I'm late to the Cleavers game. Eagles opening game of 2020 amidst a pandemic seemed like the perfect time to start. Everywhere in Philly has cheesesteaks. I needed a cheesesteak from a place that specializes in cheesesteaks. Ordering through Grubhub was extremely easy. I was also really impressed by all of the steak options and combinations. Their chicken sandwich selection was impressive as well. I went with a MYO: American Cheese, rib eye, fried onions and banana peppers. I added my own hot sauces at home. The sandwich was solid in proportion and was eaten in two installments. I liked that It came pre-cut in half. The roll was fresh but sturdy and smooth. I liked the chopped pieces of steak. The meat to topping ratio was also legit. Not the least bit greasy either. Better late than never. Cleavers is my new cheesesteak delivery go-to. This was easily a 4.5 delivery experience. It's hard to rate without actually visiting the restaurant. In light of these crazy times, I'm supporting this restaurant and rounding up. read more

Service was amazing. I forgot the name of the server but it was a one man show. He provided recommendations and was quick with our drinks, any condiments, napkins, and to go boxes we asked for. Always checked in on us. Food was good, wish the cheese was at the top verses the bottom. My family enjoyed their meals as well. To go plates included the cheesesteak egg rolls, which was Bomb!! We were taking a pit stop before heading back to Maryland. Most places were closed on Sunday or opened later. This location is in the middle of the city we found parking at a garage nearby and walked a block. Small sitting area in the back and they opened at 11am. Saw a Tiktok that mentioned this restaurant. The meat is seasoned to perfection, which is evident in their cheesesteak egg rolls, another yummy treat. But I am giving this only 4 stars because of the mediocre fried mozz moons. I bet those are probably still on the menu for the tourists lol. And the pizza fries were nice, but not necessary. Ok, Philly cheesesteaks reviews can be like debating MJ or LeBron is the GOAT. I know MJ, see and half of you are pisses. Anyways, yes, this is a good place for a quality, large portions and well price ratio philly cheese steak. I got the cheese steak with provolone and I recommend adding mayo or something more for a bit more moisture. Wife got the cheese steak with American and cheez whiz. We got waffle fries and the cheese steak egg rolls. Everything was good, quality of meat is on point, Bread is fresh and tasty. Sauce with the egg rolls has a nice kick. And I feel like I wasn't robbed. Winner all the way around!! My favorite cheesesteak place in Philadelphia. The cheese wiz tastes so good, and my favorite thing about this place is the seeded bread that you get. Never stale or soggy, it always have the right amount of toast to it. The meat is never super dry, and the onions and green bell peppers always tastes fresh. The place I used to love burned down, so I had to find a new place to get my cheesesteak fix. Cleavers turned out to be a great choice. Okay - they use a sesame seed roll but it was still great and the half-pound of meat on the 10 inch roll was so filling and perfectly cooked and assembled, that that if you're in the neighborhood, you should definitely guve it a try. Not only was the cheesesteak delicious, service was excellent and the order was filled very quickly. I ordered my cheesesteak, waffle fries and boozy shake. I read a few reviews about this place, prior to me coming, and I anticipated being blown away by the cheesesteak. However, while the cheesesteak was alright, it was the boozy shake that was my favorite item from here. I didn't think the cheesesteak had enough and could have been seasoned a little better. [DELIVERY review] I blame American Airlines for a 4 hour flight delay from LA, and 1.5 hour delay waiting for my luggage at Phil Airport for not going to Cleavers in-person. I've only been to Philly once before for a day, like this trip, only for a day for a business meeting then onto Jersey for another. I remember eating a cheesesteak on that trip at the airport. If I recall, I liked it -- but I've had better even in LA (of course, Philly transplants start up shops all over). While I can't compare my cheesesteak to any of the Max's, Tony Luke's, Daleassandro's, Gino's, Jim's, and Sonny's -- the 4.5 stars of Yelpers drew me in. Arriving at my hotel, my order of THE BLOCK (ribeye steak, portobellos, fried onions, green peppers, sharp provolone) and Parm-Garlic Wedge fries was welcomed. The brown bag was very oily from the fries, but they looked good and the sandwich was HUGE and looked great. The prospects were definitely looking up. THE BLOCK -- good quality meat, but I didn't like much else about it. It was all meat and very dry; not nearly enough mush, onions, or green peppers, and frankly, needed grease (since the classic is without mayo or any other type of spread). The portobello's did not have the classic mushroom taste, and the bread was not soft -- maybe because of the late order? Also, lukewarm -- the driver did not have a special insulated bag. [$12.71, 3.0 stars] GARLIC PARMESAN FRIES -- waffle-cut fries, garlic, shredded parmesan. Also, lukewarm from the delivery, but actually perfectly seasoned with chunks of tasty parm. These would be great at the shop. [$5.51, 4.0 stars] In conclusion, not good for delivery. I would like to go to the actual restaurant, and I'd either order the sandwich with extra STUFF, or try something else. All in all, it doesn't get a great grade from me. read more

In a world of full of Pat's and Gino's, be a Cleavers! We couldn't come to Philly without ordering a Philly cheesesteak, and we didn't want just ANY cheesesteak either. Cleavers was rated as one of the highest amongst all the other PCS candidates and it was also only half a mile away from us. We ordered pickup from Seamless. Many of my friends went with the more traditional version of the steaks but I went with the Pizzaz: chopped steak with pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, chicken cutlets all on a hero. After a swim in the pool, my hunger was very much kickstarted. It was soooo delectable and savory! As hungry as I was, my stomach could only hold one part of the hoagie at a time. I paid for my food, I can't wait to...you know...pick it up? They then told me I either had to wait outside or upstairs. Definitely not the best I've had and definitely the worst one I have had on the east coast. It was overall really dry. It was a good sized portion. Just really nothing special to it for the price. I ordered a side of onion rings with ranch and they were also meh. They were crisp and crunchy but no real seasoning and tasted like nothing. Price: 0/5 I could not believe that without tax or tip the cost of a philly with a side of onion rings and ranch was $28. The onion rings alone were $9.75. I got hurried through the kiosk process and was stressed and overwhelmed so just paid to go quickly. When I saw my receipt I thought, wow, I must have ordered a family sized onion rings or something. When they got to the table...I could not believe, it was a regular/small side of onion rings. Like, 6-7 onion rings with a little cup of ranch for $9.75. Ha! I get inflation, but this type of pricing puts your business under. Never again Cleavers. Overall, I left full and couldn't finish the philly so it was a lot of food. I was visiting Philly from NYC and Cleavers was on my list of places to try. My girlfriend and I decided to stop by the location instead of ordering in. We ordered the CBR Grilled & Caesar Grilled and we had absolutely no regrets. The sandwiches were hugeeee and absolutely delicious. The bread was soft, the chicken was juicy with a light charred taste from the grill and they added just the right amount of sauce. Due to Covid, we had to wait for our food outside. Outside the restaurant were a few table and chairs but since it was raining we decided to checkout a store nearby. We waited about 10-15 mins for our sandwiches. We're big fans of grilled chicken sandwiches and these are on the top of our list. The Caesar Grilled reminds me of a Chicken Caesar slice which I love. My hotel was a 4 minute walk to Cleavers, and I knew I wanted to try a Philly cheesesteak with wiz and onions while I was there. So I ordered online and walked over to pick up. A very solid option for any group who have some people wanting a Philly cheesesteak, and others wanting literally anything else. Food was good and came out quickly. My two qualms: 1. I wish there was another option for bread aside from the seeded or wrap. I'm allergic to sesame seeds so I opted for the wrap which was good, but didn't hold up super well with a cheesesteak. 2. The portions are MASSIVE for the seeded bread sandwiches and sides (I got onion rings), which makes sense given it's a bit pricey. Very good cheesesteaks. There were 4 of us and all enjoyed it very much. Tip - don't sit upstairs in the summer. It was uncomfortably hot. We didn't dare make a complaint... it's Philly after all! Haha. One of the workers came upstairs and was not happy that we moved 2 chairs out of the way to make more sitting room. So complain about the temp? No way. The food here is really good - my rating comes from the questionable service at the location. We got in an hour and a half before closing time, and they had already shut down the indoor seating area for the night. There is some outdoor seating available, but it's not really in a great area and tons of people walk back and forth on that sidewalk. The cheesesteaks and fries are great, and I'd probably come back for takeout. Cleavers was recommended to me by my nephew who lives there and that was his cheesesteak place of choice. Visiting for the weekend we of course had to have a cheesesteak--we tried calling a few times but were left on hold each time so decided to go order in-person. It's a nice space, on the smaller side with a few tables out front and I believe an additional seating area upstairs. The space looked well organized and very clean. One of the reasons that it was my nephew's preference was because they had unseeded buns and he has a sesame allergy. They've recently removed that option and only offer seeded buns; he settled for a cheesesteak wrap but of course it's not the same. The woman taking our order was nice and patient while we rattled off the various orders and it was done fairly quickly. The cheeseteaks themselves were tasty--I had the classic whiz and onions. They weren't soggy even after walking back and overall everyone enjoyed their sandwiches. It seems they only have one size, which was fine for the adults but wish they had smaller, kid-sized options, too. My dad and I came here for lunch today as soon as they opened. I thought it was gonna be a Philly cheesesteak spot where you basically take it go, but the had a lot of indoor seating which was really nice because it was in the high 90s today. This was both of our first authentic Philly Cheesesteak experience, and it did not disappoint! We ordered The Block, which had your classic ribeye meat with mushrooms, onions, and provolone cheese all on a sesame bun! My dad and I split it, and it was amazing! It was dripping with juices from the meat, and the flavor was on point! The only comment I would have is that the mushrooms take away the flavor of the meat itself, so next time I would try it without the mushrooms. I also but ketchup on a couple of my bites since I had heard people do that sometimes, and the sweetness of the ketchup compliments the savory of the steak. Cleavers had popped up on my searches with a solid 4.5-star avg, but I actually had intentions of going to a different spot. However we―and by we I mean I―got turned around while traversing thru DT and we accidently ended up here instead. No complaints as this was probably #2 on my list anyhow. So, let's get to the chow: I ordered up a standard one w/ Whiz and some cheese fries to see me thru the day. Cheesesteaks ($10/ea): Bread- You get the choice of either seeded or sans seed bread and they were both about the same in flavor, but just depends on your preference. I don't believe Cleavers uses the famous Amoroso roll, but a gigantic fresh-baked roll. It was a bit breadier than I would've liked but it held up well to the immense toppings. Steak- Cleavers uses 100% USDA Rib-Eye steaks to make their meat and you could def tell by the tenderness of the beef. My complaint was the beef was a bit under-seasoned, and the lack of Whiz®―but we'll get to that later. Toppings- I only ordered my regular cheesesteak wit' onions, and they did give a generous amount, but again they too were under-seasoned. Also they want to charge ±50¢ for some peppers, which is absurd as most places give them away in a giant bucket. Cheese- Of course to make it the authentic Philly experience I had to get my cheesesteak with Whiz®! I'm a huge fan of the Whiz®, but I'm not sure why there was such a tiny amount on the sammy itself?? They literally just put a thin schmear of the inside of the bread and not a drop on top of the steak itself. Fortunately they put a shit-ton on my cheese fries, so I was able to transfer that onto my sammy. A few of the pics here show that they had Whiz® on top of the steak, so I think somebody f'd up. #fail Waffle-cut Whiz® Fries ($4.95) The Waffle-cut fries were terrific but they really overdid it with the Whiz®, which as you've read above, I was fortunate enough to need on my cheesesteak. Value Cleavers has a fantastic value for using some top-notch ingredients―as a gigantic cheesesteak that could easily be shared by two―goes for only $10! Service & Ambiance Cleavers' décor is a bit hipstery, but the service was very friendly and the clientele seemed to be mostly business types that work in the surrounding DT buildings. Overall, I liked Cleavers and have them sitting at 3.5-stars. Unfortunately, they had a few missteps along the way that prevents me from giving them a solid 4-star review. Once you walk in there's a takeout section and to the left is a small dine in section on the side. A small bar table area and about 5 small tables. There is more seating for takeout customers upstairs. Went in with a group of 8 people and the waitress helped combined the table to accommodate us. We ordered 8 rolls, wings and loaded fries. The rolls were packed with meat and toppings. A roll was about 1 ft long and cut in half. Definitely was very worth it for the size and the amount of food stuffed in. The waitresses was very helpful and patient with us ordering as a group. She assured us our drinks would come shortly cus it was being made at the takeout area. Ordered a couple of drinks, pina colada milkshake with alcohol. The vanilla ice cream overpowered the pina colada, which caused it to taste like a spiked vanilla milkshake.
