I ordered from here a second time because even though we ate here a couple weeks ago, I honestly couldn't remember almost anything about the place. The one thing I could remember is that the sauce container for the sweet and sour chicken hadn't been properly closed so the sweet and sour sauce spilled on literally everything in the bag. Sadly, this second visit wasn't any better. On the plus side, the sauce wasn't spilling everywhere. In the extremely negative side, the pork fried rice we ordered had shrimp in it! What is that about?? I had hoped it was a single shrimp that maybe got included from a prior order, and then we found a second and thought all was well. But then when I went to dish some up for myself, I found several other pieces of shrimp. I checked the slip and it says pork fried rice, so I don't know what the deal is about. Given that this is the second careless order we've had from them (out of two!), the relatively expensive price point for a portion, and that it's at least a 20 minute drive each way, I'm not going to bother giving them a try again.

Nice looking little place. We tried it based on some advice from people we know. Well, it's Chinese food but not something I'm running back for. I've had worse. this was middle of the road Chinese. Dishes were decent size but a little light on the meats. Egg rolls were decent and I definitely tasted the peanut butter in them. Not as good as others in the area. Fried rice was the best dish and that was fair. Hong Kong chow fun was mostly flavorless. I really wanted to find a new place for Chinese and it's just not that place folks. For the 10 minutes longer in the car, I'll be heading back to Hong Kong Chop Suey. Sorry Munch!

Decent Chinese- had the Mongolian beef (spicy, the ratio of beef to onions was a bit heavy on the onions), Orange chicken (sweet and sticky with lots of veggies), potstickers (very plump) and the egg rolls. Have never eaten in the restaurant, just get carry out. It's our go to spot for Chinese carry out.

The old Chinese Munch Inn's I was not a fan of. They were no MSG, carrot in the fried rice guys. This is place has changed. The food is the bomb American Chinese food. Egg rolls, egg foo young, chicharron bulalak ftw. The decor is straight out of a kungfu movie. Clean, good service, cheap, best in genre greasy type food.

Egg roll solid 8.0 fried shrimp fall apart there garbage the pork fried rice fantastic 8.9

I have never tried this place but when I went to order, I noticed a convenience fee added. What is this? Is it for ordering online or credit /debit card use? I would be glad to order in person and pay cash. Can anyone explain this charge?

Convenience fees are common nowadays post Covid and current due to higher cost of food. If you want to avoid this fee, eat in or pick it up but I have to say the food here is worth it!

To clear things up about their dining area, they have 2 small tables outside and 1 small and 2 big tables inside. Small tables - 2 chairs. Big tables - 4 chairs. On weekdays, you don't need to make a reservation. On the weekends due to their limited dine in area, I would recommend a reservation to be safe. You can make a reservation through Google/Yelp or phone call. Parking is easy since it's in a strip mall. There is also a 3% charge if you use plastic. Just a note, I tried looking at their food pictures on their website, but it kind of runs slow. Sometimes it would freeze. I think they need to fix it. I would return here to try other items. I would highly recommend ordering off their Malaysian menu instead of the miscellaneous. Don't order orange chicken or General Tao's chicken. Very cringe because you can get that literally anywhere. Get the Malaysian food because it's hard to find in Illinois. The owner is very sweet and the service is attentive. We ordered lor bak, nasi lemak, Hainanese chicken rice, hokkien mee, and kuih talam. Just a FYI, the portions are very generous. For 2 people, I would recommend ordering 2 dishes. Prices are reasonable for what you get. A pot of tea is $6. -lor bak 5 - I highly recommend this appetizer. It has crispy pork sausage with shrimp fritters, beancurd, and cucumber. It comes with two sauces. Everything was delicious. -nasi lemak 5 - I love the chicken rendang. The meat is very tender and it has a deep flavor. You can taste the spices that went into it. -Hainanese chicken rice 3.5 - I gave Penang Malaysian Cuisine a 4 because the rice was delicious. HD's version, the rice was not as moist and flavorful. The chicken was not bad, it's about the same as Penang's. It could be a bit more succulent without the sauces. -hokkien mee 4 - this won't be as tasty as in Malaysia. I liked the big pieces of shrimp, an adequate amount of sliced pork and hard boiled egg. The broth is still very good. If it's your first time having this, I still recommend it. -kuih talam 5 - I would suggest this if you like pandan. It's not sweet. It has a soft and bouncy texture.

Both the service and quality of food has gone way down from what they were famous for. The waitress spilled my tea, also dipped her finger in my tea, had no apology or offer to exchange it with a fresh cup. I had to ask her for a fresh cup of tea. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!

The Kung Pao chicken was also super tasty if you like a bit of a kick you might want to ask for some extra spice next time. We also really enjoyed the shrimp fried rice and those yummy egg rolls you get two per order. Just a heads up though the portions for dine in felt a tad on the smaller side especially for the sesame chicken. On the service front it was a bit hit or miss. We found ourselves with empty drink glasses for quite a while and it seemed like the staff mainly came by to take our order and drop off the food. However, there was a really sweet young kid at the register who was super helpful and friendly he definitely brightened things up. Finding the place can be a bit of an adventure. It's tucked away in a cozy corner right next to the grocery store so you really only spot it once you've parked. Oh and a quick tip make sure you don't mix it up with the Korean restaurant nearby. A couple of minor bummer moments the chicken lo mein wasn't quite what we hoped for. The noodles were super thin and crunchy rather than the thicker, chewier kind we expected and sadly they were out of egg drop soup that day which was a shame. Despite a few little things the delicious food definitely makes it worth checking out.

The egg rolls were standard, good enough, and would repeat. Chow fun noodles were dry, and a little overcooked. Egg drop soup was good. Egg Foo Young was solid, not the best, not the worst. When asked them to make this dish spicy, they didn't seem to think it was possible. It is. That wasn't a good sign, but the dish was good enough to be your $7 lunch special in a pinch. Moo shu chicken was surprisingly good. Not a dish I usually go for but it was rather tasty and reheated well. In summary, this is serviceable, Americanized, Chinese food. Not great, but not terrible either.

It's been a tough lately since our go to place changed ownership and the quality declined. Hong Kong Restaurant is a small, family owned restaurant in the same strip mall as the Ace Hardware. It's a take out only restaurant, no tables and no seating. The lady is so nice. I called ahead asking how her General Tso's was made with brown sauce or if it was an orange type of sauce. She gave me a good description and mentioning it had some spice to it, but not offensive. It was exactly what my husband wanted. It wasn't overly breaded and the sauce was sweeter, savory with a little heat. He was a happy man. The fried rice had plenty of chicken and cooked well. The portions were huge! I also ordered beef and broccoli Cantonese chow mein. This was delicious! There was so much beef and broccoli, the sauce wasn't salty and went perfect with the chow mein noodles. We ordered egg rolls and crab rangoons too. Both we were good. The wrapper was a little thicker than I prefer, but they were both good. Takeout was usually ready in just 10 minutes, and they were almost always open, even on major holidays (though it's still a good idea to call ahead to confirm). We dined in once before the pandemic, but since that was more than seven years ago, it wouldn't be fair to review that experience now. We got takeout from Tong's Hunan on this July 4th, mostly because they were open until 8:00 pm even on this holiday.  We ordered a Braised Seafood Casserole ($20.95) and a House Special Pan-fried Noodles ($15.95), both were our go-to dishes.  Another go-to dish that we didn't order this time was Happy Family ($20.95) a combination of beef, shrimp, scallop, chicken and Chinese vegetables stir-fried in their house special brown sauce.  Entrees come with white rice. Tong's Hunan serves what I'd call old-school Chinese-American food. Many dishes rely heavily on brown sauce, which tends to overwhelm the natural flavors of the ingredients. While the food is still decent, many of the dishes end up tasting more alike than different. The pan-fried noodles were crunchy as they should be, but they were very greasy.  Even with the paper liner that they put underneath the noodles to absorb some of the oil, it's still very oily. On the positive side, the meats in both dishes were tender and the shrimp fresh and large.  However, the quality is more like a decent Chinese takeout eatery that's 3.5 stars.  I do like their consistency and convenience. The food is reliably decent, and takeout is usually ready in about 10 minutes. This visit took about 20 minutes, which was understandable given the holiday rush. Being open on major holidays is definitely a big plus.  So, 3.5 rounding up to 4 stars.
