Ughhhh I didn't get my horchata!! :( First time here couple days ago, and I found parking very easily in the little lot to the right of the shop during prime dinner hour at 6, sweet! I ordered two burritos to-go and a horchata. I got myself all set up with all my sauces, limes and chips at the self-serve station. I really appreciate how the sauces are all refrigerated/kept in a ice box. I was so consumed with making sure i got all my sauces that when the employee handed me my food and took my marker away, I didn't realize she never gave me my horchata. Noooooooooo :*( I didn't realize until I had driven several blocks already, but the downtown traffic was so packed I didn't want to bother turning back. Can't tell you how sad I was, i haven't had horchata in a hot minute.... ugh... But the food was so good. My husband got a chicken supreme burrito with black and beans and I got the carne asada super burrito with refried beans. Haven't had a really good burrito in a long time and it did not disappoint. You order at the counter and your food comes up in seconds--but it is fresh--do not get the wrong idea. It is not Taco Bell. I was instructed to grab my chips and choice of salsa from the salsa bar. Yummy. I set my black bean taco on a table near the front window and ventured to the salsa bar. There were tons of salsa choices: mild red medium red hot red super hot red medium green spicy green Then I grabbed a dish of chips to accompany my taco and salsa... I was getting so excited to eat this food. The black beans were fresh and hot. The taco shell was warmed and fresh, with a bit of cilantro to spice it up. The chips were fresh and crispy as well. I loved, absolutely loved the salsa choices. I had the super spicy red and green and mixed them together on my taco and then used my chips to make sure I did not leave anything on my plate. Fresh ingredients, nothing tastes like it was prepared long ago. The shrimp tacos were very good, a sauce option would make them better as they were a bit dry. The chicken enchiladas also tasted fresh and didn't have any gamy smell as many do because they probably cook it a day or more in advance. Not this place! Although it does need a little kick, a bit more bland than what I'm used to but still fresh and delicious. Love their chips as they are not salty or greasy. Good service as well. I really like the people who run this place. Their hearts are in the right place, and they are very customer service oriented. I have been here two times. The food is solid, if maybe a bit uninspired. They have consciously maintained a limited menu, so they be good at just a few things, but the choices are more limited than your usual taqueria. The burrito is just okay--pretty sloppy, as pointed out by other Yelpers. The tacos are excellent, with perfectly cooked tortillas and good seasoning on the meat. The salsa bar is pretty good with a range of options from very spicy to mild. The chips are home made and are very crunchy. Prices are very fair. The menu is a bit limited but what they offeer is very good. Everything is so fresh it tastes and feels like they made it just for you! They have Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas, Nachos & Enchiladas, Wraps, Tortas, & Flautas. They offer the typical meats, fish tacos and shrimp. The portions are decent and the prices are reasonable. They also have a free, unlimited, salsa bar with various red/green salsas and Pico de Gallo. I was impressed at how fresh it was - like it was just made a few minutes ago. They also offer fresh chips - serve-yourself. They're fresh, not sitting around for hours and fairly light and, definitely, not greasy. The best and tastiest fish tacos I ever have!! Even fancier Mexican restaurant doesn't beat this. The fish (Mahi Mahi usually) has delicious spice on it and is grilled to perfection. My pet peeve is deep-fried and overcooked grilled fish tacos. Cocina's fish is always juicy and flavorful! My other fave dishes are the chicken flautas or taquitos (you get 3 decent size in an order). I do wish they'd make ground beef flautas and tacos. Although their cubed size beef Carne Asada tacos are equally delicious. Their homemade chips & salsa (3 different kinds) are self-serve. The green one is my fave. They also sell Jarritos (Mexican soda) and Helados (Mexican popsicles) with variety of flavors. There is a patio on the side you can eat outdoor when it's nice out. Carnitas burrito and a Modelo for $13 - I can make that work :) Food was great, the outdoor patio was fantastic, and the service was excellent. The burrito could have a little less rice/beans, but I am from SoCal and can be very specific in my burrito tastes. And chips and salsa were provided as well - made for a relaxing end to a busy day! So, I can't say much about the a good portion of the quality of the food here. I know only this: I'm in love with the Polzole they make on weekends at the Pleasanton Mexican food establishment. For a reasonable price one gets good portions and tasty helping of this classic Mexican soup. There are occasions when it's not in stock (I've had the chicken soup which is good but not the same level as the Pozole) which brings a frown to my face (Not sure what that's about, ergo, only four stars) but most of the time it's around. The breakfast burritos here are dynamite and the taste fact exceeds warp factor twelve when adding some of their fiery hot sauce! "Full Speed ahead Mr. Sulu!" Stopped by after visiting the farmer's market on a Saturday afternoon. Upon entering, we were quickly greeted at the register. We ordered two dishes and two drinks, which arrived at our table in under 5 minutes. We had a shrimp burrito and carne asada nachos, both were great portions and the meat/shrimp were well-seasoned. I even liked the horchata, and I am not an horchata drinker at all! My Jamaica (the red drink in the drink machine at the counter) was tasty, but not overly sweet. Service was quick, restaurant is clean, and has ample indoor and outdoor seating. They had a nice chip and salsa area, which I didn't notice until we were done eating. This is our most favorite Mexican restaurant in the East Bay. The food is always fresh and they have the most amazing horchata here (it's homemade and not that packeted stuff that you find at most places). I personally always order either the chicken tacos w/ rice and beans or the taco salad. Both are normally my go to Mexican dishes and Cocina Mexico does them better than anyone in the area. It's also really convenient for a grab-and-go meal after work or for lunch as they make the food quickly and you can also place your order online. The owners are also amazing. I had a mixup on one of my orders, and Anthony responded to me promptly with a really thoughtful message showing me that he takes pride in the food that they make here and cares about his customers. I can honestly say that I've never had better customer service in my life. Thank you Anthony.
