This place is so hyped up and didn't meet our expectations. I wonder why people wait hours to eat here. I was so excited to take my husband here for his birthday. The portions are so little and thin. It's best not to come with a big party. The waiter we had a little attitude when we ordered double of the salmon. ( it's AYCE). So, just take the order vs. question it and have that ugly look on your face. You definitely don't get full, it's pricey, and they are so strict on time. They do give you free soju for your birthday. Overall, I polly wouldn't come back. There wasn't anything there worth coming back for, to be honest. Btw it's super hot in there. Visited Chubby Cattle on a weekday afternoon to avoid crowds and wait times. The restaurant was about half filled, the service was so quick and really enjoyed the experience. Ordered the top tier and I'll probably stick to that one as I enjoyed everything it came with. I appreciated being able to order the items via an iPad and the servers came right out with what I'd just ordered. They also time it and put a limit to how many items you can order at once which helps the process as well. We had the best Valentines Day here. We came right at opening and the wait was not too bad for Valentines Day. I've been here a few times before and am always happy with the quality of meat. I'm happy with the selection of sushi as we were both craving fresh sushi. We were super happy with the food and service. Everyone was really on it and super nice. They were quick to refill our cokes which always makes us very happy. We got ube ice cream for dessert, and before we left they asked us if we were a couple and took a Polaroid for us and gave me a rose! THE HIGHEST QUALITY AYCE BBQ that I've been to. There was nothing that wasn't mind-blowingly delicious. Customer service was efficient and left us wanting for not. Aesthetics are on point. No complaints except for the unavoidable, inevitable wait that comes with such a popular, trendy, delicious, high end yet affordable restaurant. Keep in mind that although they do use the Yelp waitlist, you cannot join the list from the app and have to do it in person and the front staff said to ignore what the app says and wait for their text message. Skip down if you want the food review, but the décor of this place is just so cool. The flaming field of katanas, the shadow of ninjas and samurai behind the "screen doors" and of course the giant cow battle boss with the HP bar just screams a story. I'm not going to lie it would be SO INSANELY cool if the cow was an animatronic that came down or emitted smoke or even if the HP bar changed and flashed throughout like a show. If you have a birthday here, you will get the biggest most hyped up bday celebration. There's this blonde employee with a different uniform and I s2g I think that dude is like the randomized event NPC for the restaurant, hyping up people's bday. Very funny and cool, loved his energy. We ended up ordering from the Gold Menu since we felt that it was the best bang of your buck with tasting the most of the menu without breaking the bank. Even before we started ordering our server had already ordered all of the premium, limited items where we'd only get 1 order of each. Glad that she knew and this is a GREAT practice to have since, at least for me, I'd immediately get those limited items too. Even from the start the banchan we got were of the highest quality and super fresh. I've never had a sesame cold tofu before but it was unique and a great start to our meal. I usually see the "nicer" AYCE BBQ places provide onion to help oil up the grill and flavor the meat, but this was the first time I've seen them offer fat for customers to do so. This added to the flavor of everything we grilled and was a very nice touch. Additionally, I LOVED how everything you order is served to you in reasonable amounts and not an overwhelming plate where you would tap out eating immediately. At first I was a bit disappointed (and scared) that they didn't do half orders here but there is absolutely not reason to do so since everything is portioned thoughtfully. For the Gold Menu, the limited stock, 1 order per person premium items were the: Premium A5 tender meat, scallop, and wagyu uni nigiri. The scallops were sauced up and were grilled on their shell and the wagyu uni nigiri was melt in your mouth creamy deliciousness. One of our table's favs for sure. Extremely tender wagyu meat with the creamy, butteriness of the high quality uni was to die for. For the Gold Menu items that are not on the Silver Menu, we had: 1. All of the M9 Meats (top blade, sirloin steak, and rib finger): everything was good, but the rib finger was another table favorite. 2. All of the Nigiri (wagyu, salmon, tuna): the salmon and tuna nigiri had melt in your mouth sliced fish with the perfect rice to fish ratio. Something that so many AYCE sushi places can't really nail, so this is amazing for a BBQ place and I would have definitely ordered more if I wasn't focusing more on meat! They also have shrimp tempura on the Gold appetizer menu, but we didn't order that. For the rest of the menu that's offered on the Silver Menu as well, we ordered: 1. All of the Meats except for the Chicken Wing: The beef tongue came pre-seasoned and with a slice of lemon, roasted sausage had a nice peppery taste to it, and the brisket and pork belly are to die for when allowed to be cooked to a crisp. 2. Beef Tartare: pretty good! The pieces are bite sized too so you don't have to worry about getting full on this. 3. Corn Cheese: You cook this on your grill and it is definitely more liquid and mayo based than cheese based but reminds me of elote and you can NOT go wrong with that. 4. Wagyu Soup: ALSO not a huge portion and there's not too much in the soup either just a bit of wagyu, potato, and carrot. Honestly tastes like a good pho broth and this is good if you need a semi-palate cleanser that isn't as filling as ordering another round of meat. 5. Steamed Egg: MOST AESTHETICALLY PLEASING AND TASTIEST STEAMED EGG I'VE HAD IN MY LIFE. The consistency is like the silkiest flan out there. I have never seen a steamed egg like this before and it was so good that I inhaled it despite being so full. There's also mushroom, shrimp, and bonito flakes on top too. This is another one of my musts for a future visit. At the end of your meal you get a premium ice cream bar and we got the mung bean one and the mango one (so fancy it had its own frame so it doesn't lose its shape inside). I love love love Mikiya so of course even with a 2hr wait I had to try Chubby Cattle and honestly I'm glad we went. Probably won't be back but we will always be loyal to Mikiya! We opted for the Diamond and there were a few things that were super yummy so when we were hoping to order another round, we were disappointed to find out that unlike Mikiya's Holiday Set where you aren't limited, everything we loved here weren't allowed to be reordered. Super sad!!! Hopefully they can maybe add an additional premium level where you aren't restricted!!! Separately the service is kinda slow as well. Some of the food that we had ordered never came before we were handed the bill. My experience on July 4th Yes they are opened on Independence Day and I arrived there at 10:40am and was the first in line. I just sat at the front entrance patio chairs. Slowly as the time came close more people arrived waiting behind me. Once they opened the doors my family came just in time so we got seated right away. Before they sat us they ask which tier we wanted. We chose the diamond tier 88$ and she gave us the diamond tier menus. Once we got seated they brought us all the limited items all out the first round (that's their policy). Appetizers that wowed us was salmon sashimi, steamed egg, sesame tofu and all the pickled sides their creamed cheese corn was amazing I was so surprised how good it was I love that their corn is the American sweet corn not the carby corn. The waygu sandwhich was way too burnt and the fries was not good at all the sauce they put was too sweet and thick for me. I was really craving for fries so I had them get me plain fries. I also order the beef tartare really fresh but I didn't think the thick cracker was the best combo. The cheese sweet potato was not bad but I rather have it pain then with cheese didn't really go well with it. We also have included drinks but it was kinda disappointing that they were all out of the unique fruit sodas. All the meats were really nice and fresh, well marbled as well. We try to avoid all the cube meats since majority of them were just cubes of fat. Our favorite was the short rib. Their marinated lamb was surprisingly really tasty it was super tender and had a cumin spice flavor which was a nice touch. The scallop was amazing as well. Of course all the limited items that is only available for one round is amazing. Make sure to order the raw egg dipping sauce we couldn't get enough we used it on everything we had to ask for more! I love how they also put some lemons to pair up for some meats and seafood. And lastly the icecream that was included was super cute they had mango, melon and corn shaped popsicles for you to choose. Came here Friday at 4:30 with a part of five adults and two toddlers and got a table right away. We were seated in a booth with not much wiggle room or table space but they were very good and fast about removing empty plates and trays. We opted for the gold menu and they tried to limit us to five orders (appetizers and meat) per round which was a bit annoying since some meat trays came with four thin slices. They're also strict on time for table turnover which is understandable. AYCE but the limited stock items are only one order per person which they ask you to start off with first. Favorites were the salmon nigiri, scallop, A5 tender meat, top blade, short rib, Wagyu skirt steak, salmon carpaccio, steam egg (silky smooth). Wagyu nigiri was okay and good to try once. After getting in anything less than a wow is underwhelming. Presentation os cool with the box. I would just like to enjoy the food more than the way it looks. Quality isn't bad for AYCE but the $88 Wagyu can be ordered once which is plenty. They also have lobster tail and other luxury items. At then end of the meal it's smoke filled bc of poor ventilation and gluttony. Service was good they're always around to attend to you. I must say this is one of the BEST AYCE restaurants I've ever been to....hands down!!! Not only do they serve superb, mouth savory food, but they also provide the upmost, best service. Super attentive and the meats selection are highly satisfying....especially the A5 Wagyu Ootoro and A4 Short Rib. They melt in your mouth at first bite....so soft, buttery, and just so damn delicious!! We opted for the most expensive Diamond Tier and it was the best decision. It's definitely worth the price of $88 (non-members). It comes with the wagyu box which is perfect for post-worthy images and video clips and unlimited beer and soft drinks. If you join their membership ($28/year for party of 2), it'll be $78 per person. Plus you get a free meal on your exact birthday as a member. So we signed up for it since we will certainly come back here. They're pretty small and smokey inside, but the food and service makes up for the imperfect atmosphere. They even have good music playing in the background when it's near closing time. They also do a special cheer for your birthday. They're located next to Tea Brick & Mama Lu's off Ynez Ave. and Garvey Ave. There's parking on the streets or in their underground parking structure. If you come by on the weekdays, there's a much shorter wait time. If your full party is here, you can get seated right away. There is a limit of 6 items per order and there is a 6 minute cooldown per order. At first we feel like it's a very slow because of the time limit but the waitresses are kind enough to order on our behalf to skip the cooldown! This was probably the most chaotic AYCE JBBQ experience and not in a good way. We arrived here on a Monday before 6:00PM. They had Yelp waitlist and that quoted us about 45 minutes to an hour which we were comfortable waiting however we didn't end up being seated until 8:30PM. I'll leave it there. The ambiance inside was chaotic - it felt like a dirty night club. There was smoke everywhere and it was blaring music. I was barely able to hear my waitress. The cuts of meat were also so thin that it dissolved directly in the BBQ grill and don't get me started in the poor ventilation (I woke up the next day super foggy). We settled for the gold option. You can definitely taste the quality of certain cuts but nothing mind blowing I honestly can't recall what my favorite item was. The default sauces and sides were either bland if not too saucy. I felt like was eating to eat and not necessarily enjoying the meal as a whole. The appetizers/sides were all mediocre - basically every item advertised as "wagyu". The "wagyu" sandwich was basically a cheeseburger with sandwich slices and Kraft cheese. The "wagyu" fries were questionable because it was also just a slice of Kraft cheese and a sweet and sour sauce. Service was efficient since we got our food on time and they were quick to take our plates however wouldn't describe it as anything stellar. I was especially excited to try out this high-end Japanese bbq spot, but unfortunately the experience did not live up to my expectations. There is free basement parking which can be accessed in the lot behind the restaurant entrance. The restaurant itself was actually smaller than I expected. We got a nice little corner spot, but the temperature in there was HOT! It definitely isn't surprising considering the charcoal style grill but it was unbearably hot. We had to keep switching off to take our daughter outside - it was a hot day but still felt cooler outside than in the restaurant. The bathrooms were also super cold so that was a nice relief when we needed to step away for a break. There are two menus, and we opted for the Gold one which is $59/person, the cheaper of the two options. It still had plenty of great choices although I was bummed we didn't get the famous box of high quality meats. I assume that one comes with the more expensive menu only. The servers leave you with a tablet to place orders yourself, which is nice so you can order at your leisure. I didn't see nigiri options on there. I wish we had tried more but it was just so hot I wanted to finish the meal already. Some of my favorite items were the spicy cucumber, pickled radish, salmon carpaccio, and the Wagyu beef tongue. I'm not typically a fan of beef tongue but that one was super tender and I liked the pickled wasabi and lemon that came with it. I was excited about the Wagyu sandwich but they came out very tiny and extremely dry. The other beef options were good as well, but again I couldn't really focus or pay attention on what was what because of the heat. The servers weren't exactly friendly and didn't speak loud when they dropped off items so I didn't have any idea what things were half the time. At one point the fire was uncontrollably large and we had to yell to flag someone to finally come over. They acted like it was our fault when they didn't explain the grill process to begin with, and only then told us to keep fattier pieces on the outside area. Overall we definitely didn't get our moneys worth, it was just too uncomfortable to stay any longer. I highly recommend this spot. Our waiter, Jimmy, provided some of the best service I've ever experienced--friendly, attentive, and respectful, and it was clear he loves his job. One thing I wish the restaurant does is simply put a list out front and people can just add their names and go back to their car or sit under some shade and wait, rather than wait in line cause it's starting to get hot here in SoCal! The food here is so amazing! It's an AYCE restaurant but seriously if you get the top tier (different tiers of sets you can eat from) you get to taste a bit of all the Wagyu and then after that, order whatever you'd like off the menu. The sauces that come with the meal is perfect. You get ponzu, yakiniku sauce, and a salt type of seasoning. The appetizers were all the perfect size to split amongst four people in our group so we got to try a bit of everything and everything was delicious! Items with the word "limited stock" underneath it on the menu simply means you only get one of that item for your visit so keep that in mind. The decor in the restaurant is pretty cool and really goes with the music they play (think, Asian dance club). It is a bit loud so if you're going to be on a date and don't wanna talk much, this is the best place! Diamond level AYCE is $88 per person and $44 per 5 years old kid. You get the box of wagyu with dry ice automatically ordered for you when you sit down. The presentation was nice but the taste of the meats were subpar. The meat tasted as if it was washed down. The appetizer sushi has the worst wet texture rice. The sashimi shrimp again tasted water down and no shrimp flavor. The "wagyu" sandwich was super dry. The wagyu fries was submerged in ketchup like sauce and cheese which made the fries soggy. The cheese corn was unpleasantly sweet as if sugar was added. The service was decent. Nothing special or bad. We got what we needed. You do get beer but alcohol is not our thing and we prefer to have high quality food. I can get much better quality meat at iWagyu for the same price or less! And I don't feel like I'm stuffing myself with meats I don't wanna eat. IWagyu also have smokeless grills! The worst part of the restaurant the ventilation! NO HOT POT AT THIS LOCATION! [Parking]: Limited free onsite parking spots, but plenty of available street parking spots available. [Amenities]: Our party signed in at 4:15 PM on Sunday and got a table within 15 minutes. Free lemonade and unsweetened iced tea located at the front entrance. All customers will need to cook themselves and the staff here only brings meats/side dishes as well as changing grills upon request. Time limited to 90 minutes for each table (last call will be at 70 minutes). Everyone in the party MUST order the same tier of the menu. Leftovers will be charged 20% of the entire bills with no leftover food to-go. Limit of six meats order per round. [Service]: Our table only had one grill change and the staff missed several of our orders. In addition, one of servers kept taking away my spoon together with empty plates so I actually had to get two rounds of brand new utensils with spoons. Members are allowed to resell their NFTs if they choose to do so. *** $88 Diamond *** [Wagyu Box with Japanese A5 Wagyu Tasting and other limited stock items]: One of our servers said that they will bring out all limited stock items first. Then after 5 minutes the staff brought and opened this fancy wooden box with an impressive Wagyu meat presentation. Next our table received lobster tails (we completely charred shells of lobster tail), raw oysters (to my surprise it tasted very spicy). Japanese A5 Wagyu chuck eye (with a certification of authenticity), Ootoro nigiri (very tender tuna but sauce was a bit overwhelming), wagyu uni nigiri (tasted alright), and finally sweet shrimps (someone from our table kept asking whether they were cooked - the staff saw us cooking and said these sweet shrimps are ready to eat and no need to cook). [Appetizers]: Few positive highlights include sesame tofu, steamed egg (it had bonito flakes with a little bit of soy sauce), and Wagyu soup (definitely the best appetizer of the night - very savory soup). Unfortunately salmon carpaccio & Wagyu sandwich were alright and miso soup was sub-par. The meal ended with a Chinese-brand mango popsicle. *** Overall I really think the restaurant should offer complimentary cooking by the staff on limited stock items because not all customers understand how to cook expensive items such as raw Wagyu steak and lobster tails.
