So this was my first time back to cluck-u Motown since they closed the old location. I called to place my order was hung up the first time. I called back and was told 10 minutes, which the guy hung up again before taking a name or telling me the price. I get there about 15 minute later and the place was empty. The guy at the register says it will be about 10 minutes, so obviously they didn't place the order. 20 minutes later before I get my food. Barely any sauce on the wings, made them super dry. Definitely not the Clucku it used to be. I may try them again one day, hopefully they'll work out the kinks, but it will be a while. read more

All good thing must come to and end. Well you would hope they don't and especially with restaurants. But the quality of food and help at this location took a dive bomb since the last time I was here two weeks ago. I walk in today only to find a man taking a phone order. I think it might be the owner but not sure. Not once did he acknowledge me or say he'll be right with me. Than when he took my order, never asked if I wanted dipping sauce like blue cheese or ranch. Than when they call my order, I get right up. The mini chicken bites were cold. And I wonder if they were undercooked. The cheese on the cheesy fries were hot. I developed severe stomach pains today and I attribute it to the food I ate here. I ate nothing else today. Now to think of it, two weeks ago the same stomach pains developed and lasted several days. I now have to question if they are cooking the chicken enough. I will be staying away from this location next time in Morristown which will be in two weeks. I will find another place to get lunch. Ouch, this one hurt. This was a first for me in two ways: first Cluck-U experience (yay) and first bad experience with fried chicken (booo). If you're into the Motown bar scene, then you should already know Cluck-U becomes a hot spot for late night weekend drunk munchies. And to be clear - we came for the pregame munchies, so no alcohol impaired this 2 star rating lol. So what went wrong? Let's start with the biggest letdown. We ordered the 2 pc fried chicken - thigh & leg, but they gave us the breast & leg. First world problems, I know I know. No biggy though, we ate what we got. Actually, only half of it. And that's because part of the chicken breast was pink and the area near the bone was bloody! Welp, that's one way to lose customers. While the breading on the fried chicken was very bland, the chicken itself was surprisingly juicy (maybe from the blood? eeek). The breading on the wings was just as disappointing. The wings were soggy and below room temp, but thankfully the sauce gave it some flavor (although the sauces tasted cold too). The cluckster's hot was okay, but I was loving the caribbean jerk and lemon pepper! To top it off, the prices are hefty for the quality. $25 for a 2 pc fried chicken + 15 wings + a bottle water. Sheeesh. I hate to turn a review into a rant so let's leave on a positive note. While the service is not exactly friendly or welcoming, these folks are efficient. Especially when dealing with a drunk crowd, so I'll give them credit for that. They have several levels of hotness...wing wise. I suggest not going stupid and doing their thermo nuclear and signing an affidavit saying you were aware that you're a jacka$$ for burning your mouth and insides. Yes it's that hot. So I've heard a lot about Cluck-U Chicken, all of my friends swear by it. I've been here before, but only once after a long night of drinking. Don't come here late at night though when the bars get out because there were a lot of belligerent, drunk college kids here. I give the employees credit though for being able to handle the chaos. Anyway, I decided to give it another shot, even though I'm more of a popeye's kinda guy, but this place is down the street from me and I really wanted some fried chicken. The interior looks like it needs a good cleaning, that's for sure. The menu is pretty straightforward, you're here for the wings. The part that is intimidating is the sheer number of sauces they have available. They probably do allow sampling, but I didn't get the vibe that I could try out the sauces, so I just went with the honey bbq. I also checked out the side items and nothing really stuck out, so I ordered fries with cheese on it. After ordering, the first thing I noticed was how expensive it was to get 4 pieces of chicken, sauce on it, and some fries. It was like $14, which is pretty damn expensive. The chicken was just okay for me, I mean it was satisfying but the skin wasn't nearly as crunchy as popeyes, which is half as expensive. The sauce wasn't anything to write home about either. And the fries with the basic nacho cheese on it were worse than what you could make yourself with a bag of shoprite fries. Basically, I have no idea what the hype is about. The Friend Chicken here is awesome. Understandably, as the night creeps into the wee hours this unhealthy snack gets more and more attractive. Beware of the Hot Sauces. If you think you can handle them, by all means, go for it. But if you have never tried "Atomic" or "Nuclear BBQ" please ask for it on the side. Honestly, this was the worst meal I have ever eaten. First, the chicken and onion rings were just the worst of frozen cafeteria food. The coating was heavy on both and not at all fresh or crispy. This was highlighted by a rubbery bun, bland and old lettuce a tomatoes and topped off by a hair! Gross! The ribs were tough and the boneless wings a gluey mess. A Chicken Alma Mater To Be Proud Of Having moved from the west coast where our favorite chicken place was in abundance (Wing Stop) we were saddened to discover it did not exist in the Morris County Area. That was until we discovered Cluck-U Chicken with our friend C L. My brother had tried a Cluck-U Chicken place probably 20+ years ago and was so impressed that he told me to check it out when he heard that it was near the Morristown Station. I figured anywhere that can leave a lasting impression on my brother was worth checking out as we have similar opinions on food. My brother was right! This place was awesome in both flavor and decor. The sauces offered here range from sweet and savory to competitive levels of hot. The decor is lighthearted and all about chickens attending Cluck-U or poultry versions of pop culture posters and/or magazine covers. The food here has been consistently hot and fresh as it is cooked to order. My Pre-K son knows that the food is so good here that it isn't too hard for him to wait for the food to be ready. And when it is ready he can't wait to get his chicken so he can start enjoying his "special lunch". The staff here has been consistently friendly. They have chatted me up on more than one occasion and I have walked away with a smile every time. They are also very accommodating when asked to provide an extra plate and utensils so that my son can share a large order of food. This location is consistently clean. No errant messes have been found and pointed out by my son. Another big plus for this location is that they continue to deliver even when weather is not ideal. I've been told by the staff that deliveries go way up on non-ideal weather days. So no worries about getting your favorite shoes rained or snowed on. The Cluck-U delivery team will be there for your chicken fix in any kind of weather. Thank you Cluck-U Chicken for helping to fill the go-to chicken void that we had when we first arrived in Morristown, NJ. Staff isn't friendly and they rush your order out because deliveries & Uber eats apparently take priority over dine-in clientele. As a result your food is always lukewarm & undercooked. When you ask for extra crispy the wings should be piping hot (temperature-wise) with steam coming off of them. Had to send many orders back as a result. The Cluck-U in Hoboken does the opposite. They make you wait for your order but it's always fresh & hot & satisfying, and worth the wait. This isn't fast food, it isn't McDonald's..it's comfort food, and the staff shouldn't make me feel uncomfortable & make fun of me in Spanish when I have to send my food back. Not the case in Hoboken. How can you not like Morristown's Cluck-U. Their prices are so low, they always give me a ton of food, their wings and wings sauces are so tasty, they're open hella late, and Staff get's you in and out. I personally always order the boneless wings with the sweet chili sauce. It's so yummy to me. Despite only ordering 5 wings at a time, they always seem to just fill my styrofoam container with as many wings that can fit which tends to leave me with more than I ordered. Mind you, their boneless wings aren't the small circle wings most restaurants offer, they're big and long. I also tend to order their spudz fries which are just fries with either queso or buffalo (or whichever sauce you like) on it. I like that they aren't stingy with their sauces. They give you a ton of sauce on your food so you don't have to worry about anything without flavor. The only other foods that I've ordered are their onion rings and mac'n'cheese, which honestly weren't that great. But their main focus is wings and they do well at that. I've never ordered delivery so I can't review that. They always have gotten my order correct, no issues with bad customer services, and their prices are super low IMO. As you should be too if you're ordering Cluck-U delivery at midnight, you dingus. Stop complaining. Chicken of this quality cannot be rushed. Seriously? Bad reviews? Fuck all of you. Let me tell you something. You meet some pretty interesting people outside this establishment at 1am. Cluck U has been a steady staple of my diet growing up, so I guess I am qualified to rate this place. CLEANLINESS: It wasn't always that clean to begin with, but eating in unsanitary conditions seems to have become the norm there. Last time I went there was about a plate of corn and other stuff on the floor. The cooks handle food without gloves. FOOD: I think I tried everything on the menu and my favorite has been and continues to be, the boneless tenders with thermo-nuclear sauce with mashed potatoes, celery and blue cheese. After all, they are known for their chicken. I think if you're a fan of chicken you should experiment with all the different sauces they have. I mean you gotta really ease into it or you will not be able to handle the hottest ones, but its worth it. Surprisingly, I have never gotten sick after eating there. Great place to get some chicken on the run! I had the apple roasted chicken and it was delicious! It was half of a roast chicken that's soaked in apple juice and it was so tender and juicy! The only negative comment I would give is that it came with a couple of tiny corn muffins, and although they we're delicious, the meal should've come with a substantial side, like potatoes or vegetable. Some of these "wingers" look like they were sourced from a chicken farm next to a nuclear power plant! The bones are in really wacky places and you are praying that this is/was indeed chicken and wasn't meowing two hours ago. The cluckerbees (free rolls) used to be good, now they are greasy, fried, stale messes! Last time I had Cluck-U wingers (they deliver) I was SO disappointed. I also had their version of fried chicken and was astounded as to how chicken could be both greasy and yet undercooked! Still, maybe you need to decide for yourself. An institution. If you grew up in the area, dining at Cluck U was probably a rite of passage. Cluck U makes no apologies for what it is. It tackles its own style with ease and grace. Chicken. A fryer. Some sauces. Probably a shaking/tossing motion. And there you have it. I recommend sticking to the middle of the hotness-spectrum, as the crazy-hot sauces are just that: crazy. The "wet bites" are the way to go. They're just chicken fingers, but they are outstanding. Otherwise, try a chicken sandwich with your sauce of choice (options!). And wash it all down with something sweet: I recommend the fruit punch, since carbonation sometimes increases the hotness of the sauce. Oh. And don't forget a gumball from the machine. There is a lot of hating on Cluck U, but I'm not joining in. I have to admit none of the service issues reported by others happened to me so I was OK with the overall experience. This was my fist time here, not that it matters because my wing orders are pretty formulaic. Ten wings sauce on the side and some fries. The only service knock I would give was they put together in a to-go package and I was staying, but I don't think he asked and I didn't say. I'll split blame for that 70/30 in my favor. The wings were crispy and hot, all good. On their own they are pretty dull in contrast to Dirty Wings (San Diego). This is also OK, just means they have to be sauced. I had the sweet chili sauce on the side. This is one of favorites and I try it wherever I go. Their version was as good as LI Wings (NY) and when ordered on the side you get two K-cups. Plenty for a ten pack. Once dipped the wings are good, hot, and tasty. Overall my fellow yelpers have rated this place 2 1/2 stars. Call it as you like, a hard 2.5 or a soft 3, the place is OK and worth a try if you want wings without the whole "dine in" experience. read more
