Friends and I enjoyed one of our final meals of 2023 together at Clearman's Steak 'N Stein. It was a first time visit for all but one of us and the experience overall was great. The service was friendly and attentive, the food was plentiful, and the overall ambiance of the establishment was memorable. Clearman's Steak 'N Stein is located in Pico Rivera and has a free parking lot located behind the building. We came in on a Friday evening for dinner and, even though they were busy, the parking lot seemed to have more than enough spaces to house all of the cars. The layout of the restaurant provides both a bar area that is cleverly sectioned off and a dining area with several rooms. The amount of space the restaurant holds is initially deceiving, but they seemed to be able to sit and serve many parties comfortably. As noted above, our server was wonderful. He was friendly, patient, attentive, and quick with requests. The meal overall was good. Every table was given a basket of their cheese bread to start the meal. It was delicious! I had to hold back from having multiple servings. I ended up ordering the Steak and Shrimp combo, which also came with a salad. I appreciated how they brought out three different dressings for us to choose to our liking. Our main meals were assembled table side. This was a unique and personal touch that I wasn't expecting but appreciated. The portions were huge. My Steak and Shrimp combo came with a 9 oz sirloin, three shrimp (I ended up selecting them to be coconut shrimp), a large and fluffy baked potato, and onion rings. Everything complemented each other perfectly. The server brought us fixings for our potato to share at the table. It was heaven. I was a little disappointed with my steak. It was dry, tough, and a little cold. Hoping it was an off day or perhaps it was an end-of-the-night hiccup since it seems like steak is one of their signature things they serve. Came here 8/27/25 for 65th wedding anniversary as we have been doing every year since our wedding and having had our wedding supper here. Sorry to say we were disappointed in the food. The service is always good. The ambiance is pleasant and as expected. The cheese bread is typically a highlight but this time the bread was not fresh and the flavor not as good. The baby back ribs were overcooked and dry though the BBQ sauce is good. The mahi mahi fish was dry and overcooked. Typically, due to our celebration dinner, we will receive a delicious ice cream sundae dessert. But not this time. Not sure we will be back as in the recent past we have felt the food quality has declined. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The bartender got on my nerves a little though. We sat at the bar, waiting for our table. The bartender was a nice, old-er gentleman, and he kept teasing me about my drink order. I asked if he could make an amaretto sour from scratch, with egg white! He sort of looked at me sideways, "eggwhites?? You want me to put raw egg?" I was like oh god. One thing I do recommend to the owner of the restaurant is to train the bartenders on preparing higher caliber cocktails. Although I notice most people opt for a martini, beer, or a whiskey mix, or tequila, it would be great to know I have a place o can depend on for a delicious cocktail. Especially given the grandeur and table side service of the delicious dishes, I would love to know cocktails just as good are available to match. I went a second time (different younger man) and ordered a pear martini. It was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!! The vodka tasted like gasoline. The pear flavor was way too syrupy and tasted cheap. I returned the drink and the bartender said, "I haven't had complaints before." Which of course isn't a response I cared to hear. Yes - the bartender services/ drink quality needs work. Went to have our 46 anniversary and was told what a great place to dine. We were set when we got there had drinks and ordered some calamari. When it arrived it was like eating warm rubber bands. For dinner I ordered a NY strip and my wife had broiled halibut. When each got a salad came warm, then dinner. Her fish was a broiled brick and the stake what was supposed to be medium was burnt dry and shoe leather was easier to chew. The onion rings that came with dinner were greasy spoon special. When we walked in we waited a few minutes to be greeted and were told it would be about a 10 minute wait, which we were sat pretty quick. Upon sitting we were greeted by a server who was very quick in wanting to get away from the table. We were sat right next to the fountain which was nice. The ambiance was nice, very quiet. We ordered right away...we had mentioned we had never been but have been to north woods. She should have explained how the two differ. Once ordered food came out pretty quick. Food looked great and was excited to cut in and start indulging. WELL either the meat was too tough or the knife was super dull. The food exceeded my expectations; the filet mignon, though ordered well-done, was surprisingly good, and the wedge salad, despite being overdressed and lacking bleu cheese, showcased the restaurant's potential. I'd give the food a solid 4, though the menu selection was just okay. However, the decor created an awkward atmosphere for a business lunch. The place was exceptionally dark, lacking even romantic candlelight. The red Christmas lights and a lone fountain contributed to a more Halloween than Christmas vibe. It was unexpected and a bit bizarre. On the positive side, the service was good, with a helpful waitress who navigated us through the menu, though the unnecessary flame "show" left me more nervous than entertained--might be better for the restaurant to do away with this "show", which consisted of the waitress dousing a grill in oil and taking a match to it. Overall, this spot is a decent choice for those craving steak above Outback or Black Angus but falling short of Morton's. The value surprised us, given the bill's affordability for wine, filet mignon, a wedge salad, and shrimp cocktail. I will say this is not suitable for a business lunch. The value is definitely there. Prologue: After watching the history of New York's organized crime families, decided to go have the Dine L.A. lunch special at Stean 'N Stein, which was fortuitous! Haven't been there in a while, but it carried the classy, dark steakhouse vibe, which got a boost from a fine mix of 50's and 60's tunes that would come straight out of 'Goodfellas'. Full financial disclosure, the prix fixe Dine L.A. meal was $35, Manhattan at $19, and coffee at $5. Food: Salad was crisp and came with their always-pleasing red cabbage salad, and cheese bread. These are the staples that will always be welcome to my tongue and belly! Now what made them very interesting were the dressings: Ranch, Bleu cheese, and French! All three are house made, and I tried the French and Bleu cheese. The French was slightly sweet with a nice vinegary tang that went well with the crisp house salad; a very fine choice! T tried the Belu cheese, and all bets were off! I am a cheese person, so this dressing had nice chunks in it and a thick creaminess that clung little flavor droplets to each piece of lettuce, red cabbage, crouton, or any combination thereof, and it was incredible! Nothing against Ranch, but that may be next time. The potato is massive and the first thing the wait staff informed me is to say 'when' when they put the butter in the potato. Now this is not drawn butter, but chunks, CHUNKS of butter they forked into the starchy maw. Said 'when' at three, but caught the wait staff nearly forking the next chunk, which means, yes, they bring their delicious butter game to the 'tater! And then the accoutrements: finely diced green onions that gave a flavor and nice crunch to each bite; melted cheddar cheese that is NOT the standard convenience-store artificial epoxy, but a wonderful melted fromage that had a tinge of spiciness that was most welcome; and finally, the garlic sour cream that brought everything, EVERYTHING together! I did go overboard as my potato went from mashed innards to becoming the best potato soup ever created. This is not for the fainthearted, but the flavor of all three will definitely be worth the effort of bringing them together, and exceedingly filling, too! Ordered the petit filet mignon, and with it came the pre-show of a nice flambé before the meat was plated by the wait staff. Whatta show! And whatta cut of meat! So soft, so incredibly tender with a splash of juiciness, finished off with a delightful slight char to the outer crust. I love a bit of char, maybe not everyone's taste, but it made the meat have a depth of texture besides the incredible softness and meaty flavor. Oh, the senses were reeling! The Manhattan was a libation even the late Lucky Luciano would be proud to drink. It had an incredibly delicate flavor that the strength took a backseat to the slight dark-cherry flavor (to me, that is). It was smooth as butter and had a maturity that went wonderfully with the filet mignon. And it is a SIPPING drink, not one you sling back; and at 20 quid, every sip is worth the flavor and strength! Cheers! A desert came with the prix fixe menu, so the chocolate rum sundae, and it was delightful! Yes, the rum is in the chocolate, and when mixed with the cool creaminess of the ice cream, it came off as an insanely tasty dessert. Now had their very good regular coffee, and found the combination of coffee, chocolate run sauce, and ice cream the kind of concoction that exists somewhere in a coastal Italian city. Another swig of coffee and bite of dessert, and was feeling the Mediterranean breeze. I know the Italian desert palate does not use rum as a dessert liqueur of choice, but boy, this was an experiment in sweetness I can only pass on to you all. Overall, the food was perfect and nary a regret was made. Well, maybe one: not eating slower! Service: Two servers, of immense kindness and talent, helped make the experience at Steak 'N Stein more than a pleasure. Albert was knowledgeable with the menu and drinks, as well as very personable and professional. The other gentleman who helped Albert was his equal and ensured the experience remained memorable with great service. Ambiance: Steak 'N Stein is the last bastion of refined themed restaurants around, and is worth visits. Now if you're thinking 'Clearman's' and have memories of bench seats, peanuts thrown at you, and sawdust floors, this is NOT the place! The dark wood and brick structure either helps keep the romance alive or maybe a nice organized crime family gathering possible, but again, there are not too many places that demand respect and reverence like this establishment. The chandeliers bring in a nice vibe, and paintings add more light and class as well. The stained-glass windows throughout the area are a nice touch as well. If you are a fan of themed or restaurants whose ambiance stands-out, this is a must! This was a crown whose unique and delightful gems of service, food, and ambiance shone brightly! Tried this place for the first time on Valentine's Day, let me down big time. For the price, I expected better. I knew it would be busy, so we can forget about the wait times to be served, even though I had a reservation. The place is obviously dark, looks old inside, smoky as well. Anyhow, we did the fixed meal for 2 for $160 or $150, can't remember now. We had the Lobster and my wife did a steak. The lobster was Soo over cooked, it was rubber, dry....just terrible, no amount of butter could bring that back to life. The salad that came prior has some pieces of iceburg lettuce that were pretty much ice...we ordered the beef tips appetizer, charred!!! Come on now...I don't like returning food, but damn this should have been one of those moments. See the image attached. So, my mom and i went to this restaurant especially for the coconut shrimp. We arrived at 1;30 in the afternoon and were seated right away. Ethan the busiser was at our table right away. Oh, I forgot to mention how GORGEOUS the new remodel is.. Soo pretty! Anyway., we had Megan as our server today. We felt like we were in. Came here for a birthday celebration a couple of weeks ago and was excited to try the fish and steak. But honestly, the food is not up to par with the prices. Had the Grilled Salmon plate. The salmon was bland and not seasoned at all. My sister had the filet mignon, and had the same experience - bland and in need of seasoning. The cheese sauce that came with the baked potato was mediocre at best. The only items that were tasty were the steamed broccoli and red cabbage. The prices are similar to that of Ruth Chris caliber, but the flavors at Clearman's were subpar. I would much rather go to Ruth Chris. This review is not reflective of the service or ambiance. Extremely disappointing experience. We waited over 20 minutes after being seated without a single acknowledgment from the waitress--no greeting, no water, nothing. Meanwhile, the table next to us received prompt, friendly service with smiles and frequent check-ins. The difference in treatment was obvious and uncomfortable. When our food finally came, it was practically thrown on the table--sloppy and unappetizing, like leftovers scooped for animals. The quality didn't match the price at all. The whole experience felt like we were being judged based on how we looked, as if we weren't "good tippers." To top it off, our bill was $151 and I paid $160 in cash. The waitress didn't deserve a tip, but we didn't even wait for change--we just wanted to get out of there. Do yourself a favor: skip this place. Three of us had dinner at Clearman's S&S on July 9th. This was our first visit in 25years; in the past, Clearman's was our go-to restaurant. The service was excellent, and my fillet was one of the best that I have had in a long time. We've been going to Northwoods Inn for many years so we decided to travel a little further and try steak and stein. Cool throwback vibe interior. We split plate the prime rib The dinner salad was like room temperature, not cold. The baked potato was not hot enough to melt the butter and unfortunately the prime rib was just barely warm not hot; but was ok and thick and juicy. The bread was not as fresh as at northwoods. Well this place was the "GoTo" for family celebrations. After the revamp of their bar area (expansion) it has lost some ambiance. I used to like the big waiting room with the wood seats. Most are gone and it is now all dining tables. The baked potato and cheesebread were meh. They seriously downsized the potato ( used to be the size of the plate ) and the cheesebread had no spread on it. Our waitress was mediocre. Everything must change, I guess. I can't believe we didn't come here sooner!!! This place is around the corner from our home, but we have never experienced it. It's definitely the sister company of North Wood Inn, but the food customer service and ambience was amazing! Ashley was our server and asked us if we've been there before we let her know we haven't so she walked us through the entire menu gave us the best recommendations even to split a meal and we still took leftovers home. Efficient and professional waitstaff (thanks Desiree!) with carts carrying large portions. Food and drinks are good but not cheap. I tend to frequent the other Clearman's North Woods because they are closer to me but this place offers the Dine LA menu so this is what my review is on. Dined here yesterday for lunch and have to say the service and food here was amazing. Arrived around noon for their lunch offering. Plenty of parking out front and no wait when I arrived. I was seated right away with some patrons already in there. Sure enough 10 or so minutes later, everyone else decided to show up. Place was nice and crowded a few minutes into my meal. Good to see people trying this place out. I was given a regular menu but mentioned I was here for the Dine LA event and they quickly brought the other menus. I was offered both the lunch and dinner Dine LA menu and looking over them I opted to get the dinner version as I wanted their steak and shrimp pairing. The lunch was $35 and dinner $65. My two waiters were always around attending to everyone (one was getting trained) so I was quickly eating my salad and their delicious cheese bread. My dinner portion was enormous. As I had already started off with a caesar salad and cheese bread, a few minutes later my steak arrived on it's own little grill. Table side it was lit on fire and heated nicely. It was placed on my plate along with the shrimp and onion rings. The baked potato was prepared next with a tower of butter being presented and asked when to stop. I had to control myself on this part lol. It comes with all the usual toppings which you can pick and choose. Overall the food was amazing. There is even dessert offered at the end of the meal but I was stuffed after all that. Just couldn't continue lol. I would highly recommend everyone go give them a try for lunch. We had the best dinner at Clearman's. It is an old school steak and seafood house and it is great. Make sure you make reservations or you may find yourself waiting a long time. They also serve brunch and you should make reservations for that as well. I have not had their brunch so I can not comment, but I hear it is very good. Parking was easy in their lot and the hostess was wonderful. We were sat within just a few minutes of our reservation and a server was with us straight away. The service was exceptional. Our server knew the menu well and also had information about the wine list. We were checked on several times and when we were ready to go a check soon came for us. We were so happy with the service. The food was great. We shared a large prime rib dinner, cooked rare, and it was perfect as was the salad and baked potato. We also had a filet that was so tender and cooked perfectly. They have some great sides that you will want to consider. We saved just a little room for dessert and had sherbet, which was so good. We love this place and will be back. read more

My husband and I were at here this past Saturday. We decided to have a nice early dinner and sit by the bar and wait until the live music appear. I am not giving it a 2 start for the food. The food gets a 5 all is cooked to perfection as well as their Sangria. All went well, until our dearest server Savana decided to turn into a Debbie Downer. My husband and I sat by the bar and had dinner and drinks. We were all fine and well and then my husband orders his beer. Debbie Downer Savanna decides to tell us he has reached his limit and I have one more. I looked at her like her like, honey I didn't know you were the drink police. I think the lighting could be a little bit improved I understand that it is an atmosphere that they try to create. I have never had a problem with customer service or the food in there. A friend of mine introduced me to Steak 'N Stein in Pico Rivera. I was pleasantly surprised that another steakhouse besides the Dal Rae existed in this blue collar town. I was also happy that the prices are lower vs the DR, and the ambiance is more low key. We opted for lunch specials in the $30 range. You receive all you can eat salad, surf & turf (I ordered filet & shrimp), baked potato, and the best garlic cheese bread I have ever had. First of all, the salad is really hearty. You can have cabbage on top, and a nice creamy dressing. Likewise, the entree had a high quality steak, and the portion was large enuf for my big appetite. Lastly, the bread has lots of butter & garlic the way I like it. Regarding the ambiance, there is a bar to your left as you walk in. The bartender makes good dirty vodka martinis. Despite being casual, they have nice wines like Caymus and Silver Oak. The main dining area is a throwback to the 70's w/ dark decor. The service is your neighborhood kind of place that you would go to on a regular basis. In addition, we didn't get charged corkage on two bottles of wine we brought. He was confronting, unprofessional and disrespectful to our needs. We have never had this experience anywhere where a Manager is disrespectful when being escalated.
