This is a really good Japanese BBQ spot with quality meats and a large variety of sides. I liked all the meats, but my favorite was marinated Skirt Steak. They have a bunch of sides like wagyu sandwiches, truffle fries (I would skip out on these), nigiri, and wagyu bimbimbap. The wagyu bimbimbap was the best side, it's really flavorful and the fat on the wagyu gives the rice a creamy texture. They also have these cute little ice creams for dessert by Neat Ice Cream. I tried the Cookies and Cream and the Ube flavor. Both were excellent, but I prefer the Ube. Service is also really great! They change out the grill often, and they come by frequently to ask if we want to order anything. It's kind of a small place, but you should have no trouble getting a spot if you get there when they open. Also, I appreciate that their fans work well, we surprisingly didn't smell like bbq after we ate. read more

I went during off hours before the dinner rush so there wasn't a wait. I loved how there were so many variety, including seafood and sushi compared to other kbbq or Japanese bbq ayce places ! We chose the middle menu option since it will had some Wagyu options. Everything was so tasty and fresh, and service was great too. Pleasantly surprised. Great service and food. Stopped by after lunch time, there was no line. A few minutes of wait as the staff was preparing the table. They ask which tier you will dine. There are Silver $55/person, Gold $75/person, and Diamond $85/person. Depending on the tier, there are special dish which are limited. Once seated, they hand you a tablet to order appetizers, meats, seafood, drinks and dessert items. Alcohol are not included in the meal, cost extra. The interior is modern but dated. The place is worn and not so clean, shows the place is popular and busy. A tad bit pricey but if you love meat, definitely better than AYCE Korean BBQ. The meat is better quality. However, if you are into seafood or sushi, go eat at Seafood buffet or AYCE sushi joint. I really enjoyed and worth the money. Only things I can nit pick about this place was two things, putting sauce on meats and seafood. The other thing was putting sesame seeds on the meats. I wish they do not put anything on the meats and seafood. That way, you can truly see if meat is fresh and of good quality and taste the true flavor. read more

First time here and making a reservation to beat the wait was definitely the move. The servers were also very attentive, especially with helping take our plates once we've finished. Food wise, the meat quality was very good and def worth price. Would probably skip out on the carpaccio or any of the hand rolls. Quality wasn't too great and would be a waste of space. The soups weren't that good either, the tom yum was super spicy and the kimchi stew was bland. Only side I enjoyed were prob the scallop with uni and the truffle fries. Sticking to only the meats next time. Overall, still really enjoyed my meal and would definitely be coming back. (I had the Gold tier and I think the cute box with smoke only comes with Diamond. They also have a strict time limit with timers once your time is up.) read more

Wow, finally a restaurant that truly lives up to its hype. One of the best Asian bbq/yakiniku experiences in terms of taste, quality, and variety. All the wagyu cuts were amazing and the sushi options were fresh as well- my favorite was the salmon. The service isn't outstanding but the amazing food makes up for it and the waiters were definitely trying their best. To my surprise we didn't have to wait too long when we just arrived at 6pm. I've been to Chubby Cattle in Monterey Park a few times, and while I used to enjoy the experience, today was a real letdown. We ordered from the Diamond Menu, like we always do, but this time the presentation was poor and the food quality just wasn't there. For a place that brands itself as premium hot pot, I expected a lot more especially considering the bill came out to $230 for what felt like mediocre food. One improvement is the service. They now use iPad tablets for ordering, which makes the process smoother and keeps things on a timer. That part worked well. Still, the overall experience didn't match the price tag. If the quality continues to go downhill, I'll have to take my appetite (and my wallet) elsewhere. read more

This place is worth the hype. It was a fight to get my parents to like any place, especially at this price point. Once they finally sat down though they were really impressed and said it was a great choice. The meat quality is so good and the variety is amazing. I am usually cautious about a place that serves sushi and other stuff but the nigiri here was pretty good. My faves besides the meat : steamed eggs - so smooth and flavorful Salad - the dressing was tasty Kimchi - I just really appreciated how finely cut it was The service is good and the selection is great, definitely worth the higher price point. The only thing I would change is that even with the vents so close to the grill, it's incredibly smoky in there. We don't run into that problem at Baekjeong so I hope they figure something out read more

I absolutely love this place!! We came across it one night trying to find a different all you can eat KBBQ (this is Japanese) since the usual franchises were becoming more and more disappointing. Oh man, did we discover a gem. We are hooked! This is our favorite go to dinner place!!! The service is always amazing & you can never go wrong with all you can eat Wagyu. I wanted to love this place -- I really did I've been hearing about this place for a long time and went recently but was overall a little underwhelmed. The wait was just under an hour and upon going in, we were presented with two menus: one that was in the $50s range and the other $80s. The selection was pretty straightforward, though it seemed they got rid of the lowest tier (which is different from the videos I was seeing online). After going in, the waiter was nice and offered to bring up one of their best items. I'd say my favorite was probably the wagyu beef tongue as it was thin and tender. There were a few cuts that I couldn't identify that were kind of tough (they just brought out like 8 plates without naming them so I had no clue what was what besides the obvious ones). The most surprising thing that I liked was the steamed egg -- it was warm and flavorful and honestly a nice respite from all the oily meats. The part that took me out though was the seafood. I tried the salmon carpaccio and other sushi items and it was all around bad -- looked a little dull in color and the taste felt very fishy/not fresh. On a chilly night, checked in ahead through Yelp coming from the valley, still had to wait 20 minutes, but it was worth it. This spot's smaller than the Rowland Heights one, but the vibe was solid. We went Gold Tier...everything came out fast, and the meat? Straight fire, top-tier quality. The server stayed on it, swapping grills like a pro. Scallops? Man, I crushed *four plates*. Wagyu sushi? I avoid leaving negative reviews nowadays, but in my opinion, Chubby Cattle is simply not good and definitely does not live up to all the 5-star reviews. I hope others can save their money. We got the Gold option. The "A5" wagyu is nothing special and like other reviews have stated, questionable in quality. I came here expecting A5 wagyu because I was craving the wagyu I had in Japan and I was so disappointed. Take a look at the attached pictures. The A5 Wagyu Ootoro slices are literally thinner and smaller than a piece of bacon. The A5 Wagyu Tender Meat has no marbling like real Japanese A5 Wagyu. It genuinely felt like a waste of money and I warned my friends and family not to come here. Additionally, I tried checking in on Yelp for the Ootoro nigiri and the employees told me that I had to write a review first in order to get the free Ootoro nigiri. I'm guessing that's the reason why Chubby Cattle has so many good reviews. I'm pretty sure Yelp flags restaurants if they're aware that they're incentivizing customers in exchange for good reviews. The servers were nice but they randomly came over and started taking over cooking halfway through the meal and then left and didn't try to cook the meats again after that. I was just confused because this isn't like Baekjeong where they cook your meats for you. In general, the meat quality was okay but definitely not worth paying double the price as any other AYCE place. Their appetizers that claim to contain Wagyu also just use cheap cuts of meat. Overall, I would keep your expectations low if you decide to come here. read more

Came in Thursday evening around 6:30 and were sat right away. Well lit, well ventilated. Music wasn't on when we arrived but came on around 7pm - nothing we couldn't talk or hear over. BELIEVE the hype, it's TRUE... Make sure you come with an empty stomach, your going to be eating nonstop. Parking is not too bad, depending what time you get here, theres a garage or side streets. The waiting game for a table could be an hour or longer. Be patient it's worth it. The hostess will show you a menu, basically two options to choose from. Now it's time for delicious quality meats with endless options on the menu. Not sure what up mean by "bor" if you're referring to the "bor" hop then I'm not sure if they carry IPA that use "bor" hops. I've always order a pitcher of Sapporo draft beer.

It took us waving the staff over in order to put in our order, and to get the check, but otherwise they were attentive and checked in regularly. We wrote our name on their waitlist, but we were seated soon after. The seats aren't too comfortable since space is tight. Their menu had a lot of customizations with katsu and curry. There were many protein choices. My boyfriend ordered their Menchi Katsu Curry ($20.25) and I ordered the Pork Loin Katsu Curry ($21.45).Both were marked as items Chef Recommends. While we were waiting for our food to come out, I noticed their chopsticks lists their other locations and most seem to be in areas with high Japanese footprint: Torrance, El Segundo, Gardena, Costa Mesa, and Los Angeles. The food was ready within a reasonable amount of time. In previous photos I saw and appreciated the grill they put the katsu on to maintain crispiness on the bottom, but they are no longer using that. The meal also came with a side salad, miso soup, and a few small sides. This is pretty typical of similar businesses. The dressing on this side salad was really bad though. As much as I wanted to eat the vegetables to be healthy, I didn't like it at all. Not taking points away cause it's an included item, but just including my observation. The rice was okay... a bit dry for my liking. The katsu itself was really crispy and crunchy for both of us. I can see how its' their specialty. For my porkloin I liked one side of it more than the other. The curry was okay, but I don't find it cravable... not like the curries that are so good I'll take it home to eat with more white rice. I barely dipped my katsu into the curry. If my boyfriend wants to come back, I might just order the katsu without the curry. A nice addition for this area, but I'm spoiled with having tried better curry katsu spots so I'm a little picky.
