Well chute, this place was good! See what I did there?? We were looking for a place to have lunch and had seen Chute Rooster near our hotel. It's a fun big red barn with a western atmosphere. I only had 2 issues with our entire meal so I'm just going to get that out of the way. The table height was so short my daughter couldn't even get her legs under it. It was like the table was sitting directly in our lap and it wasn't comfortable. The only other thing was that our burgers were over cooked. We ordered some delightful drinks and they had a hefty pour of alcohol. I had a cheeseburger, husband had a mushroom Swiss burger and daughter had the French dip. We started with the cheese curds and they were REALLY good. The burgers and sandwich tasted great (except for being over cooked) and the fries were crispy on the outside and flavorful. We visited over the long 4th of July holiday. The whole town was packed and every restaurant was packed. Ryan and his staff, who commented that I look like Ryan, we're flying all around providing excellent service, great food, and awesome drinks. French onion and beer cheese soup were very good. Wings were average. Kids selection was average. Dinner menu is what I consider limited with 5 choices. I never want to dine anywhere with an already limited menu and see "Buttered noodles" marketed towards an adult. I don't dine out so I can eat something I can make in 10 mins and for under a dollar in my own home. I'm sorry but having that dish on your "dinner menu" for $14 is embarrassing. The Green chili Mac and cheese was not cheesy- more like a bland watery cream sauce, mine had no shredded cheese but my daughters kids meal did? I wouldn't consider that a Queso sauce. Also, I was expecting chili on the dish- it was just some salsa verde spooned on top. Not much thought went into two of the dinner dishes on an already limited menu. We had a very friendly staff and the owner is a really good person. I had the Mile to Hell Burger. The sauce tasted soo good and was spicy! I am from Arizona and spicy foods usually don't faze me one bit but this one had some kick to it for sure! I would definetely recommend. Found this place on Yelp and read about the namesake burger. We all had them, and were quite happy with the choice. We got to talking with the owners and learned some of the history behind the restaurant and location, as well as getting a tour of the building. These people are so nice and overly pleased to take care of us! If we ever find our way back to town, we will come in again! read more

Mushroom and Swiss 6/10 It was a bit dry, but good flavor and good portion Jalapeño Mac and cheese bites 8/10 These were fried perfectly. They weren't greasy and the Mac was cooked very nicely in the fried shell. Wisconsin Cheese curds 9/10 These cheese curds were very delicious and delightful. We sat inside which was nice but we were literally combating a group of flies our entire meal, they were relentless. 3 of us had French dip sandwiches which were good but the only side it came with was the kettle chips which I would not recommend. I had the Mac and cheese with bacon as an add on. It was $20, the swerving side was very small and my add on that of course you pay extra for was NOT bacon but bacon bits. My husband ordered his eggs over easy and they came out over hard so he had no liquid from the eggs for his potatoes and meat. He told the server and a manager came over and asked if he could remake it but we didn't have time to wait a long time for them to remake. He said he would take care of it. If you have a passion for waiting without any acknowledgement from employees at a restaurant, this is for you! Unfortunately, it's not my passion - that's why it gets one star. After waiting 15 minutes as the first and only person at the "please wait to be seated" sign, I walked five feet forward to the bar to figure out if the sign was up in error and should I seat myself? I was told, no, that the sign was there purposely. I was then offered to place an order there at the bar, which I did. And that's the trick - order at the bar area because who knows when you'll get acknowledged to be seated? The answer to that, apparently, is 45 minutes. 45 minutes for the server/host Caitlin who had walked by minimally 30 times to acknowledge me. And I was met with a statement from her, not a question nor an apology for the absurd wait (which she no doubt knew about because she walked by a minimum of 30 times as previously mentioned). Soon after that it was like the flood gates opened. Another person asked if I was waiting to be seated no less than a minute later! Hallelujah! But where were these "greetings" 45 minutes earlier? While waiting an hour for my takeout order to be completed (a pizza that wasn't too bad), I got to witness the chagrin of others as they waited and waited, and with no organization, only dysfunction, no one knew what to do there. Many left. One elderly couple came in and waited 10 minutes before being acknowledged to be seated. They asked for a menu, the waitress told them it's on the board by the bar and to take a picture quick so she can lead them to their table. Classy. Just a quick background on the time of visit - it was a Friday night at 6:30. It wasn't busy. There were many empty tables. We kept debating on leaving many times but thought it would longer if we left. We could hear the problems going on in the kitchen. However, our waitress was very friendly (even when our son spilled his root beer all over the place). The atmosphere is kind of weird...it's like they couldn't decide if they wanted to be upscale or down-home rustic and just kind of smooshed the two into one. The menu was kind of confusing--there is a section for "Lunch" but that can also be ordered for dinner and it was not clear. The dinner menu seemed a bit extravagant and pricey so we stuck to the lunch menu. The sandwiches we had were very good and about half the price of the dinner items. The baked potato soup was also very good and the kids chicken nuggets were actual pieces of chicken breast in a nice breading. We had a creme brûlée topped with root beer pop rocks for dessert that was really fun and tasty. Great prices for the portion size of food! The prime rib was a hit with our group, had to go back twice while in town. We're usually great about taking food but we dug in before pics were snapped. The wings did not disappoint, the salmon salad was so satisfying the side salad was also scrumptious the waffle fries and loaded mashed potatoes were fabulous. I had a margarita with a spicy rim that was perfection, beer, wine and unsweetened tea rounded out the table with sounds of great music all around us. I just had lunch here with my sister. I had the chute burger which was elk, antelope, bison, wild boar and deer. It was honestly one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life. In speaking with the owner and complementing him, he mentioned that he simply buys the best meat possible with simple seasonings. That burger was juicy and absolutely delicious.
