The Chinese chicken salad was huge, with plenty of chicken and I loved the dressing and wontons, it was cold and not soggy. The Firecracker shrimp was really good, spicy and sweet, shrimp were cooked perfectly and well coated with the sauce. Broccoli was warm and al dente and looking vibrant green. Pretty decent Chinese food. My friend was coming over and wanted noodles. I just had Thai so I thought Chinese might be a good. I am weary of any Chinese places that have Wok or Panda in the name, but decided to give this place a try. Ordered via Door Dash but did notice that one dish was like $18! I ordered the Beef Chow Fun and the Singapore Rice Noodles with medium spice. Food came a little later than expected but overall it was decent. Ok, so I realized this was posted in 2011 and things change. At the time I hadn't realized we get a Studio discount which is awesome. Did you know they have an email newsletter and they send out birthday coupons and holiday specials and stuff? If you didn't then you will know now. I've been going there every few months since then especially with my coworkers. Their service is always top notch and their servers make an effort to place your orders. If you speak up, they will replace your items as needed. Then again, to be fair, I've gone during lunch so I've ordered both Lunch and Non-Lunch specials, but if you know which specific items to order, then it will be worth your money. They're not too terribly expensive, but most of their items are also shareable, so this makes it worthwhile. The place is usually well-kept and clean... what more could I ask for? read more

Came here after a long day at Universal Studios. It was recommended by my cousin. (As we were hungry and wanted something close to the theme park) I would say the food is subpar, nothing to special or too different. Definitely not authentic tasting Chinese. We went here because we had guests from out of town, and wanted to take them somewhere different. Honestly, could have just been Panda Express and it would have been the same type of food. The Sweet and Sour pork, while the sauce had the right taste the pork was overcooked and dry. The Mongolian beef was okay, under seasoned. The Honey Walnut Shrimp was gross. For spending $80 on this meal I can seriously say just go to Panda. You'll probably get a better meal. The quality of food is worth maybe half of what they charged. This place was within walking distance from my hotel. I opted to get something to go. I browsed the menu before hand, and decided on the Yang Chow Fried Rice. This is their chicken, shrimp & BBQ pork fried rice. The gentleman behind the counter was nice and took my order right away and said it would be 5-10 minutes. My meal was ready as promised. I asked for soy & hot mustard as an accompaniment. A 10 minute walk back to the hotel, and more putzing around, I was finally ready to eat. The entree was still hot. Chicken & pork were tender. Shrimps were good. And the hot mustard will definitely clear your sinuses. So, yeah, I was very satisfied. read more

I waiting a week to get here. I wasn't completely unhappy with everything, but the chow mien alone is enough to never eat here again. The noodles, oh I'm sorry, were they noodles??! Looked more like hair with a bad coloring.. What is Chinese food without chow mien! Anyhow! I also ordered broccoli steamed. The broccoli was great, but it came with beef. City Wok found that incredibly hard balance between authentic enough for Asian people, but also tasty enough for......umm.....whi.....non-Asian people. They're like always busy. There's a reason. I've tried a bunch of different things over the years and they've all been pretty good. I love Panda Express too, so you can probably guess my sentiment. Honestly, it's hard for me to decipher a good Chinese restaurant from Yelp. I can do that with pretty much any other cuisine. But this place will hit the spot. I went there for pick-up for my dinner. For thirty-one dollars, I got a quart of wonton soup, minced chicken in lettuce cups(iceberg lettuce cups), and a small container of steamed white rice. I was surprised at the speed of the service. I placed my order and started reading my e-book while waiting for my dinner. But after reading only three pages of my book, they let me know that my dinner was ready. I took them home. The soup tasted slightly salty but not too salty. Just enough to make my soup taste good. The dumplings looked firm but soft. They tasted perfect. The minced chicken didn't taste too sweet or greasy. They tasted well balanced with plum sauce and fried rice noodles. 3.5 stars When my bf first mentioned this place I literally thought he wanted to go to "City Walk."Not what I was expecting when I walked into this place. I thought it was like Panda Express. City Wok is a sit down Chinese restaurant. Their portions are big and meant to be shared. Each entree costing in the double digits. Service was great and we got in and out of there pretty quickly. Alright... So I had high hopes for this place as it looked good from the outside and the food images they had up looked decent. I know I know that they are precessionally taken. Yes I forgot to check on Yelp as I was driving home and wanted to pick up something to eat. So being generous I am rounding my 2.5 stars to a 3 star here on Yelp. Good things first. The restaurant is clean and it has an open kitchen with a small bar so that you can see into the kitchen. I was greeted right away as they have a sign for takeouts. It smelled good too inside. They only dish that was decent was the string bean dish. It was ok. Had a good kick and the string beans were not overcooked. But it wasn't like call you mom good, it was just better then the other 2 dishes that I had. :/ So let's begin with bad. I ordered 3 items. A chow mein dish, string bean dish (stated above) and a stir fried chicken dish. The chow mein had great texture but it was so salty, I had to eat it with rice. :( And the beef was tough and chewy with some pieces being more tendon/cartilage then beef. I never thought that I would be eating rice with my noodles??? Weird but it totally needed it. I also got the fire chicken. The chicken was more breading then chicken. Picture me sad as I bit into the deep fried chicken pieces. Also, I live about 5 minutes from there and by the time I got home, the chicken was a soggy mess. And they used way too much corn starch to thicken the sauce. The sauce was like extra breading it was so thick. And I like vinegar but that was all that I could taste was the vinegar.. I'm gonna guess that they put to much vinegar into this dish. Whoa it was so tart and so soggy. So overall, I will not be returning. It was an ok to sub par experience. I would rather eat at Panda Express for the quality and the prices. I bought 3 dishes to go and only 1 was full size and it cost around $40 for Panda Express level food. read more

City Wok is Americanized Chinese food. Think Panda Express meets Pick-Up-Sticks meets Chin Chin. It's a brown sauce establishment that serves pretty much every type of Americanized Chinese food you can think of. The flavors are simple and the cooking is greasy. This location in Studio City is in the same mall as the Ralph's and Starbucks. It's clean and dependable, but if you're expecting something unique or different this isn't it. What it is, is a place where you can get some of those traditional items like Yang Chow Fried Rice, Beef Chow Fun or their variation of orange chicken. This location looks more set up for take-out, but there is dine-in available and there's even a wine list for those that care. The Yang Chow fried rice and beef chow fun are basically the same dish with different carbs. The flavors is the same with the only exception being the textural difference between rice and fun. The orange chicken or what they call it the City Wok chicken was a disappointment. If you're expecting Panda Express orange chicken, this is not it. There is a good crispy texture, but when biting into it, it feels more like fat than chicken. There's a reason why Panda is known for their orange chicken because they executed properly at every location. This place felt like they didn't have that standard. Overall, it's not terrible. The service is acceptable and the location is convenient, but it's definitely not a destination and with the influx of more authentic Chinese fare into the valley, I do wonder if there is a place for City Wok in the future. read more

The service is amazing and even for a modest Chinese bistro in a shopping center the ambiance is perfect for just having a great place to sit down and get some work done on your laptop as you wait for an appointment at Wells Fargo or are disappointed as I was that the nearby Starbucks as no indoor seating. The servers and other staff are all very polite and professional and very helpful.
