Came here for dinner and we had a great time! The interior of the omakase is a bit more intimate, and the chefs here are very friendly and fun to talk to, making for a warm and comfortable dining experience. I got their 18 course omakase and thought that it was great. I really enjoyed their first couple of courses and appreciated how they had a lot of more "appetizer-like" and unique courses, rather than just nigiri. I did think their rice ratio was a bit much, so I had to ask them to decrease it but it was still good! Good fish quality and innovative dishes. I enjoyed this~

There are way too many cheap and bad omakase spots popping up in NYC so I decided to check out Shinpi Omakase instead. For $169, the 15-course experience is amazing. They use premium ingredients like creamy Hokkaido Uni, O Toro with Caviar and Gold Foil, Wagyu, and much more. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxing, and the chef's meticulous attention makes for a very unique menu. Great balance of flavors and textures. So much better than the super cheap spots!

Service was friendly with one chef being more social and fun, which helped create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that definitely helped elevate the dining experience! Seats were spaced appropriately so it had a nice and comfortable arrangement! Now let's talk about the Omakase selection: We unfortunately did not think that the quality matched its price tag. We opted for the most expensive selection and the total bill was 430 after tips for two people without any drinks. The appetizer selection was subpar unfortunately, especially the ones that incorporated the sea urchin. I love uni and have had many different types and differing freshness. However, the uni that accompanied the appetizer was not fresh since it left a bitter and not sweet aftertaste. The individual selection of fishes were mostly fresh, but nothing that left a "WOW" factor. Although the special grade uni was delicious, it was only available for two pieces with the rest of them just mediocre. The whole experience was fun and the gold glitter spray was definitely entertaining, gimmicky, and Instagram worthy; the chefs were sweet and the birthday celebrations were exciting and enhanced the dining experience as well, which was great! However, I do have high hopes for Shinpi Omakase because I know with some minor modifications, they can definitely elevate the quality of their selection to better match the price point they are aiming for. Overall the highlight was just the two special uni pieces and one wagyu piece out of the total 17-18 that stood out. I really hope nothing but the best for Shinpi and I hope for a chance to come back to see them become as phenomenal as I know they can be! Thank you for reading and best of luck! (:

My boyfriend booked Shinpi Omakase for our anniversary dinner, and it truly exceeded our expectations. This intimate, almost hidden gem is a very private restaurant with only 10 seats, offering an exclusive dining experience. Having been to many omakase spots, this one easily ranks among my favorites. Every fish and dish was prepared fresh, which is essential for me as I'm quite particular about the quality of the seafood. I could tell that every ingredient was exceptionally handled with care. The service and ambiance were immaculate, and the menu was a mix of unique and classic omakase dishes which I really enjoyed. At the end, the chef even prepared a complimentary heart uni box for Valentine's Day, which was incredibly sweet! If you're looking for an unforgettable and intimate dining experience in New York, I highly recommend Shinpi Omakase.

This was a great omakase experience. Very limited seating so you'll need to book the reservation well in advance. The quality of the fishes are great and who I believe is the head chef, Eric, is very interactive with his guests. He takes feedback seriously, which is what you want to see in an establishment. A 15 course is $150, which is what we opted for. There's also a premium 18 course which goes for $170. Each piece was fresh and sliced fairly thick right in front of you. The added garnishing or droplets of sauce really enhances the overall experience. There is one instance where the chefs will ask you to hold your hand up in a fist and they will put a piece of otoro nigiri right on top of your fist. They will then spray some liquid gold for the effect before asking you to consume it off of your fist. Very IG worthy alright. At one instance the lights turned off and Eric played dumb and asked "who turned off the lights?" in order to light some sparklers to celebrate a guests birthday. Eric even took shots of sake with everyone at the end of the experience. Everyone was for sure more loose and friendlier towards the end compared to being quiet and tight in the beginning.

Great omakase experience! The restaurant has very limited seating, so make sure to make a reservation. The atmosphere inside is very relaxing and peaceful. I tried the 15 course omakase, and I was blown away by the freshness and diversity of the options. They did a great job utilizing uni in several of the courses such as the oyster appetizer. The king salmon was definitely my favorite piece. Very fresh and tasty. Overall, I had a great time at Shinpi Omakase. The service was great and the experience was intimate. I can't wait to come back in the future!

We went to Shinpi to celebrate an anniversary. Eric, the sushi chef, was very knowledgeable and fun to talk to throughout our dinner. We chose the 15 course menu, although the 15 course menu plus up to 20 pieces of uni was a tempting option. Some of our favorites included the oyster with uni and roe, the gold dusted Wagyu, king salmon, and Wagyu with uni. The staff recommended a bottle of sake to accompany our meal that was perfect according to our preferences. They celebrated our anniversary with a dessert and a special nostalgic song. I'll save the song title as a surprise for anyone going in to celebrate a special occasion. We look forward to dining here again in the near future.

Great experience! Love the vibe. It isn't a place that really ayce. It's up to 20 pieces of uni. They do charge extra if you don't finish.

Started with oyster and end with all you can eat Uni. Lovely.

All fantastic. This is my 5th time here, it continues to be surprising fantastic dishes and end with all you can eat uni. I am coming back.

Experience the artistry of Omakase @shinpi_omakase , where each bite is a masterpiece. The expert chef, Eric @j.survolt crafted a curated selection of seasonal, hand-picked ingredients, served with precision and passion. Each one of them just melted in my mouth. Everything is so fresh and flavorful including the Uni that came directly from Japan. This is one of the best Omakase I have ever had. An unforgettable culinary journey, one dish at a time. Literally the best omakase we have ever had, in the U.S. and Japan! We got the 18 piece version and were blown away by the highest quality ingredients, often innovatively combined, with superb and friendly service and chef in an intimate atmosphere. Standouts included: 1) a superbly fresh Kumamoto oyster with Hokkaido Uni and ikura; tasted like the ocean, a perfect flavor mix; 2) toro with caviar sprayed with gold powder from a perfume-type bottle; 3) a unique summer special of mango, cold scallop, cucumber and Thai spicy foam; 4) an add on A5 Wagyu and uni hand roll; 5) fresh Hokkaido crab with lemon finger zest; 6) Uni nigiri with shaved truffle. The setting is an intimate sushi bar, no more than 10 people in the restaurant with two extremely solicitous servers, and the manager as well as chef ensuring plenty of personalized attention. Relaxing music and a full moon projection on the wall. We felt totally welcomed and at home with the engaging staff, who even offered complimentary sake. And there was a 5 percent discount for the summer season. Quite full at the end and deeply satisfied by food quality, innovation, touches of luxury at every step, perfect service. Will definitely be back!

We decided we wanted omakase about 20 minutes prior on a Thursday evening and set off to locate some. We walked into Shinpi around 9:15pm and they sat us in the middle of the bar. It feels like a private chefs table. Dare I say this was within my top 3 omakase's I've had in the city. The attention to detail combined with the THICK cuts of fish-- absolutely the thickest I've ever received. Every course was delicious down to the double skim dessert. The chef was engaging and even let us try some of his special sake. Will definitely be recommending this to my fellow omakase enthusiasts.

Shinpi Omakase does not disappoint, from the service to the food. Their menu changes seasonally and they have a daily special based on the type of fish they can get so you know it's fresh. Yes, the price is kind of high but it is worth it. You are paying for the experience because Chef Eric is so sweet and you can tell he puts so much effort into his craft. I've been here twice now and I can say I loved every piece. What sets Shinpi apart is some of their ingredients that I don't normally see at other omakase places. For example, this time I had a unique king crab. Their uni is also the best I've ever had, super creamy and sweet. If you are looking to splurge and treat yourself or a special someone, Shinpi is the place to do so! If you follow them on instagram, they sometimes have deals such as buy one get one half off.

To drink, I had a Hot Organic Super Matcha Tea for 4.95. It was alright tea, and I wish teas were included in the price point, as otherwise, this place feels pretty traditional. In terms of food, I only ordered from the seasonal menu, so I'm not sure how the rest of the dishes are, but from what I had, I would go back for a light traditional meal. My appetizer was the Dashimaki Tamago/だし巻まき卵たま, or sweet savory omelet with daikon for $6.98. This came with three pieces along with a little dollop of grated radish. The pieces had a light sweetness to them along with a bit of savoriness. They were juicy and a bit bouncy while maintaining some softness. This was standard and good. My main dish was the $19.98 Beef Tan Tan Udon, or ground sirloin beef, spicy broth, baby bok choy, kikurage mushroom, scallions, and sesame seeds. While I have preferred udon from spots like Raku, the udon had a mild chew to it, and they were still good. The broth had a mix of sweetness and spiciness with a nice depth of flavor. The vegetables inside tasted fresh, and the meat added some richness. This was good as well. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to go here, but the food was good. If you're in the area and looking for no frills Japanese dining in a more comfortable atmosphere at pretty decent Midtown East prices, I would recommend this place.

Very cozy restaurant and the staff were attentive and friendly. Luckily their service is very fast so my family and I didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for a table in the back. I really enjoyed their niku udon. The broth was flavorful but not too salty. The menu offered a variety of options, all reasonably priced between $10-20, ensuring great value for the quality provided. I would come back to Tensai for some comforting Japanese udon noodles!
