Clarke's is located in a prime location right by Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market. It's one of those no frills type of bars perfect for grabbing a couple of drinks with coworkers over a burger or sandwich. I was seated in an area with only bar height seating surround by dark brown walls. It was not super busy when I went, which was on a Tuesday evening around dinner time. But then again, downtown Boston wasn't particularly busy at that time either. I got a cider and the chicken club sandwich. I think most of the burgers and sandwiches come with the Dublin fries, which was my favorite part of the meal. The circular pieces of potato were fried to golden perfection, and paired magnificently with the little packets of ketchup. Each bite provided just the right amount of crisp and softness. The chicken club sandwich was fine, it was served in a generous portion, with the slices of bread speared together with some toothpicks. I personally thought that the bread to sandwich filling ratio was a little high and would've preferred a more balanced ratio. There was so much food I had to pack half of my meal to go. If you're in the Boston downtown area and have a craving for fries, I'd recommend coming for the Dublin fries!

A coworker and I ordered lunch here today outside of being extremely expensive it was a huge mistake. My salad had one piece of mozzarella, Hardly any dressing and unfortunately it was packaged On its side. So I had to scoop most of this out of a paper bag. The other salad had no salad dressing on it. No utensils no napkins If you cannot handle takeout then don't offer it. You should not treat a Take out order any differently than you would anybody sitting at the restaurant. I am in the customer service industry so please do not tell me it's because you're short staffed.

    Chicken salad.

Food is good, bar staff super rude! As soon as I walked through the door, she ask if we need food menu, we said yes, we got a bar set up and then, I proceeded to the bathroom then she said I'm sorry you have to order first, I then gave her my credit card, she still insisted that I have to make a decision then and there. I still stayed and order chicken salad. They told me that they are doing their job. I guess I wasn't looking trust worthy. Edij

Popped in here for lunch and it really hit the spot. The burger is as classic as a pub burger should be in the best of ways. Really well prepared, and the potatoes were the right texture and plentiful. And both were even better with the side of bbq sauce I got which you should definitely get too. If it wasn't so pricey for a burger at lunch, I'd say it should be a regular event.

They do NOT honor these specials. I went on Thursday at 6pm to get the nachos and ended up paying full price.

Based on the food, I'm giving this place 5/5. The A1 burger was pretty delicious and I like the fries. I'd go back again.

Getting a reservation wasn't difficult, just make sure you get it a few days in advance. Everything here was amazing. Patio, food, drinks, service- no notes. We got the calamari meatballs as our appetizer. I don't like meatballs but I made an exception here...the ricotta is SO light and tastes so fresh. It went so well with the meatballs. The sauce was pretty complex flavor wise and was a delight to have. The meatballs were also delicious and we loved how everything went so well together. After we finished our appetizer, we were brought bread which we used to sop up the rest of the sauce. It was delicious. For our entrees, we got the swordfish and the aglio olio with scallops. Wow. This was my first time trying swordfish, but it was delicious and however they cooked broccoli rabe made me actually like it! It was so good. The aglio olio...tastes even better than it looks. SO good and such a massive portion. I got to ball out on leftovers the next day. The scallops were perfectly seared and went so welll with the pasta. It was so fun have calamari and garlic bits in the pasta...the calamari in it was truly unique. Thinking about this dinner is making my mouth water and making me hungry. Our waiter was great and attentive to us, everyone was having a good time and it was a really nice vibe on the patio. I'll definitely be back!

Our first visit to Boston. Our first visit to North End. We used Yelp! To pick out a dinner spot…read morebased on ratings and restaurant description. Even before we got to our spot, we saw this tiny little place with an open air kitchen and a line of people almost a block long waiting to get in. My wife commented, "that's the place we should be eating....". Now our dinner wasn't bad, but truthfully, being 1/2 Sicilian, I've been eating home cooked Italian food my whole life. It takes a pretty great plate of pasta to move the needle for me. Again, the spot we picked was fine, but I kept thinking about what my wife had said earlier.... The next evening we weren't in the North End, but we found out the place everyone was waiting in line for was called The Daily Catch, and the REAL great news was they had a 2nd Waterfront location close to where we were hanging.. we snagged a table for two and had the meal we were looking for the first night. P.J. was our server and he was fucking great. Friendly, funny and honest, he made great recommendations and we were NOT disappointed. I ordered the Aolio Olio with calamari and black squid ink pasta. Absolutely amazing! My wife ordered the Scallops and Linguine in white sauce and again, it was lights out. Four days later we returned to North End - for our last day in town - and remembering the line, we decided lunch might be the safer bet to try and avoid the crowds. Imagine our surprise when we were seated by P.J., who waited on us during our first visit. As cool as their waterfront location was (it was definitely bigger), their North End spot has just got this vibe.... Now the weather was PERFECT during our lunch - sunny and in the 70's. We sat just off the street and ordered the Lobster Fra Diavolo (P.J.'s recommendation again). Again, he knocked it out of the park... and the serving for one person was more than enough for two. It was literally one of the best plates of food I've ever eaten. The Daily Catch in North end literally seats 22 guests and is cash only. There were three staff working the tiny space, and the open air kitchen and super friendly chef (didn't get his name) all added to what ended up being a truly unique experience. This place is no joke. If you're in Boston, and you want fresh and delicious Italian seafood... look no further.

The restaurant has only about 20 seats, yet there was just one server responsible for everything--seating guests, taking orders, serving food, checking on tables, and processing the bill. The server was working very hard, but it was simply impossible for one person to provide good service for the entire restaurant. As a result, the service felt slow, rushed, and inattentive throughout the meal. It was difficult to get assistance when needed, and the overall dining experience suffered because of it. The food was decent, but not memorable enough to make up for the long wait and the poor service experience. If you're one or two people and just want to check off a historic restaurant, it may be worth a visit. However, I wouldn't recommend waiting a long time for a table. There are many restaurants in Boston that offer better food, better service, and a much more enjoyable dining experience.

As you can see from the photo, around 70% of the outdoor tables were sitting empty, yet we were still expected to wait over an hour. We were traveling with two children, and making families wait that long while so many tables remain unused is simply unacceptable. If the issue is staffing, be honest with your guests. But insisting on such a long wait when the restaurant looks nearly empty feels unreasonable and disrespectful to customers' time. We ended up leaving extremely disappointed. There are plenty of excellent seafood restaurants in Boston that value their guests much more than this.

Of everything my daughter missed, there was one dish she talked about more than any other: the Penne Gorgonzola at Carmelina's. Not friends. Not the Red Sox. Not even Boston itself. The penne. We recently returned to work the Feast of Saint Joseph, and before we unpacked, before we did anything else, our first meal had to be at Carmelina's. The look on my daughter's face after that first bite was worth the trip. She ordered her long-awaited Penne Gorgonzola. I stuck with my longtime favorite, the Brasato. Then the friend we brought along ordered the Bolognese Fettuccine, and despite repeatedly calling it "bolo-ga-knees" and bleeding my ears, accidentally introduced me to my new favorite dish on the menu. The addition of whipped ricotta completely changes the bolognese, adding a richness I never knew it needed. We finished with limoncello, a very happy daughter, and the best kind of dinner bill... ...one paid by someone else. Is there a better ending? Eight years later, Carmelina's is still my favorite restaurant in Boston and comfortably sits among my top five restaurants anywhere in the country.
