I haven't had their halo-halo in awhile but I loved it! I didn't know they had boba in it now so that was a lovely surprise. My mom insisted I tried the fried siomai and I'm glad I did! I love that it's crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Last but not least, get the buchi! if you're a red bean fan, then it's a real treat. They have a sign that says they're understaffed so service isn't fast, just keep that in mind. They're more mom & pop and less fast food but their service is great and everyone is really nice. read more

First time to go to Chowking. I was craving Halo Halo. I went first to Jolliebee but they told me they stopped making it. So I Yelped Chowking and I found out they have Halo Halo in their menu. The place is located next to seafood City Supermarket. There is inner door in between. The place is clean and organized,looks nice in general. The parking lot: Plenty of spots are available. The employees: Are very nice and friendly. I ordered the following: Siomai: 3.5/5 The taste was good but it was greasy Bola Bola 5/5 It was so good and I will go back for their Bola Bola Lumpia 5/5 I love it! It came with sauce. I enjoyed eating it with the sauce Halo Halo 5/5 Everything happens for a reason! I am glad that I went there because their Halo Halo was much better than Jollibee. Of course, I will go back again to try more from their menu, but first to buy what I enjoyed from my first visit! Actually my rating is 4.5 because of the grease at the bottom of siomai. Came in for a snack and just looking at the pictured menu on the wall looked very oily. I started to lose my appetite. The only thing that didn't look oily or greasy was their siopao. So I ordered 1 siopao, a black bean tea and a "halo-halo" The siopao didn't look like the one on the poster, maybe half the size lesser. Just look at my added pictures. The black bean tea was ok, nothing to talk about. Usually they add half of the drink with crushed ice. So it wasn't that ice cold. The halo-halo was terrible. The picture looked stuffed with a lot of choped fruits and other stuff, but no. It supposed to have white beans, black or red beans, banana cubes, jackfruit slices, kaong (palm fruit), Nata de Coco (cultured coconut jelo), ube icream and custard on top of the crushed ice with a squirt of milk or cream. BUT NO! It only had 2 mini cubes of banana, 4 white beans, and 2 black beans and something I couldn't even figure out what it was. They did put ube ice-cream and custard on top and this small glass charged me $6. I'll just stay home and make my own "halo-halo" lol! But because all of this filled me up, I'm giving them 2 stars. I wonder how good all these would taste without MSG? And to top all of this, they had no paper towels to wipe my mouth after washing all that grease off! For a quick fix, this place would be ok. To start off my wife and I tried similar type restaurants with a not so good result. The bola-bola would have very little filling and the Siomai was always dry. With Chowking we found our place the Bola-Bola had the right amount of filling and the bun was pillowy soft and slightly sweet....so good‼ the siomai was large and full of flavor. We also had the beef wonton soup it was so full of beefy goodness and the noodles were perfectly prepared the wonton was nice and big very tasteful the most serving was large for a regular order. Not bad! Filipino fast food without all the bells and whistles. They have dim sum, rice and noodle dishes, and desserts! There are also frozen siopao and siomai available. We came the Wednesday right before Thanksgiving and although there was a bit of a line and a sign that asked for customer's understanding since they're short staff, it was no problem! We went next door to pick up some pastries and when we came back our order was ready! We go the: Meaty Asado Siopao (6 pieces). -It comes perfectly steamy hot and comes with the siopao sauce (tastes just like the sauce that is already in the bao). -Exterior is nice, fluffy and a bit moist (not too soggy nor dry at all). -Inside the bao was seasoned pork. Tastes just like bbq pulled pork but less sweet than their American counterpart. -Big hit at the Friendsgiving! This was around $16, a bit pricey, but worth it for all bao lovers out there. This review is only for their halo halo, since I didn't try anything else. I love the combination of the shaved ice with condensed milk, jelly, pudding, boba, red beans, and ube ice cream. It was a nice texture of crunchy from the ice, chewy from the jelly, and creamy from the ice cream. I really enjoyed this dessert. They share a large parking lot with many businesses, but we found a spot pretty quickly. There was line when we came around 3:30pm on a Tuesday. read more

I was not a fan of the chow mein, and the fried chicken skin wasn't really good, so I ended up removing most of it. I got a 2 piece combo and added two extra pieces so I can share with my son. Chow mein, rice and the chicken. A sesame ball too. My chicken wasn't all that fresh. Kind of old. Horrible service today. I go here a lot, was just here for breakfast 2 days ago but today was by far the worst. First they ran out of chicken and said it would take 20 min so I ordered the popcorn chicken instead and a salt and pepper pork bowl. Left for 15 min came back and waited another 10 min and the cashier said it would be another 5 min because they had to make a fresh order. 30 min total passed I asked for a refund and all they could say was sorry (also by this time the fried chicken had been done). Came in on a hot summer day for some halo halo!!! I honestly did not know this place existed in the same plaza as Jollibee until my Filipino friends told me but I'm so glad I came here. Halo halo always tastes amazeballs; it's sweet on top from the ube ice cream and cut-up fruits, and everything is so creamy milky I clearly love it ! We went to try the two entree lauriat. I have quite a few comments about this meal. The Chinese-style chicken was delicious and crispy, and the inside tasted great. The noodles were average, as well as the lumpia. The lumpia was not crunchy, and it had a bit of a stale consistency. The location and ambiance of this place are pretty great. I am wondering why the restaurant still exists, the noodle I had there is the worst noodle I ever had. I went to Seafood Shop at West Covina for some special fish and seafood, the Filipino grocery store has something different than the Chinese one. I like stuffed fish, you know, the ground meat inside the fish. There is the only place I can get such stuffed fish. It's very ethnic Filipino food. The restaurant is just next door to the market, then I walked in. The restaurant has two Chinese characters on the name, which made me think it's a Chinese restaurant. I realized it's a Filipino restaurant once I saw the wording Asado Siopao on a panel. I walked in and ordered Beef Noodle Soup. The worst noodle soup I ever had. The broth was warm, broth is one of the most important key points of a noodle soup, it has to be hot. The warm broth was tasteless, looks like just water adds MSG. I was around this Filipino community center and started to crave for something I remeber eating growing up in the Philippines. The beef wonton soup was good especially in this cold weather. The Lauriat was..mehh. The fried chicken could be better, the breading was so thick that I have to scrape it off from the skin of the chicken for me to actually eat the meat. The beef black pepper was just okay. I wish I ordered something else. The girl who took our order was not pleasant at all, shes got a sarcastic tone while repeating our order. Sorry for this review. I was visiting west covina and knew about chowking, so i went. I bought 12 pieces of siopao asado. 6pcs frozen and 6pcs steamed. As i ask for extra siopao sauce in a nice way, the staff that's attending to me ask how many packed sauce i would like. So i replied "6 more packed please" suddenly raises his voice and said that they would charge $11 for the 6 more packed of sauce that i asked. Coz they are charging for extra sauces. So i replied never mind. He could just simply saying it in a nice way and not raising his voice. I felt embarrassed coz there are customers in line waiting. I could not imagine $11 for 6 packed of asado sauce. Its like $2 each. Its like the amount of a bottle of soy sauce. At the end, he gave me extra 2 packed of sauce and saying "this is the only time that he will give me an extra sauce, no more next time." For me, that is so bad customer service. Iam so disappointed. Never going back to this branch again. Thank you but NO thank you. I don't know if all branches of chowking are like this, but in this location/branch the staff i met was terrible. Take note to those buying siopao. They charge for extra sauce. So 1 siopao and 1 sauce only. Extra sauce will be charged. read more
