I REALLY love their food. They are the closest place to have delivery to my house and I am so happy about that. We ordered from them on a whim, and ended up loving it. The only thing I have to complain about is the fact that the to-go person on the phone was very rude at some points. We have been coming here for 25 years! The food is better than average nothing GREAT but good quality good tasting food at the right price! You can not beat their lunch specials Monday through Saturday 11:00AM to 3:00PM. We eat here several days a week. Service is great and they have the best crushed ice and ice tea in town! My wife and I have long been fans of this place...I can't say anything bad about the food as it's really really good...especially the sweet n sour chicken, pork fried rice, beef n broccoli, and mu shu chicken...it's been a while since we've been there but our whole family decided to go yesterday for Mother's Day, hopefully for a nice lunch. Sadly they had one lady waitressing for the place being 3/4 full, she barely made it to our table, completely forgot the sauces and things we requested, the mu shu chicken was pre-wrapped with very little plum sauce, and the worst part the portions were so small that we left still quite hungry after paying over $50 for lunch. China Gardens Restaurant Nov. 19, 2014 My wife and I went to the China Gardens Restaurant with high expectations based on the web site reviews, it was rated as #2 with a 91 rating. On 11-19-14 11:30 we arrived. BOY, what a huge disappointment that was. We were seated right away, and then waited for over 15 minutes for the menu while the waitress was serving others. After another 10 minutes the waitress came and asked if we wanted anything to drink, we both said yes we would like water. Another 10 or so minutes went by, the waitress arrived with two waters & a coke for someone else behind us, while giving us our water, and the waitress spilled the coke on the table and me. She did apologize and clean up the mess, BUT she then left and went over to another table and started removing their plates without taking our order. After over 45 minutes Plus, she still hadn't taken our order. After another 8-10 minutes, we got up and walked out. Needless to say, we will never go there again. read more

My Husband and I have been going to China Garden since we first started dating nearly 12 years ago. In my opinion, China Garden has the best chinese food in town. They have great lunch specials and they are always fast. The portion sizes are generous. The restuarant is cozy and quiet and the staff is nice and attentive. I've been in Bakersfield all my life and have been coming here for years, and it never disappoints. All portions are served family style so there is never a shortage when it comes to second helpings. Prices are more than fair considering the servings. Nice atmosphere, quick service, friendly staff. This is one of those "hole in the wall" gems that you might not know exists unless someone told you about it. Great deal on the lunch combination. It's probably not what a foodie or gourmet chef would consider great Chinese food. It's probably highly Americanized, but it is delicious. The service is great and they serve you hot tea pots. The owner still tells people I bring in about how much I ate and how little I was back then and how she would bring me and my best friend extra soup and rice and how we would eat everything and she couldn't believe it. I love this place. It's not as authentic as some of the places you'll get in San Francisco or other cities with a large Asian population but for Bakersfield it's one of the top three for sure. They are very friendly and helpful. My favorites for lunch are the sizzling rice soup, chicken and broccoli, kung pao chicken, and moo shu pork (little Chinese burritos). Let me start by saying I grew up eating here. I have not eaten at many Chinese restaurants so perhaps I'm a bit jaded in favor of China Garden. My family and I have always loved the Kung Pao chicken. Their house fried rice and house chow mein is also excellent and full of meat( shrimp, chicken, beef, pork). Prices are reasonable and delivery is available. At lunch time they have special menu ( m-f) with most items being under $6. Service is always fast but not the friendliest of folks. Also another reason I hold back a star is their portion sizes during delivery seems to vary, honestly shrinking. All in all good Americanized Chinese food at a descent price. read more

The last time that I ordered delivery, I ordered beef and broccoli & wor wonton soup but the containers that they sent were both half empty! Delivery orders are pretty inconsistent. First of all I would suggest you skip the appetisers. The Pu Pu Platter is ordinary and lacks flavor. However the soups are very good. We had the sizzling rice soup and it was flavorful and loaded with fresh tasy ingredients. We tried the beef and scallop dish and the Kung Pow Three Ingredients. Both were very good and once again full of great ingredients. I wasn't as fond of the fried rice as my husband. I felt it had an off taste. The staff were friendly and courteous. Portions are large. Used to one of my favorite take out places but they must have changed chefs or ownership . Ordered moo shu , Kung pao chicken , broccoli beef and fried rice .. Each item SUCKED !!!! Their moo shu pancakes are now dried out tortillas ! The beef broccoli was 2 pieces of beef in a whole bunch of broccoli . Couldn't even get the fried rice right !!! It was dry and tasteless ....
