All I can say is, "Yum!" Our maps app took us here instead of to the diner, otherwise we wouldn't have known it was here! We went ahead and headed to the diner for our meal, but stopped back at the bakery on our way to the car afterwards. It's not a huge place, but they have a very nice selection of goodies. I got two items and my friend got four, and every one one of them was outstanding. I forgot to take pictures, but I had a vanilla lavender scone and the oatmeal cookie sandwich. The workers were friendly and patient as we tried to figure out what we wanted. On another visit maybe we'll order some coffee and sit and eat some treats right there. read more

Wow! We love Clayton's Diner and was quite surprise they had this bakery. We live in AZ and come back to Coronado every year end of summer or during the holidays. My husband was born and raised in Coronado and introduced me to Clayton's Diner, their Mexican food and donuts. One day we were walking by and saw this adorable sign. So I had to go in and get my mid afternoon latte and pastry. What a delight it was just stepping and saw all the beautiful cookies, cakes and pastries. I felt I was in Paris. I bought a cupcake, monster chocolate chip cookie and a macaron. I sat outside and devoured all the deliciousness and washed it down with my coffee. I went back inside to view the cakes. I bought a small cake for a niece's bday. Then I thought to myself, well my son is getting married soon here on the island. I wonder if they'll bake them a cake. So I admire the vintage cakes and took lots of photos and my soon to be daughter in law agreed to order their cake from Clayton's. I contacted Clayton's and they're baking a small wedding cake for them this month. It's been nice talking to the ladies there. I'll post an update after the wedding. I can't wait to see their creation. In the meantime, we will order breakfast food, pastries and coffee the morning of the wedding while the bride gets ready. So try Clayton's Bakery. Delicious food and beautiful setting. Of course it's San Diego! The only complaint we have is that the service was a tad slow. Not bad just a little bit. Bakery goods were also excellent. We had two soups and a sandwich and everything tasted fabulous. read more

I brought my sister and brother-in-law here for brunch. We ordered first (before you sit down) and sat in the front. Little did we know, there's a cute inside and back area! I have a favorite table in that restaurant; I hope I keep getting that table... This is a French breakfast resto with a separate bakery next door. There's only one food that I tried that was mid, but everything else was great. * Coffee is great per my husband. He tried 3 different types, and he loved it. * Butternut squash soup was delicious, but it's seasonal. * Croque Madame was delicious. * Grilled Cheese is not your standard oily one, but better. If you want to recreate it, they sell the Japanese milk bread they used on it next door. * Beignets are the best in San Diego, but it's best to be eaten right away. * The crepes looked small, but I got full. Ordering a side of fruits helped. I also asked to add strawberry to the crepe, which they did; no questions asked. * Housemade chips had the right crunch and saltiness for me. It was addicting, and I wish my husband can make it for me. I've been forgetful these days. But I remember I was pretty happy when I eat there. The bakery next door gets full when there's a long line to the restaurant. But they have coffee and pastries if you can't wait. You can also order the pastries inside the restaurant. * Carrot cake is delicious. I got it for thanksgiving because I don't like pies. But they also have pies. But again, I don't eat pies voluntarily so I cannot review their pies. * Pistachio macarons is delicious! So crunchy and flaky and full of flavor. * My husband said their cookie is good. Parking is street btw, but we never had trouble getting one nearby. Don't listen to my review so you don't flock to this restaurant. But then again, I want to support it so I can keep going here. During our day trip to Coronado Island, we stopped at Clayton's to get some breakfast on the way to the beach. We ordered a bagel with cream cheese, hot coffee and donut at the take out line. Had no idea how long we had to wait to get a bagel and cream cheese. After waiting about 20 minutes, my wife simply asked how much longer it would take and the attitude on the response did not seem very friendly at all as I observed the exchange. Then after waiting another 10 minutes, the server at the counter yelled out to my wife and told her to pick up the bagel and then almost threw the bag at her and said in quite a nasty and sarcastic tone "have a nice day". I was upset since my wife cordially just said thank you. I was ready to say something but honestly was not worth wasting time on. When we opened the bag at the beach we saw that the cream cheese wasn't even spread on the bagel and they just gave a cream cheese packet with no plastic knife and no napkins. Not sure how they expected us to spread the cream cheese which we thought would just be on there. Donut was pretty good and coffee was ok. Just the service and overall experience was forgetful. read more

*4.5 stars I would give this place 5 stars for the cinnamon honey latte alone - it was amazing and delicious, and better than the one I ordered from Clayton's Coffee Shop! The Mexican mocha didn't disappoint either. Food was good - had the breakfast burrito although it needed hot sauce (which by the way was really good) to make it stand out a bit more. The dutch baby was good with lemon curd and berries, although I haven't had one in awhile and didn't realize the consistency was almost like a quiche. I would have never thought to order pigs in a blanket, but we wanted an extra side and these were delicious; somehow the sausages were bursting with a lot of juice. We sat on the back patio which was very peaceful and quite in the early morning. I highly recommend getting the Breakfast Wrap Burrito and the beignets! I found this place on yelp while looking for a breakfast place to try in Coronado. We got here on the holiday morning, so it was pretty busy, luckily we missed the big line right after we ordered. The place is very cute, very frenchy. They have some tables outside in the front as well as in the back. We ordered a dutch pancake, croissant sandwich, and avocado toast. The avocado toast was a little bit disappointing, with the price tag of $14 plus $2 for adding an egg, we expected more. There was barely any avocado as it was spread so thin. There was only one piece of toast. My croissant was ok, there was no flakiness. It was pretty mushy. The dutch pancake was pretty good, we didn't add berries but added maple syrup. With everything plus 2 coffees, it was $61, which is pricy for a casual cafe place, but it's in Coronado. They are also dog friendly, I ordered mini cupcakes for my pup, and she loved it. Overall, very cute place and the service was quick even tho it was very busy. I think it's a nice place to come for coffee and maybe pastry instead of a full-on breakfast, and that's probably what I would do next time. read more

Amazing menu, ambiance, decor, food, and drinks! I ordered a Dutch baby pancake with the lemon curd, and fresh berries. It came out in a cast iron skillet fresh, and hot so flavorful! I'm glad this isn't close to home because I would be there EVERYDAY, and my waistline wouldn't appreciate that (haha)! The drink I finally decided on was the honey, cinnamon latte, and oh my goodness it was delightful! My hubby got piggies in a blanket to share so I tried that, and was nice. The only reason I am giving this place one star is because of the service. I have never seen such an unorganized, chaotic restaurant before. You can really tell management has a major problem. To start the food I ordered today was very bland! Not an inch of salt and overly priced. After speaking with some employees I learned that croissants are purchased frozen and sell them while being said everything is home made. The brownies tasted great but remind me of a Duncan Heinz brownie mix. I also asked in the bakery what type of flour is in the gluten free muffins and was told that they purchase the batter premade and can't give me an actual answer. Overall this place is really lacking, the homemade, rustic French bakery is just a description that they want to be.I really hope they take customers advice seriously and make better decisions. Because it seems that the COO is trigger happy when it comes to negative reviews. Instead of putting down the customer that paid for such an awful experience you should take it into factor and actually take it as constructive criticism. This is such a gem! We discovered it only last Dec and been coming frequently ever since for breakfast and/or brunch. FOOD: Their food is very yummy and so are the pastries. They give you a nice big cup of a latte, and we'll-made no, not the "coffee+milk latte" you get at Starbucks. AMBIANCE: The place is very lovely and the back patio is super cute. Almond croissants are my favorite pastries. Unfortunately the croissant I purchased at Clayton's Bakery & Bistro was the driest croissant I've had since I can recall. It actually tasted like it was a day or two old. It's not a good sign when the croissant crumbles all over the place when you take each bite. The ends (as you can see from the photo) we're inedible. They were sooooo dry and hard I threw away the one end. And since I purchased this to-go I did not have the opportunity to speak to management and request a refund. They should be ashamed to sell this level of quality pastry for $6. read more

I live locally and used to come here once a week with friends and family. This is always the place I recommend to friends and visitors when they ask for the go-to spot. I'm known by my friends for only ever wanting to go to Clayton's Bistro! However... we went here for breakfast today for the first time in several months, and we were so disappointed by the service. The gentleman in the front who seated us was absolutely amazing, and he even asked us if we needed water for our pups and was aware of our needs. Our waitress was really not the best, sadly. I know what being a waitress is like from experience, so I'm able to look past missing the mark in a few places because of the other influences on your ability to service well, but this was every aspect of our experience that she missed. She forgot everything we asked for, never brought us water, we paid $5 each for our cups of coffee and she never offered a refill... we waited FOREVER for her to ask us for our order, and then she never asked if we needed anything else, and we sat there for about 20 minutes waiting for the check. And they were not busy until we left because we were there early on a Saturday. So I can't even say I understood because they were busy... there were many empty tables. I hope the service is addressed because I want to be able to recommend Clayton's Bistro without saying "but the service is very poor." read more

Brunch at Clayton's is a MUST when I visit San Diego. I've gotten something different almost every time and am always impressed. The vibes, food, and staff are all great! The beignets are great to share with the table. The roasted turkey & brie sandwich is great for lunch. And if you're really into breakfast sandwiches, the egg, sausage, & cheddar sandwich is great on a croissant with their garlic aioli. For coffee, a honey bee cortado is the way to go. I won a gift card for Clayton's and had never heard of it before. I was told it was a great place. I went today and the place is so cute and quaint. There was no wait, we sat outside on this beautiful day. The server was very friendly. My friend and I each ordered a Mexican hot chocolate and an iced vanilla latte. Both were so good! We also ordered a turkey and brie sandwich and a gourmet grilled cheese, we had 1/2 of each they were delicious, huge portions we couldn't finish them. They have a bakery so we each ordered a cookie to go. We both really enjoyed this place and am so grateful for the gift card, without it I would have never known how great this place is. Food is okay. Had a crepe and it was overpriced and something I could easily cook at home. Atmosphere is very well done with French inspiration, outdoor seating, and good place to sit with a friend. My biggest qualm is the staff wouldn't share the Wi-Fi password while I was having a business meeting. They definitely don't want you to stay and hang out. I popped into the bakery to pick up 2 slices of carrot cake for my husbands birthday and found the counter help to be unhelpful and unfriendly. It doesn't matter how good the product is if service is not pleasant. There was no greeting so I had to wait until I could see her behind the counter and asked for her attention. There was only one slice of cake, she didn't mention a small carrot cake on the shelf above so I enquired. She dropped the packaged cake on the counter opposite the register, said "Here's your cake" and walked into the back. Not a thank you or even a smile.
