My husband wanted to come here. I've never been here but I wanted to give it a try. Big mistake..The food was awful. It just didn't taste authentic. It was salty and just not good. Even the steamed white rice was dry and hard. How do you mess up white rice. The orange chicken was just ok. Some pieces were tender and actually had white meat and other pieces had no white meat and mostly breading. Also, they charged us $5 for Jasmine tea which tasted like water. It never took on the flavor of the tea bag even though the water was super hot. I think that they just use low quality ingredients in their food. The only thing I thought was decent was the Wonton soup. But also a bit salty. I don't recommend this place. Seriously! Save your time and money. On a positive note. Our server was very nice and accommodating. It's not his fault that the owners serve terrible tasting food. read more

I have been going to this place for 25 years ish. I walked in- there were four people there. I felt bad for the servers I have known forever. I ordered my food to go which by the way- I'm used to it tasting the way it used to- it didn't. It tasted like every other Sesame Chicken. I asked for green onions. They charged me $2.00! I didn't even get them- so I paid $2.00 for nothing. I asked for white meat and they charged me $4.00. The whole meal was $27.00 plus tip 32.00. For a small amount of take out sesame chicken and rice, that wasn't even as good as it usually is. It wasn't even the same color and it was undercooked like soft. They used to make it crispy. Terrible!!!!! I will never, and I repeat never go back. Apparently everybody else is complaining- the place used to be packed and now nobody is there and they switched owners recently. Service was good and the Szechuan chicken was yummy. I enjoyed their version of the orange chicken here as I like them sweet. Fried rice is good too. Sometimes I order only fried rice chicken and the Szechuan chicken since I only want to taste the fried rice as orange chicken overpowers the fried rice taste. But those three I mostly order here. I will never come back here again!! I had one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time at City Wok. From the moment we arrived, things started going wrong. I told them I had a party of 7, and they only set the table for 6. I had to ask for the tables to be re-wiped because they were still dirty. Before we even placed our order, a dish that wasn't ours was brought to the table -- clearly meant for someone else. That should've been my warning sign. When we finally did order, multiple things came out wrong. I asked for fried rice instead of veggies and was told it would cost $5 extra -- fine -- but I only received 1 fried rice when there were two ordered/billed. On top of that, my dad was given the completely wrong meal. It was frustrating and chaotic, and the staff didn't seem to care much. The worst part? I looked at the receipt and realized we were charged for two fried rice orders -- even though we never got any. I brought it up to the waiter, who offered a refund. Then I was told they'd have to refund the whole payment and re-charge the card. I agreed -- only to find that the second receipt was higher than the first one. When I asked why, the waiter had no good explanation and kept trying to justify the increased total -- even though he had removed an item. It felt shady and manipulative -- like they were trying to squeeze every last cent out of me. This wasn't just bad service -- it was dishonest. I left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and ripped off. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its customers. As if all that wasn't enough, when I went to use the bathroom, it was absolutely disgusting. Trash everywhere, dirty sinks. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned all day. Came in on a cold, rainy day and this place hit the spot. We started with the wonton soup and it was exactly what we needed, warm and comforting. The honey barbecue pork was my favorite dish, the perfect balance of sweet and salty. We also ordered the pork fried rice, a classic that never disappoints, and the CityWalk wings, which were sweet, salty, and spicy just how I like them. The time was 11:35am Sunday. I travel for business very often and look forward to eating here when I'm in town. Unfortunately, this morning I googled the hours and waited 15 minutes before I what I thought was the opening and came in through the unlocked door only to be greeted with shouts of 'we are not open yet'. I ran out quickly thinking I'd made a mistake. I pulled up the hours online again and went back in and was again greeted with hostility, and I told the gentleman not to be mad at me, but to tell someone to get the site updated and he just threw his hands up in the air and said it's been changed for a while..Who would know since hours are not posted on the establishment and the only source is online? I don't feel I should be made to be embarrassed when management does not feel the need to update its website according to the staff. I've ordered from City Wok regularly through Door Dash for years. My last three orders haven't included sweet and sour sauce for the spring rolls, any utensils or napkins, soy sauce, or fortune cookies. I know City Wok used to keep a bin with all these things next to the register for pick up customers to take, but drivers for delivery services like DoorDash DON"T KNOW TO GET THESE THINGS. I've been a customer for years and I've never had a bad experience. The food and service have always been excellent. I've only ordered to go so I can't comment on the ambiance as a sit down patron but whenever I come by I always heard content customers. The staff is great, in particular Jeremy and Noah. They take good care of my orders and surely others' as well. Had a sweet/cinnamon flavor profile to it that wasn't really what I was looking for. Extremely greasy and saucy, lacked vegetables and depth. $18 for this dish seemed a bit steep. Ultimately didn't finish it and didn't have time to switch it out for something else because was on a short and late lunch break. They did have budget friendly lunch specials, though! City Wok never ever disappoints! We have been coming here for over 20 years!! The staff have come and gone but we're still here!! Some staff we've known since the beginning. They used to be located on the corner of Riverside and Lankershim. Our daughter started coming here when she was in a baby carrier. She just graduated college last week!!!! I've been a regular customer for many years and I love the food, but I was there about a month and a half ago and I noticed that the chicken dumplings did not taste good at all... the inside, which was the chicken had absolutely no flavor, so I sent them back. I ordered the orange chicken and rainbow carrots and those were really delicious. Fast-forward, I sent a text to the previous owner, Stuart Davis, to let him know to tell the new owner that the dumplings didn't taste right. Anyhow, I decided to go back about three weeks later to dine in and I met the new owner and his name is Tai. I introduced myself and then he said " Oh, YOU!!" And I said what??? And he said he was offended by my complaint regarding the chicken dumplings. I told him that, 'look I was only trying to help because I really love the food here. I told him, if I was going to be mean I would've done a bad yelp review,' as I'm doing so now.' he then told me I am no longer welcome back at the restaurant and for no one to ever serve me ever again! read more

Been going here for eight years and what started off as a decent quality fair priced local joint has turned into a complete rip-off! The quality of the food has been declining steadily for two years, the doors are always broken, and it's dirtier every time I go in. The final straw was today, when they tried to give me take-out soup - they had changed from the sturdy plastic bin to a flimsy paper one that was at least a cup smaller in capacity, and didn't even fill it 3/4 of the way. This after a $2 price increase on it! It's now just bad overpriced food from a filthy restaurant. After I told them "no way" on the paper cup container, they offered to give me two small containers, but why am I going to give them ANY money after they tried to cheat me? So angry about this. I am going from a weekly customer to a former customer. Done giving my money to shady businesses who think it's OK to screw over their customers. read more

Decided to try this again .... Very disappointed....So I used to come here in 2012 and that was when I lived in San Pedro... that's how much i used to LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Their chowmein was like no other, it's crispy and perfect! But since 2020 the prices have gone up and the quality has definitly changed and not for the better. The Lemmon chicken used to be so good, same with the beef with broccoli , sweet and sour chicken and the chowmein... now it's just oily and mushy and gross and really lacks flavor. I'm super sad this place has tanked. For the prices they should make it worth while. Wish it could be back to how it used to be, don't know if it's a different manager or cooks or what but....
