Only stopped by for the boba drinks as we were in between meals. First time here but I always seem to pass by several times a month. It was about 4pm on Christmas day. The chicken smelled fantastic and the space is really cool for checking out a game on TV. But it was definitely not busy when we dropped by. Just wanted to get some boba as a snack, so we ordered a few drinks. Was tempted for the melona smoothie (I love melona everything but think it's too sweet for myself). While there are many CM chicken locations around Chicagoland, this restaurant in Vernon Hills is probably my favorite for many reasons. The parking is super easy, the dining room is enormous and augmented by a large dining area with fountain outside, prices are super reasonable for the amount and quality of food you're getting, the decor is cute and fun, the robot is a nice addition for a more premium experience, the restrooms are maintained nicely, the menu is huge, etc. Unlike other locations in smaller spaces or in the mall, this is really a spot that's casual, enormous, and comfortable with plenty of options to satisfy everyone's cravings. As usual, the food shines here especially with their super delicious bone-in cripsy chicken options (cheese, galbi, and garlic soy top it for me!). It's also worth it to try their nice and chewy tteok-bokki and though I haven't had it at this location, their Korean pancake is awesome as well. The drink options here are also very well priced and they offer a dazzling array of options from milk teas to fruit teas to yogurt teas and more. They are presented nicely and great for posting on social media. Overall, definitely worth it if you're craving Korean fried chicken, Korean food, or bubble tea. I've been wanting to try the Glenview location, then saw this spot which is definitely closer to me. Nice and fancy looking place. Love the patio, nice view and even a fountain. The servers and staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful. They checked in often. We got the spicy snow chicken wings and the green onion garlic soy wings. Lots of flavor here! I love onions and the snow onion topping and sauce was excellent. It's labeled as a level 1 for heat but I found that inconsistent. Some bites were super spicy and some were very sweet instead. A nice balance for my taste but if your not much for heat then beware, it can be overpowering. The garlic soy is a perfect sauce, really fantastic flavor... but its labeled as not spicy. The onion topping definitely had some spice and my companion couldn't really eat any of it as a result. Not a huge deal, we just pushed them off. The drums on the plate were a bit tough in my opinion, definitely not as tender as the actual wings which were perfect. I'll definitely be back, they have a large menu with more flavors I'd like to try, but I've had better Korean wings in the area. Oh my goodness, this place is so good. Every Choong Man Chicken is so good. It's honestly probably the best Korean fried chicken I've ever had. Even better than the chicken I had in Korea. The chicken is SO juicy. My go-to is snow onion chicken. The tikku chicken flavors are good too, but those are slightly more expensive. I have found that the snow onion is just as good. Even the normally dry chicken breast is so freaking juicy. The galbi chicken is a little too salty for my tastes. Also, the taste of galbi marinade on chicken doesn't seem right. I like the lighter sauce of the snow chicken. Ambiance and service are both really good. Servers are really nice, the place is well-decorated. I came to order a boba tea on a Sunday evening (around 5 pm) and can clearly tell this place is poorly managed: - no customer - the kiosk machine was not working, I try to informed the staff there and she told me to wait - while waiting, we saw one of the staff picked her nose and touched other people's to go order - after a couple of minutes of waiting, one staff took our order and we informed the staff that we only wanted 25% sugar, turns out she doesn't understand and have to call someone else to help, so a couple more minutes of waiting I ordered a taro boba tea, it was just 'ok'. There were several people having dinner on the outdoor patio, enjoying a nice summer evening. We ordered a few chicken dishes along with drinks. The Java chip smoothie had a great flavor. I came here with my family last Saturday and we had a great time. The restaurant is big and spacious, with a lot of big windows and natural sunlight. There's a lot of seating available so it looks like it's good for big groups. We got the snow onion fried chicken and the galbi tikku chicken. The snow onion sauce kind of tasted like a coleslaw sauce, a little tangy and a little sweet. The fried chicken itself was so crispy and juicy, even the chicken breast was juicy. This was my favorite thing we had here. The Galbi Tikku chicken (fried and then grilled) had a nice smokey flavor and it came with a sweet spicy sauce. It was also really good. The staff here were very friendly and our waitress even gave us the option of using plastic gloves if we didn't want to get our hands dirty. Had no idea they opened a second location in Vernon Hills, since they just opened in Glenview not too long before the pandemic. A convenient location in the same northwest plaza as the Starbucks at the intersection of Rt 21 and Rt 45. Plenty of parking places. Easy to find. Inside is very spacious and organized, modern and well lit. Staffs appear professional and courteous. Takeout containers are made of paper which is great for reducing plastic use. They ask if I wanted utensil (I didn't), so they didn't provide, which is great-- reducing plastic waste. Original fried chicken, whole order-- even though it's not spicy at all to me and hubby, the kids still thought it was a bit spicy, which could be jalapeño or white pepper in the seasoning. We loved the flavor, and saltiness was just right. The meat is a mix of drumstick, wings, and boney pieces. The white meat pieces were super dry, so I'd avoid that in the future; I think with sauce-less chicken, it's gotta be dark meat with skin. Red Q chicken, wings-- the sweet and spicy profile was so good, but the peak spicy level is like 8/10 (so pretty darn spicy). You don't feel it right away, but it catches up after a few minutes, but it does dissipate pretty quickly too, maybe under 10 min. Will see if it will give us GI issues, but so far so good. Again, this is super delicious. Soy garlic chicken balls-- definitely our favorite. Meat are bite size, tender and juicy because of the sauce and meat type. The sweet and savory blend is a really good balance. My husband thinks it's a tad bit spicy (maybe 1.5/10) but definitely very tolerable. What made this stand out is they had crushed peanuts in this! I thought those were garlic chunks but no, peanuts, it's really good both from texture and flavor aspect. Will order again! Overall, the price is on the expensive side. With these three order came out to be ~$60. But it's not unheard of because Korean fried chicken are generally priced around there. Quality is really good though. While I've enjoyed the taste of their food in the past, this location severely lacks on service. What's the point of having good food if they completely forget your order? On top of that, at least 5, yes 5 tables after us got their food before us. How's that even reasonable? We didn't even have a large order either. When bringing it up to the server they said the kitchen staff forgot our order and that they should've checked on our food. It wasn't even busy when we sat down. There were only 2 other tables already dining. The restaurant didn't even offer to take our order off the check when they're the ones who messed up. They just gave a simple apology. This place is great and I will come here again! Quality- I got 2 half chickens (tikkudak garlic soy and tikkudak goguchuang) with a side of gizzards (kalbee flavor). The food came out piping hot, cooked perfectly, great texture from the crunchy skin, and the sauce was not overpowering so that you can taste chicken and tikkudak grill. Quantity- more than enough food came out for a party for 3 ppl. The only thing that is missing is a side of rice. Price- all 3 things came out to be around 60 dollars which is good pricing given high quantity and quality. Atmosphere- I like the outdoor seating and overall the place is welcoming and clean. I am guilty of being an addict of this place. The fried chicken is too good. It's comforting fried chicken! The crunchy texture of the skin and juicy, well-cooked chicken meat is worth coming back for. I've visited many times so I will only write about my most recent visit on mother's day. Radish is served from the start. I will eat the whole serving. It's great with drinking soju or without. It's served with your water. Try it. I just love crunchy textures and this satisfies my texture craving. Appetizers I approve of... waffle fries with yogurt cheese seasoning. I'm not even sure why this is so good but it is. It's paired with a sauce, I think it's honey mustard... that's the only flavor I can equate it to. All good. This trip, I tried the sesame balls. Pretty good for me. My husband was a big fan (he ate the majority). I ordered eggrolls. These are small size eggrolls. More bite size. Chi-bop bowl spicy garlic is served with the sauce on the side. The sauce is thick and poured over the bowl. I recommend adding a little at a time. Spicy garlic does have a kick to it. This is a very large bowl of food filled with rice, popcorn chicken, two pieces of waffle fries, corn & coleslaw. Pour that sauce all over (a little bit at a time) and mix! I ate about 1/4 of the bowl while my husband ate the rest. So good! 3 piece drumstick meal honey garlic - I ended up having to take my drumsticks meal home. This is a thick sauce and I tasted more honey than garlic but it wasn't completely sweet either. Like I said earlier, the fried chicken here is good enough to visit at least 1-2 times a month. I recommend eating at the restaurant to get the chicken hot and fresh. Ambience - expect to see tv screens airing lots of k-pop. Bathrooms are clean and robots are delivering your food with the help of servers. This most recent trip was by far the best service we've had there. Staff was extremely attentive. They offered gloves to us and checked in quite often. Even if they didn't, this restaurant has call buttons for guest to request service. read more

A fun new place to have lunch! I ate lunch with coworkers here and we had a great experience. I ordered the signature chicken burger with lemon sauce. I enjoyed it, but the sauce really didn't taste lemony -- it reminded me more of a honey mustard flavor. One of my friends had a chicken dish in a garlic soy sauce, which she let me try. It was so good, and I'll be sure to order it next time! Other than the tasty food, the highlight for us was watching our food arrive at our table on a robotic cart. We are super excited that this place is just down the road from us - especially on a snowy day like today. They say it is all in the details, and that is where Choong Man (CM) gets it right. From the relaxed interior, to the call buttons, and floor to ceiling sliding doors that open to a patio (which we can't wait to use in the summertime) this place feels like Korea. Even the water bottle they use for the tables and the K-pop music - absolutely like being back in Korea. Love that attention to the small details! And the food is even better. Their original chicken is lightly seasoned, which surprisingly isn't always the case with Korean fried chicken at other places, perfectly crispy, and really flavorful. Definitely recommend! CM Chicken - either this location, or the one in Hawthorn Mall - is my favorite place for chicken wings... No contest. I've had a LOT of wings over the years, I should point out. I've had wings up and down the Atlantic coast, in the southwest, and up and down the Pacific coast. Korean chicken places almost always are my favorite, with a few exceptions (Frankie's Beachside, O-Town Burgers & Wings, Snaps American Bistro), because of their incredible crispiness and sauce options. I love the tried-and-true sauces like buffalo, BBQ, and garlic parm; but most of the Korean wing places step it up with spicy garlic & honey, gochujang, curry, citrus & green onion, and other umami combinations. bb.q and SoJu BBQ were my favorites for a while, but when the CM Chicken & Boba opened up near us, it quickly became my favorite. I'm a BIG fan of alliums like onion, garlic, scallion, etc.; and CM Chicken has several options that go HARD with these flavors. The Choong Man signature snow onion sauce, atop a big pile of crispy chicken with about half a white onion thinly sliced over it, is fantastic! If you're a big onion lover, this is peak cuisine (just bring mints for after). So many of their sauces strongly feature garlic, onion, and green onions into their sauces and toppings. Additionally the soy-base and chili sauces are all incredible as well. Get them on bone-in fried chicken, broasted chicken, boneless chicken, sandwiches, rice bowls, Korean pancakes, and seafood. I've gotten a cup of their snow sauce just to dip appetizers in (they have seasoned straight-cut fries, curly fries, waffle fries, crispy thin-cut chips, onion rings, fried cheese curds, fried calamari, dumplings, egg rolls, fried shrimp, and more). There's also some banchan to go with your food and drinks (their daikon radish & cabbage is great, their kimchi is modestly spicy and rich, and their cabbage slaw is tangy). Their chicken is always cooked to perfection - tender and juicy in the middle, and perfectly finished outside. Their crispy coatings are always extra crispy, and never too oily. Their broasted or simmered chicken have been extra tender and saucy. Ditto with their shrimp. They have dishes that will fill up even the hungriest patrons, as well as a number of smaller meals (I highly recommend the Chi-bop rice bowls) when you just want a bite to eat along with your drinks. Their noodle soups are great when you want something to warm you up, and they can spice them up as you like (their fire ramen is intense). Their Korean pancakes look awesome, and I'm hoping to try those next. I've been there a bunch of times, and I think I've still only had about 1/6th of their menu. As for their drinks menu, I've barely even started. Every boba drink I've had was excellent, particularly their Milkis and Yakult fruit teas. In addition, they have soft drinks, iced tea, several beers on draft, bottled beers, a number of soju & beer bottles, rice teas (the cinnamon is awesome), canned fruit drinks, yogurt drinks, and so much more. Once the weather gets warmer, I'm hoping to stop by for more dinks on their patio (which has a really cool LED lit fountain). CM Chicken Vernon Hills has a really lively atmosphere, with TV screens everywhere, and up-tempo K-pop music that drives a number of colored LEDs. They play mostly top K-pop hits, but also the occasional K-HipHip and R&B song (I've also heard one Day6 song play). The servers are all very nice, and have robots that help them out with carrying drinks & food. The prices are pretty reasonable for the area. The restaurant itself is meticulously cleaned, well lit, and the bathrooms are spotless. They have a nice outdoor patio area that looks like it'll be nice in the summer. They are conveniently located on the north-east corner of Milwaukee and Olde Half Day. If you're northbound on Milwaukee, turn left onto Olde Half Day and use the entrance near Starbucks, as the entrance on Milwaukee near the PNC bank is only for southbound traffic. The lot can get crowded, but I've never seen it completely full. There are several handicap spots right in front of the restaurants (CM is neighbors to Wick & Ale and Real Urban BBQ). I heartily recommend CM Chicken & Boba to anyone who loves Korean style fried chicken, wild boba drinks, as well as modern Korean pub favorites. The food is great, the atmosphere is lively, the staff are friendly, and the prices are fair for the neighborhood. The food is just as good at the Hawthorn Mall location, but I think this location is just more fun and they're open a little later. When the weather is nice, I'm hoping to go to eat on the patio when they have a live music event. read more

My friend told me about this place and decided to check this out. I've been to this place about 3 times now and all I can say is I'm so glad we have a Korean fried chicken in suburban Chicago. Food: my favourite to get is the soy garlic friend chicken and the honey garlic fried chicken. It's such a great comfort food. I actually crave it from time to time. It never fails to satisfy my cravings. Their cheese curds was also great as well. Their tteokbokki was alright from what I remembered but it was decent. Their chicken portions is pretty good. "Half" usually is enough for one person. They make amazing Korean chicken here and I will keep on coming back when I can. I highly recommend this place to anyone They also have sikhe as a drink which is a rice drink. I first tried it in a Korean sauna and it's so yummy. I highly recommend trying. Aesthetic. : it's filled with kpop and it's very spacious. It feels open and nice to just hangout and have good food. It's a good place to hangout with friends as well. I know there's plenty of them out there, but this one is definitely the best out of the ones i've been too. my buddies and I had the soy garlic wings, tikku curry wings, the hot n spicy glizzards and fries. Sadly we didn't take photos cause we were way too hungry but man the flavors were on point. Loved the spice in the glizzards. One of those spices that comes up slowly and hits at the end. Definitely had me sweating a little but so addicting that i had to keep eating. The tea flavors could be more defined, I would say I've had better. Finding this little gem in the neighborhood was a great find. Visiting RTC Great Lakes from knowing Korean restaurants in Los Angeles, this place would be hoppin'. It was quiet inside with just our table but plenty of takeout orders were being sent out the door.
