Came here on a Friday night and it was packed at 6:45pm!! Luckily we made a reservation. It was my family's first meal in PHX coming from the Bay Area, CA. They were surprisingly pleased by the peking duck with buns, flounder in white sauce, seafood nest, and honey walnut prawns. They enjoyed the flavors and said the food wasn't too salty. I had been hoping to find a restaurant in Phoenix that serves Peking Duck, and a friend told me about China Chile. The last time I had Peking Duck was over 20 years ago on a trip to China, and the version served at China Chile is outstanding. It serves at least 5 or 6 people, so get some friends or family together and go try it! I also really enjoyed the Sichuan String Beans, and the Lucky Buddha Beer! This is our go-to family Chinese restaurant. We order takeout at least monthly, and go there once a month as well. It's quick and efficient but also nice to sit down in their large open dining room. Staff is friendly and patient when my 10yo practices her Mandarin (super grateful for that). Yes, it's "American Chinese" food but it's high quality and delicious. SUGGESTIONS: * Buy longer drink straws because they are too short for the tall plastic glasses. * Crumbs on carpet in eating area. Task an employee with Dustbusting them up quickly during serving hours. We don't want to look at the crumbs while we're eating. Don't wait until the restaurant is closed. We know you will run the big vacuum after closing time, but a Dustbuster can quickly take care of the crumbs. * Do not allow extremely loud customers at any table to go uncorrected. They are disturbing all the other customers and making it impossible for people to hear each other or their servers. Do not be intimidated by them. Ask them to keep it down. Hopefully your parking lot has 24/7 cameras with good quality footage. Find out what car(s) they came in and get their license plate numbers. Hopefully you have good surveillance cameras INSIDE the restaurant as well to ID the people at the loud table(s), in case they try to take retribution against the restaurant for correcting them about behavior they ALREADY KNOW IS TOTALLY RUDE. Allowance of this behavior is COSTING YOU CUSTOMERS who are intimidated by and annoyed by bad customers. * You CAN afford the minor repairs of interior aspects and furnishings needed given how busy and successful your restaurant is. Maybe none of the Owners or Employees notice or mention the repairs and improvements needed. Maybe no one realizes how very important these details are. Maybe no one realizes that the customers certainly do notice the repairs and improvements needed. Maybe no Owners realize how much potential income is being LOST due to undone repairs and improvements. For example, the aquarium water was cloudy/dirty. A brand new aquarium with more interesting fish would be a plus. Another example, ceiling tiles in the Waiting Area are water stained and should be replaced. Another example, the carpet in the dining area is old, worn out, dirty and stained. How many customers would PREFER to Dine-In and TIP your servers, but they choose to order Take Out because they can't stand to think about how many germs are in that old carpet? What customers DON'T WONDER: "If they can't keep the aquarium properly maintained, fix water-stained ceiling tiles or replace the ancient, filthy carpet, what OTHER important details are they overlooking when they prepare my food!?!?!?" What customers ALSO DON'T WONDER: "If their parking lot is always full and they are raking in massive money, why can't they replace a $10 water-stained ceiling tile? Are they mismanaging their income? Are they gamblers? Are they having to pay off The Mob all the time? What the heck is going on? Went for the reviews with all the hype around the orange chicken and it was some of the worst orange chicken I ever had. The chicken was large breasts and lacked orange flavor, they looked like wings when opening the box. Customer service was rushed for the pick up and no thank you or anything after paying. No soy sauce, no fortune cookies in the bag and the sauce was spilled all over the boxes. Sweet n sour chicken came with 2 tiny cups of sauce and hardly battered at all. Skin was very crispy like it should be. Meat wasn't gamey. Not too salty. Friend said buns seem to be homemade with their irregular sizes. Very soft and fluffy. Wish there were more green onions. Will request for more next time! The amount of duck was good but was also pranked by a bed of fried vermicelli under the sliced duck. Roast duck was quite salty. Drenched in sauce. Was tasty but not what we were used to with it being roasted without sauce. Will ask for sauce on the side next time. Flavor was good too! Not too fatty. Chinese broccoli - on point. Snow peas and mushroom - on point. Honey walnut shrimp - also delicious. Yang chou fried rice - requested off menu and was delicious too. Asked for less salt and oil in everything but everything was still pretty salty and greasy. I'll try to make sure they read the memo next time and see if they would meet my expectations. All these, came with rice, came up to be $122 + tips. Not bad! We had four people eating and had leftovers for everyone for an extra meal. Service was good. Huge interior space. This place is fairly priced, clean, accommodating, polite -- and tastes LEGIT. Peking duck wait time was about an hour and 100% worth it. My husband, who's never had it before, sang praises. When you eat there, you don't get a waiter, you get 6 of them all teaming up to handle everyone. The food always comes quickly regardless of how busy they are. Also you will get a MOUNTAIN of food on your plate when you dine in person. China Chili is located off 3rd avenue near Osborne in Phoenix. It doesn't look large from the front but when you walk in, it is a cavernous space, reminiscent of vintage Chinese dim sum restaurants. And vintage in a bad way. The entry has water stained ceiling tiles and the dining room carpet is badly in need of being replaced with a vinyl plank floor. It is dirty, dusty, stained, and has seen way too many spills. Dirty fish tank with sad looking fish. For a place that fills up at lunch and is steadily busy most of its open hours, you would think these maintenance items would get taken care of so that customers would not be turned off the minute they walk in the door. The place looks tired. But China Chili is not a vintage dim sum place. It is a traditional Cantonese American Chinese food place with some updated dishes on the menu from other regions. Example- mapo tofu, pot stickers, etc. I grew up on Chinese American food, so even tho I prefer more authentic regional Chinese food places that don't change their cooking for American palates (only spice levels on requests), I don't turn my nose up at a good Chinese American place for lunch. The pot stickers are good but you can tell they were not made at the restaurant. Probably one of the good frozen varieties available at the Asian markets. I asked for Chuo Chili Sauce to use with them along with the pot sticker sauce. . However, the Mapo Tofu was just passable the first time I ordered it. I love tofu and can't resist Mapo Tofu, so I thought I would try it. My expectations were not very high. It came out with peas and carrots in it, a lonely chili pepper to indicate spicy, and quite bland. It had none of the numbing spice that is a traditional part of the iconic Mapo Tofu dish. That's "American" style, dumbed down for palettes not accustomed to spicy Szechuan food. So, the next time I ordered, I requested traditional Chinese style, no peas and carrots, and very spicy, and with Szechwan Peppercorn if they had them. It came out quite good. So that is my go to dish there. Sometimes I will get Hunan Shrimp or Shrimp Egg Foo Young or chop suey, but mostly I get Pot Stickers and Mapo. I have only gone at lunch and it is wise to go early. They tend to get busy and parking is tight for such a large place. I do not know what their dinner service is like. The wait staff is attentive but not very friendly. I'm not certain if that is a defense mechanism to being treated badly by customers over the years or just normal for them. They do tend to rush your ordering. Even if they are not super busy. It's a "get in/get out" type of attitude. China Chili is worth a try if you like Chinese American food and are not expecting authentic, regional Chinese cuisine that hasn't been "adapted" for American tastes. It's a good place for lunch and the prices are reasonable. If you can get past the ambiance and the wait staff's attitude. Overall: 3 stars Ambiance: 2 stars for lack of maintenance Food: 4 stars Service: 3 stars for the brusk nature of the wait staff. They certainly don't make you feel like a valued customer. read more

We went here because of a recommendation. We started with egg rolls & fried shrimp. The egg rolls had no pork in them, and little flavor, but ok. The fried shrimp (and the egg rolls) came with NO dipping sauces, but were good. There were 3 or 4 bottles of unmarked sauces on each table, one was Chinese mustard though the other 2 were unknown. I ordered the Mongolian Beef, & she ordered the Sesame Chicken, and House Fried Rice. Everything (EVERYTHING) had very little flavor to it that it was almost bland. The service was poor, and we always had to flag down a server for most anything that we wanted or needed. There is no real reason for anyone to ho to this food joint. We love China chili!! We've only ever taken it to go, so I can't speak to the ambiance or table service but it's always very busy there and they have never messed up a to go order. It's always double-checked and carefully packaged. I really haven't found much in the valley I like in terms of Chinese food but every meal we have had here is outstanding and full of flavor. How, did customers that came 15-20 minutes AFTER us get served BEFORE us. And the servers just walked by glancing at our empty drinks after waiting for almost an hour for our food. We had to ask a male server to refill our drinks and he had an attitude. We had 4 dish orders and the table that came after us had about 8! Unsatisfactory!
