We had a great time at Clementina. We all love Italian food, some of us must be gluten free, and we wanted to dine at someplace special to celebrate a few of our birthdays. Red at Clementina arranged it so that we had that experience and our server Julia made it happen just right. They even accommodated our request for a gluten- and egg-free pasta dish. Not everyplace offers vitello tonnato so we started with that-something different than usual and a with a subtle yet deep flavor we really enjoyed. The lamb gnocchi and pesto pasta were delicious. We ordered several pizzas and while we enjoyed them all, my favorite was the one with pork and broccoli rabe. The aglianico wine was perfect for what we ordered. Highly recommended. read more

As a party of 7, we were looking to have an enjoyable early Mother's Day lunch. We chose Clementina's after seeing a review for a completely gluten-free restaurant. My adult son was diagnosed with Celiac disease just over 10 years ago and the idea of eating out and my son being able to eat anything and everything he wanted plus sample everyone else's was an exciting opportunity! It did not disappoint!! We started with the focaccia bread. We all agreed, it was a 10/10. Then we shared the eggplant fritters and baked mussels. Fritters were good, but a bit bland flavor. Mussels were gobbled up. For the entrees, our group had 3 different pizzas, the pesto pasta, gnocchi, fish of the day and the beet salad. Everyone LOVED their food. We all shared, took bites of each other's meals and the best part was our son with Celiac not worrying about cross-contamination! Dessert was the tiramisu and flourless chocolate cake...yum, yum, yum! My son was in heaven and ordered more food to go! Our family will be back. Went here with a friend who has celiac, so we were both thrilled that everything on the menu is GF. We had a bread basket, branzino, and gnocchi. Everything was very good. Our waiter was a bit surly when I asked him if they could recommend a good pinot noir. Apparently I am not well versed enough to know in Italian what they had on the wine list. The restaurant is packed to the gills and quite loud. We were seated right next to the kitchen which was actually quieter than in the front. Tables are very close together so I wouldn't recommend discussing anything private. Overall a fun experience with good food. read more

Had the pleasure of dining at Clementina in SF for dinner this evening. Unfortunately I didn't get pictures of my husband's meal but he got the gnocchi ragu and ate every bite. He's not gluten free but it was one of his favorite meals in a while. Food delicious, service amazing and Gianluca couldn't have been a more gracious host. Also, the table agreed best gf focaccia we've ever tried. The place was packed so make a reservation. We were late to make a reservation but Gianluca kindly squeezed us in. Ambiance was great. A couple friends and I came in to SF from San Diego and we landed on Clementina randomly and were pleasantly surprised. We started off at the bar and the drinks were amazing, I dont drink so I got a mocktail.... and when I tell you guys the Lune de Miele a Spicy Peach mocktail was EVERYTHING. The young lady behind the bar Kiara was spectacular. Magaly and Julia were extremely attentive and helpful once we were at our table. The staff here is amazing, real standouts! WOW!!! The best night at Clementina. The food was TO DIE FOR. Even if you are not gluten free it is so worth it. I highly recommend the crispy pork cutlet, the Gorgonzola mussels, and the bone marrow risotto. The service was also so incredible... we were served by Louisa and she was so funny and personable. Just like countless other reviews have said, this place has a beautiful ambiance. However, they really need to reevaluate their menu... like yesterday. The flavors are just so off. You're honestly better off grabbing a box of gluten free pasta off the shelf and making it at home. The pizza dough tasted undercooked, almost as if someone had just discovered gluten free pizza crust and it was their first time experimenting with the dough. Don't reinvent the wheel, Clementina! The celiac community has been around for a longgg time now, and in the big year 2026, buying or making decent gluten free pasta and pizza really isn't that difficult. The lack of cheese was underwhelming and made it feel like corners were being cut. It was essentially uncooked, floury-tasting bread topped with bland tomato sauce. Yuck!! Such a big disappointment. The food is expensive for something that tastes like almost nothing kind of like when you have a cold and your sense of taste disappears. And this is coming from someone who isn't particularly picky or hypercritical about food. I'll eat just about anything. It really was that bad. read more

I visited Clementina last night, and was over the moon about the whole experience. I recommend making a reservation as it was super busy. We ordered the focaccia and octopus as appetizers, shared the clementina pizza and lamb ragu gnocchi for entree, and then finished off with the tiramisu for dessert. Everything was delicious, my boyfriend who is not gluten free even said he couldn't tell it was gluten free. I can't wait to go back! read more

So excited about the new 100% gluten free restaurant in SF! This is a celiacs dream! Would love more options for pasta eventually but I think they are working with a small menu on purpose. Interior space is welcoming and our server was very pleasant and accommodating. Noise level makes table conversation difficult. We were greeted by host that immediately stated a 90 min. time restriction which is off-putting. This restriction was also communicated via email. I have had many incredible meals at your sister location with great service. It's one of my favorite restaurants in SF. Our party & adjoining party at our table were disappointed in the food. Comparing 2 pizzas and 3 antipasto to those we've had At Montesacro, Clementina fell short. I've now been twice and am already excited to revisit and try new things. I do have some favorites so I'll share. As someone who does eat gluten I was very curious about the bread so we started with the FOCACCIA E BURRO (there's a variety of small pieces to try) I absolutely loved the squid ink but each one was truly delicious. The RISOTTO CROCCANTE E MIDOLLO I wish I could eat once a week. Definitely my favorite so far. The COSTOLETTA ALLA MILANESE is also up there-- incredible. I was curious how a GF pizza would compare and was very pleasantly surprised by the simple MARGHERITA, really tasty. Finish with GELATO DELLA CASA (that salted Carmel yummm) or the BUONANOTTE AMORE, CIAO. So so good. An entirely GF Italian restaurant? Unheard of and truly a gem. Having a gluten intolerance makes it hard to eat out, so I was so excited to hear that a gluten free Italian restaurant opened in the city. We went for lunch and the Alice pizza was delicious. It was light and the flavors went really well together. The very helpful waitress recommended it. The chilled red wine she recommended complimented the pizza well. I wish we didn't order The panini though, it was not what I expected. I thought it would be grilled or warm but it was cold. The focaccia bread was light and fluffy but the beef was gray and the sauce tasted like fish. It had too many flavors that didn't combine well. The arugula dressed and served with it was bland and not peppery like arugula normally is. I would definitely come back for the pizza, but it was expensive for a small pizza so not as often as I would like to. The restaurant itself was inviting and spacious. I liked the decor, but it was loud once the lunch crowd showed. I appreciated that they found a window seat for us even though we didn't have a reservation. read more

I was really, really excited to try Clementina as a fully gluten-free Italian restaurant, but I unfortunately left pretty disappointed. It's always nice to have a dedicated gluten-free spot, but the menu actually felt honestly worse than most Italian restaurants that already offer safe GF options. Since it's advertised as fully gluten free, I was hoping for dishes that are harder to find gluten free elsewhere like garlic bread, lasagna, eggplant parmesan, carbonara, etc. Instead, there ended up being hardly any dishes that looked exciting to try when looking at the menu at the restaurant. The pasta was just okay, and the pizza was soggy in the middle. I honestly feel like I could have made a significantly better fully gluten-free Italian meal at home for a fraction of the price. Yikes! I've ate at some great 100% gf restaurant and this is no where near close to even being decent. If this is truly an Italian gluten free restaurant they should have food that people w celiac can't normally eat (arancini, garlic bread, lasagna, meatballs etc) instead we got sliced white bread as "focaccia" and cauliflower w breadcrumbs that was literally cold, canned antipasti with little breadcrumbs on top. The food i make at home is significantly better and more flavorful than anything here. In fact, their focaccia tastes like the King Arthur you can make at home, except they don't put olive oil, salt or any seasonings and don't toast it, so it tastes like mushy bland sandwich bread. It's quite pathetic to be a gluten free restaurant when everything on the menu can be requested gf at a nice / cautious Italian restaurant anyway and is still this bad (if not worse)! read more

I was excited to try this new gluten free trattoria. When we arrived for our reservation, our table for two was 9 inches from the next table, (as my 10 inch purse wouldn't fit through!) where two 20 somethings were dissecting their lives so loudly that we could barely converse. The rather surly waiter warned that the lasagne on the menu was a baked pasta but without that traditional layers. It arrived as a small pile of tubular pasta, with limited sauce, priced at $25. The pizza had limited sauce as well. If you want delicious gluten free pasta, check out Fiorella on Polk Street. While their menu has both GF and regular items, service is excellent, their GF pasta is made in house and great, and there is no surcharge for the GF pasta. read more

How I want to rave about this place after being GF for 34 years and yet it was a mixed night. The space is great and the decor is thoughtful. The seating is a bit cramped but also makes for a fun time if you are up for feeling campfire ish. We had fun folks near us and hence it made it nice to be close. The layout is urban rustic and the location is convenient re coming from most places in SF. The parking was good and being near Green Apple books is always a plus. The server was an odd mix between knowledgebale and helpful while also rash and almost rude. He needed a bit of massaging to settle in and once he did he was good. We all remarked that the male owner walking around and the male servers and the male host made for a lot of male energy and we did all agree the place could use one woman to soften is up. Now for the food...was it awesome to not ask for this or that to be GF ? Yes, we all relished the ease of ordering and that in itself may for some be worth the visit. Sadly though the food is just ok. The pastas were very simple in terms of food profiles. The starters tried to be interesting but not many of the dishes have deep taste. The cauliflower for example was barley threaded by use of capers otherwise it was disperate at best. The pizza crust is solid. I have had many that are GF and this was the best. Id say this is where they do their best work. It is tasty and bouyant and well simply put, solid. The brownie was from simple mills box off the market shelf brownie which was a bummer and they didnt try and gussy it up so for all of us that have had kids and have made these brownines a million times right out of the box this was a bummer. We all agreed if they had put some mint on it or some jam off to the side or a flower on the plate...anything really...could have made it seem a little less lame. Again, a womans touch would have helped. If you have just gone GF go, if you arent much of a foodie, go. If you want to support folks making an effort, go and if you want GF pizza, GO but keep expectations in check. read more
