Stopped by here on our way to Boston. The interior of the restaurant was cozy, had a rustic barn feel to it. My boyfriend and I both got the NY strip and were not really impressed. It was served on a big plate with just a piece of steak on it, nothing else, (if you're used to how places like Texas Roadhouse brings out the steak) and not in an artistic or pretty way either. The steak itself was very bland. We both ordered medium rare but got more rare. We chose a side of pasta marinara which was just a plate of spaghetti also very flavorless. Most the servers on the night we went seemed like highschool girls who definitely didn't care much about service. The only nice thing about this place was the salad bar and fries! I have to say that it was so nice to see Chuck's cleaned up and refreshed. The restaurant looks so much more appetizing as the old Chucks was just too filthy to consider. It looks nice and pleasant. The staff was mostly very friendly and pretty quick. We came with our 2 year old granddaughter and we were in and out in less than an hour. Our food was mostly good tasting but unfortunately it was cold. The mac and cheese for our granddaughter was hot but our pork chop was not warm at all. It tasted just as did the potatoes and asparagus. The salad bar needed to be refilled as many of the the bowls were empty and still not refilled by the time we left. First the service: seated promptly, attentive waitress with good upsell skills, table was cleared off between courses. Had to share a single drink menu between the other three tables in the area. Although we ordered the salad bar we were never told or shown where it was/when to go which was a little awkward as we had to walk behind the server station to get there. Drinks: ordered three, two were weak! Upgraded to a martini on round two which was better. Wouldn't order the $14 strawberry vodka cocktail again. Food: oysters were tasty, $18 for 6. Macaroni and cheese was surprisingly super bland. No crumb topping or buttery flavor. Needed salt and pepper, stringy as opposed to creamy. Steaks were good. Chuck's is the place to go for a good, if not great meal. Was in a party of 6 and the 2 who had steak enjoyed it. The clam chowder was tasty but heavy on potatoes and light on clams. The salad bar was ok, nothing special. Unless you had a stir fry or pasta dish the dish looks so empty with just the protein on it if you had the salad bar as a side. This is a solid steak house. I personally didn't get steak but my family seemed to enjoy it. Their menu items are a hit or miss sometimes. Previous experiences haven't been too great but it seems to be getting better there. The French onion soup is good and the salad bar has so many options. I tried the salmon scampi based off the waitress's recommendation, and i enjoyed it! Flavor lacks a bit here but nothing salt, pepper and other stuff can't fix. read more

I wanted to like it. The appetizers. Salad bar was fresh but missing normal black olives. Dressing was amazing. The main dish was sooooo disappointing for the price. Steak had no taste. No seasoning. Did not melt in your mouth like a tomahawk should and medium came out medium rare. Mashed potatoes were plain and there is no gravy. Creamed spinach is not the same as the old chucks. I've been dining at Chucks for over 40 years, and I was super excited to learn that Tom Barbarie and his family were taking over. They gave the place the bit of revamping it needed while keeping the warmth and character that made Chucks a favorite for so many of us loyal customers! The main dining room fireplace, a favorite feature of mine, is still there, adding to the coziness we've come to expect. The bar is as lively as ever, and the salad bar is much better than before imho, offering more choices, including the best corn bread I've ever tasted! The calamari and the bang bang chicken are amazing, I haven't had a chance to try any of the other appetizers since I keep ordering these two. Both the lunch and dinner specials are great if you're on a budget, I've tried the NY strip, chicken parmigiana, fish and chips, lemon chicken, and pork chops. Each and every dish was delicious and accompanied by the salad bar, veggies, mashed potatoes, or pasta, so plenty of food! I haven't tried the deserts yet, always too full after the main course, but hopefully I'll get a chance to try them soon. All of n all, my experience has been first rate since the reopening and Chucks is once again becoming my "new" favorite hang out spot! Disappointing and outrageously expensive! The atmosphere was on a par with Red Lobster. The room was cramped with the Manager loudly barking orders. They charged $2.00 extra for ice cubes in a drink. The $40 steaks, although delicious, came with no sides and an extra charge for a baked potato. The salad bar was mediocre and many of the items were depleted. The $34.00 shrimp entree looked like an appetizer in size and presentation and contained FOUR small shrimp. The total bill was in access to that which we have paid in much finer restaurants with much finer food. We will never return to this restaurant under any circumstances. read more

Stopping for dinner last Saturday night at CSH was like visiting an old friend. Between the years of 2007 and 2011 we were traveling every weekend to Danbury to visit number one son and on many occasions ate at this terrific restaurant. Chuck's meats are all prime and were always consistently delicious. You get what you pay for and even though Chuck's prices are somwhat on the high end the quality makes it worth the price. Our server, Daniel, although having worked at Chucks for less that three weeks gave us the same wonderful service that we came to expect while dinner there. The prime rib that I ordered was just as delicious as I remembered. The prime sirloin that my dear ordered was also great. Chuck's steaks come with their excellent salad bar, the salad bar is always nicely presented, well filled, and kept beautifully clean. All of Chuck's breads, I think, are made in-house are are really good (the raisin nut bread and corn bread are my favorites). Some of the servers have been working at Chucks for 15 and 20 years with one gentleman that I recognized from days gone by that I had a brief chat with on my departure from the restaurant was in his 44th year of employments at Chucks. Chucks along with their delicious food seems like it is a great place to work. Go early because Chucks get very busy after around 6:30, If you do have to wait it is well worth your time. read more

Sadly, this is definitely NOT the old Chucks now that it's under the Barbarie ownership. Different menu and MUCH higher prices. Only the decor is the same - no idea what the "renovations" are that they were closed for. We heard they reopened and were sooo excited to go back! We specifically went for the prime rib and the steak tip kabobs, our favorites. Boy, were we disappointed. The prime rib is no longer on the menu, and neither is the steak tip kabob. Fewer seafood entrees and appetizers than before. We chose other entrees, which were fine if nothing to write home about, but we were incredibly disappointed. Here's some of the price changes that we were surprised to see. Filet mignon was $36 for 7oz, now its $49 for 8oz. Cajun beef tips was $28, now its $38. Chicken parm was $24, now its $32. Fried calamari appetizer was $12, now $17. French onion soup was was $8, now $11 Soup & salad bar was $18, now JUST salad bar is $20. We probably won't be back unless they bring back some of the old menu, although at the new prices, it would be a whole lot less often than we used to go - this was our go-to place for lunch out, and for meeting with friends and family. Both bartenders were very pleasant and doing the best they could, it was one bartender's first night!! I honestly don't know what these negative reviews are about. Maybe they ate here on a bad night? Sure, the decor is a throw back to an older steakhouse, but if something isn't broken, why fix it? I thought this place had real charm. Besides, I don't go to a restaurant for the decor. In terms of service - 5 stars. The food was really tasty. While it wasn't the best meal of my life, the prime rib was tender and perfectly cooked. The salad bar was fresh, had good options, and delicious dressings. To top it off, the handmade truffles were superb. We got a sample pack and I highly recommend the raspberry and Irish cream. Finally, I don't know who complains about these prices. A 16 oz king cut prime rib that came with the salad bar was only $45. Remember, prime rib is an expensive cut of meat. I've had smaller portions by themselves at other restaurants for over $75. From start to finish my experience was not good. Management who sat us continued to sit people and say Merry Christmas. Found that odd. Waited a good ten minutes for glass of water. My friend and I placed our order and was told to enjoy salad bar before meal. Salad Bar was extremely small. Hardly any variety and the bread was hard. My steak was cooked like i wanted but unfortunatley it was difficult to chew. Mashed potatoes were instant and i requested gravy which i waited for and never got so had to eat without it. My friends stripped bass was tasty but extremely small portion. He also had a soda which was never refilled, nor did anyone come and ask us if we wanted another drink so we finished eating what we could tolerate eating drinking the water on the table. When i received the check i told the waitress she forgot the gravy and she was apologetic and said she would give me desert on the house. I told her we got the specials. We already get free desert. We don't get to Danbury often so were excited to visit the "new" Chuck's Steak House. Excited for the salad bar since they are few and far between since Covid. The salad bar was as good as the original Chuck's. Disappointed however with the quality of the steaks. First of all, not a whole lot of choices in sizes - 8 oz. for $43 or 20 oz. for $44. No brainer. Ended up getting the Porterhouse. Not up to par with other restaurants that we have dined. Asked for medium rare to ensure that it was pink. Basically, it was barely pink so maybe that is medium? Highly suggest that they offer more choices in size and price for their steak items. read more

We didn't really get to eat here so this is more a review on the service we received in our attempt to eat there, for the first time. Living in Ridgefield, we pass by the restaurant a lot, and we were curious. Maybe it was just the person answering phones that day, but we were lied to twice. We called from the car at around 5 and asked if they were busy. They said it wasn't at all. I asked if we needed to reserve a table, and that we were about 10 mins away. They said all I had to do was give my name and show up. So I did, and showed up shortly after. When I got there the restaurant was full. We looked inside and the salad bar was so crowded there was a long line. There was really no need to lie to me. I asked if they were full, why not just tell me the truth? But we were there already, so we mentioned calling and someone saying they'd put our name on a list. Again, a lie. I saw them put my name on the list that moment I arrived, and they told us to wait. I asked how long, they couldn't tell me. They said all those people (pointed at many groups of people waiting) were ahead of me. Head-scratcher, right? Especially because 10 mins earlier they said the resto was not full, and that they'd add me on this list. Anyway, we hung out for about 15 mins, then left. The wait was too long. Not sure why they felt the need to lie. Twice. If they just told me the truth, that it was full, I would have come back another night, and tried the place out. I have not been to Chucks in years, but thought I would give it a try after re-opening with my wife and daughter, We started by ordereing the Clams Casino appetizer. This came with 6 small clams shells that had yellow peppers some butter sauce and bacon. Hard to mention the clams as it seems that they were removed, chopped up and then partially returned to the shell. One of my shells did not even have any clam in it. Next we ordered a Cowboy rib eye, scallop dish and surf and turf. The scallops were asked to be more on the well done side, but came out more on the "rare" side. The Rib eye was ordered medium rare and came out Rare and did not have much of a taste. The mashed potatoes appeared to be powdered, but not sure. For $48 dollars a plate, not very impressed. I will say that the service was great! except for the greeter "Host" who was very load and talking about politics in front of everyone. Not good... read more

We placed an online order for pickup and it bothered me to no end that the default tip for a pickup order was 20%! Ridiculous. I will happily tip generously for a sit down meal when someone else fills my water glass and does my dishes. Especially knowing the server is working hard for the tip. But for takeout? We hadn't even eaten the meal yet and they demand a tip. The food btw was mediocre. We requested medium steaks and they were medium/rare. Gross. Visited Chuck's last week after a long hiatus. Salad bar is still fantastic and for the steak prices during this period of run away inflation I still think prices are are bargain since the price of your entree includes salad bar or one side. For the first time I tried the beef kebab and was disappointed but that's my bad since you get what you pay for. I just wanted to try it out. Service is always very good at Chuck's I've been going to this location for over thirty years and n ver had a problem with service. I did at one time order my steak rare and it was delivered medium and waiter admitted making error and I received a rare steak. I really enjoy the ambience very comfortable and homey. Overall a great night out with family for an enjoyable meal at fair prices given the great salad bar. read more

I called two weeks before Easter and Tommy told me they would be having an Easter buffet brunch with limited menu items if you prefer to order off the menu. I specifically inquired about a brunch for my kids because they like breakfast foods. When we arrived he said they are doing a regular menu with an Easter ham. My kids asked if we could leave and go to Mix Prime or even a diner, but I said let's try it. My husband and his father enjoyed their burgers, and the server was excellent, but the rest of us were not impressed with our meals (except for the salad bar which was great). $250 later we left feeling like we would've been happier at a diner getting the breakfast our kids and I wanted and would've spent 1/3 of the price. I went here last week for a holiday party and had a horrible experience. First the waitstaff was not present enough. Was only able to order 2 drinks the entire night. When I went to the bar for faster service, they said I would have to pay for the drink and he couldn't add it to the party account which was open bar. Then when it was time to order my food I decided to go with the steak (made sense as it was a steak house). I ordered medium well, but it came back rare (I added a picture)! Definitely not medium well...I wouldn't even say it was medium rare :( because it was a larger party, I didn't want to send it back and be that person. On at least 3 occasions you could see and hear him yelling loudly in the staffs ears. 1 young lady who was running food and bussing tables and doing a fine job, was screamed at by Tommy "what do you think you're doing" 2 inches from her ear, eyes wide and angry red face. He was scary. I have seen him treat his employees like this at his other restaurants and honestly didn't expect anything less, which is sad. I feel bad for the staff. We ate here last Wednesday, My husband got the surf and turf ($35.00) it came with three very small, thin, pieces of steak 1 shrimp and 1 scallop. It was literally five bits. I had the fish and chips ($28.00). The fish was two very small, round pieces of fish that were maybe 4 inches long, not much bigger than a fish stick and I believe was frozen not fresh. The salad bar came with the meals. The service was great but the place is still dark and dreary. I will never eat there again as it is so overpriced for the portions of food you get.
