My husband and I ate at Chiso's for the first time last night. It's a HUGE space, could be a great area for live music during dinner. Very brightly lit, casual pleasant atmosphere. Our server greeted us at our table almost instantly. My husband ordered the pulled pork tostadas. for our appetizer. The chips were crisp, the pulled pork was juicy. They were wonderful. Three was kind of an odd number of tostadas, I thought... but they were great regardless. My husband had the nuevo diablo (bacon wrapped shrimp in a cream sauce) and he said they were excellent. I was in the mood for a burger, so I ordered from the lunch menu. I asked the waiter if they could be cooked to order. He said it could, and I ordered it medium. I am SUPER picky about my burgers. When it came out it appeared to be medium or medium well to me. I hate to be "that" customer... but I did send it back because I like a little pink. When I did, the owner/manager came out and apologized. He even took the price of the burger off of out bill, which he didn't have to do! I certainly enjoyed the second burger. It was PERFECTLY cooked... and so juicy! The chillis were great. All in all it was a good experience. I'm sure we'll be going back to Chisos soon! read more

The food wasn't great and was overpriced. We had the chips & queso, pulled pork sandwich and green chili burger. The pulled pork was way too salty. It had a nice sauce, but just wasn't that good. The burger was over - cooked but edible. Fries were the best thing we had. The queso wasn't quite hot enough. The service was very good and friendly. The chicken fried steak was great, and I consider myself a purveyor of chicken fried steak. It was flavorful and had a bit of spice which I think came from the gravy. Very tasty entree, unlike other places in the Austin city limits that I have tried. The menu read like 'jalapeno-stuffed jalapenos in a jalapeno sauce topped with jalapeno cream and a jalapeno relish with a side of jalapenos'. No joke, most Mexican and even Thai restaurants have more non-spicy offerings. Fine for me, but not for the missus or the mother. If you don't like spicy hot food, you're better off any place else. But I'm not pinging them for the fire. My baby back ribs could used another 20 minutes of rendering to get that falling-off-the-bone tenderness. The jalapeno (of course) grit cake tasted strangely seafood-ish. A $2.50 side of broccoli was two small sprigs. Lobster bisque lacked any evident lobster, as the red beans lacked the sausage they were said to contain. And when we asked for dessert, we were informed they were closed (it was exactly 3 minutes past closing time). It wouldn't have taken much to ask if we wanted anything else before closing. Or to sell us a piece of lime pie at 10:03pm. But their priority wasn't our satisfaction; it was to get us out the door. read more

The decor is cool, and the back bar seems to be a good place to catch some football. The drink specials are good. Can't really screw up beer, but my wife ordered a Lemon Drip which was weak...all mix. The service was good. Only thing have to complain about was our app took too long to come out. I have eaten here twice. First time I ordered the Grass fed Green Chili Burger, when it came out it was in a plate of grease which made the buns soggy. Not sure if the patty was good cause it seemed to be drowned out by the grease and toppings. Fries were definitely weak. I guess some people like shoe string fries, but they were also crispy and burnt. I went back to for a second chance and had the Pulled Pork Sandwich. When it was brought out I was very disappointed. The bun was small and the serving of pulled pork was even smaller. I hate when I leave a place hungry after eating. The meat tasted like generic pulled pork from Sam's Club. The combination of the meat and bread was just dry all together and once again the weak fries. I would not recommend this place for lunch or dinner, but would probably hang out at the bar for happy hour or to watch some football. Why would you have a Frozen Deep Eddy Vodka machine that doesn't work. Not Once or twice have I been there and it was down but this is the 3rd time now. So tonight I was ok with it. I'll just order the Deep Eddy Vodka Grapefruit and Soda. Only to get one and then be told they are out of that. I was EXTREMELY disappointed as soon as we were seated next to the kitchen window. There were flies all over the kitchen window and flying around in the kitchen and at our table.... Not to mention the waitresses bracelet charm dipping into my daughters mustard and she didn't even offer to replace it. God Only knows where her bracelet has been.... We had to ask for another and it was apparently brought in the same container with same drip on the side. Yesterday I went to Chisos Grill at the Hill country Galleria. I ordered a steak diner at 12:30 PM. at 12:55 PM the waitress said sorry it's taking so long but you asked for it well done. Came by for a mid-afternoon snack after a day of shopping. Ordered and split a seafood platter and some truffled fries. The seafood platter was ok but the fries were mediocre. There was no difference between the "truffled" fries or the greasy potato sticks on the seafood platter plate. No seasoning. Disappointing food quality and portions. My entree salad was a week flat layer of spinach with about 1 chicken strip worth if chopped bland fried chicken. It resembled left over fried chicken that had been nuked. The salad was served on a flat plate, probably because if it were in a bowl you would notice that it was not full. The kids burgers were fine. The appetizers were way overpriced. No plain queso here. Service was friendly and attentive and interior decor nice. That's why they earn the stars. read more

Honestly the food is still awesome! I had the southwest salad with chicken. My friend had the lobster bisque which was also awesome. The low rating is for what my husband had for lunch....well actually what he DIDN'T have for lunch. He ordered a starter salad and the catfish basket. Salad came out in ample time but his basket never materialized. Our waitress, Amy, while initially attentive virtually disappeared after "our" food arrived. I had to signal her to come over to say "hey what happened to the catfish basket". She seem baffled. Said she go right away to put it in...well that would have been fine 20 minutes earlier when our other food came out but seeing how I was done as was our other companion. Of course we said to make sure it's not on the bill but no real apology...nothing...seriously disappointed. The restaurant is always clean and staff is usually on it if you go in on a Friday night. Any other night of the week you will get horrible service. My husband and I have been coming here for a year and a half, it's close to home and the food is usually really good; however it's really gone downhill. The wait staff isn't friendly, they never come to check on you, the food can take over 25 minutes to come out when there is only 5 other tables in the restaurant, and you can tell no one really cares. It's really sad to see a place that we once liked, turn to such a poor establishment. read more

I like the new place! Great job on the contemporary country vibe. And good music, too. Everyone was super nice - the hosts, server and the manager that stopped by. It does feel like neuter service. The food is the same as it was before the jump. Queso Was fantastic- creamy and flavorful without too many chunks. I stick to the fried chicken strips with a salad as a no-fail meal. We also got an entree chicken, which was good, but the green beans were way too salty. Overall, great food, great atmosphere and great people. For the amount of money I was charged I expect a much greater service and experience provided. First off: This place has some of the best queso I've ever had, but they served it with the crappiest store naught chips you can get. They served us ceviche, again very good flavor and delicious chips. Why make an amazing queso and serve it with low grade chips? I don't understand it at all. This place has great potential, but the manager is pretentiously polite and actually very condescending and snobby. If he'd pay attention to his customers maybe they'd have more business during Saturday's lunch rush. I will not go back again. The dining experience was very mediocre for the 4star restaurant prices I paid. They have much to learn in the service industry. Wayyy overpriced. Ridiculous. When you pay what was charged you have dreams of the place's ambiance and their delicious flavors. Not walk out trying to justify why your experience wasn't the best. We've been a handful of times and Chisos is such a nice change from the typical fare offered around Bee Cave. Tonight we went and had only appetizers for dinner which were half price before 7 pm. The queso with pork in it is so tasty and the peppers stuffed with goat cheese are so unique and so good. We also had tostadas topped with shredded pork and apple slaw. They were so good my husband ordered another round. The tortilla crusted chicken strips were also great! Our server (Serafano?) was outstanding. I'm pretty sure I had 6 glasses of tea in the 45 minutes we were there! read more

This was an all around bad experience from top to bottom. We arrived at 5:00 for dinner, so there were hardly any other tables seated. Yet it still took over an hour for our food to come out. Meanwhile we had to fill our own waters and take our own chip basket inside for refill. Our waitress seemed to just be hanging out in the kitchen. The food finally came and there were multiple mistakes and quality was overall very poor. I had to go inside and ask the hostess for the bill, because again our waitress was standing around in the kitchen. We regretfully paid the bill, which was significantly higher than it should have been given the quality and mistakes, and promised to never return. read more

My husband and I have been to Chisos Grill several times now. They have THE BEST cole slaw (made with apple and bacon) of any cole slaw I have ever tasted in several decades. We order it on every visit. Their sweet potato fries are delish - crispy on the outside and tender on the inside without any of the dryness you might associate with sweet potatoes. They don't need ketchup. We haven't tried the regular white fries. Today I had grilled salmon with field greens for $11 at lunch. The large portion of salmon was perfectly cooked, moist and flavorful They gave me complementary blue cheese crumbles at my request as well as the delicious vinaigrette dressing for the salad. Oh yes, they gave us two servings of complementary hot little corn muffins with garlic butter which served as our appetizer and were also very good. My husband had a large burger that was cooked perfectly. (Don't want any e coli sneaking in somehow. You reviewers who insist that your burgers are pink might think about that. You're probably too young to remember the infamous Jack-In-The-Box burgers.) Anyway, Chisos' burgers are probably perfectly safe cooked pink. We have had the lobster bisque in the past that was great - velvety with large chunks of lobster. I had the fried shrimp Caesar salad also in the past. I like my Caesar salad with wilted, limp Romaine and soaked in dressing - this one was much crisper, fresher, healthier but not as much to my liking. The shrimp were great, and there were a lot of them. I look forward to trying the crab cakes and pulled pork that previous reviewers have recommended. From the name, people might think this restaurant is standard New Mexico or Tex-Mex with chips, salsa and enchiladas. It is not. It does have a varied menu with a lot of gourmet seafood and meat plates, sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and all with a variety of prices, mostly very affordable. The service is great - they are happy to please their customers. I like the casual atmosphere and the spaciousness and the fact that you don't have to sit elbow to elbow with nearby diners.
