After my samples I WAS SOLD!!! I decided on the Pick Two Meats of Brisket (lean and moist), Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage, some original and bourbon BBQ sauce, and a side of potato salad. What impressed me the most was the lean brisket...great flavor, bark, and while lean was still moist. Some of the best lean brisket I've had in a long time. The moist brisket was great with solid marbling and flavors while the Jalapeno Cheddar Sausage was delicious...just the right amount of heat and great cheddar flavors. The potato salad is a really good side and they take as much pride in their sides as they do in their meats. This place provides some legit BBQ!!! read more

So I ordered $50 in food and delivery. So I immediately call DoorDash as I ordered through the app. I get my order and the bag is OPEN. Not a staple or tape in site. So during a GLOBAL PANDEMIC your employees can't take the time to secure your orders for safety? I contacted the local number and got a "call center" allegedly. The person put me on hold and switched me to Jennifer (I think that was her name). After explaining that I wasn't another customer I explained my issue. She asks me what she can do to make it right. I explain that im legally blind and don't drive so I can't come and get anything. I took the time to call them to tell them that they are dropping the ball not securing bags properly. I don't care about how short handed you are in the store. If people weren't giving them business they surely wouldn't need staff. I don't need the sighs from anyone because they have had to work an open to close. I have done that myself but that's not my customers problem. Very Disappointed!!! I placed order via Uber Eats this evening. I ordered a sampler along with 2 orders of fries and 2 sandwiches. What I got was 2 thick slices of turkey, one sausage, some pulled pork and 3 tiny pieces of brisket. The last time I ordered the sampler, it was pretty much evened out with the meats. Also, the 2 orders of fries were soggy, almost burnt like they were cooked in old grease and was not the typical order of fries usually received. I spent over $50 and i am not happy about this. I usually get the Ribs by the Bone. Buying them separately 3 veggie platter and ribs seems cheaper. Love love love the peach cobbler. I think they use guave nectar as the sweetener. The Jacked Mac and cornbread pudding is life. The brisket is good but gotta have those edges done to perfection. Love the flavor of the rub. My parents always rave about city bbq. There isn't one near my house so when my sister and I were visiting them we decided to pick it up for lunch. We called in the order and everything was accurate and we had all our sauces and dressings . The staff was really friendly and helpful. I wanted something healthier for lunch because I knew I was eating pizza for dinner. I was surprised that city bbq publishes their nutrition and have some healthy options! I got the smokehouse turkey salad and it was huge and delicious. The turkey was really good. For the rest of my family we got a large bbq platter with three sides, okra, baked beans, and hush puppies. We also got a bbq sandwich and fries. We ordered a cobbler to split for dessert. For the love of all that is Holy, please Lord, take away the "BBQ" from this place. Amen. My wife tried this place last time in Charlotte, and enjoyed it. This was a different location. Ordered brisket and ribs with Mac n cheese, my wife ordered brisket and sausage with beans. The brisket was dry, no flavor and zero smoke. This should have been used for chopped brisket sandwiches smothered in sauce, cause it was to dry to serve as slices. Zero smoke flavor and the rub was sub par. Now the ribs, they were either yesterday's or had been sitting their for over 8 hours, and we had lunch at 1pm, they wernt busy. They were so dry and the meat was so tough, I thought I was eating the bone. I've seen better looking ribs from a gas station, a McRibb looks gourmet compared to this. I've literally screwed up some bbq that was more appetizing and tasted better then this. It was just bad. To be fair, the sausage was good, I liked it. But nothing to rave about. The sides were tasty, now, was it because the actual meat was so bad? Or were there actually ok? I don't know. But the Mac n cheese was good and so were the beans. Their sauce is good as well. It's rare to see familiar faces so I stopped going for a while. started back again and it was good. I went today and ordered the only thing I eat from there. brisket no fat, don't care if y'all like chewing and swallowing fat I don't. It's such a sluggish & gloomy/rain slushy day in the Queen City so my bff & I decided to try City Barbecue. I was undecided on what to order but it the cashier was very nice and suggested that I try a sample of the brisket. It taste deliciously tender with burnt ends. Bff and I shared a Queen City Sampler with Brisket, collard greens, and freshly made baked macaroni and cheese. We topped it off with peach cobbler. Scotty, made our experience the most pleasurable. The food was good but the sides really aren't a shareable size. The peach cobbler was delicious and the greens taste like someone's grandmother is in the kitchen cooking things up. This place is pretty cool. They have their own parking lot. Staff were nice, however move seriously slow. The food was good the atmosphere was welcoming and clean. It was a decent crowd for a Saturday afternoon. The banana pudding with Carmel sauce was not the best flavors to mix. The manager let us trade it in for chocolate cake which was a lot better. I ended up taking it home and putting it in the microwave which made it wonderful. They should serve the cake warm. I had the pulled chicken which was flavorful with the sauce added. This place fully delivers on their promise of being devoted to the craft of BBQ. As of right now, this is the closest location to me and is a bit of a hike but worth every mile. Bright side? They are opening a location in the University area in the coming months. Full disclosure: I got to try out this location a few months ago thanks to a Yelp elite event and was able to try the chicken, sausage, pulled pork, ribs, brisket, and a slew of sides. Not to sound hyperbolic, but everything was truly delicious. However, I found that the brisket was the clear-cut winner. For this visit, I went with the 'pick-two-meat option': pulled pork and brisket and an order of Lo's pulled pork sandwich. As the side for both, I chose the creamy cole slaw for one and the vinegary cole slaw for the other. While waiting for my order, I hit up the fixins bar. I scooped up a few of the sauces in to-go containers, as well as some pickles and red onion. I love this feature I got the two meats for my parents to enjoy and that they did. They are both extremely difficult to please when it comes to BBQ meat but found nothing to criticize with City BBQ. My meal was the pulled pork sandwich and I loved every bite. The cool, crunchy vinegary slaw added delicious texture to the smoky, juicy pork. Let me get straight to the point and start with the bad. I ordered the Judge's Sampler(to go) and they forgot my Texas toast. Yep, that's the bad!!! They forgot my freaking texas toast!!! Now I've had City BBQ several times and I've always felt it was the best in Matthews. Previously there was always something missing(wrong) with it and this was prepandemic. Gave it a shot and this was by far the 2nd best BBQ I've had in all of CLT and surrounding areas. It's no slight to them when I say 2nd best bc I LOVE BBQ and I've tried alot of different places. The brisket could have been cooked a little longer but that's a preference for me as I dont like the gummy fat. I also love to smoke brisket so I critique them more. It was delicious though!!! The chicken was done to perfection with being juicy but cooked all the way through. I'm not a huge fan of pulled pork but it was good!!! The ribs were by far the BEST!!! It was enough to feed two people maybe three. For sides I went with green beans, which was average. The baked beans with brisket and they were good. But the cornbread pudding was the winner! And this made not receiving my TX toast a little better lol. I have gone here about 5 times before and this was definitely the best. Living in Matthews, I had passed by City Barbeque quite a few times on my way in and out of town and kept making a mental note to try it, but never got around to it, until last weekend when I was craving BBQ and decided on City Barbeque to get my fix. Upon seeing the menu, I was pretty undecided on what I wanted, but eventually settled for my pretty "safe" go-to order for a new barbeque place, a pulled pork sandwich, with baked beans, vinegar slaw and a drink. The person working the register let me know they have a special called "light lunch" where the sandwich is only 1/4 pound of meat as opposed to the regular half pound, so I opted for that. I was surprised to find that for a quarter pound sandwich and two sides was $12! Definitely on the high end of what I've seen for a BBQ lunch, even from surrounding restaurants. That being said, the food was good. The vinegar slaw was very good (I'm a sucker for it), and the baked beans were definitely interesting. VERY sweet, thick and syrupy, drowning in the sweet sauce they're cooked in. The meat is good and the vinegar sauce is pretty standard eastern-carolina vinegar sauce (there are several to choose from, but this is always my go-to). The brisket was juicy and tender. The ribs were sort of dry but still good. The Mac and cheese was delicious, as were the collard greens and the sweet tea was perfect. It was a mistake that my partner has done at least three times and ordered food to be delivered from "City Barbeque" When we first came to Charlotte five years ago, we tried the food and the chicken was great but slowly but surly the food got so bad e couldn't eat it. We orderer to have food delivered early evening around 7pm. The Fries to say the least are a disgrace and look like dead worms that have been left out in the sun and taste really bad, Even the dog refused them and he eats everything. The Chicken has either been the leftovers from lunch and refied, they are brown "Dark" at first I thought that they needed to change the oil, now I'm thinking they've been reheated and /or the oil is old.. Holy BBQ! This place was bomb! I was hooked when I pulled in and I saw the takeout window had a sign that said "pig up" instead of pick up. I love a good pun! They have a lunch menu between certain hours that offers their classics in smaller portions. I got the lite lunch pulled pork bbq sandwich and a basket of fries that we shared amongst three people. If you download their app you can get $5 off which I definitely took advantage of. They have a rewards program inside the app that allows you to earn points to redeem towards items on their menu. That was a no brainer! I signed right up! The restaurant was popping for a Saturday at 11 AM. That's usually a good indicator that good food is to come. My favorite feature of City BBQ is their AMAZING selection of BBQ sauces. I'm a vinegar based girl so I was 100% into the swine wine but I made sure to sample some of the ketchup based sauces as well. Brushfire tickles my fancy. The lite lunch portion pulled pork BBQ sandwich was plenty filling . I couldn't imagine it needing to be any bigger but I guess I could take home the leftovers. My only complaint was that our fries weren't ready at the same time our food was and they said they would bring them out to us when they were ready. 15 minutes later we never received our fries and were almost done with our sandwiches. These folks have no concept of what the customer experience is like. The menu board is far too busy, graphically, and very difficult to decipher. If there are people behind you in the ordering line, you feel a lot of pressure to just order something off the incomprehensible menu board even if it is not really what the want. The ditz taking my order was completely oblivious to the customer having trouble with the menu board, of course. I got a pulled pork sandwich with vinegar slaw on it, and would have preferred a "plate" like at traditional Q places, but that is apparently not an option. I certainly could not find it on the menu board disaster. The food tasted good, hence one star, but the person who made my sandwich used a big spoon to dip out the slaw and put it on my sandwich, so all that excess liquid from the slaw got onto my sandwich. After a couple bites, the top bun completely fell apart due to the liquid. I had to eat my "sandwich" with a fork. Problem could have been avoided by using tongs to dip the slaw, and letting it drain for a few seconds before putting it on. Like I said, they have no concept of the customer experience. My visit basically sucked. I live nearbdon't plan on going back. I went back to City for the first time in 4 years recently to get take-out because my kids wanted BBQ. We got pulled pork with hush puppies and Mac and cheese. The food was good and the service was much better this time. They appear to have fixed the problems with the menu board. Collards w/Pork was as the same as above. The Sausage was snappy and hearty. Just as it should be. The Slaw, sweet though only Vinegar was mentioned, was fine. Not a sugar fan. It's poison. LowCo Mustard Sauce was also sweet, though the underlying flavor was perfect. The Gallon of Tea tasted fresh brewed without a hint of age. Fantastic. Unsweet of course. We really liked this place. We were visiting relatives in North Carolina and we're looking forward to having barbecue. Mike really wanted to go to a local place to have real barbecue and this was recommended to us. We actually ate there twice in five days and we enjoyed both times. I loved the corn pudding which was unusual for us and delicious. The brisket was very good. We also had baked beans and coleslaw and I loved the coleslaw. We placed a carry out order with CBBQ, and the food is wonderful. With plenty of sauce options, we ordered the "motherload" which is a sampler of all the meats they have, accompanied by several side dishes, and feeds 6 people. We can vouch for the motherload's capability of feeding six people, and for the deliciousness of the food. The only improvement possible here would be that the side dishes could be larger. For example, if all six of you want Mac and cheese, you'll need to order three Mac and cheese sides. Our order was ready within 25 minutes of us ordering it on a Saturday night, so the timelines of the food wasn't an issue at all. The mobile app was easy to maneuver ended up indulging on 2 combo meals with one side each and one pulled pork sandwich with fries . No one came out , they appeared busy so I called and stated no one has come out to bring us our order yet . Food is good, but customer service is terrible! Employees are too busy having personal conversations with each other, that they can't even lend a smile or a happy face towards the customer at all. I placed A pick up order two days in advance online. When I went by to pick it up, which was 15 minutes after the requested time, it hadn't even been made! I had to stand there and wait for 5 to 10 minutes while they prepared my entire order. Several tables hadn't been wiped off and the area with BBQ sauce, pickles, and hot peppers wasn't exactly clean - several of the the small cups used for sauce had some collard greens on them, and I'm sure they didn't realize it. My biggest issue was with the silverware: the containers held forks with the tines up(!) and anyone getting a fork would be touching all the other forks. I'm not about to use silverware that God only knows who's had their paws on. I asked for plastic ware, which was sealed in plastic wrap. read more
