We went during Friday afternoon lunch. The selection was okay. A lot of starchy dishes, breads, potatoes, stuffing. We use to frequent Chuck-a-Rama as a youngster, towed along by our grandparents. It's no better or worse since then. When Golden Corral came to town, we started to patronize them. Their selection was wider, and the food seemed a bit more savory. For a buffet, Chuck-a-Rama is a good choice. Always clean, and fresh. Foods are more on the bland side, however it seems to appeal to the senior crowd. My wife said the fried chicken was good. This was a fairly interesting place. I do agree with other reviews that state the atmosphere of Chuck-A-Rama is better than other buffet chains. It was clean, and the service was pretty friendly. I didn't find a lot of protein choices for a main course, but I did like the fish, which the waitress said was cod yesterday, a Sunday evening. I also liked the salad bar selection; everything seemed quite fresh. There were lots of salad dressing options, though I didn't understand why there was cocktail sauce out since I didn't see any shrimp. I thought the "scones" were a bit like beignets, but doughier. I didn't have honey with mine, but I think it would have been better with the added sweetness. I did try the funeral potatoes, which I think have corn flakes on top, and wasn't blowy away by them--they seemed like something someone might bring to a church potluck. There were quite a few desserts, but I think I actually liked the rice krispy treats best. I wasn't hungry by the time I got to the dessert course; so, I didn't try a variety of the cakes because the pieces looked too big for me to finish and I don't like wasting food, even at an all you can eat buffet. read more

I have eaten at Chuck-a-rama many times, I think that they are great for what they are. By all means this is not fine dining. if you are expecting great service and great food. you are in the wrong place. That being said, I think that 90% of the food at Chuck A Rama particularly this location is very delicious. they have hundreds of drink options, which are included in the price. if you go to buffet restaurants frequently, you will know that this is not common these days. the service here is also good if not spectacular. while this location of chuck-a-rama is not the cleanest place I have ever been in my life, it is far cleaner than most buffet restaurants. I don't want to bash anyone else specifically but there are many buffets in and around Salt Lake City that I would not send my worst enemies to because I would be afraid of them dying from food poisoning. & I don't want that on my conscience. overall I like going to this restaurant I would recommend it to others and I will go again. read more

I love Chuck-a-rama even though it does not fit well into my low-carb diet. I indulge here for lunch or an early dinner on special occasions. The price is right. It's a great place for a group because each person pays for him/herself and there's no check-splitting or hurt feelings. I've only been to this Chuck-a-rama branch so I'm not sure how it compares to other branches, but I find their food to be fresh and the dining room is clean and well-maintained. The servers refill my drinks and are very courteous about removing my used plates. One thing I especially like is that the drinks are included in the price of the buffet. They have theme days, so you better watch your options online before you go. The place has enough seating to host huge groups, they have senior citizen discounts, and lunch prices are a bit cheaper than dinner, but they do not take part of the blessed theme of the day. As far as meats, they have roast beef, ham, and turkey. If you are looking for an all you can eat with lots of meats I would recommend the brazilian choices like tucanos or rodizzio or the "mighty" texas de brazil. I'm not from Utah. But I love the snow there and we make an annual trip. For the first three years, we ate at Chuck-A-Rama on Sunday nights because nobody else was open. It was okay, the food was mediocre, but it was an experience and we made it a tradition. This year, we just grilled at our rental and it was sooo much better! So, the moral is: If you're in Salt Lake City, and you can't find a decent place to eat on a Sunday night, grill or cook at home. If you can't do THAT, then there's always Chuck-A-Rama. I went here with my bf and his family. We were in town for an unfortunate event, a funeral, but came to Chuck-A-Rama Buffet for an experience. Since I was the new one to town they said I had to come here. The food was mediocre, but I wouldn't mind coming back. Compared to restaurants in San Diego, it was like a Hometown Buffet. It was smaller but pretty much the same ordeal. The crispy fish, fried chicken, mixed salad, mashed potatoes that I recall were amongst my favorite dishes. Also, the corn bread, pastries, and brownies were delicious. For drinks, they have this Apple Beer (contains no alcohol) was different but tasty! The servers are absolutely nice and always bearing a smile. It definitely was a great experience here and I wouldn't mind taking friends here if I am back in town! read more

My family is big on Chuck a Rama. I am not a big fan of all you can eat places. But I usually find plenty to eat at their salad bar. We ate at this location last week. The place was clean and the service was good. There was plenty of seating and it was sectioned off well. The salad bar is OK, plenty of choices. My Caesar salad was bland...it had freshly grated Parmesan, but the dressing was really lacking. Really appreciated the fresh fruit and spinach. The poppy seed dressing was really good. There are plenty of choices of entrees. My favorite was the chicken stuffing. My BBQ pork ribs were pretty good, with fresh peppers and onions in the sauce. I found the rest to be bland. Alright, this was were I took my two teen boys to fill them up. When I think of a buffet, I'm thinking of all types of food for the main course, sides and dessert. This place, however, serves a primary protein main course and then a few "sides" which can be considered a main course (both the night we went being chicken). The rest is two salad type bars and a couple "sides" bars. Not the range of selection I would have liked to have seen. Although, they did have a range of drinks to pick from and desserts to pick from. I did enjoy the ham main course, one of the chicken sides and plenty of the other side items. The roast beef was decent as well. The turkey was ... well, plain turkey. The mashed potatoes and gravy was good as well. Our waiter was ok, got us a couple drinks, cleared the table. Place was clean. Food wasn't overly starchy. If you're looking for what they are serving, this is a perfect place to go to - if you're looking for a lot of choices on what to eat, and don't like their main course - try another buffet. This is one of my favourite places in SLC to eat. Wouldn`t come here to search for best quality taste(to all foodies), it is more of like fun times with friends and tons of decent food on the table. Plus, their dessert were tasty. It`s a great dinner-out option in the city. My only complain is that they close pretty early. Understand that my five stars is for the category. Up-Chuck-A-Rama really is head and shoulders above other buffet chains like Old Country or Ryan's. Great place for family reunions. I eat there at least once every three years (at family reunions). As with all decent smorgasbords, your key is to keep your plates small, with only a couple of bites of any one item if practical. Relax. Don't stuff your face. Sample things. If something is especially good then have another bite of that. But for heaven's sake, STOP when you are satisfied. That is crucial in any meal but most important when you are in an all-you-can-eat place. Once you are satisfied, anything more is just punishment even if it's great Pennsylvania Dutch fare at Shady Maple Smorgasbord (legendary weekend breakfast buffet) or salt-roasted meats at Fogo de Chão (awesome everything). Shady Maple is an Amish Country legend and any Brazilian churrascaria with sufficient quality will shame the ol' Chuck-A-Rama. But those are special occasion places. If you don't live in Vegas, Utah is a pretty good spot for anytime dining out on a budget. As long as your taste for gourmet cooking ends at scones (fry bread). Everything is strictly comfort fare. And they're pretty good at it. Don't take the all-you-can-eat thing seriously or you will hate this place. read more

They always have fries, fried chicken, pizza, & only a few other options, maybe Turkey & Ham but never steak or quality meat like Golden Coral has. Chuck a Rama is a buffet similar to Golden Corral with a more limited menu, but very much better food and more clean. It is American comfort food, with daily specials to bring in variety. They seem much more in control of the behaviors of the patrons than most places. You know how gross it is to have strangers touching the food. The other day though I saw a patron touch the carved meats to indicate which he wanted instead of saying which ones. He actually touched the beef the lady was carving. The employee told him not to, but when he complained the manager got after her "The customer is always right". Eeeew yuck So if you see something like that happen tell the manager. They need to realize that others see that and appreciate the employees who try to stop it. All in all they seem really clean and a safe place to eat, help them keep it that way and enjoy. I never been to this location, but i did enjoy eating at the one in south jordan. It was the best salad bar EVER! It was so fresh and clean. The staff looked clean and busy and pleasent. If I am eating buffet in Salt Lake City, I come here 4 out of 5 visits. I think free drinks makes sense (drink more, eat less), which I hate to do. Can't complain about the taste, its ok, and keeps me returning. My absolute favorite combination was found only here, slice of Lemon cake, slice of blueberry pie, and vanilla ice cream. Each tastes good alone, but together I craved the flavor, wow!!! Parking is a bit crowded, popularity draws in the customers, so get a little exercise before and after your meal. This place has been around for as long as I remember and I'm 66 years old. I just moved back to Salt Lake after 17 years in Las Vegas(where there was no Chuck-A-Rama Buffet) but there are tons of other buffets. My meal was good, regular American high calorie, high fat food. I love cafeteria food. Chuck A Rama has great cafeteria style, All American favorites. Except on Tuesday nights when they serve Chinese food. I'm not a big fan of buffets especially if its not Las Vegas. Here at Chuck-A-Rama, their 50 year history shows. The food during lunch was super hot and fresh. Everytime I went up to get food, I see the workers replenishing items with a new and fresh batch. The carrot is awesome, I heard they grate the carrots themselves. Fried chicken had a nice thin batter and extra crispy skin. $9.95 for a fresh lunch buffet cannot be beat. read more
