Simple review: Fantastic! The interior is comfortable yet elegant. The acoustics are excellent. It was 80% full and yet not the least bit loud. Service was spot on. Always available - yet not hovering. After all that - the food was the best part of the visit. The pork chop was tastefully seasoned and cooked to perfection! The portions were generous. Yum! We came for happy hour and appetizers and then came back for dessert! For happy hour, we had the blood orange margarita and mai tai, and the mussels and hand cut fries. The drinks were great and not too sweet. The mussels were good, came with a piece of toasted bread and a peppery broth. The fries came with ketchup and two types of aioli. We came back later to hear their live music and have dessert. The singers were phenomenal. We ordered the thunderbird and a pomegranate martini. The pomegranate tasted fresh not artificial. The thunderbird was delicious, a foamy mezcal drink that was kinda like a mix between a mai tai and painkiller with coconut cream, pineapple, lime, and orgeat. We had a hard time deciding between the panna cotta and chocolate espresso mousse for dessert, but settled on the panna cotta. It did not disappoint! Made a reservation and was seated by the bar at a small table with small stools with no backs. I complained but was told this was what they had. This kind of seating is for walk ins not people who expect a table that they can sit at and enjoy dinner. We were going to stay but found out before we put in our order the dish I wanted , which was CHICKEN they were out of. Needless to say we never got to try the food but service is a good part of the experience. Not sure when it if we'll go back. read more

If you have time to move in with your blanket and pillow, then it's worth it to try eating here. we waited almost half an hour for appetizers and then another almost 45 minutes for our dinner I have such a long wait I would've expected fantastic food, but it was not. It was so-so. Grilled oysters were OK. My entrée was supposed to be a spicy shrimp dish and it was far from it. I gave two stars because they are fairly new and I'll probably still getting their stuff together even though at the time we ate there they had been open for five months. Our waitress was very sweet and kept coming over to check on us and updating us to the status of our food and ultimately the owner did because we waited so long. This was my family's first visit to Bird in Hand, we sat outside on the patio so I am not sure how the interior of the restaurant looked however the hostess stand and bar area looked nice and inviting. We were seated and it took a bit too long for our waiter to come and unfortunately his personal skills were a little lackluster.... I am not sure if he had multiple tables in the main restaurant and then was also given a patio table, that he seemed to keep forgetting about, we ended up asking for a decanter of water for the table that way we didn't have to keep waiting. For appetizers we ordered the Mussels and the Tuna Tartare, both had good flavor. When we finally put our main dish in to order my husband ordered the Gumbo, my son he Linguine and Clams, myself the Shrimp Po' Boy. The Gumbo looked good, I thought it would have more of a spicy to it, and a little bit more broth with the dish. The Linguine my son said was good the sauce was spicy but not overly so. My Po' Boy was good the shrimp were big! The tomatoes were really nice, it did seem like there was "too much" bread, I also could have used just a little bit more of the sauce on the sandwich. In all we may go back but probably in a bit Bird in Hand seems like it needs a little bit of growing pains to go through first as a new restaurant, the potential is there for a great place to get a great meal! read more

My husband and I went to dinner on a Friday night with two other couples. It was not busy, maybe four other tables. The waiter got our drinks without a problem. We ordered three appetizers and received them within 20 min. The ricotta with Meyer Lemon and burrata was amazing. The bread served with it was a bit burnt, but good just the same. The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful! The decor was stunning. They had music playing as well, beautiful. We waited a bit for our entrees. The burgers looked amazing, but my husband complained he could not get his mouth around it, perhaps a slimmer slice of the bread. My fluke was a bit dry and presentation was bland. This gem of restaurant in Westerly RI is worth knowing about. The vibe and decor is so sublime and inviting. We ordered excellent cocktails, shared a variety of dishes around the table, had lots of laughs, received great attention from the staff, and thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful meal that will not be soon forgotten. After receiving a positive review from a neighbor, I decided to book a dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday with family and friends from out of State at Bird in Hand. Upon entering, we were enchanted with the decor and the live music. Unfortunately, what followed was a singularly unique and terrible dining experience unlike anything any of us (who have traveled the world and also worked in the business) have ever experienced anywhere. After waiting 25 minutes to receive our cocktails, we then put in our order for appetizers which included a chilled corn soup, 2 green salads, a buratta salad and an order of mussels and at the same ordered our entrees. 45 minutes later, after multiple inquiries, the appetizers finally arrived. One of the salads had a long black, course hair in it and had to be returned and a side order was also missing. The replacement salad took repeated inquiries and another 20 minutes to receive. An hour and 45 minutes into our time at the restaurant, our entrees were nowhere in sight. At no time did any servers communicate with us about the long delay and it was very difficult to get their attention. One member of our party got up and approached the owner explaining what was happening. He did not seem to know anything and said he would check it out and come and speak with our table. When he finally arrived at the table, he had no explanation for the terrible service, the lack of clearing the table and just before that the server came over to ask us to remind her of our order. By this time, it was 1 hr 50 minutes after our arrival and our entrees were still not ready. We all decided we couldn't wait any longer and got up to leave. We notified the owner and advised him that we would not be paying for the appetizers and cocktails. He agreed and apologized but never offered an explanation of what had happened. This was our first and definitely our last experience at Bird in Hand. We recommend you steer clear. read more

We have dined at A Bird In Hand numerous times and have not been disappointed. The menu is seasonal so there is not a lot of choices but what they serve is fresh and delicious! They rotate the vegetarian dish and the Sunday breakfast is very good. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. Worth a visit if your in town read more
