This is a new er Korean fried Chicken spot on the east side of koreatown. Honestly, it seemed kind of like a ghost kitchen or did not have the nicest exterior and is in a kind of shady part of the neighborhood. That being said, there is plenty of parking because there is almost no one there and the food itself was pretty great. I wouldn't expect to eat there and be prepared to take things home, but other than that it's totally worth stopping by for a fried chicken sandwich or a half dozen wings. I am genuinely worried for the restaurant industry in LA. Hear me out. I've been to Chimmelier more than a handful of times--maybe 7 or 8 over the last few months. One time I went twice within a 4-day period, and the staff recognized me. I say this to note that I am not just a one-time patron who is being picky or unreasonable. Sometimes the chicken comes out inconsistent, with partial seasoning on the chicken itself, but I'm willing to attribute it to an off day. This latest experience was more than a hiccup. When I brought the food home, I could not believe how tiny the wings were. I say with absolute certainty that they were much, much smaller than on my last visit in October. It was a joke--basically kid's-size wings. I had no idea shrinkflation works even on chicken wings. One would think they would be fairly uniform in size, but I guess that's how you drive the weight down while serving the same number of pieces. On top of this, the wings were not cooked properly. I ordered soy garlic, honey butter, and gochujang, and it seemed like half or more of the seasoning was missing on almost every piece. This isn't the first mishap, as I mentioned earlier, but this time was especially egregious. It felt like I was just eating unflavored fried chicken. So now we have poor quality control and smaller portions. At $54 after tax for 24 baby wings, it is way overpriced at this point. If you're going to cut costs by serving smaller portions, at least ensure your fried chicken is evenly cooked, not just that flavoring is applied to half the chicken! Going back to my original point about being worried for the restaurant industry: This type of stuff is becoming more common in my dining experiences--smaller portions, inconsistent execution, high prices--but this took it to another level of bad, warranting this review. I cannot see how diners will continue to pay these high prices for such inconsistent/low-quality food and small portion sizes. It is simply unsustainable. I normally give two or even three chances even when I have a meh experience. Unfortunately, I don't believe the problems described here are simply due to staff turnover or being slammed with orders. Tried this place for the first time with my friends and we ordered for takeout but decided to just eat there since we arrived early for pickup and got hungry. This is a super low key small restaurant that has some high bench tabletop and then 2 tables with 4 seats each. The funny thing is that you're sitting on top of this makeshift seats which are made out of Home Depot gallons with cushions place on top. Be aware! You can get your finger caught accidentally if you're trying to lift and seat at the same time!! The staff is pleasant and will bring out your food as it becomes ready. You basically grab your own water from the water station and they give you cups as well as utensils. If you order on the spot online, there is a large order screen. FOOD: - we ordered the garlic soy fried chicken wings and the dry rub chicken tenders - both were tasty - the corn cheese was way more cheesy than expected -- need more corn - it's also very salty - shrimp toast was good - better if you use the sauce to dip - ttkeokbokki - very chewy - way chewier than I'd like - but not spicy and otherwise tasty - but a small portion only Because fried chicken can be super greasy I did wish they had a wash station for your hands. The parking lot does usually have a pretty bad odor, but that's not the restaurant's fault. So takeout is pretty much required. If you can look past that, you're gonna get some super good KFC. Believe the hype! This place was an immediate win from the moment we walked in. The dining room is cute and casual, there are bucket stools with lower tables and higher stools facing the parking lot with a counter. It's full of cute signs and artwork! I prefer mine this way (not super overpowering) Seasoned Fries - As they should be (not mind blowing, but not terrible) Wings - I was a fan of the sweet gochujang (great sweet/spicy combo) and the soy garlic (savory and garlicky) K-Tenders - I got these with the dry rub and they were great. However, all of their seasoning was sweet. The fries have a season salt-ish sprinkle that had sugar granules. The spicy wings were not too spicy but also too sweet. The garlic soy was also...way too sweet. And the Bul Dok Ramen was mushy and spicy but inedible. Mind you, we love spicy and have eaten plenty of spicy ramen. Came here on a Friday night and the restaurant was surprisingly not crowded. Seems like they get a lot of to-go orders. Parking was easy to find as there is a huge lot out front, but many of the spots are tandem spots so beware! The guy working was super nice and let us try the yang yum sauce so we knew how it was before we ordered and he also was helpful with our to-go boxes. The seasoned fries were nicely crispy and well-seasoned, it's like boiling crab cajun fries but sweeter and not as spicy. The rose tteokboki was probably the weakest thing we tried, it was just like generic pasta sauce tasting. The wings were really good with a nice crunch and the soy garlic was really tasty without being too salty. THE CHICKEN BURGER WAS THE BEST chicken sandwich I've ever had. Ambiance: This place is in a plaza with limited parking and a security attendant, which is good and bad. We managed to find a place, but also nice to have a security person while in LA late at night. I finally got to try Chimmelier! fried chicken in K town is always my go to when i dont want to cook a meal at home. Chimmelier is in K town and has a parking lot to boot. Granted, the tandem parking is not ideal but it is better than no parking at all! I took it to go and they made sure to package it well so it kept crispy. By the time i got home the wings were definitely still hot and crispy. The honey butter was delicious - cooked perfectly juicy. OMG sauce was also good but that batch was a tiny bit overcooked. needless to say we still completely demolished it. The cheese corn doesn't travel well, it was a soupy goop of cheese. we ended up turning it into a dippy sauce for bread. still yum. The shrimp toast was very good! Very crispy and great flavor. The tenders were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The dry rub they coated the tenders in had a good kick of heat and the burn slowly creeped up as I ate more of them! The corn cheese was a great compliment to the chicken and it was rich, gooey, and cheesy. I was fully stuffed by the end of my meal. I love the interior as it's decorated with graffiti all over and it brings a unique vibe when you walk in. Service was also great with the cashier being friendly and welcoming and the food didn't take too long to arrive after I ordered.
