I just had a very disappointing meal at Chucks. Salmon portion from the full priced main menu was extremely small and over seasoned. The mushroom risotto that came with the salmon was mushy and lacked flavor. I didn't find the meal either appetizing or good value for money. Our server was very attentive. I was also surprised that, even though the restaurant was taken over some time ago, there doesn't appear to have been any freshening of the decor. My uncles husband insisted on taking my husband and myself out for a steak dinner, and wanted to go to Chuck's. We hadn't been there since their re-opening, so we were looking forward to it. Upon entering, the manager greeted us by saying Merry Christmas, and asked if we had a reservation, we did not, but he said it was no problem. Our uncle had recently had a hip replacement, and asked where we would be seated, (I'm assuming he asked because he was still having difficulty walking, and might have wanted to ask for a close table.) The manager replied, "you'll sit where I put you." Okay, we chose to take it as a bit of humor, and we wound up sitting close to the entrance anyway. We get our menus, and the "specials" menu was a little confusing, because it was Saturday, and the specials menu said it was for Sunday. The manager happened to be walking by, and my husband asked if the menu we were handed might have been given to us by mistake. The manager assured him that EVERYTHING on the menu were the specials of the day. We were still a little confused, because the menu specified certain days when other meal options were available. We then all decided to order the prime rib (Monday - Prime Rib), it may not have been Monday, but it was a specific day on the specials menu. So, when placing our prime rib order with the waitress, she informed us that the prime rib was only available on the day indicated. Derp. Okay, we moved on from that, and we all three decided on the "cowboy rib-eye". From here on, I can only tell you what I experienced with my meal. I ordered the steak and a side of creamed spinach. The $46.00 steak was huge, but very difficult to cut. I had to saw at it, and in trying to do so, ran into so much gristle that it was almost inedible. My creamed spinach was extremely watery and had no seasoning at all. My uncle was sitting next to me, and I saw him repeatedly removing the steak he was chewing, and putting it onto his plate. I was having the same trouble chewing my steak, but I just kept chewing until I could swallow it. Creamed spinach is my very favorite side, so I was willing to overlook the tough as nails steak to enjoy the spinach, but the waterlogged side I received failed that simple assignment. I wish I could have been able to give a positive review, but I just can't. I will never want to go back to Chuck's, even if invited. I hosted a party for 50 people for my husbands 80th birthday party in January 2026 and it was extremely disappointing. Chucks fell short on all aspects. The biggest disappointment was the service and the food. I paid for the top-tier menu and open bar with clear assurances about the setup and service. When I got there the room was not set-up and dirty dishes still had to be cleared from the party they had the night before. I was moving tables and putting table cloths on when I got there. My guests were sitting for almost 1 hour before they received water and soda and asked if they wanted a drink from the bar. I had to ask for everything. The appetizers weren't put on the table until I asked they came hour and a half later. I paid for Bruschetta for the tables and each person only received one piece each and it was horrible that cost 3.00 per person. They have a salad bar that was the only thing that was decent my quests served themselves. When the food finally was served two and 1/2 hours later the quality was poor and far below what is expected from a steakhouse of this reputation and price point. Samatha the server was having a meltdown. I really didn't blame her at one point she was trying to accommodate 50 people by herself. I was trying to hold it together but all the quests were noticing. I went to the owner Tom and Tony the manager and another women multiple times for help. My stress level and my daughter's were through the roof. When the food finally started coming out half of the food came out cold and Samatha the server had no idea who ordered what. They also ran out of food that was on the menu that I paid for. Some of the quests ate one hour after everyone else ate because of all the problems. The biggest issue was they didn't have enough waitstaff and my party suffered and so did my quests. I even cut and served the cake because the servers did not. I reached out through email multiple times to Tom, Dean & Tony with no reply. The only person I heard from with a phone call was Tony the manager stating how sorry he was they fell short on all levels that he was going to send gift cards to rectify the situation. They were never sent. I never heard from Tom or his son Dean. I also want to say this wasn't my fault this was clearly the owners fault for ruining my husbands party. I also asked for my receipt that was never given to me on all emails. I'm still waiting for that. This was meant to be a special celebration and instead became an embarrassing experience for both me and my quests. I would never host another event here and do not recommend Chucks Steakhouse for private parties or to eat there. read more

Chuck's was good before it became Barbaries. The salad bar was good but the rest of the food was terrible. The calamari wasn't fully cooked but the eggplant parm was overcooked and slimy. I ordered surf and turf medium well and it included two filet tips: one was well done and the other was medium. I'm wondering why they were cooked at different times. My husband couldn't even eat the prime rib. The quality of the food wasn't even in the same range of how it was priced. They took no pride in what they served and obviously have cut corners in the kitchen. It's a disgraceful business. read more

I come here for salad bar - which is good and fairly priced. One issue is the customer service. One time I had a server pressure me to buy something else - I finally told them to stay away from me. Another time I had a waitress be cleverly rude - we walked out. The last few times I've sat at the bar and that's been fine until the last time I was there. First, the host didn't seat me. Next, I sat at a table and there was cold air blowing from a closed area. So I moved to a different table - but it was wobbly. So I moved back to the first table. The bartender got a little snotty - and I got ignored the rest of the time. I still left a 20 plus percent tip. Also, overall, the staff isn't particularly friendly. Greeted in, got our table next to the fireplace. Table wasn't ready, girl who sat us wiped the table immediately and gave us the little plates. Waiter came over about 5 minutes after we were seated. Took our drink order, which was only 1 glass of wine and 2 waters as there were 3 of us. Came back with our drinks within just a few minutes. Great. Took our food order. Again, simple order for us, my mother and I ordered the same thing, the beef tips cooked the same way and my daughter ordered the prime rib. The waiter told us to help ourselves to the salad bar. He was very polite and friendly. We got our salad and everything is going good, except we had no silverware. I had to go find a waitress near the salad bar for the silverware. So far we're in the restaurant about 15 minutes. New customers were seated near us now. 2 people. Their order was taken. Within 15 minutes their food was brought out. We're still waiting. Another half hour goes by and we still haven't received our food. No one has even checked on us, only the person taking our salad dishes away. Now it's 45 minutes, and still no food, no refills of water, no waiter to be found. I told my family that I'll give it another 15 minutes. 15 minutes go by, nothing. I proceeded to go up to the front entrance where we're greeted in, but no one was there. I turned around and saw our waiter walking by and stopped him and explained why we were leaving. If you don't read past this first sentence mark my words, you 100% can get a better meal at a diner! That being said, let me explain. This was my first time at Chucks, but I have ate at Barbaries... After hearing about the renovations and Chucks past reputation I decided to come in. Inside was clean, but extremely outdated. It felt like being in someone's finished 1970s basement. Wood paneling all over with old style decor. Since it was lunch time I decided to order fish and chips, with a French onion soup. This order came with the salad bar (and for the price it was definitely needed). The salad bar reminds me of the old days, going to sizzler. Honestly it was the best part of my meal, and I enjoyed the salad (this saved it from a 1 star review). My soup arrived and the first thing I noticed was that the cheese was no longer melted, so I knew it would be cold... sure enough it was. It was also bland, bland bland! Zero flavor at all. My fish and chips arrived shortly after. It did look good, but a bit odd... when I order fish and chips I expect "chicken finger" sized pieces of fish, which you could break, dip and eat with your fingers. This plate came with one large piece of fish... you had to eat it with a fork, and took away from the "fish and chips" meal I was used to. Once again, like the soup the fish had no flavor! Bland as can be, with the tardar sauce being the only savior. Fries were ok... but the Cole slaw was 100% jarred from restraint depot. The same stuff you get in the tiny plastic cups you get at a low-end deli. I'm a close slaw fan, and couldn't even finish it. Overall Chucks was not a place I would reccomend, or return to. Dated decor, and bland over priced food! As stated above, I would have had a much better meal at a local diner for at least half of the price. read more

My friends and I only had one negative thing to say. The bread and rolls were not up to par. I know they've tried a few breads but it's still not right. This is my kind of place. My mother and I stopped here for a late lunch this past Saturday afternoon. I stumbled across this establishment a few months ago when I was looking for possible Thanksgiving Eve locations, and while this didn't "win" on that particular day, it was still on my radar. As we were being led through the restaurant to our table, I remarked that this felt like the steakhouse cousin of a Pizza Hut, which I absolutely meant as a compliment. It's very comfortable, with a dark, woody interior that I typically associate with a place from the 70s or 80s that your grandparents loved back in the day. (I say this as a geriatric Oregon Trail millennial that spent many an hour watching old school Nickelodeon in a wood-paneled basement.) So while I suspect a lot of interior updates...haven't happened in decades, if ever, some places can thrive in their time warps and this is certainly one of them. I wasn't paying or driving in the near term, so I opted for a vanilla Moscow Mule to whet the palate. Pretty tasty, but difficult to discern much of a vanilla taste. I'd probably venture further into the cocktail menu next time. I also wasn't in a red meat state of mind (and yet I went into a steakhouse; I know) and went with the Baked Stuffed Scrod entrée, which had crabmeat inside, along with a baked potato. It definitely hit the spot. My biggest potential issue with crabmeat is that it's going to have a bunch of other crunchy stuff in it like celery and onions, but if they were hanging out in there I didn't notice. Good texture/consistency. Scrod isn't necessarily the most flavorful fish (probably not a coincidence they stuffed it), but it's a perfectly fine complement to other items, which is what they did here. It was swimming in a LITTLE too much of its juices, unnecessarily dampening the bottom of the fish, but still a solid contributor. The service was okay. Our waiter was pleasant but there were a few small items that slipped through the cracks. For instance, I asked for a water with my mule (stay hydrated, kids, or at least make a valiant attempt to do so), and didn't get it. I had to procure one from a subsequent server who came by with the food. Since mules are basically glorified albeit naughty Ginger Ales, it wasn't the biggest deal in the world. I don't recall having to wait a particularly long/noticeable time for any of the ordered items, either. This may end up being the Thanksgiving Eve destination in 2023 - low-key, comfortable environment with legit food. And as a bonus, they seem to have a chocolate truffle station at the front? This checks off an awful lot of boxes. read more

We came here to support our friends at Charter Oak Brewing Company as they were having a tasting last night and also to try out the new Chuck's Steak House by Barberie. Well the beer was superb, as expected, but the food and service was horrific. Actually, our waitress Alfie was great. She was the only server in our area and she was very attentive. We later found out she is a manager by day, and waitresses in the evening. We have no complaints about her. We actually told her how awesome we thought she was. The runners, of which we saw at least 3, were totally clueless. Each time they came out with food, they went table to table, asking if the dish was for that table. They should know where the tables are. We spoke with a man that we thought was the manager about what was going on and he gave the excuse that staff had called out so they were short staff and one of the staff, it was here first day. Is there no training before they are out on the floor with customers?? This man walked away while my husband was talking to him and we later found out he was the owner. SHAME ON YOU!!! For food, we had the brussel sprouts appetizer, which was so tough, you couldn't cut it with the knife provided. We each decided to have steaks, since we were at a steak house. I had the 20 oz. cowboy ribeye and my husband had the 20 oz. porterhouse. I do not think either one of them was close to 20 oz. My husbands steak was tasty and as expected but my ribeye was tough and grainy, not what it should be at all. And at $44.00 a pop, certainly not worth it. Went out for dinner on Christmas Eve service was very slow. This was waiting to order and receiving it. When we finally ordered after sitting down for a half hour we ordered drinks, appetizers and dinner. We waited for our drinks that came out one by one ( 6 drinks). We did the salad bar (self serve) waited for our appetizers. Then continued to wait for our dinner. When we were waiting we could hear the manager yelling at staff and a staff member crying and other staff members making fun of her. She was not our server. We felt bad for her. When our dinner came 2 of our steaks were under cooked we had to send them back. One came back cooked well enough to eat but not the other..We feared sending it back again. We will cook it at home and feed it to the dog. Our server was nice but telling us about how they have staffing problems and staff is hired and quit frequently. There is also cleaning issues. There was fruit flies the came out with our drinks and in the ladies restroom had overflowing garbage and toilet paper was out and a cobweb at the top of one of the stalls. We were meeting family in Danbury and we decided to meet for lunch at Chuck's steak house. Unfortunately it was our very embarrassing recommendation. We have been to Chuck's a number of times but I will never return. Some ordered steak from their brunch menu. I ordered prime rib as did my husband. I asked for an end cut. When the meal came we received a dried out slice of what they call prime rib. I said to our so called waitress I asked for an end and she said that they don't have ends. She should have told us. The rest of the table ordered for $36.00 steak and eggs but no one could eat the inferior dried out steak Someone at the table asked for iced tea rather than the mimosa and was immediately told that there are no substitutes. I finally got them to bring orange juice without the champagne. This place needs an overhaul. I will never return. Their salad bar is very good but that is the only thing it has going for them. Great spot in Danbury with something for everyone on the menu. I started with a bowl of clam chowder which was so good I ate the whole thing before realizing I didn't get a picture of it lol. Next it was a mojito and a wedge salad with a sirloin steak on the side. The cook was perfect and so was the cocktail. My wife had the salmon and it was great as well. Very unique decor inside with a cool fish tank in the middle. Servers were all attentive and very friendly. Definitely a place worth checking out especially if you're in the mood for a steak. The best steakhouse by far. We have been going to Chuck's for over 30 years. The steaks and all you can eat salad bar are really good. Staff is always friendly and if you ask for suggestions they always give you the best recommendations. The French onion soup is always made perfect. The apps also will never disappoint. We live in Cortlandt NY and we don't mind the drive to experience what we think is the best steak house throughout the tri-state area. We have tried many places from Jersey, New York and Connecticut, even PA. Nothing compares. Keep up the good work!!! read more
