were there. There is a reason for this. It is really good. My wife had an Italian hoagie and my son had a cheesesteak. There is no way anyone could randomly run across this place and that's a shame. In a tiny strip center behind a tiny strip center off of Rte 70 in Cherry Hill this has some of the best cheesesteaks around. The place is a zero thrills place with only a few tables but the people are friendly and the food damn good. Neither of us were starving but the buns were so damn soft, the meat so tender we gorged and did not regret the inevitable ten minute walk up to the second floor and home (the donuts after also didn't help). I have to say this is hands-down the best sandwich shop in the area. In my opinion, the buffalo chicken cheesesteak is the best sandwich on earth. The bread is perfect, it's less crunchy than most competitors but it compliments the meat cheese and other fillings beautifully. What's even crazier about Chicks is how personal the staff is. They know many of the customers by first name and it truly has a homey feel. Their prices are fair to say the least; I would happily pay double for this world class meal. I was in town for a swim event and hoped to find a Philly cheesesteak without having to drive into the city. Found Chick's on Yelp and it was amazing. My kid and I split a cheesesteak with American and onions and a buffalo chicken cheesesteak. Both were excellent. If I ever return to the Cherry Hill area again, I will absolutely eat at Chick's. Stopped by for another cheesesteak today at the famous Chick's of South Jersey. Ordered a mushroom cheesesteak this sandwich came off the grill cooked to perfection meat was not fatty, each bite was moist with the perfect amount of cheese roll had texture but not to soft. Sandwich was not very tasty and not over seasoned just how I like my cheesesteak next time I might check out some of Chick's other variety of sandwiches. I love their sandwiches and hoagies! During the weekday, this place is PACKED for lunch. I would advise you to come and pick up your order before 12pm or after 2pm. Their cheesesteaks are great, and their Italian hoagies are my favorite. The hoagies are HUGE. It can certainly be shared by 2pm. They also offer breakfast sandwiches as well. We were in Camden NJ last weekend for the Scholastic Rowing National Championship Regatta (SRAA) and needed great sandwiches to feed our rowers and parents. We somehow found Chick's and these guys were a pleasure to deal with. I have been looking for a great, not good, but great, cheese steak, in the Cherry Hill area, for years. I have tried most of the Pizza places and even the deli's that boast about their sandwiches. Well, I finally found, what I believe, is the best chees steak in the tri-county area, if not in the southern end of New Jersey. I made a special trip to find Chick's today and the reviews were correct, it is in a small alley, that is "one way" just off of RT 70 in Cherry Hill. Parking was right in front of the store. When I entered the front door, I was greeted with a smile and I ordered a cheese steak with fried onions, wanting to try the basics before I delve into anything special. I told the young lady that I was "eating in" and she asked me to grab a seat in their dining room. I grabbed a soda from the large display and sat and watched as dozens of folks came in for take out and eat-in food. The service was excellent and friendly and within minutes, my sandwich was delivered to my table, wrapped in wax paper and on a small tray. So far, so good. when I unwrapped the sandwich I wasn't surprised to see an over stuffed Liscio's roll, filled with well chopped steak, blended with perfectly glazed onions and American cheese. It felt like a pound of meat and may have been more, but it was cooked perfectly. The flavor was the same as the cheese steaks you used to get, years ago, You could taste the steak. No gristle or fat, just thinly sliced steak, heaped into a fresh Italian roll. It was right off the flat top so I had to let it cool down a bit, but my first bite told me that this was going to become my next "Favorite Cheese Steak" place. The atmosphere was very Cherry Hill and everybody seemed to know everybody. It felt good to be with people that enjoy good food, and this place is a Mecca for foodies, believe me. When I finished my steak, I paid the cashier and told the owner and cooks that my sandwich was the best I have had and that I found them on Yelp, by accident. "Glad we didn't disappoint." was their reply. I love eating where the owners work behind the counter and the quality speaks volumes about them. Randomly stopped here on the way home to north Jersey from Baltimore after consulting Roadfood and Yelp. If you didn't know it was here you'd never find it. Place is no-nonsense. It's a deli but if you're going out of the way, you're coming for the cheesesteak. Not much of a question about that. Music on the radio was classic 70's and 80's throwback stuff that made me feel like I was 10 again. Service was adequate, no-frills. Not terribly fast but not terribly slow either. I came on a Wednesday lunch and the volume was high. Most people knew to call ahead so be prepared to wait for your food even if nobody was in line ahead of you. I went out of the way to go here based on the reviews and it didn't disappoint. The meat was tasty and well chopped, the cheese was good but not too much, and the fried onions were there but not overpowering. And best of all the bread was fresh, full, and soft. Awesome. As I've said before, it's always nice to have the best version of a certain food that you've ever had. Right? Being able to easily answer the question "what's your favorite pizza" is great during interviews or parties. And if you want to be able to (correctly) answer "what's your favorite cheesesteak", you should immediately go to Chicks. I usually split a regular cheesesteak and a buffalo chicken cheesesteak with someone, because they're both amazing. The buffalo chicken cheesesteak though, that's where it's at. You like buffalo chicken, sure. You like cheesesteaks, sure! And you even like buffalo chicken cheesesteaks, probably! But guess what. Nothing I've ever tasted comes even close to this. It's perfection. The best cheesesteak ever created, hands down, and if rumors can be believed it's even won Best of Philly awards (despite being in a decidedly non-Philadelphia-having state). Very, very good. My husband really loved the cheesesteak. (I don't eat them cause I am allergic to like everything) Anyway, everyone that was there when we were there were talking and comparing their food and all the people that we spoke to also really loved their sandwiches. My husband said when he goes back next time that he will get it with extra cheese cause he likes his sandwiches really cheesy. Besides my husband's love of super cheese laden sandwiches, (I always order everything with extra cheese for him and he didn't know this until now unfortunately- my fault, I usually do the ordering) he said that this was the BEST CHEESESTEAK he ever had. He also said the meat was a really good quality, not fatty at all, and has a really great taste to it. He also tried some of a chicken cheesesteak and liked this as well.
