Not impressed I was very excited to go to CC for my acne flare up and just left feeling disappointed. I basically wasted the entire 20 minutes I spent there. Left the office and an hour later made an appointment elsewhere. The 19th street location is very nice, clean and modern. The girls who greeted me at the front desk were very polite. I waited about 3 minutes to be called in and waited another 10 for the doctor once inside. The young lady who escorted me in, was also very polite. I was actually not seen by a doctor, but a PA which is not a problem but she didn't do anything. She gave me her work history spiel, to calm any concerns I had about her not being a doctor. She asked me a few questions which I think I had already answered on my pre- appointment paperwork and to which she scribbled the answers on a post it note. Things were looking up when she said ok let's examine you but then she literally stood up in place, leaned in ever so slightly and said "ok" and sat down again. That was the extent of her inspection. Based on the information I gave her she said I had hormonal acne, which I knew already and didn't have to see a dermatologist to determine. She immediately suggested a few prescriptions and the services they provided such as a $450 peel which according to her (and the other young lady who also shamelessly plugged it) does wonders! The whole thing was very matter of fact, this is what you have and you should do this and goodbye. I didn't feel like my issue was addressed, it felt more like "use our products and come back in four weeks to see if it worked". I think the nurse/assistant spent more time with me than the PA did. The worst thing she did which is actually inconceivable and a clear sign that she is not someone I would recommend or even go back to was when I asked her to see a mole I had which I was concerned with. She responded that she could do a body scan "another time". I'm sure to look at one mole, not an entire body scan would've taken 1 minute (especially for her!) and she just brushed it off. I would think that's more concerning than any other issue such as acne. It just felt like she was not interested in doing anything more than suggest their services. I thought of just getting the meds and going elsewhere for a real solution, but I can't even have them filled because they wrote someone else's name on the prescription! Big oversight. I have been to dermatologists in the past that actually inspect, do extractions and even give you shots to help current acne if necessary. And most certainly will look at a mole which may turn into a much bigger issue if not addressed. I will definitely not be returning and have already made an appointment with a dermatologist in the area that actually helped in the past. With some residual post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (fancy way of saying 'dark scars'), I finally decided to take the jump and try a peel. I wanted something simple (just in case) and a trusted friend recommended this office, so I made an appointment. Dr Kleinerman was fabulous! She had a very calm demeanor yet warm infectious smile, so it really help put me at ease. She asked me throughout the procedure how I was doing and if I found it tolerable. She made it all seem so easy and simple. I was done before I knew it and was able to attend to my afternoon errands without any obvious redness or peeling and thus no embarrassment! The next couple days I had some peeling just as she had explained/forewarned. Fast forward 10 more days and I definitely noticed a difference. I would get this peel again with her. A friend of mine is crazy about the Clear Clinic products and kept recommending I order them. Ever since moving to Hawaii my skin has been oily and I break out a ton. She said their adult acne kit worked for her when nothing else did. I got excited and ordered one for myself. I was charged $175 for the kit and it never came. I kept checking my order status, and it said "processing" for weeks. After two weeks I emailed the company. Over a week later I got a response saying it was backordered and they would send it today. Two weeks later my order was still processing. I tried to call to ask them to cancel my order, but the Clear Clinics website has NO phone number listed. I ended up calling the Schweiger office asking them to cancel my order. They said someone would call me back to confirm. Instead I received an email a few hours later saying "Your order has been refunded." No call. No explanation. No apology. I'm especially disappointed because I heard such great things about their products! read more

Best customer service in a clinic or any form of medical centers i've ever experienced in NY. And trust me, I've been to many dermatologists before. Personally, I've been a patient of Dr. Hammerman for a year and a bit and let me say, he knows what he's doing. And more so, he's very attentive, helpful and an innovative dermatologist. More persistent than my skin problems, were the doctors here at this clinic at finding the right cure. IMO, this clinic is a model for how other practices should be run. 5 stars and cured! read more

My first review stands for that experience, but I have to add... After my disappointing trip to the Clear Clinic, the managing staff has offered the absolute best of customer service in response. I received a call as well as a follow-up email asking me more about my appointment...with absolutely zero "please amend your yelp review" guilt-tripping and no lame attempt at justifying the negative aspects of my experience. I was actually asked to explain MORE of what turned me off about my visit so that they could make positive changes. Seems they really care about their reputation and their clients. Everyone was completely lovely and understanding and it made me want to try again. I received a consultation with the aesthetician Jane (who is also completely lovely) which is one of the things I was hoping for the first go-around. Grace Nguyen, PA-C, is a dream. Follow her expertise and you will be on the fast track to facial nirvana in no time. At 25, my skin took a nose dive and I was at my wit's end, when I scheduled an appointment at CC. Ms. Nguyen is polite, thorough, and prompt with her prognosis. Miraculous results are not immediate with acne; it takes time for the results to be seen. But soon after following her advice and returning for regular checkups, my skin has become something I enjoy being in. I cannot recommend her enough! My appointment with Jane at the Flatiron location went great, I wish I can say the same for my visit with Dr. Shah at the financial district location. Even after my first visit with Dr, Shah which she barely looked at my skin and didn't even ask me to take off my makeup, I still made a second appointment to start PDT teatment beacuse I have heard great reviews about clear clinic. Dr, Shah's assistant (Erica) was great! Dr, Shah was very nice but I didn't find her to be very professional. Dr, Shah made me feel very nervous when she was turning on the machine to start my blue and red light treatment. She couldn't figure out something about switching the timer on and made comments like as if something had went wrong. I also didn't get to talk to her after my first treatment because she was in a rush to leave because her nanny had to leave. There was five miniutes left into my treatment and she comes in to tell me she has to leave because her nanny needs to leave. I took out the time from my day to travel between two of the clear clinic locations to get treated and I probably had a 3 minitute interaction with the Dr, Shah who basically didn't do any of the work beside turn on a machine. Erica her assistant applied the medication to my face prior to the blue and red light treatment. I did call the Flatiron location to see if I can treat with a different doctor at the Flatiron location instead of the financial district location and have not hread back from them yet because they told me they need to make sure it's okay with Dr. Shah. read more

JANE MACKINNON is absolutely brilliant. I'm not one for adjectives either, so trust me. I have had zitty, blotchy red skin since I was ten and seen numerous dermatologists, facialists and alternatives of the like. After working with Jane for three years (and continued upkeep) doing multiple peels and IPL, my skin has completely changed -- it's thicker, softer, more egg shell even. She can handle many kinds of skin types. I've seen it -- She gotten my boyfriend's skin more even and soft and she has also done Ulthera on my mother, after which her neck boldly tapered. I trust her to know what's best. She stays up to date on current products as I don't have time to do the research. Frankly, she is my skin guru and I would highly recommend her. read more

I found Clear Clinic on ZocDoc because I no longer work in the Financial District, so going to my dermatologist down there would have been a hassle during work. I have been really stressed out lately and it has been showing via the lovely craters on my face (also have been working out more and sweating more haha). I wanted to meet with someone to give me cortisol shots in my zits to help speed up their recovery, but also discuss some sort of prevention methods since I am getting married in 5 months and want my skin to look nice. I walked into Clear Clinic and it was very aesthetically pleasing - very modern and clean looking. OK, that's fine with me. I did notice that everyone there seemed to be extremely young, which again, I didn't mind too much but did take notice. I met with the nurse first and explained why I was there and she relayed that information to the doctor. Similar to another Yelper, I was never asked to remove my makeup and my skin was never examined. I was explaining that I have combination skin and that in the winter my skin gets extremely dry (so much to the point where I need to layer my skin in moisturizer at night to prevent peeling). The doctor made some suggestions on skincare, which seemed fine but I didn't feel there was much effort into actually looking at my skin and determining what would be right for my skin type. She did inject my zits with cortisol, but she did not squeeze the excess out like my normal dermatologist would have. And when I mentioned this to her she said that she didn't think I needed that. I guess we will see how these heal. She prescribed me a cream and said it could dry out my skin a little, which was worrisome to me since we just had a conversation about my skin being combination and can get severely dry, but I decided that I would just fill the prescription and give it a shot. I went to the pharmacist and I was told that I owe $70. I was not paying $70 for something that I have never even used on my face before. I was really annoyed at this point and texted my fiancé that I will probably need to take the trek down to Goldman Dermatology because at least he knows what he is doing. But, I then decided to call them and ask them to prescribe something similar but generic so I didn't have to spend nearly $100. They called me back and told me that they called in a prescription for Clindamycin for me. I was completely in shock considering on my paperwork where it specifically asks you to list any antibiotics / medications you are allergic to I clearly wrote out Clindamycin! When I responded, "I am allergic to that! I wrote it on the form......" the girl then asked someone a question and said, "Have you ever tried Retin A?" That is when I lost it - I remember going into detail about my skin being extremely dry.. why in God's name would you suggest Retin A which is NOTORIOUS for drying out skin?! I just told them to forget it and hung up. Honestly, I am not wasting my money filling a prescription by these people. It's like the blind leading the blind. Sorry, but this place is a total joke. I paid my $40 copay and I hope that my zits disappear. If not, I will just take the train down to FiDi and see a real doctor who actually knows what he is doing. read more

I've been going to the Clear Clinic for almost two years. First, it was to address acne that I developed in my early 20's. But after the amazing staff cleared up my acne, I continued to go for all of my dermatology needs. Skin cancer checks, anti-aging concerns, and the occasional acne outbreak or laser treatment. They're pros at acne, cosmetic and everything. I love this place. They're attentive, high-tech, friendly and very accommodating. My favorite PA is Jessy Ayala - not only is he super nice and super knowledgable, but he always, always responds to my calls or emails if I ever have a question or need clarification on something. I'm a freak about my skin so I can't express how helpful that is! I'm used to doctors that try to shuffle you in and out in two minutes and Jessy isn't like that at all. He like actually cares. I live around the area and was looking for a good dermatologist because I had a few cysts pop up on my face. I was just passing the clinic by and booked an appointment because i thought that the receptionist was super nice. The clinic itself looks very modern and clean, with cute little shop on the front. My appointment was on July 19 with dr Grace Nguen and I thought that she was one of the worst doctors I've ever seen. She looked like she was having a bad day and wasn't nice at all which made me feel uncomfortable. She gave me a half assed full body skin check up and told me that the elevations on my face are moles that have to be shaven off. Which I'm not sure whether it's correct as my plastic surgeon said they are cysts. My second concern was enlarged pores on the cheeks and she said it's hereditary although "There is the ointment called Tretinoin in our shop" she said which might be of help as it unclogs the pores. I asked her to write it down which she did on a piece of paper. I thanked her and said that I'll think about shaving off my moles or cysts and Grace Nguen then just walked out of the door :) OK I got dressed and went back to the reception which is the same room with the shop. When passing by, i could see that dr Nguen was in the other room on computer. I looked for Tretinoin on the shelves of the shop. I couldn't find it and asked the receptionist to help me find it. She told me that Tretinoin sounds like a prescription medication to her. She called the dr (there was like 3 minutes TOPS between the end of my appointment and the call) but Grace Nguen already forgot everything she said about Tretinoin and why. "it might be something she JUST wrote down" receptionist says. Ugh, WHAT?????? How does one forget that so quickly and confuse prescription ointment with non-prescription, it doesn't make any sense! They also told me she is with another client although i clearly saw her online 1 minute ago and there was no other patient. Well. I asked them if i could please have Tretinoin prescribed if it's a prescription ointment. They said they will and that they will call me back. It's been more than a month now and I'm still waiting for the prescription, they never called me back either. The worst attitude by far. I'll update whether she was right or wrong diagnosing those elevations on my face as moles. Because they look like cysts. Anyhow, thanks dr Grace Nguen, I don't want you to shave anything off my face. read more

Aside from a long wait time, the doctor seemed little unorganized and jotted down my medical history on a random wrinkled paper during my visit. The place seemed very focused on generating money from cosmetic procedures but not the worse experience just yet. But it became terrible the next day when the receptionist called me to "collect payment" (thats the word she used) for procedures I did not receive. When I explained that I did not receive the procedure, she told me its simple error that happens often because the doctor sees more than 30 patients a day. I recommend the doctor to use the medical chart and file for her notes in the future. read more

I would like to HIGHLY recommend Jessy Ayala, PA at the Clear Clinic. I have had cystic acne for nearly 12 years, have visited several dermatologists, and have tried (literally) every possible medication - even a full year of Accutane treatments. I'm currently 27 and it hasn't let up - if anything it's intensified to my lower jawline. I was nearly going to give up after all these years, especially after all of the money and time I've poured into acne medications, treatments, doctors visits, blood tests - you name it. Thankfully, I read similar reviews on the Clear Clinic and miraculously ended up under the care of Jessy. Immediately Jessy knew of a medication that I had not tried that people with similar conditions to my own have experienced success with. I have now been on Spiro for about 3 months and - for the first time in my life - have seen DRAMATIC improvements. My family and friends have all commented. It's shocking. There have been many dermatological offices I've visited in NYC and none have amounted to the service, class, friendly greeting and more importantly the outcome I was looking for for my acne. Two years ago, I was seen by Jessy Ayala PA at the their lower Manhattan location for mild acne/eczema and his treatment style let alone knowledge was different and impressive compared to others. He genuinely cared and didn't try to rush me out as other HCP's do. My adult acne is being controlled and I have not had any flare ups since. Yesterday morning I met with Dr. Hoai-Nam Nguyen for a follow up appointment. She is the only dermatologist I have met with who was actually able to help clear my skin. (I've been struggling with acne ever since I started using birth control pills, which did a ton of damage to my skin... so annoying, right?!). Acne is an embarrassing topic, but Dr. Hoai-Nam Nguyen made me feel at ease and I was able to tell her everything... all my trials and tribulations. I booked my appointment at 8:30AM, was taken in immediately, and was at work at 9AM sharp (no lies). It has been a great experience going to this center and if you are struggling with embarrassing acne and if over-the-counter treatments aren't working for you, I *highly* recommend visiting Dr. Hoai-Nam Nguyen. I booked an appointment here online through zocdoc, and when I saw that it looks like a high-end cosmetic store instead of a medical facility, I almost balked. I was relieved that the doctor (Emily Mintz) did not try to sell me anything. She prescribed two (topical) medications that I picked up at a pharmacy; both of which were covered by my insurance. So those treatments didn't work, but I was keeping an open mind for my follow-up appointment. The problem is the receptionist. On my first visit, their system was evidently down and she couldn't run my credit card for my co-pay. Okay, no problem. She had enough small money to give me change if I paid cash, but she didn't want to do that (?). Without asking permission, she wrote down my credit card number, expiration date, and CVC code on a post-it note, saying that she would run the credit card later. I told her that I was not comfortable with that (?!?). She eventually took my cash and told me she would enter it when the system came back online. I had to ask for that post-it note of identity/credit card theft info back, and she never sent me a receipt for my co-pay. Two months later, same woman. I rush out of work to get to my appointment on time, but even though the clinic feels empty (there's just one customer who is trying to decide how much of the expensive product she can afford) the receptionist can't be bothered to check me in. I wait for 10 minutes while the receptionist does absolutely nothing to alert any doctor, anyone to my presence. Finally she acknowledges my presence, says she will be with me. I wait. She does nothing. She asks me to sign an acknowledgement of their cancelation policy. She does not check me in. She does not tell anyone I'm now late for my appointment. She starts talking to a doctor about another patient. If I were this bad at my job, I would be fired. Actually, I'm a teacher - if I were this bad at my job I would be on the front page of the New York Post. I live in New York. I can find another dermatologist. read more

Meh. While everyone was professional and friendly, it felt pretty assembly line. The PA never examined my skin and gave me the usual spiel, which I've heard umpteen times as an adult woman. I left with a few prescriptions I'm unlikely to fill and no new treatment plan beyond what I've been doing and researching on my own for years. I thought a dermatologist-sponsored clinic might be more innovative and attentive, but I've had better luck with med-spas. read more

fellow acne sufferers PLEASE AVOID this place. it's painful enough having bad skin. you certainly don't need to be fleeced in addition. i went here for a cortisone injection for a large cyst and i was left with THE WORST cortisone atrophy scar ever. it is the size of a dime and very deep. when i asked the doctor about it she said - it will fill in in time. B.S. i would rather have the cyst. i look like i've been bitten by a shark. they don't listen to you, they move too quickly, their treatments are kind of bogus, and all they want to do is sell you on a monthly subscription for LED light treatment. this place is a scam and definitely to be avoided. please go to REAL dermatologist instead, i promise you will find real help elsewhere. I'm really really upset - never get cortisone for a cyst - at least not here, at the hands of Dr. Mintz (she is part of the practice here)i am disfigured now. read more
