In the mood for good affordable Cantonese food then consider Chinatown BBQ for the bang for your buck and more. Due to COVID, I made a reservation for dinner and also pre-ordered our meats since most will sell out before dinner time. For 3 people, we selected the jellyfish marinated in sesame and chili, gai lan with garlic oil, 3 bowls of rice, 2 beers and the 3 BBQ Meat Platter: soy chicken, BBQ duck and Roasted Pork. The jellyfish was excellent. The gai lan was a bit over cooked but still ok. The meats were moist and cooked to perfection. Also perfectly seasoned thus allowing you the opportunities to dip the meats in sauces: sweet soya, ginger and scallion and plum. The crunch on the roasted pork skin was amazing. Simple delicious and truly appreciated the staff asking if our food was to our liking. Total bill with tax, $69.00. Before leaving, I placed a take-out order for the curry beef brisket. Dinner for tomorrow but did have a taste before popping it in the refrigerator. creamy mild curry sauce and the beef was tender and melted in my mouth. The decor cast a dreamy throw back to Asian eateries of mid-century. We sat at a booth and the photos of families and community on the wall envelops you with a homey feel. Being here tonight for dinner brought back fond childhood memories when Chinatown was vibrant and hoping one day it will be again. A fun place for a quick bite with family or friends. Will certainly be back to try other dishes. Meter parking outside (expensive for Chinatown at $4-6/hour). Another must go to place in Vancouver. Tried to have lunch here but the line and wait was 1 - 1.5 hour wait. Luckily, we came back for dinner and got in in about 15 minutes and beat the crowd. Nothing fancy or trendy about this place, not to mention the very greasy floor, other than they serve delicious and scrumptious bbq. Nothing I've had in CA compares to this place. Their signature dish is the bbq pork and it did not disappoint. I think it's the marinade which separates them from others. I'm not too keen on the duck as the skin was not crispy as I'm used to it being. The curry brisket was to die for. The meat was so tender and the curry was much more flavorful than I'm used to for a Chinese dish. The male manager, forgot his name, but he knows how to serve and keep customers happy. He made some really good recommendations and even kept our orders reasonable so as not to over order food. Best Chinese BBQ I've had in a long time. We ordered the Four treasures chef plate (roast pork, soy sauce chicken, bbq pork, salted egg) over rice, curry beef brisket, and garlic Chinese broccoli (gai lan). All three meats were perfectly cooked. Didn't eat the salted egg my mom loved it. I usually eat pescatarian most of the time but will make exceptions when worth it (YOLO) and this place was definitely worth. - roast pork was juicy and tender with the crunchiest skin - soy sauce chicken was moist and not too salty. - BBQ pork was my fav. Lean and not dry and not red with heavy red food coloring. - Rice was also perfectly cooked. -gai lan cooked perfectly. Crunch stems with tender leaves but the garlic was fried and a bit salty. This was recommended by my sister. So I added it to my bookmarks. Upon entering you notice the service is A1! Immediately greeted and helped. Then as you walk in. They've got a great design layout while you can watch the butcher cutting the meats in front of you. The quality of the meats here are on point. I got the combination plate. Outstanding food. Superb service. Big shout out to Manager Bobby who made a strong first impression. I phoned in early and he promised to hold the meat for me. As soon as I arrived, he knew my order and asked the kitchen to prepare. He was especially mindful not to chop the siu yuk roast pork until I arrive. Otherwise the skin will become soggy. Even an hour later when we dined, the skin was amazingly light and crispy. The cha siu bbq pork was very tender. Most places serve half fat to make it soft but this place makes an awesome tendernpiece throughout including the end piece which is usually hard to the bite. Went to this cozy little spot, once again. It's definitely a place I recommend to anyone looking for good Chinese bbq. The menu has expanded past what it used to be (only the meats on rice) but I'd still pretty limited, which is fine since if you come here you're coming for the BBQ. The crispy pork is so juicy and delicious, and the skin is done perfectly. The duck and BBQ pork are also my go-to's and I like the fact that you can add a side of delicious sweet Chinese sausage for only $3. Going down there I noticed that Mayor Ken Sim really did keep his promise and the area is feeling markedly less shady than it has previously. The service is nice and efficient. Since everything is already ready it comes out pretty fast. I've seen people complain that the server suggests what he thinks you should order unprinted, which is true, but so what? You don't have to accept his suggestion, and I'm sure lots of tourists trying the place out have never had Chinese BBQ before. Sadly I do have to remove 1 star, but I remove it subjectively, meaning if you don't care about these things then ignore the removed star. The small issues to me are 1) they don't serve tap water, only tea. If you want water you have to buy it. I'm not even sure if that's legal tbh. I thought restaurants were required to provide water? And 2) none of the bigger bbq meat combo platters allow you to choose the duck as one of your options, so you have to order it separately or as a small single person combo, so you don't get much and it's not great for sharing since it only gives you 3 pieces or so. However, neither of these annoyances are enough to prevent me from returning over and over again because the food is so delicious. read more

My wife and in-laws dined here during a trip a to Vancouver. I ordered the half BBQ duck on rice with scallion-ginger sauce. The duck was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The scallion-ginger sauce was so flavorful and it elevated the entire dish. Bobby was our server and he was on his A-game. One could order the small plate or a large plate. I am glad I ordered the small plate. The steamed rice was barely warm and the same went for the pork. I was disappointed that it was just warm. The portions are plenteous. 1/2 chicken and small side spinach could feed 2-3 people. The rice is a good quality grain. I've missed good rice since I left China. So this was refreshingly tasty. I ate an entire side of rice alone. I carried out, but the dining area, though small, looked comfortable and was full of patrons. Just be mindful if walking there at night, because the area is dicey at night and not well lit. I, a foreign visitor did not know, and walked there from my airbnb around 8pm, and I was uncomfortable and extra watchful. Thankfully it was only a 10min. Walk with no incidence. Really is deserving of 5 stars. Food was excellent. Favorite was surprisingly the chicken, which was perfect and I feel that it's actually so incredibly hard to cook chicken in such a succulent way. My first few hours in Vancouver was stressful and I was starving. Pulling out my trusty Yelp app, this lovely place popped up amongst the huge list of what was near me and I'm so glad it did! The first restaurant I journeyed into when I arrived, set the bar for food in Vancouver. Seriously while eating the delicious meat, I was wondering how could it get better than this? The staff was so friendly! Best service ever! They ask you how your meal is going, make suggestions, and make your experience even better. One of them, Bobby, noticed how we had the Yelp page all pulled up to order and offered assistance. My mom usually orders for me at Chinese establishments and I've gotten so used to that, I'm now so awkward. I was relieved to see him! He gave us advice on 2 options of either starting with one meat and adding on, adding curry (which he gushed it's award winning status and because he's been eating this for 7 weeks now) or the 3 BBQ meats to start off with Gai lan and garlic oil. I chose this option so I could get a sample of the roasted duck, pork, and pork belly. I never wanted to move to Vancouver so much until I bit into the duck, holy shit my life is changed. The pork belly and roasted pork were good too but I've never had duck like that. Speechless! The Gai Lan was the same thing, never had anything like that too. If I were Canadian, I would be a regular at Chinatown BBQ. The food, the restaurant, and the staff are all 10/10. This was my first and last meal during my first visit to Vancouver. The interior of the restaurant takes you back to the old days of Hong Kong. The interior transports me to a TVB drama setting. It's so cute and charming. The food is delicious. The duck, char siu, and pork were crispy and each bite was full of flavor. It rivals with the taste of bbq in Hong Kong. I was surprised the beef curry was award winning only because it's strange the curry is good at a bbq place. But it lives up to its name. The curry was delicious and full of flavor. It wasn't too runny. Everything about this place is a 10/10. Also the staff made the whole trip worth while. They're so kind and attentive. Maybe it's the Canadian friendliness. My family and I are from Hawaii and the Chinese food there is awesome! After all these years in the states, we see the difference in east and west coast Chinese food. However, no one can compare to Hawaii's cuisine, until now. We ordered the duck, BBQ pork, and poached chicken. The duck was tender and the flavors were to die for! The BBQ pork is really a roasted pork belly and it was also very tasty! But my personal favorite is the poached chicken. It reminds me of a dish back home called cold ginger chicken. The ginger scallion sauce was spot on! From the host to the wait staff, all of the employees were helpful and professional. We plan to make this our go to when we are here in Vancouver. The place is very nicely decorated that it's a delight to sit in the room and just see how they've done up the walls, and see the various photos they've chosen. The food is star of this place, and it is terrific; I've never had a meal here where I didn't enjoy the preparation of the barbecued meats. The staff are also top notch. They're friendly, and make an effort to make you feel welcome. And one notices from the way they interact with one another they seem to enjoy working with one another, which says a lot about a place.
