Clayton's Bakery is one of my favorite places on Coronado Island. The back patio is so dreamy & the food + drink are even better! I always opt for the breakfast burrito which is HUGE & can easily be shared. The bloody Mary's are really good & the coffee, as well. My friend and I spent a few hours enjoying brunch & drinks while playing cards. The service was excellent, the food excellent, and the atmosphere even better. I always stop here when i have friends visiting on the way to dog beach. Lovely spot. read more

Isabel was the greatest server! She had us laughing through brunch. Everything was delicious. The bellini and espresso martini were perfect! The freshest bagels and croissants. I got a Vietnamese coffee and a breakfast burrito. The portion for the breakfast burrito was big, but I think it definitely could have been flavorful. The Vietnamese offer didn't taste like Vietnamese coffee at all so would not recommend ordering. I came with a group and one persons entree didn't come out at the same time since the waitress made a mistake when putting in the order. They didn't offer to comp the order even though their meal didn't come out until after everyone else at the table had already finished. read more

The Bakery staff are SO NICE!!! They give you samples and always have the best recommendations for you!! They're so sweet if they're out of something you wanted they really try to give you the next best thing! I think they have the BEST matcha in all of San Diego, and their pies are just as good as their cakes! The banana cream pie is a must try! read more

5 stars for the ambiance of this place. I enjoy sitting here and having a tea. I love the outdoor seating in the back too. Also 5 stars for the Mary's Matcha which is a sweetened matcha hot tea... amazing!!! It's made with almond milk and has a slight hint of a sweet vanilla. I won't order anything else again because it's that good. Avocado toast is good. Just your basic avocado toast. The multigrain bread it's on is thick and moist which I liked. My friends liked the turkey Brie sandwich on sourdough and the açaí bowl. They also got the Nutella donuts and liked them. Looked like there was lots of Nutella inside! I like that they do full table service now rather than paying and sitting down with a number. I LOVE this place! ***The only thing I wasn't too crazy about was the mini strawberry champagne cupcake. I couldn't help but be reminded of Dave Chappelle while walking by this place. It also really reminded my wife and I of Twede's (or more commonly known as the Double R Diner). I was drawn to the Eggnog Cold brew, while she ordered a peppermint mocha, which was honestly the best I've ever had. Speaking of best I ever had. Let's talk about the Reuben. That was perfection. The marbled rye is gorgeous, the equation of thousand island and sauerkraut, the meat is cut thicker than most, it's perfection in every way. The wait staff was lovely, kind, and the food came out lickity split. Even thought I was stuffed to the gills when we left, I couldn't help but crave a banana split (and maybe a time machine). The only downside to this place is what I can only assume to be the AC unit. The food here is the best! Loved all of it. Service was friendly and attentive. We sat at the round table in the back outside. During our meal there was a strange gas-type smell at one point, others smelled it too and luckily it only lasted a little while. The other issue was the flies! Yikes! Please get some fly strips or fans, no one wants to be swarmed by flies during their meal. This restaurant has three seating areas; street front, inside, and outside alley. If you're looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, this is the place as they bake most of their own goodies. The roasted turkey and Brie sandwich $18.50 is shareable. A tad bland...could use a little cranberry aioli or maybe Dijon mustard. The house made kettle chips are good. The carrot cake is pricey at $12 but is easily shareable. It's really good!!! I loved this cafe! As soon as I walked in, I felt like I was in a European cafe. The coffee and desserts were amazing. Before leaving, I also got some focaccia and three different desserts to take home, and they were all delicious. Our server, Meral, was very friendly and professional. I had the grilled cheese sandwich with candied bacon, and it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time -- rich, cheesy, and the bacon added the perfect sweetness. I also ordered a chai tea latte that was balanced just right, not overly sweet like some places. Plus, the latte art made it even better. Both serious foodies As we were seated the server gave us three plastic cups of water... that was odd because they were like cups you give people that stop by for free water. We noticed that everyone else had gotten glass jars I didn't want to make too much of it so we looked at the menu and ordered. Wifey had the Dutch Boy. She loved it was just right for her. The lemon curd was a good combination. It was very different but tasty. Baby girl had the croissant, not sure which but it had eggs on it. And she said the egg was a bit over cooked. I had the Croque Madame and it was good. Just a little too much salty cheese. And the ham really didn't do it for me. Just a personal thing. I wouldn't order it again. The one thing that was a bit odd was the extra charge if we wanted hot sauce so we opted for the free Tabasco sauce . I actually saw a few plates found by with the same sandwich half eaten. It really wasn't a lot so maybe they just didn't care for it either. As a chef, I try not to be too hard on fella chefs. It's a French type setting and I'll just blame it on that it's French. We went to this place long long time ago, when you could order and pay for your meal at the register, and it was great. Today, I noticed this place completely different. It has servers and it is not at all a comfy space. Prices are so so high for what you get and food is, well not good at all. On top of that, service or "our server" was terrible. My daughter and I asked for 2 sandwiches. I especially asked for my bread to be toasted. It wasn't. When I told the server,, she told me that the bread was toasted. Clearly, it wasn't. Also, it was so greasy and I left more of half of it. My daughter's sandwich had turkey and it looked like they prepared it with cold cuts from the store. We were originally charged for 3 sandwiches, when we only had 2. When I asked the server about it, she told me that she "could" take the extra charge off the bill. Well, I said, could? I think you should. Ambiance was not pleasant at all. It is too bad. This place once ago, was nice. Now is expensive, has terrible service and awful food. Never going back. Had a friend in town visiting and we decided on Clayton's for brunch. We were so glad we did because we had a wonderful experience all around. Although it was nice outside, we sat inside at a cute little table with views of the back patio. We ordered the breakfast wrap, avocado toast, side of fruit, blueberry muffin and coffees. By the time everything we ordered came there wasn't an inch to spare on our little table and we were trying to find extra dishes to hand back to the waitress. We enjoyed every bite of the meal and were stuffed by the end, but the entrees stole the show. The breakfast wrap was very filling, stuffed with hearty ingredients, and a large portion in my opinion. The avocado toast was pretty standard, but hit the spot. They weren't very busy at the time and the service was a bit relaxed/slow, but we didn't mind as we weren't in a rush and were enjoying having a leisurely bite while catching up.
