Long overdue review but drove down to SD with my dad a few months ago and had brunch here. Super amazing experience - delicious food with huge portions and unique dishes. Interior was so tasteful and reminded me of dining in a European café. Just super lovely overall. We shared the Dutch Baby and Breakfast Burrito and I got a Spanish latte (probably one of the best I've ever had). Service was super quick and friendly and there was plenty of street parking. I come to Clayton's and the bakery next door all the time, I really do love them both! I will say, the food can be hit or miss, as per some of the reviews below, so I often prefer the sweeter options, but the pastries, both sweet and savory, are always so good!! The service is always above and beyond, and the environment is so friendly and welcoming, not to mention the cafe itself looks like you're walking into a cafe in Paris, so cute and quaint! Great place! I'm here for a couple days and run in to this place for matcha so decided to get some delicious food too! The sandwich was amazing! I loooove cheese even tho can't eat it as much as I would want to. This combination was so tasty and I would definitely finish it if I had more room in stomach. The interior looks absolutely gorgeous where you can see a lot of French culture. In general, I saw a lot of French on the island. This place was okay...I would recommend it to people who are very patient, and have time. In this situation I was in a hurry, the food took very long to come out and the servers kept apologizing. As I was waiting for 40 minutes the same song kept playing over again which made me even more annoyed. The only thing that gave this place some stars, was the delicious food! I didn't have time to eat it there because of how long they took due to it being the morning, the price for 4 was mind blowing! Coffee: 10/10 - I got the chocolate rose latte from the spring specials menu. I got it hot, without the chocolate, so basically a rose latte, and with oatmilk. It was perfection. Service:10/10 - every employee we encountered was friendly and helpful. Our server was especially outstanding because she dealt with my grandma who was initially in a cranky mood, unimpressed and was disappointed twice right from the start of our visit. She was disappointed about them being out of the almond croissant - not the servers or anyone's fault. The server remained kind and patient, and offered alternatives and recommendations. Ultimately, the server managed to turn my grandmas mood around and get a smile out of her. My grandma also enjoyed the dessert she ended up choosing. Overall, I was very impressed. I was also happy with the 2 recommendations our server gave me which was to get my latte hot, and to get the carrot turmeric bisque. Carrot turmeric bisque: 9.5/10 - only because I wish it was a little thicker and less runny. Flavor was perfect though. Ambiance: 10/10 - clean, calm, relaxing and enjoyable French vibe music, beautiful and well-maintained plants (lavender, rosemary, roses, vine/climbing plants, etc.) throughout. what a cute little find. It's located in Coronado area. You do have to find street parking but didn't take us very long. There's a small wait, probably 15 to 20 minutes. They were busy, but not that busy, however, they seemed pretty shortstaffed. Our server was amazing, extremely sweet, intentive and kind, but he was really busy and so service was slow. The food we got was good. I got the Dutch baby pancakes, which I've never had before. The homemade sausage which was also good. We got some fruit. My father got a croissant sandwich which he loved. My mom got a veggie wrap, which unfortunately did not come out with our meals and took a long time to come, we ended up wanting to cancel it, but it came right as we said that and they ended up giving it to us for free. That was really nice of them. It is a very good restaurant, they're very upfront and honest. They also have a side bakery attached to the 9restaurant which serves cupcakes, cakes, scones, bagels, among other sweet things and coffee. It's a little expensive but not terrible. They have outdoor and indoor seating. That would say the food was really good and above average, but given the slow service and screw up, I did have to give it four stars. The entire staff is very nice, including our server, though, they were really overwhelmed, I think. I would definitely come here again. The server was unbelievably rude. It was a gentleman and he acted offended to have to serve us and do his job. He was a complete bad word that I can't put in a review but mind blown. At one point after waiting almost an hour for our food he told us "you can go check on the cooks if you want to yourself" "my apologies for not being fast enough for you this morning" when we asked why it took so long for the food to come he said "I'll make sure to reprimand our cook". He acted like a snob with a stick up his butt and deflected blame to everyone around him. His over the top niceties were blatantly fake, passive aggressive, and an act. I've been here twice and review is overdue. Idk I have been obsessing with European style dining since my daughter came back from the Europe. Hopefully I can visit next year. I absolutely loved this bakery restaurant its small space but charming. Drinks: ordered Mexican mocha it was perfection great flavored coffee and Bloody Mary was amazing it's a hangover cocktail drink and hubby enjoyed it. Food: avocado toast was good and Summer frittata my all time fave it's an Italian egg dish with veggie very tasty and filling. And I'm also a big fan of sweet treats like beignets you can eat this for breakfast or dessert. It tastes lightly sweet and fried donuts with vanilla and powdered sugar. Hmmm incredibly delicious! We waited at their to go window, so that we could pick up food to bring onto the beach. This place is a brief walk from the beachfront which is really nice. My partner ordered a spicy sausage egg sandwich with potatoes, an espresso, and soft serve. The food definitely has the appearance of diner food, but he said overall the food was pretty good. My family & I came upon this cute little place as we walked through Coronado & decided to give it a try. It's diner style is what got us to come in. I ordered a grilled cheese with sweet potato fries & a tomato soup. My grill cheese was delicious & cheesy but my fries were a bit on the cold side as well as my soup, it was just warm & I was hoping it was hot. Clayton's Bakery is one of my favorite places on Coronado Island. The back patio is so dreamy & the food + drink are even better! I always opt for the breakfast burrito which is HUGE & can easily be shared. The bloody Mary's are really good & the coffee, as well. My friend and I spent a few hours enjoying brunch & drinks while playing cards. The service was excellent, the food excellent, and the atmosphere even better. 5 stars for the ambiance of this place. I enjoy sitting here and having a tea. I love the outdoor seating in the back too. Also 5 stars for the Mary's Matcha which is a sweetened matcha hot tea... amazing!!! It's made with almond milk and has a slight hint of a sweet vanilla. I won't order anything else again because it's that good. Avocado toast is good. Just your basic avocado toast. The multigrain bread it's on is thick and moist which I liked. My friends liked the turkey Brie sandwich on sourdough and the açaí bowl. They also got the Nutella donuts and liked them. Looked like there was lots of Nutella inside! I couldn't help but be reminded of Dave Chappelle while walking by this place. It also really reminded my wife and I of Twede's (or more commonly known as the Double R Diner). I was drawn to the Eggnog Cold brew, while she ordered a peppermint mocha, which was honestly the best I've ever had. Speaking of best I ever had. Let's talk about the Reuben. That was perfection. The marbled rye is gorgeous, the equation of thousand island and sauerkraut, the meat is cut thicker than most, it's perfection in every way. A tad bland...could use a little cranberry aioli or maybe Dijon mustard. The house made kettle chips are good. The carrot cake is pricey at $12 but is easily shareable. It's really good!!! I had the grilled cheese sandwich with candied bacon, and it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time -- rich, cheesy, and the bacon added the perfect sweetness. We went to this place long long time ago, when you could order and pay for your meal at the register, and it was great. Today, I noticed this place completely different. It has servers and it is not at all a comfy space. Prices are so so high for what you get and food is, well not good at all. On top of that, service or "our server" was terrible. My daughter and I asked for 2 sandwiches. I especially asked for my bread to be toasted. It wasn't. When I told the server,, she told me that the bread was toasted. Clearly, it wasn't. Also, it was so greasy and I left more of half of it. My daughter's sandwich had turkey and it looked like they prepared it with cold cuts from the store. We were originally charged for 3 sandwiches, when we only had 2. When I asked the server about it, she told me that she "could" take the extra charge off the bill. Well, I said, could? I think you should. Ambiance was not pleasant at all. It is too bad. This place once ago, was nice. Now is expensive, has terrible service and awful food. Never going back.
