I had their massive blue plate special, two full-sized pork chops with two sides. Easily enough for two, so I split it with my husband. Cook options were breaded and fried or grilled, so naturally we had one of each. They weren't jazzed up with any sauce or anything, this isn't that kind of place. The cook wasn't perfect, both were a little over, but were still tender and juicy, easy to cut. Fries were beer-battered which isn't my favorite style, but they were still okay. Mac and cheese was the only downer, from a bag, thin little noodles like a cheap grocery store brand. But it was the only real miss of our meal and my daughter still ate them up with a smile. Service was fast-casual. We were confused at first where to order and had to ask the woman at the bar. To order food walk past the full bar, past the diners, to the back left corner. So I haven't tried their hamburger yet, but what I did have was very good. Cheese fries were a popular item and looked delicious. The Boardwalk is a very cool place with the pond and firepits, very relaxing. More reasons to stop at Chip's are its sweet patio with indoor-outdoor bar and affordable prices. read more

Chips is a hidden gem for a multitude of reasons and I'm excited to write about it. From the outside view, you can't see much of what's going on in the dining area, but when you walk through the parking lot toward the entrance, you see a lake with a Hilton on the other side. As you approach Chips, you notice an outside bar that faces inside and a great patio area for outdoor dining. I immediately think about visits for happy hour or large groups. There's space for families as well, so the options have very few limits if you dine outside. You walk in past the bar on the right and stay left walking to the back of the building to order. There's plenty room for inside dining and the décor is friendly and fun. The gentleman behind the counter had a delightful attitude, and seemed to like dealing with people. He made a few fun comments to my son and was very patient as my kids took "YEARS" to decide what they want to eat. Once you order, you are given a number and can choose a place to sit. The lobby is comfortable and fun, mid to low ambient noise and pleasing to the eye. There is enough separation between tables that you can have a conversation and I might add the bathrooms were spotless. I know, I know, why shift my review to the bathroom? I believe that every piece of service counts, when I dine someplace, it is assumed the place is clean and practices clean habits. I'm happy to say the bathroom reflected the same image as the location and lobby. Now let's get to the food. I ordered a hamburger with everything and had them add mushrooms. I also ordered the "Wrigley field" Garlic Fries. When my food arrived, the first thing I noticed was the fries. Unfortunately my wife noticed my fries too and seemed equally enthusiastic. Funny how this works, my wife didn't think she was hungry enough to order fries, but discovered her appetite once my fries came to the table. I of course left my burger standing alone an started on my fries; that's when it happened, my wife said "these fries are incredible!" Now of course if Daddy's fries are incredible, the kids need to try them too. A couple minutes later, ALL OF MY GARLIC FRIES ARE GONE and my entire family has garlic breath. There is no chance a vampire will approach our table! So here I sit with my burger in front of me; I'm in a mild state of depression because my fries were eaten faster than a politicians promise on election day. Then suddenly it hit me. EAT YOUR BURGER. I applied my catsup and mustard and cut my burger in half. I then noticed how juicy the burger looked and suddenly I'm feeling pretty good. I tell myself, "don't mention how good the burger is out loud, your family will want some". I take my first bite. It's not often I say this, but I will again use my Samuel Jackson quote, because after my first bite I said out loud "now that's a mighty tasty burger". My wife and kids had burgers too, so there was no reply. As I began to devour my delicious burger which was prepared perfectly by the way, that's when I noticed that my family was silent. Not that angry silence that we experience when the kids fight and you scold them to submissions, NO, this was the "getting our grub on" silence of happiness. If I'm being honest, I'm not sure how my family's burgers were ordered, they all went pretty custom. What I can tell you is that they LOVED the food and said they want to come back. Chips is a homerun, a wonderful place to bring the family or bring friends. The place is clean and fun and the food will not disappoint. Not the same as they used to be. Maybe they've changed ingredients and recipes due to rising costs, but the food isn't that same. My wife and I always loved their French dip, which we'd get wit either fried pickles or loaded fries. The last few times we've eaten there the French dip seems much lower quality along with the fried pickles. It's a shame because it was always in our rotation to eat out, but I do not think we'll be back any time soon. FYI: I'd rather pay more money than have the food change. read more

I had been wanting to come by here for a while so i could find out for myself and i was not disappointed. Upon entering the area it is very pretty. Surrounded by lighting and water. Chose an outside seat at the bar. Service was quick and friendly. Food is reasonably priced and very tasty. Lots of menu options & add ons. Ordered a bison burger with some add ons - jalapeños, avocado, fried onion. The menu said burgers cooked medium unless ordered otherwise. Well the burger patty was extremely thin, and way over cooked. Not a fleck of pink in site. Jalapeños were fresh and not pickled which was a little strange for a burger place. They added a lot of tomato which wasn't ripe so I just picked it off. Also, I wish they had actual onion rings and not just the fried onion strings. read more

Today, let me preface this review, by saying that Older Gentleman at the Work Station was working so hard to fill an enormous amount of in dining room and to go orders. He remained so good nature'd, even when the "runners to the tables" literally was screaming at the top of their lungs at him regarding orders. Now, for the review. Today, apparently at 06:40 pm, you were not able to order from the patio bar, as there was only one bar tender to serve both the in dining, bar and patio needs. So, being directed inside, the "Manager on Duty" (yellow shirt) had a line all the way to the entrance door, where she was taking 1-2 orders, then leaving the register and was gone for extended amounts of time (could have taken probably 2-3 more orders) with no explanation. I have never seen this Chips' location being so disorganized and short staffed like this, even before and during the pandemic cut backs. While I understand it is really hard to get restaurant staff to return to work, only having 2 employees (poor lady and gentleman) to assemble and plate the food was an awful strain on them. While I know it is a Sunday, the sun was out and I'm sure people being stir crazy just wanted to go have a nice meal, this to go order experience was the worst I have ever encountered at Chips, and we order to go from there a lot. While I can appreciate the food was good (tator tots and onion strings) could have been a little more cooked, we will think long and hard about ordering from here again. Management, you need to rethink your staffing levels now that the pandemic is lifting and people are turning out again in mass amounts. So sad to see the underpaid staff there trying hard to meet the demand with the limited staff on hand, and not getting any good tips tonight or getting paid increased wages. read more

This is my go-to hamburger place in Plano. When I lived in Dallas, I used to go to the original one, but now that I'm in Plano, I won't go anywhere else. The hamburgers are so juicy and delicious and the fries are superior to all others. They have free refills on sodas and tea and a well-stocked bar for adult beverages. Their menu is quite extensive. Aside from hamburgers, they sell salads, hotdogs, philly cheese steak and chicken fried steak. There is even ahi tuna on the menu -- literally something for everyone! The waist staff here is also very friendly and helpful. They have a cool, laid back atmosphere and a killer patio that overlooks an enormous water feature. While they do have a nice selection and the fries are great (yes they have sweet potato fries) be prepared that 4 burgers, 3 fries and 3 drinks will set you back $50. Honestly? Save a few bucks and go to Carl's Jr and get their thick angus six dollar burger as their patties have more flavor and sweet tea tastes like sweet tea as Chip was being stingy with their sugar. We came here on a Tuesday night and it was not very crowded. I had a drink at the bar while waiting for my party and once this boardwalk area is finished being developed, it should be a great spot to people watch. You can order from the outside, or the inside. There are tons of TVs in the bar area and the service was nice and friendly. Once we were ready to order, we just got in line and there was only one party ahead of us. I had the half pound Chips burger as-is and cheese fries. They were home style burgers and fries and was good for what you pay. We sat outside and the overall experience was great. Really good burgers. The only reason I rate it a 4 is that they boast to have the best burgers. While they are VERY GOOD, I would not say this was the best burger I have had. I had the bison burger on wheat. I do love that they have wheat buns. That is a bonus. I also like that they cook it to your liking. The fries are what they should be boasting about. They were cooked to the perfect crispy perfection. I don't know what oil they're using, but the fries were perfect. The sweet tea was also something to brag about. It had a unique taste & was sweetened to perfection. As for price, it is a bit pricey for lunch...about $32 for two of us. But, it is in a trendy area, so it is to be expected. It's very hard to appreciate the food at Chip's when our takeout order was handled incorrectly from the outset. Perhaps the restaurant was understaffed and too busy to care, but you don't bring out a family sized order to eat at the table when one person plainly requested it to go. Back to the kitchen the order went to get repackaged, and oh, don't forget the condiments that went with the order. Oops, condiments omitted. Staff can't seem to get our orders right, except maybe for the medium rare part. We requested custom ingredients on our burgers, but they just threw everything on them that we asked them to withhold. This place is AWESOME!!! The outdoor area had me feeling as if I was on vacation! Its located on a boardwalk in an upcoming area. The food was great, it was a bit busy but the line was moving pretty quickly. I did go during lunch time so you have to consider that when checking this place out. The guy at the counter was in go-mode! I truly appreciate how fast, yet friendly he was taking the orders. They do have a big menu, so I recommend you having an idea of what's available before arriving. Once you order at the counter,they write your name on a dry erase laminate & they bring the food to you. Burgers do come dry, all condiments are at your table so you can add whatever you'd like! After a few more not so super visits I need to adjust my review. Lunch wait lines tend to be in excess of 20 to 35 minutes just to order ....for a heads up... not great if your looking for anything under a couple hours. With the lunch rush I've noticed overcooked burgers almost hard to eat. Their large fries will not feed two people. Tried the fish plate once and heavens not sure what fish it was but it was best I can describe as mushy and couldnt be finished. Ordered pies twice which weve been told are brought in by "the pie lady" however one coconut pie had a long black hair in it. Now they were very kind to comp us an additional pie. But.... cherry pie we ordered next.... hair in it!! No joke. Dont order the pie. Clearly the pie lady is unkempt and needs her kitchen/cooking practices looked at.
