No discarded peanut shells on the floor! The vibe is right up my aesthetic: Goodfellas!! Low light, gaudy chandeliers, older men bussing tables and refilling my water! Love it! The food was amazing! Hadn't been here in years. It was nice to see the bar renovated. I decided to dine at the bar. The bartender was sweet and attentive. I started with a couple Negroni cocktails, and ordered the rib-eye dinner. The plate is quite hearty for one with all the accompaniments. I especially love the crisp salad and red cabbage. The onion rings and large baked potato always completes the meal. The steak was cooked perfectly but lacked seasoning. The house steak sauce is a bit weird. Looks like a Pace salsa but tasted like ketchup. At the end I splurged for the chocolate cake, maybe my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Overall, a great experience. Nice vibe, hearty food/drink, and good service. It was nice to see this classic Pico establishment stay up with the times. I will definitely be back. Absolutely loved this place. The lighting is dim and the interior offers a very vintage vibe. The fireplace and live music adds the perfect touch. Service was great for our large party of 9. Food however was disappointing. Ribeye was served cold and wasn't very flavorful. Scallops were the smallest I've ever seen served as an entree. We went last night to celebrate Valentine's Day. I ordered a drink and swirled the drink around before taking another sip and noticed something dark under the ice. I moved it around some more and a roach rose to the surface. Absolutely Disgusting! I couldn't even eat my food after that. They told me that they think the roach got in because they had gotten fresh batches of mint but that doesn't make sense! Aren't restaurants supposed to wash things to make sure this doesn't happen? Went for lunch today and took a good 5 minutes for server to come over and ask if we would like to order a drink (not busy at this point). My husband said let's order our lunch when we order our drinks as we had a feeling service wasn't going to go very well. Ordered the Lobster tail and crab legs for our entree'. Drinks came out same time as food but forgot the limes for our drinks and no sour cream in container so had to wait for those. Once server came back with the limes and sour cream I had to ask for a small fork to retrieve the crab from the legs. Needless to say....my husband had to go look for a server to get a fork! So now cold baked potato and crab legs and lobster tail! We are not new to this place as we always ask for our favorite waiter ever Ruben but decided to come in earlier for lunch and he only works nights. Very disappointing to pay for probably one of the most expensive items on the menu had to be brought home to warm up!!! Didn't see server again and had to ask for help for containers and to cash out. Came here to celebrate a birthday and the service was far from perfect. Our party sat at the bar to wait for a table and we waited over an hour and half to be seated. After asking a second time if our table was ready, they informed us it would be a few minutes but yet no one ever came to seat us. The bar area at this time was packed with patrons and they were definitely overworking the one bartender they had. Might I say, the bartender was amazing and she was just about the only one who provided great service while we waited patiently for a table! It wasn't until we requested to eat at the bar (since we weren't provided a table) did the bartender speak up and finally they came to seat us. The dining area was near empty the entire time so we couldn't figure out what their issue was. The food was just as underwhelming as the service, and quite pricey for the lack of flavors. The reason for the two stars is that the cheese bread they serve was actually delicious, and would probably be the only reason I would consider going back. The ambiance of the restaurant is dark and brooding, but kitschy if that's your thing. There is plenty of parking behind the establishment so parking should be the least of your issues. From my experience, I would advise against coming here with a large party because they don't seem to care to serve them. read more

Went to steak Stein a couple years back the food was very, very good. Went last weekend for my dad's and son birthdays the food was terrible. My dad got the Seabass, it was very mushy and very fishy. I think it was starting to turn bad. I thought I would try something different and get the fried chicken. It was terrible and tasteless. They grilled it first and then fried it. It was horrible and I got broccoli and it was just overcooked and mushy. My younger son steak was overcooked, and my other son's steak was chewy. The food is terrible for how much you pay. My family and I dined the Steak n Stein in Pico Rivera for the very first time. We've been to Northwoods in LA Mirada and Covina, but the Steak n Stein was beyond our expectations. We sat at the bar, where our bartender was Tito. He was one of the best Bartenders we have ever had experienced. Tito was very personable and friendly. He gave us the history of this Steak n Stein. It was very informative and we appreciated the history behind this location. The food was outstanding. We always enjoy the Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, Red Cabbage, Green House Salad, and the World Famous Cheese Bread. This time we ordered a baked potato, which was massive with all the fixins on the side. Normally for dinner, we also order the King Crab Legs and the New York Steak. We will be back again to this location when we are in the area. Tito is a very valuable asset to Steak n Stein. Red cabbage on point, Bread was a little soggy due over buttering not cheesy, the onion rings were a little greasy but still mostly crunchy. The BAKED POTATO the size of a football and made up like a dream. Our server was great also. My ONLY real complaint is the salad :( all it consists of was cold lettuce. I think a few tomatoes, cucumber slices, carrot shavings or something to make it special was needed. to play off the dressing. The dressings provided were very good. I would like to suggest a more proper table setting of 2 forks (salad & dinner), 1 steak knife, 3 small teaspoons for tasting of salad dressing. Cost a little over$230. read more

My daughter and I really wanted to love this place. The atmosphere is awesome, from the crowd, to the live music to the decor everything was looking great. Then the food arrived and everything went south. We ordered their special the prime rib and it was super cold, the waitress was fine taking it back, but her attitude changed completely after that. Well after it was reheated the prime rib was no longer medium it was over cooked. We also ordered the baby back ribs and that too was a disappointment, they were tasteless and dry. This past time, we were celebrating my husband's birthday. The food quality was poor to say the least. We have had better in past experiences. Although I did make a mistake by ordering the wrong wine (it was caught before it was opened), our waitress seemed out of sorts. She forgot multiple items including bread baskets or additional salads. She forgot to come back to check on us after we were served our food. In fact, my daughter discovered a long hair in her steak and we had to wait to try and catch her attention (the manager assisted us afterwards). We really wanted to love our experience, but unfortunately, we couldn't. We won't be back to this place. read more

To start off my food journey, I had a delicious salad and the must-try calimari. The salad was so refreshing when paired with the red cabbage and vinaigrette while the calimari was super flavorful and crunchy. My main dish was the half broiled chicken with a yummy baked potato and onion rings. Strong opinion, but I think my baked potato was the star of the show. The last few visits the baked potato seemed smaller than usual but the one I received tonight was the giant size I recall being served in the past.
