I love the vibe here. I've always had great service. Everything I've ever ordered tastes incredibly fresh and oh so yummy. My go tos are the pork belly fried rice and the jerked chicken naan tacos. I've gotten a pickle flight from here a few times that were unlike any option I've seen from another restaurant. They were different pickled vegetables and some I've never had. I ordered takeout for lunch. It was okay. I ordered the Miso Hummus and an order of Tofu Tacos. I LOVED the hummus. It was so creamy and delicious. I wish I just ordered the hummus. Because the tofu tacos ruined the entire experience for me. They were soggy. The tofu had the strangest texture and flavor. The pineapple was soaking wet and made the entire taco wither away while I ate it. I ended up only eating 3-4 bites because I just couldn't eat the tacos. The service was great. She was patient while I was ordering (it was my first time there). She was also super nice when I went to pick up my order. I just wish the tacos weren't so unappetizing. read more

We come to Westerly every year and noticed this place as we drove in. It's difficult t find a place that is truly unique and Cinder is. I had the brisket along with beans and greens. The brisket was top notch bbq place quality and flavor. Toppings were delicious. While they were all good together in a single bite. I found myself taking separate bites of the meat and toppings, as if they were more of a side, the better to fully savor the flavor of the brisket. The beans and greens were delicious. I had a draft beer and enjoyed the early evening breeze watching the river. The flavors were outstanding; the prices very reasonable. My quibble is with the naan. Would prefer a good piece of bread. Absolutely amazing overall experience. A unique vibe to the westerly restaurant industry. Something for everyone's fancy .. from vegan to carnivore and everything in between... there is a dish within your means. As photos attached we had to try the pickled sampler as a quick appetizer. Fennel, garlic, pickles, and beats....if you're into pickled anything thing..then this is a no brainer. We were lucky enough to go in after the breakfast crowd and in between the dinner crowd so we got the low down on the best options based on vegan/carnivore options. I chose the spicy lamb and the wife chose Bahn mi for main plates, which were equally amazing. The bowls were based on manager/ owner recommendations. Bok choy ceaser and winter root veggies were unbelievable options and Im glad we took the recommendations, because it was definitely outside the "box" for us. Drink options also line up well based on the unique food options that cinder has to offer. This is a 5 out 5 and j look forward to our return to try something completely different.. My absolute favorite place to go on a day off. The food is legitimately excellent, the head chef does an amazing job of layering flavors and textures, everything is made from scratch, and the food quality is top tier. Service is excellent and they have options outside of your typical restaurant for beverages. The half/half iced tea is excellent, their wine selection and cocktail menu is great, and the atmosphere is bright and relaxed. 10/10, I recommend this to anyone and everyone. read more

Warning- I was starving when I went in. It took me a while to review the menu, everything looked really good. The girls at the register were very nice, very helpful. Great drink menu, alcoholic beverages, etc. I took a few different items to go which were packed individually in tiny brown boxes. Each item ran about $9. Once I opened everything I realized how tiny the portions were. The soft taco was tiny and the shredded cheese was cold, not a repeater. The other items were ok, tasty, some a little spicy which was good, but more like samplers. Spicy lamb naan was delicious, but a tiny bit more than a mouthful. Lamb tasted a little more like pulled pork, but was good anyway. Most of the people dining in had bowls, which looked really good and just right size wise. Interior was small but cozy, parking lot small, and the outside tables will be nice in summer on the river. For a brand new place I give it 4 stars, you could tell the owners have a love for food and it can only get better! Nice to have something different in Westerly! read more

Tastes of various worldly cuisines such as middle eastern (like the couscous that was very fresh), Vietnamese (want to try the banh mi), Indian (anything with naan is the best). We got the meatballs which was okay but the sauce was good. However, the meatballs came out sorta cold. The spicy lamb was good and the best thing that we got. The chicken soup was okay but not very flavorful. We got the Buffalo Tempeh which was a special which had great flavor but it was our first time eating tempeh and we did not love the texture. They had a decent drink menu. They did not appear to have any high chairs or kids menus (but I did not ask). The wait for food was not long but none of the food came out very hot. I'm not sure if we just didn't love the meals we got. If we came back, we would certainly try other meals that they offer. read more

My family decided on Cinder for dinner, it had good reviews and we haven't been in the area much. We wanted something near the water and it fit the bill! We got there and it's a great little spot, homey and nice soft lighting that goes well with the wood paneling and dark accents. They even had little table lights to bring over when it got dark (for those of you who use your flashlights at dinner). Now, the food: I don't think I have EVER had such flavorful food. Everything was made from scratch, we had the burnt end tacos on naan, the curry on grits, the smoked chicken tacos on naan, and the brisket chili. The menu is small but they truly have perfected their craft, and everything is reasonably priced. The only thing we didn't like was the bicycle thief cocktail, it just didn't have much flavor. Service was helpful too, 10/10 on everything! Definitely go here if you're looking for something innovative and delicious!! And if it is chilly outside, bring a jacket :) read more

Cinder is one of the most unique eateries that Westerly has to offer. Please don't miss out like I have for too long! As a local, I first off have such respect and admiration for the staff at Cinder. It must be noted that every single employee we have come in contact with has been so pleasant and friendly. We have stopped in on both a weekday evening and a crazy busy Friday evening and received the same warm and welcoming demeanor from everyone. They hustle and work extremely hard to make each dining experience a positive one. One of the head kitchen chefs personally stopped at each table to thank guests for their patience and to ask how their meal was despite the delay. This left a lasting impression on us. We were also checked on numerous times during our wait and meal, which went such a long way. Second, not a single dish has been a "miss" for us. The following dishes are absolutely incredible, coming from a semi-picky and non-adventurous eater: tofu tacos, tofu fried rice, brisket tacos, hummus platter, Caesar salad, cheesy potato taco, bahn mi, cheesy grits, naan bread, among others. The flavor each dish packs is both incredible and memorable....there is just nothing like Cinder in this area and this is quickly and delightfully becoming a staple in our dining out/take out rotation! The atmosphere is relaxed, unpretentious, inviting, and the location is picturesque being right on the river. We can't wait for our next meal at Cinder! read more

Wonderful experience! Came for lunch on a warm day and sat outside. Very peaceful to watch the Pawcatuck River roll on by. We had the Paper Plane and Margarita cocktails to start and both were refreshing, nicely balanced, and delicious. My spicy lamb naan tacos were superb and husband's smashed burger tacos were, in his words, Wow! Love the way they grill the Naan and it's not too thick. Two tacos per order are plenty--they're very filling. I guess some people come here and expect cheap tacos and then grouse about the price. Not justified! They don't make factory style fast food here. We loved our experience at Cinder and will surely return. read more

I'm an infrequent visitor to Westerly from Los Angeles, so I was thrilled when we came upon this delicious small, water-side restaurant. As a long time gluten free foodie w/a genuine allergy, I'm always excited to try innovative gluten-free options, which I feel the rice cake is. It's a bit crispy on the outside, soft on the outside, and flavorful. I ordered the GF Bahn Mi and the Caesar Salad, made with raw bok choy in a deliciously light sunflower seed caesar dressing. I should've taken a few pics, but honestly the food was helping me to forget how blazingly hot the day was, and thus I inhaled it. Really innovative, well-rounded flavor. Most of the restaurants I've been in recently are variations on a theme. A seafood joint, a pizza place, what makes a place different from one of the same genre. Usually not much. Cinder is different, very different in an especially good way. It's a barbecue joint, but it isn't. It's a sandwich shop, but it isn't. Meats are grilled to back and served on a naan that I assume are made in house. You won't find your typical ribs or brisket here nor will you find a burger or a ham and cheese sandwich. What you will find are unusual and tasty treats. I had the spicy lamb. Pulled grilled lamb on a naan garnished with pickled vegetables. MK had the chicken and a side of taboulé. The naans were great and the taboulé was fabulous, barley, not bulgar, with pomegranate and baby kale. Portions are a bit small so if your really hungry, order two. It will give you a chance to sample the unusual menu. Service was quick and friendly. The building is brand new with a sharp modern design. I can't wait to come back, especially in summer as it looks like the patio will really open the place up. read more

Fresh and delicious! I've eaten here twice in the last 6 weeks and the food was excellent both times (translation: consistency). The first time I had the Naan Lamb Tacos: wonderful blend of soft and meaty with the crunch of the fennel and radish. The sauce tied the elements together and the mint leaves added a pleasant fresh pop that reminded me I was eating lamb. The second time I came with my husband (01/08/23) and I ordered the Naan Pork Belly Tacos while my husband chose the Chicken Tacos. I'm not a pork belly person but this dish was delish! The cubed pork was tender, plentiful, slightly sweet with a crunch on the outside and the julienne cold veggies added a cool crisp to the warm pork. The sauce had just the right amount of a kick and the cilantro clippings piggy backed on the sauce theme of 'kick'. I omitted the sliced jalapeños as I don't like them. This dish is so flavorful and so fresh. Just yum. I didn't try my husband's chicken dish as I just didn't want to dilute what I was experiencing on my side of the table. He liked his tacos a lot but said mine had more flavor. This clean and just slick enough food haven deserves a visit! read more

Stopped here for brunch on 10-2-2022 while traveling through Westerly and in need of a breakfast. I was looking for a basic traditional breakfast, and I was almost scared away by the menu which consisted of mostly BBQ infused Tex-Mex breakfast bowls and burritos, and I'm sure glad I stayed! The breakfast burritos were spectacular! Service was great, the staff was friendly and willing to explain the menu selections in detail.
