We were delighted to find a great seafood restaurant within walking distance of a condo we stayed at. Our server was great, professional without hovering. The food: macadamia crusted grouper on mashed Yukon gold potatoes was outstanding. A friend was raving about the coconut shrimp that she chose as a smaller option with a salad. Wine list prices were well within range and included some popular choices. We're planning to all come back to sample those coconut shrimp! read more

Best food in town. I highly recommend the macadamia crusted grouper. The crab cakes are so full of crab meat! The sauces and accompaniments are very flavorful. Wow just when you thought you are it all. First of all Andrea our server was perfect with suggestions, timing and just plain pleasant I've been around domestic and international and this place is in my top 5. From the starter appetizers to the end with a chocolate martini coupled with a wonderful atmosphere it was the closest I have had to a perfect evening. If I to pick 1 highlight of the culinary experience it would be the trout almondine. The photos won't do it justice but the pride the entire staff is just old school commendable. We found a place called Clayton's right beside spearfish grill. Seems to be reopening.. Service and food were phenomenal. Everyone was pleasant and polite. Clayton even made his way to our table and greeted us. We had two appetizers calamari and goat cheese with sweet tomato jam in a jar. They were both amazing, but the goat cheese spread was 10/10! Scallops with homemade gnocchi was fresh and light. I loved the gnocchi it was something different to have with scallops and I loved it. Cheese burger with special secret sauce cooked PERFECT and tasted fresh! It was great. I had a really good glass of cab red wine and if you're a caymus lover like me, try juggernaut! Ate here on Friday nite with a group of 4. Our server was Fred who was affable, efficient and attentive. We shared the meatball appetizer. I had some seafood chowder, a large Clayton salad and the shortribs with risotto entree. It was a very generous serving--even had to take some home. The only thing I didn't like was the broccolini that accompanied the short ribs. I was not told that this was a standard accompaniment of the short rib dish, and it was not listed on the menu, otherwise I would have asked to substitute something else. But everything else tasted great and we all enjoyed our meals. Key lime pie for dessert. Parking was a little iffy and it was a little noisier inside than I would have expected. Would like to return and try some other menu items. read more

I've been here more than once and I can say the consistency with the service and the food is top notch! You can not come to Clayton's without ordering the mussels but better get it quick because the broth is changing. We had the tomato, chorizo, cilantro broth and it was the best around. The sauce and the bread is more than you can imagine. To add to the incredible starter, we had the Osso Bucco special. This cut of meat was lean, tender and falling off the bone into the tender rosemary polenta with a tomato sauce. WHOLE STEWED TOMATOES! It was an incredible experience. Leah was our waitress and she was attentive to our needs. Hot bread, quick service, the wait staff had our water filled and our needs met throughout the meal. If you do not take advantage of this establishment you are missing out on Siesta Keys finest. Take the extra 100 steps to get to Clayton's----it's worth it. read more

We were excited to try this place but were severely disappointed! We came in around 5 thinking we could get some drinks and appetizers before going to a later dinner. I want to start by saying from the outside it honestly looks like a dive bar with seafood (and I don't mean that in a bad way) but once you go in, you can tell it's a wannabe upscale restaurant, but the interior is not actually upscale. Upon looking at the menu, we each ordered a glass of wine and were brought room temperature white wine. First strike-- for $15 a glass, you expect it to at least be cold. We then the ordered the crab cakes and each a cup of the seafood chowder. For $18, we received 1 crab cake. The menu clearly called them crab cakes so the two of us were a little surprised to be sharing one small crab cake. At that point we decided we were done there. The second we let the waiter, Fred, know we were just there for apps and drinks, he was completely uninterested in our table and service was not up to par. Overall, if you're looking for a small, expensive menu in a very meh restaurant, this is the place for you. $80 later..... Well, do yourself a favor. Go to Captain Curt's. read more

We have a decent dinner here while in town. We had made a reservation several weeks in advance but still had to wait about 30 minutes for our table. Our server was super nice but he seemed slammed and I'm guessing they were short staffed like many places these days. Food wise the food was good but not amazing. They were out of a few things, which was disappointing. I opted for the salmon, it was good but kind of boring. It didn't have a sauce or much pizzazz to it for the price. Very interesting bar. If you're not a local at this place you may wish to move on. No names here, but it's been suggested by people at the bar that we could find other places to go after visiting several times and apparently taking local's seats. Actually told us where to go! Went here to celebrate my daughters 16th Birthday and everything was fantastic !! Fred was our server and made it so special. Fred is the best server we have had in a long time!!! We have been going to Claytons for years and have always found the food and service to be quite good in the past. Things obviously have changed, and not for the better. The four of us had drinks, appetizers, and entrees, one of which was a burger. The entrees were priced at $18, $28, $28, and $32. All of us felt that our meals were bland and without flavor. Had it been only one meal, we would have assumed that it was simply a bad choice. But for all meals to be poor, it tells us that things have changed for the worse. The server asked us how our meals were, and we gave her our honest opinion. The manager then came by and said he wanted to remove the charge for one item (and it turned out to be the cheapest entree). Had he comped all the meals, as he should have, we would have given Clayton's another chance. Under the circumstances, we will not be back. read more

In town for a long weekend with friends who've been here before. Got seated right away, chose our own table on the patio on this beautiful Saturday morning. Ordered the Sarasota omelette which had avocado, feta, spinach and tomatoes. I then also ordered the special stuffed French toast because I love dessert at breakfast. One word UNBELIEVABLE. Thick delicious French bread stuffed with strawberries, bananas, blueberries, pecans and whipped cream. Didn't even need Maple syrup on it.
