Had my birthday dinner here with friends. It was super crowded and not easy to get in and wait for a table. Very noisy because of the crowd. I LOVE the food at Clayton's and have been coming here for years since our family has owned on the Key. The one issue we have encountered multiple times is how they seat customers. We are told that they have a 30-45 minute wait for a table for 4 when there are hardly any tables taken. We will ask if we can sit at the high top by the bar and they say yes. That's not the issue. We have 2 smaller kids and every time this happens and we sit at the high tops, the 4 seater tables are NEVER touched. No reservations, no last minute families seated, just vacant. I have documented this because we have friends and family always asking for suggestions. Another issue is how they treat families that have kids and may stay longer. My husband and I come FREQUENTLY because we own on the island. We have been asked if we could "wrap it up" on more than one occasion while we are still ordering drinks and dessert for the kids. We have never heard of a 1.5 hr time limit at Clayton's AND we tip on alcohol since we are taking up space and time. This is why we don't suggest this place to visiting friends or family. Good food is one thing, but etiquette goes even farther when it comes to recommendations. I hope they come up with a better system. read more

The meatless meatloaf over mashed sweet potatoes was surprisingly delicious, and the asparagus was perfection! Al Dente as it is supposed to be! We also ordered the majority chicken with fingerling potatoes and asparagus, and it was mouthwatering, as well! Totally enjoyed the experience of dining at Clayton's Siesta Grill while in Siesta Key this weekend. The drinks and the food were amazing (get the PEI Mussels as an appetizer!!) and our server, Becky, was top notch. We sat outside on the screened-in patio as it was a beautiful evening. We order the Florida Mule and the Pomegranate Martini to start, along with the PEI Mussels as our appetizer. So glad my friend recommended we start with the mussels. There were plenty in the bowl and the sauce was absolutely heavenly! It was a mixture of tomatoes, fennel, leeks, kalamata olives, feta cheese and fresh basil in a compound butter mixture - heavenly indeed! The bread provided with the meal was perfect for dipping and savoring this combination. I heartly recommend the PEI Mussels. We then order two small Clayton Salads (also shown on the menu as "Farmhouse Salad", I believe). They were a very nice size and included julienne carrots, baby heirloom tomatoes and feta cheese along with the lettuce. The best part was the balsamic basil and local honey vinaigrette dressing, which Becky shook up for us and allowed as to put on as much as we desired. Finally, we shared the Cauliflower Steak, which was a full cauliflower head covered with miso cashew cream, wild mushrooms and baby carrots and served with a sweet pea risotto in a chimicurri sauce. I'm not a vegan, but this meal was excellent and there was plenty of it. We even took some of it home for later. Clayton's has been our go-to for out of town guests for a couple of years and it's thanks to excellent seafood options and also bc unlike other restaurants Clayton's has consistently offered exceptional vegan entrees. First the food! Tourists usually want to go to the best seafood restaurants and Clayton's has consistently offered fresh seafood for my visiting friends and family. Many places mostly offered deep fried fish while Clayton's offer more upscale seafood without breaking the bank. Lots of restaurants in Sarasota offer seafood but precious few offer solid vegetarian and vegan options other than a salad. And that's why I always choose to come here with guests and why other restaurants lose my business. The interior is very nice and it can be a bit loud during the busy times - which is why we will opt for their great covered patio. It's a large outdoor patio with fans and drop down shades in case the sun becomes annoying. We love the interior and outdoor dining options here. Casual restaurant with an upscale menu. Cloth napkins are a plus. Three of us had reservations and were seated right away. Glad we had a booth in the corner as it was crowded and loud. Our server was Nathan and he was awesome. The seafood chowder is creamy and delicious. The crab cakes were all meat with very little filler, accompanied by a jicama slaw with carrots in a nice presentation. My friends had the bucatini alla pescatora and a margarita pizza and raved about both. The menu has a variety of appetizers, salads, a rib eye steak, grouper, and pizza. I don't know why I was so surprised by claytons when it has good reviews and a good menu, but I was surprised by how much I liked this. Came with my mother and fiancé and sat on their patio, which is shaded and dog friendly. They have multiple gluten free and vegetarian options, though I skipped those this time I went with a pomegranate martini (delicious) and the mahi tacos (blackened) and brussel sprouts. Both were very good. I have found that blackened fish at a lot of places tend to be bland. Either their blackened seasoning isn't the right blend or they don't use enough. However, these tacos were very tasty, especially with the green salsa that it comes with. The sprouts are cooked in bacon and were awesome. My fiancé got their garbanzo bean meatloaf and really enjoyed it. My mom got the almond crusted trout and loved hers. The entire meal and the service from start to finish was great.
