Me and my coworkers had a great time visiting chuy's about a half dozen times. Don't sleep on this place, it's totally worth it. We tried to many things it's hard to pinpoint favorites. Always came out great and delicious. This is the spot big portions, great food, very authentic. It gets really busy so get there early. Chuys has always been my favorite restaurant and when I moved to plano I was excited that there was one right next to my house. I was ready to frequent it and went there for my birthday and was dissapointed. The staff looked like they didn't want to be there, the energy was low, and I asked if they could do something for my birthday and they said they don't do anything for birthdays which has not been my experience in other chuys. Not even a happy birthday song. From the reviews, it seems like service has we down at this location and I would agree. They lost a loyal patron today. read more

First off, we're huge Chuy's fans, and have been for years. We've been to numerous locations in many different cities. This evening we visited this location in Plano, off of 75. The food was amazing as always. From the enchiladas, to the kids meal, and the taco salad. This review is mainly for the customer service though. Our server was Hannah A. Wow, what a really cute upbeat trendy restaurant! Super busy for an afternoon lunch, but plenty of places to sit. Very impressed with the service and food. Our server Missy was super efficient and friendly. I really liked the green chile hatch salsa and chips! For entrees we ordered the chicken flautas with chipotle sauce and the southwestern enchilada with a fried egg on top. Both were extremely delicious and full of flavor. Chuys is an interesting place. Not fully New Mex not fully Tex Mex. it is However very popular and the food is pretty good. Thanks to YELP! I was able to start a reservation for the wait. The drinks at the bar were excellent. And effective too! Just what I was needing. Their chips and salsa/pico aren't my fave so I tread lightly. I did have very delicious steak fajitas with all the fixins including my preferred corn tortillas. I wasn't as hungry as I thought so most of it came home and was a great reheat. ( the couple of Rita's mighta has something to do with it! :) and yes I had a DD. It was a nice change of flavor as we were in the area aren't usually over there. Took a little while to get seated but that's expected on a Friday night. Our server Steph was really nice, really fast to get what my husband and I what we wanted/needed. The food is really filling and the taste was great, the prices were really reasonable too. My husband and I did order Mojito's and the lady who made our drink didn't crush up the leaves very well and my husband ended up choking on it a bit but we took care of that. The Sopapillas were awesome, didn't really have the room for one in my stomach but ended up shoving it in there anyways. The environment is really well put together, I love the decorations and vibe of the place and it's really clean other then the pile of paper towels overleaping in the bathroom. I really like Chuy's! This is a Tex Mex restaurant in Plano my family frequents at least once per week, and I have heard many good things about it. We came here Tuesday night, and it was packed. It was about a thirty minute wait for a table of 9. Our server brought out two baskets of chips and salsa. We also ordered some queso. Everything on the menu looked really good. I was debating between the fajitas and the chicka-chicka boom boom, which is a chicken enchilada in a spicy sauce. I picked the latter, and glad I did! I had a taste of my dad's steak fajita. It was good but I liked my entree better. Service was good. The staff kept refilling our chips and beverages. The food came out pretty quickly as well. I would definitely be back! read more

I have been here a couple times and have had good and bad experiences. I'm a vegetarian so I recommend getting their cheese enchiladas, cheese quesadillas and the fajitas. They have often messed up my order and brought something with meat, which is why I hesitate to go there. But if I'm craving it, I go there anyways. Their BOOM BOOM SAUCE (queso) is really good but the best is there CREAMY JALAPEÑO sauce. Just ask for it on the side to eat with your chips. If you're going to order the Tex-Mex enchilada (cheese enchilada), the sauce on top has meat in it, so ask them to substitute it with another sauce ( preferably boom boom sauce, but they charge and extra dollar for it read more

The service was great but, If your ordering beef fajitas, Sometimes the beef is tender and other times it's tough. My last visit the beef was tough, i thought I'd cut it in small pieces so I didn't pull everything out of the tortilla when i took a bite. I couldn't cut the meat, so I scraped the beef off the grizzle before making my taco. That works and it tasted fine. My favorite Mexican restaurant. It stared in Austin when I was in school there and now, we're lucky they have franchised it in Dallas. I love the New Mexican Margarita. It's their house margarita, but spiced up with Hatch green chilies and served in a shaker with a martini glass and jalapeno stuffed olives and a lime. They have delicious creamy jalapeno sauce served with the hot sauce if you ask for it. We always get a container to go to snack on during the week. We love their queso. And they have the best corn tortillas of any I've ever had. For entrees, I love their cheese or chicken enchiladas with their boom, boom sauce (queso with extra hatch) and deluxe tomatillo sauce. This way my first visit to Chuy's ever.... I don't know how that happened because I DEFINITELY should have come here sooner. Great service! Our server was really nice and always came back at the perfect times. We were chatting a lot and he didn't interrupt us. He even asked us if we wanted to just hang out for a while so we never felt pressured to hurry to order or leave. Great food! I got the Baja tacos with shrimp and they were really good. Usually you get like 3 little tiny baby shrimp in a shrimp taco... Not here! There were probably 5-6 large shrimp in 1 taco. We joked about my first bite because it was all shrimp. There wasn't even a little piece missing from the tortilla. And it was a big bite! The shrimp were cooked very well and they were huge. We also got queso with ground beef and the jalapeño ranch as appetizers. Both were great! I would definitely order them again. First time I had ever heard/seen of Chuy's was in Austin. I came here with a group of 8-10 people with as little notion as possible what I experienced in Austin. Being in Dallas for quite some time, I noticed that many cuisines start homogenizing and soon everything tastes the same. This is like going shopping for fragrances or paints: Everything blends after awhile. When we got to Chuy's, there was a 2 hour wait. I thought to myself "Wow, this is a long wait. Who in their right mind would wait this long?" We were actually seated within an hour next to the room with all the hubcaps on the ceiling. The atmosphere brought me back to a time when life was free and you didn't get stared at for just people watching. Festive, colorful, and full of life is what describes the atmosphere of both the restaurant itself and the waitstaff. We had a diverse group of diners and our waitress, Tiffany, kept up with each and every one of our orders. I was impressed. The restaurant filled up to capacity at one point and Tiffany kept up with the pace. She constantly came back to check up on us. Almost at the right interval each time, like she had the sixth sense of waiting tables. Amazing to say the least. I had the hatch chicken enchiladas which was the Friday night special along with a frozen margarita. The chicken was dry yet moist. This is the perfect combination in my books. Slightly dried on the outside that was moistened ever so slightly by the heat wrapped into the enchilada. Then moist/tender/flavorful on the inside. The salsa and jalapeno dipping sauce with chips was an excellent compliment to the night's festivities. I always look for that hidden taste. Something that ignites my senses or takes me back in time. Many Tex-Mex dishes can be overpowering with spices, cheese and sauces. Definitely not at Chuy's. I have learned over the years to take smaller bites and savor what the chef has offered on my plate. Chuy's does an excellent job. If you don't have time to wait to be seated, take out is always an option. Skip the sopapillas. They're just not fluffy and bizarrely served in Dairy Queens french fry baskets. Otherwise, go for a good time and leave with a full tummy! After several visits, Chuy's is our absolute favorite for great tex-mex! Living in Texas, there are a lot of choices for tex mex food, and of course there's always the "corporate" tex mex (On The Border, etc), but Chuy's has been the best we've experienced for both great food and service, and our dinner last night was no exception. Word to the wise.... this place is popular - go early or expect to wait a bit. We went at 4pm on a Sunday and it was starting to fill up already. We were greeted promptly by our server (Garrett) who was helpful, attentive and friendly. He brought our drinks and chips/salsa within moments. The tortilla chips were fresh, light and crispy and the salsa has a great fresh taste. Garrett quickly brought us our order of the queso compuesto. It's a tasty appetizer. My wife and I each got combo meals - the #1 Comida Deluxe, and the #2 The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. The #2 is my Fav. While it doesn't include a fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches (Sorry, Elvis!) is does come with several different varieties of enchiladas, a ground sirloin taco, and tostada chips with queso. If combos aren't your thing, try the fajitas... marinated in Shiner Bock beer, Serrano peppers, lime juices and their secret spices! Amazing! In summary, Everything.... rice, beans, entrees, chips, tortillas.... even the iced tea...they put care into preparing everything fresh and it pays off. Always a great meal!!! read more

My wife and I recently met some friends for dinner here, and overall we enjoyed ourselves. There were a couple of things that knocked the score down, which is a shame because this place has 5 star potential. Overall, everything was great. There was a long wait, which is a good thing because that means the place is good and busy. I usually have a drink at the bar while I wait anyway, and before I could even get to the bar, the bartendress was hustling and greeted us in the wait area and offered to bring us drinks. Excellent work ethic! Right away, something happened that knocked the first star off; no draft beer. Not having drafts isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me, but it better be an extremely divey bar to make up for it. A place this size and this busy should have draft beer, especially a Mexican type of place. Anyway, I opted for a margarita and it was delicious. We were eventually seated and our server was friendly and attentive. Our next round of drinks were great, and when the food arrived everything was cooked correctly and tasty. It was then that another pet peeve of mine occurred and the second star came off; the food came out all at different times. I understand a slight delay because a server or runner can't carry all the food, but having delays of several minutes while everyone else has their food awkwardly is a big no-no to me. We had one kid at the table and his food came much later. Kids' food are fast ticket items that don't take long to make, so there's really no reason for it. To be fair, I'm pretty sure it was not that server's fault, and most likely the kitchen was wrecked, but still, somewhat annoying to the customer. While the food was good, there are plenty of other places that serve Mexican food that have draft beer, and if I had a choice, I'd try elsewhere. That being said, I'd eat here again if I had the chance or if someone else was paying. :D read more

For whatever reason, I was never interested in coming to a Tex-Mex chain restaurant, but hubby wanted to give it a try. Went early evening on a Saturday. We were told 10 minute wait time, I was surprised it was that short considering the amount of other patrons waiting too. But I don't think we even waited a full 5 minutes, so that was good. We were seated in a very snug booth for 2 near the back. The temperature was unbearably cold. The high was only 78 degrees that day, but they had the AC on full blast. Ordered the Queso Compuesto minus the guac to start. I had the crispy tacos with Mexican rice and charro beans. The entire meal was just okay for me, nothing special about any of the dishes. The rice actually tasted kind of old. Server was nice. She came by at one point and said she'd bring me a refill, but never did. A manager stopped by, so she was the one to get the refill. We visited a before Christmas. It was a Friday evening and we thought it odd that we were seated immediately. Then we ordered our usual Chick-a-Chick A boom-boom. We were very disappointed! It's Chuy's...what can I say... The food is great, the wait is long and the margarita's are so-so. If you're gunna get a margarita- do NOT get a simple/basic one- put some $$ behind it so the 'rita will match the meal. good! Top shelves are like $8.00- so more than reasonable. (Not so) hidden gem- Ask for "Creamy Jalapeno" with your chips- it's a must! The mark of a longtime patron and possibly the best part of the meal. Often times I'll call and order sauce and chips to go and grab them on the way home. They're generous with their portions- that's fo'shizzle! (Secret) Once you find out it'll be an hour for a table- look over your shoulder and find a table in the bar area-they're first come, first serve. We always find a table quickly- the menu is the same and the service identical. I think you actually get more elbow room/space in the bar areas. Chuy's food is ALWAYS fast and hot. I'm pretty sure I've eaten at every Comida Delux establishment (in Texas) and had every dish on their menus and never had issues, never. My heart is still in Austin- so I'll love this place no matter, but I do find it to be excellent Tex-Mex compared to other Texas Tex-Mex! read more

The chips are thin and crispy, with not too much salt, they go great with the creamy jalapeno dressing. The salsa is always fresh, and oh so tasty, with a nice bite of heat! The tortillas are house made and go great with the creamy jalapeno dressing. The fajitas are cooked over hot coals that you can smell as soon as you get out of your car. The onions can be a little mushy on the hot skillet but still taste great. The fajitas go great with the creamy jalapeno dressing. I am not a bean guy, so I sub the house salad, it goes great with the creamy jalapeno dressing. The enchiladas are flavorful and above average, I like to put a bit of the creamy jalapeno dressing on top, it goes great with the ooooey goooey cheese. The wait staff are friendly like they enjoy their jobs, and if you ask, he/she may bring you more creamy jalapeno dressing. This Plano location has two other Tex/Mex places in the same complex. My friend and I have bets on how long until they vanish like a bowl of creamy jalapeno dressing. I've been to both of them and they have no creamy jalapeno dressing. So when you have that Tex/Mex bug crawling on your back, go to Chuy's, and if you can remember, try the creamy jalapeno dressing. read more

I went to Chuy's on a recent trip to Dallas through a recommendation of a friend. I dragged my cousin to take me there so we went to the nearby location in Plano. The wait here is usually quite long but we went at the beginning of lunch so there was no wait. We got a booth and began to order. The waiter greeted us and seemed to be on speed or something. He was talking really fast and seemed to be rushing. He was however, very helpful and courteous. I asked for his recommendation and he suggested to get the CHUYCHANGA with steak meat and BOOM BOOM sauce. I took his suggestion and waited. We ended up getting a set of chips and salsa. The chips were really good. Fresh and very light. The salsa however, WOW. The salsa seriously is probably the best that I've ever tasted. Next thing I knew, I downed TWO BASKETS of chips! The wait for the main course wasn't that long. We ended up getting it fairly quickly. It finally comes and I go and dig in. WOW. The flavors on the chimichanga are amazing. I can't really explain the difference between Mexican food and TexMex. Being from San Diego, I'm exposed to a lot of Mexican food. This place ranks up there with some of the best that I've ever had. Almost every time we have been to this Chuy's location the food and service has been really good so I would give them 4 stars but tonight we ordered the off menu items as usual and one dish went way south. My 911 chicken enchiladas were good, but the stuffed sopapilla was awful. There was leathery fajita meat, pieces of chicken and some dry ground beef inside what looked like week-old tortillas. I got through ten bites and had to throw it away. I have to ding Chuy's one star because tonight's dinner was a real letdown. I do appreciate the manager helping to rectify the problem and hope this is just a one time mistake, cause we do love our green chile! read more

My husband always seems to come here for lunch, and he finally took me one night! Everyone talks about the chile rellenos, so I got a plate of that with rice and beans. Before that we had queso, salsa and chips. I enjoyed EVERYTHING. The chips, salsa, and queso were addicting. I had to stop myself from eating more in preparation for the chile relleno plate. My entree was huge, on top of a super large plate. I enjoyed the rice, not so much the beans (I don't like beans much, I should have asked for double rice). The chile rellenos, which I got one with just cheese and another with ground beef, were so good and fried to perfection. It was topped with a creamy green sauce which I thought was a very good complement to this fried goodness. My husband got a combo platter, which seemed like a mess to me.. A very delicious mess. It included a combination of taco, burrito, and enchilada (forgot which specific ones though). He enjoyed it and got very full off of it, haha. The restaurant is very bright, vibrant, and funky. It definitely has their colorful Austin vibe, where Chuy's is originally from. I was surprised to see how well priced the entrees are, with many priced between $11-14, and the portions are huge! This is my husband's and my favorite Tex-Mex spot. The decor is funky and eclectic. I've been to the original Chuy's on Barton Springs in Austin and it is true to its origins. We always start with the yummy queso. I am a creature of habit and usually order the same thing. I get the chicken combo with a soft chicken fajita taco and a chicken chalupa. Just those two items make it hard for me to finish my dinner, but they are amazing. I usually add jalapeños to it to add a little heat to the dish. My husband loves the big as your face burrito. He can never finish it, but I think he just likes the name. We have never had bad service or had to wait very long for a table. Fast, friendly, and an easy get in and get out lunch spot. We have come to happy hour here also. They have a nacho bar that is very tasty to soak up your margaritas. The margaritas are STRONG. I can only handle one. read more
