We stopped here for happy hour on Friday. I was traveling for work that week and my wife had a long week so a couple drinks were in order. We love Chuy's so it was a no-brainier. Not only are the bartenders friendly and not over bearing they have one of the best possibly not known secrets in Dallas. They have a free queso and taco meat bar. I mean how awesome it that?!? You can help yourself to salsa, chips, queso, taco meat and beans all for FREE while you have drinks at the bar or your table. My wife absolutely loves the Texas Martini's and I switch between a margarita or Chuy's brew. (margarita with a Coronaita in it). Either way its a good time, nice bartenders, and a fun way to pass the time at happy hour when a lot of places in Dallas do not have it on Fridays. It runs from 4pm - 7pm so get there early to get a seat and enjoy! There is no shame in going back for seconds or thirds...lol It's that good. Keep up the good work Chuy's! We'll be back. Chuy's, is located just a couple of miles north by north east of Dallas, one block off of highway 75, on the corner of McKinney and Knox. Bright colors of the building catch your eye as you enter either from the north west corner or their secret valet service hidden on the east side right off the alley way! Chuy's is usually busy, so once you have gotten your name on the wait list, head on over to the bar to wait if it is long. At the bar you might try the Mexican martini a very fun libation with a tex-mex twist. While you're waiting the chips and salsa are a must but, ask for the jalapeño ranch sauce! The sauce is addictive, it's so good it will curl your toes! The jalapeño ranch sauce is not on the menu, you have to ask for it. I love the 9-11 plate, green chili chicken enchiladas that have a slight kick to them! For desert try the sopaipilla with honey. Now, remember the jalapeño ranch sauce, you can ask for some to put on your plate or get some to go home with, it's fantastic! The customer service here has always been pretty good here! The staff is friendly, paying attention to detail, and fairly quick response times. Let's recap the highlights here: Great location! I know i'm about one of the few Uptowner's not a fan of Chuy's but really, I have had better. The food is typical Tex-Mex and doesn't really stand out to me in comparison to any other similar chain. This location is great for outdoor patio sitting and tequila drinking. I can honestly say I've spent a few afternoons chilled out on the patio with the drinks flowing here and loved it. In terms of service, I've always had great servers. They get my order right, keep our drinks and chip baskets flowing. Parking can be tricky, so look out for street parking close by. read more

Very good Tex-Mex place in uptown area of Dallas. On nice days, they open the windows and it has a very porch-like feeling. I loved the chicken flautas! Make sure to spread the sour cream and guac on them for best flavor. I also really enjoyed the enchiladas with the great cheese sauce. The beans side is quite possibly the best beans I have ever had! I've never understood the facination with this place (not just this Dallas location, but ANY of the Chuy's fanchise locations). The food is very bland. The salsa tastes like weak ketchup...no spice at all. It's where you take little kids to eat before their taste buds develop. Service was fine; the food, not so much. I must say, I don't really see the appeal for Chuy's. It is always busy, but I think half of that is location, location, location. The menu is dated, with very little as far as healthy or light options. I wanted some nice grilled seafood or fish tacos. The menu only mentions fried food in the tacos, but when I asked about it, the waiter said they could also do grilled. So I ordered the shrimp tacos, but when they arrived, they came with a fishy odor that my companion also noticed. Came here to lunch with the work group and was an experience I definitely enjoyed. We got there early because it gets crowded quickly, and they weren't joking! The bad part was that they couldn't seat us until everyone in our party arrived. Bummer. That set us back a good 15 minutes since a few groups went before us. Wanting to experience true "Tex-Mex" food, we stopped by the place for a quick take-out on our way to DFW. The food here is good. We had the nachos and the blue tortilla enchilada. The nachos were more like "quesadilla" and taste good, with the refried beans and jalepenos. The blue tortilla enchilada was something else though. It's special, because most enchiladas aren't made with blue corn tortilla, but this was. The give you an fried egg on top. It brings it all together. Sorry, but I've been to Chuy's more times than I can count, and each time I keep thinking that surely I'll figure out the secret item on the menu that everyone MUST be ordering to be raving about this place so much. Nope. The food is blah. I've tried many dishes here and never been impressed. On my latest visit, I had the chicken soft tacos. The chicken was cold (cold!!) and didn't have any seasoning. It looked like it had been dumped out of a Sysco value-pak, pre-cut with fake grill marks. (I managed a commercial kitchen once, so call that an educated guess.) At Chuy's, they wrap it up with some boring iceberg lettuce and call it a day. Uninspired. This time, I was here with a friend from Austin, and I asked her to compare it to the original Chuy's in Austin. She was excited about ordering their dinner salad, which she said is amazing in Austin. Well, here in Dallas, it's a sad, bland imitation. She was pretty disappointed. They have a queso bar during happy hour, but we were kinda grossed out watching them dump refried beans from a plastic container into the open car hood that serves as the buffet table. The queso, by the way, is nothing to write home about. Parking is terrible on weekends, and after you spend 30 minutes looking for a spot (or blow $11 on valet), you can spend another two hours waiting for a table. I never have (I aim for non-peak times if I ever have to go at all), but it blows my mind that so many people do. This place is so good for Tex-Mex! I love the ambiance of this place. It looks like a converted maintenance garage converted into this awesome restaurant. They specialize in Enchiladas. Today for lunch, I had their Thursday special which was some kind of Chicken Enchilada with green chili verde sauce and re-fried beans and rice. It was so good with just the right amount of kick. I love the fact that they give you these tortilla chips with salsa for free and the chips are really good. They are the very thin variety. I've been here for happy hour before so I know it is also good then. I think it is funny that they limit the amount of happy hour drinks you can buy. Save yourself a wasted night and avoid this Chuy's at all costs. First when we walked in we were not greeted by the hostess who was on her phone and didn't look up. I said "is there where we put in our name?" She said "yep." We asked for a table for 2 and saw there were over a dozen open tables that were clean and she said "25 minutes" I asked if we could sit at an open table and she said no that they were going to sit people there. We literally were 1 of 2 couples in the front waiting. She had a major attitude problem. Then we get seated and wait over 15 minutes to even be acknowledged. Once we got our food it was cold and not good. We ordered enchiladas and the sauce was definitely cold and had been sitting awhile because it had hardened. After hearing all the Austin people rave about Chuy's for years, I finally went to this one last month and left a bit underwhelmed. Perhaps it's better in Austin? I'd say the food is slightly above average as far as Tex-Mex goes in Dallas. I like a "fresh" salsa, but wasn't a fan of theirs which seemed like a watery bowl of chopped tomatoes. The house margaritas were decent but nothing special. Same goes for the chicken enchiladas with boom boom sauce. I give Chuy's 2.5 stars. Chuy's walks a fine line between local original and big chain Tex Mex. While Chuy's Tex Mex IS a chain, the original Dallas location on Knox definitely feels like a homegrown favorite. Packed wall to wall on most weekends, Chuy's is a go-to choice for many Dallasites for plain good Tex Mex. While Chuy's is not my overall favorite Tex Mex in Dallas, the things that they do well, I love. First off, there's a lot of love out there for Chuy's salsa. Personally, I find it a tad too chunky for my taste but I won't say no to it. I prefer a big bowl of their queso myself. My overall big complaint about Chuy's is that of all the things on their menu, there's only a handful of things a really like. Personal favorites include the "Panchos" nachos with fajita beef, Chicken Flautas, and the Deluxe Chicken Enchiladas. I still can't figure out why this place is so obsessed with Elvis Presley with their menu and decor. Specific to this location, the service has always been good. If you're coming in Friday-Sunday, plan on waiting for a table at least 30 minutes. But if you pass the time with one of their swirl margaritas, you'll forget you are waiting at all. And of course, being in my own neighborhood, Knox Henderson, Chuy's already is going to be on my radar. I always know what to expect with Chuy's and it's a nice fit for any occasion: big groups, small dinner with friends, or family meal with kiddos. I always know that if I don't feel like driving anywhere and can't think of anywhere to eat, I can always walk to Chuy's for nachos and margaritas. Solid four stars! read more

This location is not to far from my work and my coworkers and I really like the food and atmosphere. The is limited parking in the front and rear, but there is garage basement parking near. Really good Tex-Mex place. I ordered the Chicka-chicka boom boom and it was delicious. The chicken inside the enchiladas were nicely flavored and very juicy. The sauce on top had a nice spicy kick to it. I also really love their chips and salsa. You can also ask for their creamy jalapeño dip (my favorite) for free. If you come during happy hour on weekdays, you can also go to the nacho car and create your own queso + ground beef. If you eat as many chips as me, you may have a hard time finishing all of the entree because the portions are huge. We came during the middle of the week during happy hour and were seated promptly. Chuy's is one of the better places to come for happy hour. They have a huge bar area with plenty of tables, so finding somewhere to sit is not a problem. During happy hour, they have a station set up where you can help yourself to some chips, salsa, ground beef, and wait for it... queso. That's right, free queso during happy hour. Very good deal.On top of that, the magarita's are onyl $5 on happy hour. However, if I weren't coming for happy hour, I would probably go to another restaurant for Tex-Mex. Their salsa is really just tomatoes, jalepenos, onions, salt, and lime thrown into a blender. It tastes like a more blended version of pico de gallo, with a little bit more lime. Not bad, but I prefer a more traditional salsa. With that said, they also serve jalepeno ranch with their chips, and that stuff is the bomb! Very addictive. The food itself is not bad, but then again, not good: just average. The location itself has valet parking in the back if you are unable to find street parking. It's a bigger venue, so if you have a large group, and don't want to have to wait, this place will surely be able to accommodate your needs. Apart from the size, the inside is very Austin-y inside with a unique decoration. No sombreros or pinatas here. More like Car pieces from the 50's and an Elvis statue. In one word, funky. The parking here can be a little tricky & it gets a little crowded, but it's seriously good stuff going on here. They start you off with chips and fresh salsa (which is a little thin, but delicious) and depending on the server the creamy jalapeño (ask for it if your server doesn't bring it to you or try one of their many other sauces!). The waiter, Fernando, was extremely patient as we tried to figure out what our taste buds desired. He suggested a raspberry margarita & gave us a sample. Sadly it tasted like medicine so we passed and went for their sangria & strawberry margarita instead. Decided to go with the chicken fajita tacos & my taste buds were beyond happy! Host was very nice. Our waiter's service was in the toilet. Waiter became upset when we ordered an appetizer and asked him to come back to place entree order; rather than placing entire meal order up front. Simple items requested were not delivered, such as the Chuy's jalepeno ranch which is a huge draw to patronizing Chuy's. This restaurant is clearly not managed correctly. No draft beers. The food was mediocre. Ordered the fajitas and they were cooked well done.- YUCK. The chicken was OK. It was just an extremely subpar experience, and I only observed 3 other tables occupied in the establishment, therefore it is hard for me to find excuses for the lacking service. read more

I'll begin this review by saying I worked in restaurants for 8 years. I get it. Things can happen but as a customer I expect some acknowledgment of those mistakes. I work in the area and because my lunch break is short, I try to pre-order so I can just pick up the food and go. On the day I ordered, I sat for 10 minutes on hold to place my order. I then hung up and called back and my order was taken at 3:15pm for a 5pm pickup. I got to the pickup counter at 5:05pm. The staff couldn't find my order at all. After waiting 5-10 minutes, I asked if my order was even prepared. The staff told me, "it wasn't made but I put a rush on it". I then waited another 10 minutes to actually receive my food. I'm on a 30 minute lunch. What I'm most disappointed by is no one accepting responsibility. No one apologized. No one communicated to me that they failed. Had I known, when I arrived, my food wasn't even made, I would've just cancelled the order and run for fast food somewhere. How could you not get a salad done in an hour and 55 minutes?!?! They do have good chips and hot sauce and the chicken quesadillas. are also good but that is just about it. They make their own flour tortillas that are ok but not the best. Go figure that it takes an Austin-based tex-mex chain to finally satisfy the long standing craving I've had. From good food at great prices to potent drinks that quench the driest of mouths, Chuy's is really a great tex-mex restaurant that is sure to serve as a local staple. I've been to Chuy's in Austin and Houston and finally decided to take a trip to the one nearby in Dallas, and it definitely holds up to the charm of the others. From the festive decor to the lively staff, the cute and quaint ambience has transferred over quite well. The food itself is still good. Standard tex-mex fare, but in a good way- it's what you want, and what you'd expect. I had the macho burrito myself (Saturday/Sunday special) that had juicy pork with decently fatty bits that kept it really moist. The cheese and sauce smothered on top did a great job of finishing out the dish. The frozen margarita paired really well and was also reasonably strong while being incredibly delicious. I can only imagine how dangerous they'd be during happy hour. Overall, I think I've found my go-to spot for good tex mex. I'd hoped I could find something more unique to Dallas, but I suppose there's nothing wrong with a throwback to Austin. read more

I give 4 stars because I like their food but parking is pretty bad. It's in the middle of busy streets and it's parking space is very small that it's easily filled. You will like their interior and atmosphere. It's very Mexican I'd say with lots of colorful decorations. And they have enough variety of selections of foods and drinks. My friend got the Chile relleno. Tried some - it's great! She drizzled jalapeño ranch sauce + ranchero sauce = bomb! I got the taco salad with ground sirloin and jalapeño ranch. It had the perfect amount of ingredients (for my personal taste). The flavor was outstanding. I usually always have sour cream on my taco salads for added flavor - didn't even NOTICE this salad didn't have it. The chips are "thin" style versus the ultra crunchy harder chips. The salsa is on point... As is the queso (tip:check in on FB to get it for free!) All and All .... I love this place. It's different enough from my other favorites (Gloria's, MiCocina/Taco Diner, Ana Mia's) that really allows it to stand out. Have a margarita for me (those were great too!). read more
