Go figure that it takes an Austin-based tex-mex chain to finally satisfy the long standing craving I've had. From good food at great prices to potent drinks that quench the driest of mouths, Chuy's is really a great tex-mex restaurant that is sure to serve as a local staple. I've been to Chuy's in Austin and Houston and finally decided to take a trip to the one nearby in Dallas, and it definitely holds up to the charm of the others. From the festive decor to the lively staff, the cute and quaint ambience has transferred over quite well. The food itself is still good. Standard tex-mex fare, but in a good way- it's what you want, and what you'd expect. I had the macho burrito myself (Saturday/Sunday special) that had juicy pork with decently fatty bits that kept it really moist. The cheese and sauce smothered on top did a great job of finishing out the dish. The frozen margarita paired really well and was also reasonably strong while being incredibly delicious. I can only imagine how dangerous they'd be during happy hour. Overall, I think I've found my go-to spot for good tex mex. I'd hoped I could find something more unique to Dallas, but I suppose there's nothing wrong with a throwback to Austin. read more

I'm a big fan of Chuy's, even coming from San Diego. I've been to two locations, both in the greater Dallas area. This was the second location that I've been to. You can check out my full review at the Plano one. My chuychanga on this one however did have the same flavor as the one in Plano. I give 4 stars because I like their food but parking is pretty bad. It's in the middle of busy streets and it's parking space is very small that it's easily filled. You will like their interior and atmosphere. It's very Mexican I'd say with lots of colorful decorations. And they have enough variety of selections of foods and drinks. Try their Combo menu and you can have different things(like tacos, burritos, and rice) in one plate. read more

Came to Chuy's on a weekday because my friend was craving a chimichanga. I'm not a fan on tex- mex food so I wasn't expecting much. I was actually really impressed with the food! I got the green enchiladas in blue corn tortillas and they were so yummy that I finished them all! Yummy margarita swirl, you'll be buzzing with just one! Lol Their chips and salsa are so good as well, we had to ask for more of that delicious salsa, very unique and tasty. Even though it was a week day we were surprised on how packed it was! First time coming to this place. I must say i cant believe i have lived in Dallas and never been to a Chuy's before. Im typically not a big fan of tex mex food but chuys gives me a reason to come back! The food was delicious and the swirl margaritas were so tasty and strong. The chips are probably amongst the better that i have ever tasted and the salsa tastes so fresh. I will say that service was a bit slow but its understandable because the place was sooo packed that night. This place was great. The bartender was extremely helpful while we waited for a table. The wait was not as long as predicted because we sat on the adorable patio. Our waiter was obviously a veteran of Chuy's or else just a fantastic waiter...or I guess he was both. My all-time favorite Chuy's dish is no longer on the menu, but he knew what I was looking for and he made it happen. The food was amazing and the service was exceptional. I know it's some sort of institution here, but it was pretty generic, albeit good, Tex-Mex. The prices are very reasonable, and the margaritas are good, but if you want gourmet, this isn't it. That being said, it's probably one of the best places I've been for a big group of people. They were very accommodating with individual checks, and they had no issues with us bringing cupcakes for dessert (birthday dinner). They were also very good about taking out all the cilantro in my fajitas, and they substituted things at no charge. Parking at this location can be a bit annoying, so Uber is likely the best bet, but overall, it's decent, it's not going to break the bank, and you should get a margarita (the jalapeno one). read more

I was super excited to find that across from the BF's gig at Apple off Knox that they have a Chuy's. If you frequent me here on the Yelp...then you know that I had an experience that was devine at the location in Houston. I wanted more, and I wanted it in Dallas. Then I get my wish and guess what.....when you want something too bad....it's not always the best. I had a watermelon margarita (fresh watermelon btw) and it was delicious, however, I am not such a fan of the frozen drinks this summer...so I was excited to order a martini margarita to get the job done. It was one of those days. The bartender was nice and I ordered the wrong drink, I wanted to spicy one with the jalepeno in it. That one was good. The BF joined me and we split a big as yo face beef burrito and it is really that big. I couldn't even finish my half...and you all know I am not one to leave food on a plate. This place is fun, and the open garage doors add a different spin. Salsa is nothing to write home about, but it tastes fresh. I had the Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas. The only thing positive about this location was the free nacho bar during happy hour. The customer service was okay, I say that because the bowls run out during happy hour at the nacho bar. I mentioned that fact to multiple staff members who did nothing about it. Parking is horrible at this location, I drove around for fifteen minutes looking for a park. My friend and I split a burrito (steak) with boom boom sauce, rice and pico. This burrito contained barely any steak mostly refried beans. They have a great happy hour on Wednesday. They offer free queso, meat and guacamole for nachos with the purchase of a drink. The happy hour drink prices are not bad. My friend and each got two margaritas and ate the shit out of the free happy hour food. We left stuffed and happy. As for the menu for regular meals, I was not as pleased. The food was very chain-y. The decor is funky and eclectic. I've been to the original Chuy's on Barton Springs in Austin and it is true to its origins. We always start with the yummy queso. I am a creature of habit and usually order the same thing. I get the chicken combo with a soft chicken fajita taco and a chicken chalupa. Just those two items make it hard for me to finish my lunch, but they are amazing. I usually add jalapeños to it to add a little heat to the dish. My husband loves the big as your face burrito. He can never finish it, but I think he just likes the name. We have never had bad service or had to wait very long for a table. Fast, friendly, and an easy get in and get out lunch spot. I ask about the drinks featured on the menu to see if they are any good and the response I receive is " if you are going to drink I'm gonna need to see some ID" then goes on how SMU kids go there and then he proceeded to ask me to look at him to confirm it was me even tho I was looking at him asking about the margaritas. After two visits I think it's time to try other places. The food is great, once it's prepped correctly. After two visits to this location, the customer service took a dip each time. I went with family and my mother ordered a drink from the bar that was by the main entrance. The drink was made perfectly, but caution on ordering a drink on the main floor. I'm unsure wether the waitress or the other bartender was unfamiliar with the drink, but instead of trying to clarify, they decided to pawn off a margarita mix concoction instead. The food was brought to our table, but our tableware didn't make, until a few mins after the food was brought. The first time around the food was prepped incorrectly, extra cheese on a dish that wasn't to have any and no cheese on a dish that was supposed to have extra. Wow! Chuy's let me down. I love Chuy's and have never had a mediocre much less bad experience. So this review is unusual for me. This review is for the one on Knox-Henderson. I was so looking forward to some nachos and creamy jalapeno dip. The dip was wonderful as always. My nachos however, didn't have melted cheese. I ate a few because I was starving and decided to take the rest home where I could heat them up later and melt the cheese. Why didn't I send them back? Because the person waiting on us never came back until ready to give us the bill and I was hungry and in a hurry. But nachos just aren't nachos when the cheese isn't melted. This was last Friday and this fine foggy Monday morning finds the nachos still in the back seat of my car. I didn't even bother to take them in the house for dinner. We came early - about 11:10 so I know it wasn't because they were super busy. Maybe over the holidays I can find some time to hit the Chuy's closer to home and get some nice hot nachos with plenty of melted cheese and a coke to wash them down. Ahhh, bliss. read more

However, my gf and were pretty unimpressed with the lackluster service. It just took a long time to order, to get drinks, to get food, to get refills, to get check, etc. But, chips were fresh and the salsa good. I love the jalapeno ranch. I got the fried fish tacos and they were ok. They had very little garnish and no dressing so I asked for the jalepeno ranch to spruce it up. We have been coming to this place for the last year or so. And while the food is great. The service not so much. We have gotten bad service but it was mainly been To the place been packed. Today while we were waiting for 30+ min..the hostess decided to skip us and seat someone that had the same number of guest and had waited for far less than us. She knowingly skipped us. Simply because the other party threaten to "leave" ... The other hostess pointed to her that she was skipping a.
